  • Weird landscape UITabBarController Application startup

    - by Stefano Verna
    Hi there. My application is quite simple, but I have some problems when it starts. I setted in the Info.plist to be landscaped, but it seems to ignore the order. In fact, when the app is loading the Simulator is landscaped, but then it returns in portrait mode. This is the hierarchy of the views and controllers: MainViewController (extends UITabBarController just to override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:) Three extended UITableViewControllers as tabs (also those have the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation correctly setted up). If I kinda force the orientation of the device to Landscape with: [[UIDevice currentDevice] setOrientation: UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight]; Then for an instant the Simulator flashes in portrait mode, and then it goes landscaped. The problem is that in this way, the auto-rotation animations gets started, which is something I cannot tollerate. I just want a fixed, landscaped application. Any clues? Am I missing something?

  • Is Amazon SQS the right choice here? Rails performance issue.

    - by ole_berlin
    I'm close to releasing a rails app with the common networking features (messaging, wall, etc.). I want to use some kind of background processing (most likely Bj) for off-loading tasks from the request/response cycle. This would happen when users invite friends via email to join and for email notifications. I'm not sure if I should just drop these invites and notifications in my Database, using a model and then just process it with a worker process every x minutes or if I should go for Amazon SQS, storing the messages and invites there and let my worker retrieve it from Amazon SQS for processing (sending the invites / notifications). The Amazon approach would get load off my Database but I guess it is slower to retrieve messages from there. What do you think?

  • Dotfuscator from .NET 2.0

    - by vasek7
    Is there any chance to see Application Runs on Codeplex with .NET 2.0 application? I explored Dotfuscator is using web service url http://so-s.info/PreEmptive.Web.Services.Messaging/MessagingServiceV2.asmx. Is possible to track application run event manually? Something like add web service reference and call: Dotfuscator.MessageCache messages = new Dotfuscator.MessageCache(); messages.Business.CompanyId = new Guid("3E35F098-CE43-4F82-9E9D-05C8B1046A45"); messages.Application.Id = new Guid("my app guid"); messages.Application.Name = Application.ProductName; messages.Application.Version = Application.ProductVersion; Dotfuscator.MessagingServiceV2 s = new Dotfuscator.MessagingServiceV2(); s.Publish(messages);

  • a completely decoupled OO system ?

    - by shrini1000
    To make an OO system as decoupled as possible, I'm thinking of the following approach: 1) we run an RMI/directory like service where objects can register and discover each other. They talk to this service through an interface 2) we run a messaging service to which objects can publish messages, and register subscription callbacks. Again, this happens through interfaces 3) when object A wants to invoke a method on object B, it discovers the target object's unique identity through #1 above, and publishes a message on the message service for object B 4) message services invokes B's callback to give it the message 5) B processes the request and sends the response for A on message service 6) A's callback is called and it gets the response. I feel this system is as decoupled as practically possible, but it has the following problems: 1) communication is typically asynchronous 2) hence it's non real time 3) the system as a whole is less efficient. Are there any other practical problems where this design obviously won't be applicable ? What are your thoughts on this design in general ?

  • RotationAsync with each row in List view

    - by Labeeb P
    Hi, From this answer in stack overflow and the sample project referred there, i got the Idea of RotationAsync, where a progress bar work fine with device rotation. But my problem is, i have a listview with each row there is progress bar. And is there any way to retain the progress while rotation for reach row. Me creating onclicklistener object for the button click listener in getview function of my adapter class. Where its onClick function call the AsyncTask class Since each getview (row) is calling different instant of my AsyncTask, i cannot make it static of single ton class. Any Idea on this. Thanks.

  • Pre-cache site as user visits

    - by strager
    I am making a static site which is 'forced' to be cached via Cache-control, etc. When a user visits my site, I want the browser to crawl my site, caching pages, so when the user navigates to a page, the load is almost instant. (I do not need a recursive crawl, as that will probably happen as the user navigates between pages. I just need to crawl the links on the current page, and of course not re-caching a page which has already been cached.) (Also, I am not changing pages using Ajax-like techniques. These are essentially normal flat HTML files with normal links.) How can I do this pre-caching using Javascript? (I am using jQuery.)

  • CaptureCameraDialog returns OK but does not save (Motorola ES400)

    - by Dominic
    Ok it seems like everyone in the world has issues with CaptureCameraDialog. In my case the result is OK, but when taking the photo there is a MessageBox that says "Error" that appears and disappears in the blink of an eye, then returns to my app (so I don't have time to actually read the error). It has not saved the file. It does not throw an error to my application. There is also another issue which is exactly the same as the issue talked about here (yet none of the fixes work for me). http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-4025602.php Does anyone know how to get the "error message" that the dialogue box displays for an instant?

