    HTML table ignoring element-style width I have an HTML table where certain cells have very long text contents. I want to specify a width (in pixels) for these cells using jQuery, but the rendered table just ignores the given width. Is there any way to force the table to respect this width? Thanks!   • Jquery - Convert ascii chars back to HTML

    I am reading data from an html file to load into a div. The problem I am having is, the program that writes the html files is converting to <br /> SO when I execute $('#items').load('/News/list.aspx'); it displays as a string on my page instead of reading it as a page break. I have tried to read the above file into a variable to do a string replace on the <br /> but it doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

  • web design PSD to html -> more direct ways?

    At work I see one colleague designing a site in Photoshop/Fireworks, I see another taking this data, slicing it up and using Dreamweaver to rebuild the same from scratch. It seems like too much mucking around! I know that Photoshop can output a tables based HTML, and Fireworks will create divs with absolute positioning; neither appear to be very helpful. Admittedly, I haven't tried much of (DW/FW) (CS4/CS3) since becoming a programmer, so I don't know if new versions are addressing this work flow issue, but are we still double handling things? Can we attach some sort of layout metadata (this is a rollover button, this will be a SWF, this will be text, this logo will hide "xyz" <h1> text etc) to slices to aid in layout generation? are there some secret tools which assist in this conversion process? Or are we still restricted to doing things by hand? The frustration continues when said hand built page needs to be reworked again to fit Smarty Templates/Wordpress/generic CMS. I acknowledge that designers need to be free of systems to be able to do whatever, but most conventional sites have: a header with navigation a sidebar with more links the main content part maybe another sidebar a footer Given the similarity of a lot of components, shouldn't there be a more systematic approach to going from sliced designs to functional HTML? Or am I over-simplifying things? -edit- Mmmmm.... I suppose I will accept an answer, but they weren't really what I was looking for. It just seems like designing the DOM is a bit of holy grail ("It's only a model!"), and maybe with all the "groovy" things you can do with HTML and Javascript, it would be mighty hard work, but with a set of constraints (that 960 stuff looks interesting), some well designed reset style sheets and a bit of... fairy dust? we should be able to improve the work flow. Photoshop's tables by themselves are pretty much useless, I agree, but surely we can take this data, and then select a group of cells and say "right, this is a text div, overflow:auto" or "these cells are an image block, style it with the same height/width as the selected area". Admittedly here at work there are other elephants in the room that need to make their formal introductions to management, but some parts of the designpage workflow seem... uneducated at best.

    Hi, hows it going, I have searched through the forums and good old google and have found many answers but non seem to work on my page. Anyway here is the question, I have 2 divs that are positioned side by side, and I wish to get rid of the whitespace www.blisshair.com.au/test.html :(http://www.blisshair.com.au/test.html) I want to the black from the "link 1" to join to the main content in the center, Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you. EDIT: Tried opening in Internet explorer 8 and it seems top exactly how I want it, besides the 2 bottom divs not lining up, Is it possible to do this with an UL and SPAN tags ? I am aiming for a tabbed look, for example, when you click on link 2, the background around link 2 goes black and the black color "flows" into the main content page, sorry if this doesnt make sense, early AM here :D Thanks again

    I have a dropdown menu that pulls in text from a database column. The database column can include HTML mark-up. In the drop-down I obviously don't need that in the text. I am working on some jquery and it partially accomplished what I'm looking for.     I have a JAVA object where I save a HTML string value I call message. The saved data looks like the below, You have received a new <a href='' onclick='return popupRentalView('5282053859835904');'>Rental Request 5282053859835904</a>. Please view your open orders. But when printed to the JSP file and displayed at runtime using <%=pm.getMessage()%> or <%out.print(pm.getMessage());%> The actual html code comes out all messed up, You have received a new <a 5282053859835904');'="" onclick="return popupRentalView(" href="">Rental Request 5282053859835904</a> . Please view your open orders. Any thoughts on why the displayed string does not match the saved string?     hello everybody, i'm looking for a technique to adapt a html listbox to hierarchical content with an unlimited number of levels ( const 1 would be sufficient ). hierarchy levels should be collapsible as in the usual file explorer views. the html listbox behaviour should be preserved / mimicked as comprehensively as possible. do you have a hint on where to find or how to implement this ? jquery solutions are fine. firefox 3.5+, ie 8+, safari 5 must be supported; opera 11, chrome 9 would be nice. as far as i understand the issue, listbox contents are rendered inside their own browser window sporting none of the standard window adornments. a hint on how to obtain a handle on this window in js would be a sufficient starting point, as well as correcting me in case i misconceived the browser behaviour. thanks in advance for your efforts, best regards, carsten

    Hi I have scenario, where there are html hidden fields, the page can be redirected to itself, with parameters, I have sessions too. Now depending on session value I want to set some hidden values, so that it can be picked up from javascript and can do certain operation. But, the problem is I have no idea about how to get/ set values into html controls using asp.net, and also do not know whether this is possible or not. Please note, it is imperative that I need some way to hold some data that can be set using asp.net and can be picked up by javascript.     I constantly find myself creating sites using newer technologies (such as HTML 5 and CSS 3, then adding either backwards compatibility layers or porting entirely to XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1. This process often involves replacing CSS with sprite images and adding in flash components for advanced asynchronous support. My question is when can I can start to use the modern standards exclusively. Do I need to wait until Internet Explorer 9 is released or is it acceptable to request users switch to a "better" browser? Furthermore, if dropping compatibility for non HTML 5 browsers is an option, is it reasonable to ask mainstream users to install the Google Frame Frame? Thanks.

  • How to set cell's background in HTML table ?

    I would like to set the background of a cell in HTML table to be like this. What are my options besides using an image as background ? Are there any predefined backgrounds like this ? Maybe dotted, or diagonal lines backgrounds ? In case of image background, if I don't know in advance what would be the size of the cell, what image size should I take ? How to make it be repetitive so it would look nice ? Any HTML/CSS/Javascript/jQuery suggestions are welcome :)

    i'm trying to put large amount of data in a java me application for a BlackBerry mobile and i noticed that the max file size to be accepted in BlackBerry is 150 KB, by the way i'm developping the application in arabic language so i'm converting every litter to his corresponding unicode so every char gets to 6 chars so its another big problem, some ppl told me that i can write arabic as arabic letters without the need to write its unicode, by viewing the mobile form as an html page, my problem is that i dont know how to view the page as html page and what is XMLParser ?? can anyone help me to get all this together, cos i really need some serious help thank you alot Hesham
