I remember a few years there was mention of a MIT software called Scratch and thought maybe this kid can do want he wants to do. • Remote Access to Owncloud Server

  I'm currently trying to setup my own own-cloud server, and I've got it fully installed, configured, and accessible from within my own local network. I cannot figure out how to access it from the outside. So far I've: Successfully setup port-forwarding on my local router. I've done so via 'single port forwarding' and 'port range forwarding' Ports 80, 443, 3306 (Apache-Full and MySQL) Successfully obtained my external IP address. I've also tested this magic number from within the network at #insertIPhere/owncloud and it did work. Successfully setup the server using SQLite Successfully setup the server using MySQL Created the following exceptions in my firewall: Allow In Port 80 (Apache Full) Allow In Port 443 (Apache Full) Allow In Port 3306 (MySQL) Tried connecting from several different remote networks, as to troubleshoot something on their end As far as trying to access it, I'm doing so through Google-Chrome and Mozilla Firefox trying to reach the server through #insertIPhere/owncloud using the above public IP address. So what have I missed, and how do I access my server from outside? Thanks in advance for your help and time, and I apologize in advance for what will probably result in my noobish mistake in networking. I've looked at the official documentation. • RSpec + Selenium tests for .NET on Windows

  I'm a Rails developer doing TDD on a Mac with RSpec, Capybara and Selenium webdriver. Now I have been asked by my company to use this approach for a .NET on Windows environment. What is the best way of doing this? I could just install Ruby and use RSPEC, Capybara and Selenium webdriver for integration testing. But what about unit tests? I also looked at NSpec, but I'm not sure if I can combine that with Capybara or Selenium for integration tests. What would be a good approach here?

• Is multiple domain names and links from same IP causing poor search engine rankings?

  I have an ecommerce website which is not doing so well in Google. I am trying to improve this of course, and am looking at some possibilities for why it isn't doing well. The website has four domain names, all of which have been indexed by Google. A few months ago I applied 301 redirects to any requests for two of the domain names so now it is down to two domain names (one is a .net, the other is a .com.au, the others were .net.au and .com). I prefer to use my main domain name (the .com.au), but one of the names has been around for a long time and has more inbound links. According to a PageRank tool, both are PR2. It is a Classic ASP site and up until recently had a lot of querystring parameters. In the last week or so I added URL rewriting so there is now no parameters for most pages. I don't do 301 redirects from the old URLs but instead I add the META canonical tag indicating the preferred new URL. At the same time I redesigned the site and improved title tags, META descriptions, and H tags but it hasn't been long enough yet for Google to index many of these yet. I also looked at what pages Google has indexed and strangely it has some strange pages in the index, there are a lot of pages which are actual keyword searches (more a bunch of random letters than an actual word). What I mean is that it is as if they had typed in something to search for in my search box - there are no links to pages like this and the only way of getting this is to type something in to the search box). So I added a META robots tag with noindex,nofollow anytime that I render pages like this. Years ago I set up a fake price comparison site which lists all my products and links back to my site. It has a different keyword rich domain name but is on the same server and same IP address. It's a completely different layout but does have the same product categories and product descriptions (although I have stripped formatting out of them so they are not identical except in text). I also have a few blog sites which again are on the same server/IP and all have advertising for the website. My questions are: What should I do with the multiple domains, just use one, or continue with two or more? Should I add 301 redirects, not just the META canonical tag? Any idea about Google indexing my search results page, and did I do the right thing with the META robots tag? Is the fake price comparison site likely to be causing problems? Are all the links to the site from other domain names but the same IP address likely to be causing problems? Thanks for any help. Sorry for so many questions in one.

• How do I make Ubuntu go past the splash screen?

  I recently upgraded my desktop mac to Precise and now can't get past the Ubuntu 12.04 splash page. The splash freezes with ubntu and the dots turning from white to orange forever. This is when I choose 3.2.0-generic from the grub menu. If I choose to load up older kernels, I still get the same thing. How can I make my computer finish booting again? I'm able to ssh into the machine and poke around, but the actual screen freezes at the splash. dmesg cat kern.log

• Ubuntu 12.10 wont boot

  im new to using Ubuntu and just bought a HP Pavilion g6-2240sa with windows 8 pre installed. I made a bootable USB with Ubuntu on it and installed alsongside windows, for 2 days it worked fine, I got into Ubuntu by doing an advanced restart from windows 8 and then booting Ubuntu from the partition it made. When i did the advanced restart today there was only 1 HDD i could select ( there were 3 before windows, a restore partition that was already there when i got the computer and Ubuntu) so i booted from the USB again and re-installed Ubuntu. then did an advanced restart and the 3 partitions where there again, i booted from Ubuntu and now heres my problem. I get the Ubuntu background when its loading then its just a black screen with some writing, its not on long enough to read, then just a black screen with a white _ and the top left corner that does nothing, i have to restat the computer and it auto boots into windows 8. im a little confused as the first time i installed Ubuntu it worked fine until the partition dissaperd), the second time i installed i did everything the same except it found the old Ubuntu so i reinstalled it and now is donst work.