  • SQL Querying for Threaded Messages

    - by Harper
    My site has a messaging feature where one user may message another. The messages support threading - a parent message may have any number of children but only one level deep. The messages table looks like this: Messages - Id (PK, Auto-increment int) - UserId (FK, Users.Id) - FromUserId (FK, Users.Id) - ParentMessageId (FK to Messages.Id) - MessageText (varchar 200) I'd like to show messages on a page with each 'parent' message followed by a collapsed view of the children messages. Can I use the GROUP BY clause or similar construct to retrieve parent messages and children messages all in one query? Right now I am retrieving parent messages only, then looping through them and performing another query for each to get all related children messages. I'd like to get messages like this: Parent1 Child1 Child2 Child3 Parent2 Child1 Parent3 Child1 Child2

  • SQL Server Service Broker Service Disappearing (Automatically Deleted)?

    - by mwigdahl
    I've implemented a messaging system over SQL Server Service Broker. It is working great, with the sole exception that every once in a while (maybe once per week per server) my initiator service just vanishes without a trace. The corresponding queue is still there, but the service is missing. Obviously this causes problems in my system. It's a simple matter to recreate the service by hand, but I'm confused as to what might cause this behavior. I understand that automatic poison message handling causes queues to be disabled, but I don't see anything that indicates services can be disabled or deleted automatically. When this happens, I usually have a large backlog of messages in multiple application queues, but nothing extreme. Total message backlog is around 200,000. Does anyone know what might be happening here?

  • Why is there no Microsoft Certified Master program targetted at developers?

    - by Jason Coyne
    In the lower level certifications, developer technology is all over the place. At the highest level (Microsoft Certified Architect), the Solutions track appears to be a good fit for high level application designers and architects. MCA requires an MCM as a prerequisite. However, none of the MCM tracks are targeted towards development. Obviously to be a good architect you need to have knowledge of other technologies, servers, sql, messaging etc. But those seem like things that should be part of the course load, and not the sole focus. Are the lower tiers really as high as you can go for application focused professionals? For most developers, the SQL MCM seems to be the best fit. Are the MCM and MCA really targeted ad more administrators and not developers?

  • How do I pass a struct (or class) message back and forth between a C# service and a separate VB 6 ap

    - by grantjumper
    I need to pass data between a c# service and a running vb 6 application, considering using Windows Messaging. How do I pass the data back and forth between a C# service and a running vb 6 application? Shortened sample of the data I am passing back and forth is below: namespace MainSection { public struct Info { private int _Id; private string _TypeCode; private float _Calc; private DateTime _ProcessDate; private bool _ProcessFlag; public int Id { get { return _Id; } set { _Id = value; } } public string TypeCode { get { return _TypeCode; } set { _TypeCode = value; } } public float Calc { get { return _Calc; } set { _Calc = value; } } public DateTime ProcessDate { get { return _ProcessDate} set { _ProcessDate = value; } } public bool ProcessFlag { get { return _ProcessFlag} set { _ProcessFlag = value; } } } }

  • Help need for openfast implementation

    - by ganuke
    Our stock exchange going to implement FAST messaging in their system in order to reduced the bandwidth usage. We have already implement the FIX based application to trade with Stock exchange. In future we need implement FIX FAST in our application to communicate with them. I found that OPEN FAST is FAST based library. But I do not have any idea how to start with it. I went through OpenFast web site but could not find much support on how to use templates and dictionaries. Can some one guide me or provide some resources to start with? Thanks in advance.

  • How can a FILE* (pointer to a struct) be tested (if == NULL)?

    - by m4design
    I was playing around with C, anyways I was thinking how can file pointer (which points to a struct type), be tested if NULL as for instant: FILE *cfPtr; if ( ( cfPtr = fopen( "file.dat", "w" ) ) == NULL ) I tried to do that myself, but an error occurs. struct foo{ int x; }; struct foo bar = {0}; if (bar == NULL) puts("Yay\n"); else puts("Nay"); error C2088: '==' : illegal for struct Here's the FILE deceleration in the stdio.h file: struct _iobuf { char *_ptr; int _cnt; char *_base; int _flag; int _file; int _charbuf; int _bufsiz; char *_tmpfname; }; typedef struct _iobuf FILE;

  • Configure Symfony for use with Memcached

    - by Rob Wilkerson
    I have 2 Symfony applications (1 using 1.2.x, another using 1.4.x and both using Propel) that need to share some specific session information. Although I have no experience with memcached, my sense--after some reading--is that it may be able to serve as an external (FAST) repository that each app could read and write to. Unfortunately, I can't find much information about how to use it with Symfony in any capacity, much less in the quasi-cache, quasi-messaging server I'm envisioning. My questions, I suppose, are: Am I mistaken in believing that memcached be used in this manner and access by multiple systems? How can I configure Symfony to access a memcached repository? Thanks.

Question1. Is the following transfering steps correct? put a test.jpg image on client's folder -- convert the test.jpg in client.java(main.java) class to BufferedImage -- convert the BufferedImage to mat or Iplimage in server for using openCV.I have set a hello world sample from Simple Messaging Example using Hessian , and searched from Hessian with large binary data and other websites, but still dont know how to use it! Question2. Is there a related JAVA sample code? Thank you very much. Btw, I am using ubuntu12+netbeans7.2

  • Show composition/aggregation/association relations between objects in Visual Paradigm UML diagrams?

