  • File manager respawns with ubuntuone

    Starting Feb 11, my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop respawns FileManager many times(hundreds). You can observe the "Starting File Manager" processes at the bottom of the gnome desktop. I can make this behaviour stop by: System - Preferences - Ubuntu One - Services - uncheck "Files". Can someone walk me though the debug process? Linux 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:48 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux I'm trying to reset the Ubuntu One configuration. I found good information here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Bugs Look for "ROOT_MISMATCH in syncdaemon.log" After running through the steps to reset and restart UbuntuOne, no more "Starting File Mangager" respawns.

    Are there any standards (or certified solutions) to expose a (Web-)Service to the internet from a very security-sensitive network (e.g. Banking/Finance)? I am not specifically talking about WS-* or any other transport-layer security á la SSL/TLS, rather about important standards or certifications that must be obeyed. Are there any known products (coming from an SAP-environment) that can provide a "high-security proxy" of some sort to expose specific web-services to the internet? Any buzzwords that a CIO/CTO is aware of about this subject?

    Bray 2.0 is a tool based on the NetBeans Platform that assists in creating valid Data Flow Configuration (DFC) files. The DFC Specification was developed to provide a standardized way for defining, validating, and approving data flows for use on cross-domain guarding solutions. A DFC document specifies key entities such as security domains, guards that facilitate data between security domains, data flows that describe how data travels between security domains, filters that transform and validate the data and more. Bray consumers can integrate their own tools, file types, and more into the product with relative ease. Robust UI. The NetBeans Platform intuitive UI makes it easy to access and manipulate multiple aspects of a DFC. Explorer. The Explorer is a key component that makes the DFC XML easy to traverse, edit, and find errors. Context-sensitive help. JavaHelp can be readily integrated for the product as well as all the UI within. Editors. Any external file can be added to a DFC. Users can register their own editors or use the provided NetBeans editors to edit files. Printing.     I'm making a large scale MVC application using Orchard. And I'm going to be separating my logic into modules. I'm also trying to heavily decouple the application for maximum extensibility and testability. I have a rudimentary understanding of IoC, Repository Pattern, Unit of Work pattern and Service Layer pattern. I've made myself a diagram. I'm wondering if it is correct and if there is anything I have missed regarding an extensible application. Note that each module is a separate project. Update So I have many UI modules that use the db module, that's why they've been split up. There are other services the UI modules will use. The UI modules have been split up because they will be made over time, independent of each other.

  • Is Ubuntu a viable replacement of Windows XP for small enterprise environments?

    Hi all, I'm a newbie systems administrator, so any advice would be great. I would like to setup ubuntu 8.04 lts in a small office of consulting in management (around 50 workstations) instead of Windows XP. I would install MS Office 2007 via WINE (*). It would be a fresh installation, so the migration would be less of a pain. The new setup would also include a small server as document repository and a backup server by now. Later, I would install another goodies like a IM server, a document management solution, and whatnot collaborative tool. What do you advice in this scenario? Do you think is viable? Should I try to convince my managers this is a good idea? I consider myself as a fair experienced user in both systems, and I'm the only guy in charge of everything. I need to cut costs down, and I think that antivirus and antimalware software are a waste of money and time. Is this good idea?, or should I resign and try to lock down the Windows systems and install AV software? Is there anything else in this setup I'm not foreseeing? (*) The only catch in my test machine until now had been that Office SmartArt doesn't work properly, the rest of Office 2007 may seem ok.

  • How do I keep the Thunderbird profile in sync between multiple computers?

    I'd like to find a definitive solution to automatically keep my Thunderbird profile in sync between my laptop and my desktop computer. I'm using IMAP, so keeping the e-mail itself in sync is not an issue I can use Ubuntu One for the contacts, so that should not be an issue, either. However, there are a bunch of other files and folders in the Thunderbird profile, and I'm not sure which ones I should keep in sync and which ones I shouldn't bother about. Ideally, I'd like to use Ubuntu One to mark the required ones for syncing, but I would appreciate any help in deciding which ones exactly need to be synced.

  • certain files not syncing

    I have UbuntuOne set up to sync a one folder with a number of subfolders. For some reason some of the subfolders have stopped syncing. Within one subfolder with 6 subfolders in it, some are showing up empty (they shouldn't be) and some are showing up with only some of the files they should contain. I have synced recently, and newer files are showing up in other subfolders. There's just some problem with these particular folders. They are not especially big nor do they have especially big files in them. Thoughts?