• htaccess 301 redirect help needed

  Due to some issues in my site many pages are visible as duplicate using : www.example.com/page.html?task=view but it's content is exactly same as www.example.com/page.html. One way is to use http 301 redirect from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html when anybody fetches page with arguments. But links like www.example.com/page.html?task=view will remain visible to outside world. Another way is canonicalization which I don't want to use as it is difficult to insert the tag in Joomla CMS. I want to hide www.example.com/page.html?task=view from external world. Is it possible to change the url from www.example.com/page.html?task=view to www.example.com/page.html ? I mean if there is href link of www.example.com/page.html?task=view in my web page, it should be visible to external world as without any arguments. This is different from using 301 to convert externally accessed page : www.example.com/page.html?task=view to without using arguments in .htaccess.

• Should I understand SVN before I jump to GIT?

  I work in a department where no one has ever used source control before, including myself. I am trying to push the concept. I have spent a little while researching SVN. I some basics learned. I can Create/update/checkout/commit with command line and from Tortoise. I am starting to learn how to tag and branch but still confused a lot about conflicts between branches and trunk etc. I am still learning, but I do not have a physical person who can show me anything. Its all from books/tutorials and trial and error. From what I have read online it seems like git is the better thing to know, but its also more complicated. I don't want to overwhelm myself. Should I continue to master svn before moving to git or would I be wiser to just jump to git now? Are there pros and cons to both approaches?

• Dropbox install stuck at 99%, how do I fix it? (and any dpkg errors)

  I tried to install Dropbox using How to install Dropbox?, or with apt-get install nautilus-dropbox. Dropbox loads until 99% and then hangs, causing the system to go to 100% cpu usage. If I reboot or close the terminal, I sometimes get dpkg errors which prevent me from using apt-get or Software Center to perform any package management functions. I would like to resolve all these and just get Dropbox working. How do I do that? Note: This question is possibly answered in two parts: The accepted answer tells you how to install Dropbox. But if you have dpkg errors, see this answer before you use answer 1 to install Dropbox.

• How to hide the admin login form?

  In my website there are no accounts except for those of moderators and administrators. That's why I don't want to show the login form to everyone but to these people. I thought of using a weird URL for the login form like www.example.com/1a79a4d60de6718e8e5b326e338ae533 that only admins and mods would know. But it's a quite impractical solution, besides if someone would want to login in another computer and forgets this URL, then is unable to. Is there any more effective way?

• Do I need multiple accounts in Facebook for each of my product site?

  I've a dozen sites which include for-profit ones as well as for charity. For each site I've created a Facebook company/charity account. After creating those accounts it dawned on me that I could as well have created a new page for each of my site from my personal account only even if a site has multiple product pages. What'll be the right strategy? Also as per Facebook terms we can have only single personal account. I do have single personal account only but for each site I've created only company pages. I hope I'm not violating the facebook terms.

• Just installed 12.10 with WUBI and get error

  Goes to the terminal screen and says: [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config] ERROR failed to set mode on 'crtc:10] From what I gather, this is an issue with my monitor. Not sure. I am really new to this. I have a Compaq Presario running XP SP3 and am using a Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV as a monitor. Downloaded Ubuntu from, well,... Ubuntu. Used WUBI to install. I suppose it created its own partition because install never asked. Is there a work-around for this? I have tried everything I know of, given my very limited experience. Thanks in advance.

• Ubuntu 12.04 UEFI Partition Boot Fail

  I've built a new system, and I want to take full advantage of UEFI and Ubuntu. So I install Ubuntu, and try to boot from it, and my BIOS (Asus EZ Mode / Advanced Mode) simply says "No bootable medium found. Insert Bootable Medium and press any key to try again." So I've reinstalled several times, without any failures, Ubuntu IS installed, and I've tried Ubuntu Boot Repair (link below) and nothing I do seems to work. With so much attention being given to COLUMNSTORE and in-memory tables and stored procedures, it is easy to overlook how important tempdb is to performance.   The “Lessons Learned” blog has an update covering the error message "The protocol 'net.msmq' is not supported." "The protocol 'net.msmq' is not supported." OMG, a new lesson! Will wonders never cease? So I ran into an interesting issue setting up a WCF service to consume an MSMQ queue. I won't bother you with the details of how to actually build a WCF/MSMQ service; there are plenty of tutorials on the subject. I want to share with you an interesting error that I ran into and the surprisingly simple fix. The error occurs when attempting to generate a Service Reference or even simply browsing to the WSDL of your WCF/MSMQ service in the form of a YSOD with the following error: "The protocol 'net.msmq' is not supported." After a lot of Googling on the subject turning up plenty of questions with the same error but no answers. So I went digging into some application level config files on a server that already had a WCF/MSMQ service successfully set up by the network admin, and the answer was amazingly simple: If you are hosting an MSMQ/WCF service in IIS, you have to tell IIS to allow net.msmq protocol. It's in the advanced settings for the application or site in which you are hosting the service. .... aaaand, that's it.