    - by ajsie
    I have Netbeans installed with Visual Paradigm plugin. I have converted my php code into UML diagrams (modeling - instant reverse). I can see relations (drawn lines) between superclass and subclasses. However, i cannot see relations between objects inside objects (composition/aggregation/association)? The code looks like: class Thread { private $tag = ''; public function __construct($tagObject) { $this->tag = $tagObject; } } I know its possible using Java cause i've read about it. Im using PHP, is this still possible?

  • Place text based divs in relative locations within a circle

    - by NickG
    Direct question - How would I place certain objects or small text within a certain area. For example, how would I replace the following image with html/javascript. --- I don't have enough reps to post an image :/ but try this URL - http://i.imgur.com/a3eWL.jpg Big picture - I am trying to create a kml file for Google Earth that when the point is clicked, the balloon description window pops up and I can display my html formatted diagram showing where the satellites are at that instant. Google Earth and KML docs allow for pretty much any html formatting within it, so currently looking for a good way to do this. Disclaimer: It has been a few years since i have done any html or javascript editing, so general examples and insight is greatful. Thanks

  • Failing faster when URL content is not found, howto

    - by Jam
    I have a thread pool that loops over a bunch of pages and checks to see if some string is there or not. If String is found, or not found response is near instant, however if server is offline or application is not running getting a rejection seems to take seconds How can I change my code to fail faster? for (Thread thread : pool) { thread.start(); } for (Thread thread : pool) { try { thread.join(); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } Here is my run method @Override public void run() { for (Box b : boxes) { try { connection = new URL(b.getUrl()).openConnection(); scanner = new Scanner(connection.getInputStream()); scanner.useDelimiter("\\Z"); content = scanner.next(); if (content.equals("YES")) { } else { System.out.println("\tFAILED ON " + b.getName() + " BAD APPLICATION STATE"); } } catch (Exception ex) { System.out.println("\tFAILED ON " + b.getName() + " BAD APPLICATION STATE"); } } }

  • mysql stored routine vs. mysql-alternative?

    - by user522962
    We are using a mysql database w/ about 150,000 records (names) total. Our searches on the 'names' field is done through an autocomplete function in php. We have the table indexed but still feel that the searching is a bit sluggish (a few full seconds vs. something like Google Finance w/ near-instant response). We came up w/ 2 possibilities, but wanted to get more insight: Can we create a bunch (many thousands or more) of stored procedures to speed up searches, or will creating that many stored procedures bog-down the db? Is there a faster alternative to mysql for "select" statements (speed on inserting & updating rows isn't too important so we can sacrifice that, if necessary). I've vaguely heard of BigTable & others that don't support JOIN statements....we need JOIN statements for some of our other queries we do. thx

  • Does sending mails with mail() hide the recipieints address

    - by user161179
    I am trying to build a email messaging system for a classified site ( a la craigslist), so that users can email each other. emails of registered users are stored in a database. What I want is for the recipients email address to be hidden from the sender's . If I just use the mail() function and dynamically get the recipients email from the database, will this email be visible to the person sending the mail ?? if the recipients email is indeed hidden from the sender's when using mail() this way, then why does craigslist anonymize's email ? isn't it already anonymous ? Edit: so the email won't be visible to the person filling the form. SO the question remains is why does craigslist anonymizes email addresses? and whether I should implement the same ?

  • How Android retrieves info of the Stacked Activities which are killed when memory goes low.

    - by taranfx
    I was reading on how Activities communicate and how the calls stack up on top of each other. But at any instant when the OS(or dalvik) is low on resources, it can choose to kill Paused or Stopped Activities. In this scenario, how do we restore previous state of the activity(in which it was before getting killed) when we reach the same activity on our way back. Does stack store the state as well as references to the Activity? Aren't their chances of achieving a different state when we re-constuct activity (onCreate)?

  • Where is the best place to start learning Java Socket Programming?

    - by MarcoBoomTing
    I wish to create a Java Socket server which can be connected to using Javascript and/or Flash. I have experience in Connecting to sockets in flash, and using a comet like system in Ajax. I wish to make a live communication system, which will intale multiple connections to the server from various clients, needing almost instant communication between peers. I coded a system like this in PHP but I want to convert it to Java, simply because I don't want the PHP engine to be tied up on this Sever, as it serves all the web stuff normally on the site, and i've heard is more powerful for this sort of thing. Just looking for advice on where I can start learning how to write this sort of system using Java? I have previous coding experience in PHP, Javascript, Adobe Air and AS3 if That helps?

  • Can I stagger UpdatePanel updates in .NET?

    - by cusimar9
    I have a situation in which I select an account and I want to bring back its details. This is a single UpdatePanel round trip and its quite quick. In addition, I need to bring back some transactional information which is from a much bigger table and takes a couple of seconds for the query to come back. Ideally, I would like to put this into a second update panel and update this additional information once it has been received, but after the first update panel has updated i.e. the user sees: Change account See account details (almost instant) See transactional info (2 seconds later) The only way I can think of doing this is to use javascript to cause a SECOND postback once the account details have been retrieved to get the transaction information. Is there a better way?
