  I am new to ubuntu server and i have installed ubuntu server on a vm and installed LAMP etc but my problem is that my website is not visible outside. i have port triggering and added port 21,22 and 80. i really don't know what am doing, i am totally lost! I have a dynamic ip but i can access the server through 192.168.25.1 no matter how many times i restart the modem and from my public ip. I get redirected to my router settings what should i do??

  I have been looking at the terms constructor injection and dependency injection while going through articles on (Service locator) design patterns. When I googled about constructor injection, I got unclear results, which prompted me to check in here. What is constructor injection? Is this a specific type of dependency injection? • no such partition, grub rescue

  I am currently dual booting Win7 and Ubuntu. I created a new partition, on my c drive, to install windows 8 on (i did not want to do the upgrade). I inserted the windows 8 cd and restarted my computer. no such partition/ grub rescue is all that comes up now. I loaded ubuntu from disk and did boot-repair. It did not solve my problem but I got the following output Please let me know if anyone can fix this. I am lost.

• Weird unexpected image compression on a web server running Apache on Ubuntu?

  I have a weird problem on my production web server running Apache on Ubuntu: it compresses my images thereby dramatically lowering their quality! Actually I have two virtual hosts running, each located in a different folder. Wether I display .gif images by navigating on the two sites, or acceding them directly by their url, their size and quality are invariably degraded. I tried with three different browsers: same problem. Using them on other sites on the Web: no problem. Of course I disabled mod_deflate on the server (which should not compress images anyway), but the phenomenon remains. On my local développement server, running the same configuration, everything is Ok. Now I'm completely lost! For the record, my configuration: Ubuntu 10.04, Apache 2, Php 5.

• Is the abundance of Frameworks dumbing down programmers?

  With all of the frameworks available these days ORM's DI/IoC etc. I find that many programmers are losing or don't have the problem solving skills needed to solve difficult issues. I've seen many times unexpected behaviour creep into applications and the developers unable to really dig in and find the issues. It seems to me that deep understanding of whats going on under the hood is being lost. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting these frameworks aren't good and haven't moved the industry forward, only asking if as a unintended consequence developers aren't gaining the knowledge and skill needed for deep understanding of systems.

• Recover files from NTFS drive with bad sectors

  A few nights ago I have created a backup of my data on an external 500 GB NTFS USB hard drive. I have then formatted my computer, reinstalled Ubuntu and started transferring back the data from the external HDD. Unfortunately some files have became corrupted and Ubuntu is unable to copy them over. The same issue happens if I login using Windows 7. Disk Utility detects with SMART that there are "a few bad sectors". Some of files are perfectly intact, but other files cannot be accessed (nor read, copied...) although they are displayed within nautilus and show the correct file size. Is there anything I can do to recover this data? I have thought of using TestDisk but this utility seems more useful for repairing lost partitions or deleted files. I have also thought of using ddrescue so I could at least have a low level copy of the disk but I am not sure what use to make of it in order to recover the data!!!

• Cannot connect to a Wifi network chipset AR9287

  After updating my newly installed ubuntu 10.10. I can't connect to the wifi network anymore although it is showing it. Tried to install manufacturer driver INF file via ndiswrapper only makes things worst - lost my wifi. Downloaded and installed the compat-wireless driver for the Atheros AR9287. After installing, i got my wifi connection again but after rebooting I can't reconnect again. The Wifi access point is showing 2/5 to 3/5 signal strength. • Turn off laptop display and have monitor

  My laptop display has stopped working and is unfixable! Anyway, I got a full HD monitor and plugged that into the HDMI port of the laptop. I have changed the power settings so that I can close the lid and still have the monitor on, and this all works. However because it is on "mirror displays", I cannot get the full 1080p resolution that the monitor supports, and when I turn off mirror displays and switch off the laptop screen, the monitor will also switch off! I'm really stuck, as I can only get the monitor to display its full resolution if I have it with the laptop screen turned on, and I dont want this because (as the laptop display does not work) things get lost on that side of the screen. HELP. (Dell Studio 1537 Monitor is Samsung SA300 Connected through HDMI Ubuntu 11.10)

  Every time I try to open a word document I get this error. LibreOffice 3.5 Either another instance of LibreOffice is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to inconsistencies in your personal settings. Before continuing, you should make sure user "closes LibreOffice on host". Do you want to continue? I've been onto different forums to find out a remedy but nothing yet. I've recently done a fresh install of 12.04 (64bit) and have been having some issues with different programs and have been able to work through most of them but this one, I'm lost.

• Encrypting and decrypting single file with master password and passphrase

  Last night my system shutdown unexpectedly and when i restart it, it gave me superblock error. will then i fixed a little but. i was able to retrive my encrypted files which i encrypted my pgp public key but i was not able to retrive my private key or public key now i have ecrypted file which cannot be open because i have lost my private key. is there any way that i can encrypt my file by providing only master password and passphrase and no physical key or private key and when i am on another computer i can easily open it my same master password and passphrase. • 12.04 Dual Monitor Configuration changes to "Mirrored" automatically

  After installing 12.04 on my Samsung X120 Notebook (with Intel GMA 4500 internal graphics card) i have a Problem with the configuration off my 2nd monitor. Its a 22" with 1680 * 1050 Pixel connected via HDMI. I use the display configuration and set internal display=off and external display=main display. That works fine. After rebooting i still have that configuration, but after a while (often when i press a button on the keyboard), the configuration automatically changes to "Mirror Screen" and the internal display switches on. Both displays then have a bad resolution. When i do the manual display configuration again, everything is fine for the duration of that session. What could be the problem, that this display configuration gets lost / resets?

• Is reference to bug/issue in commit message considered good practice?

  I'm working on a project where we have the source control set up to automatically write notes in the bug tracker. We simply write the bug issue ID in the commit message and the commit message is added as a note to the bug tracker. I can see only a few downsides for this practice. If sometime in the future the source code gets separated from the bug tracking software (or the reported bugs/issues are somehow lost). Or when someone is looking in the history of commits but doesn't have access to our bug tracker. My question is if having a bug/issue reference in the commit message is considered good practice? Are there some other downsides?

• Why did Ubuntu and Windows start hanging mysteriously after I took a vacation?

  I installed Ubuntu alongside my Windows 7, after partitioning my HDD using Easeus partitioning manager. It was working perfectly, no problems, no data lost or corruption. Then I went away for 2 days and in my absence I don't know what happened in that period, now both Windows 7 and Ubuntu keep hanging continuously, like when you paint and change a brush it'll hang, I mean on very simple commands and I know my computer does not hang on such petty things. I thought I have everything needed: programming and administration skills, found a good designer, own servers and understanding how to operate site. • Do you use your personal laptop for work?

  We're trying to get our company to let us use our own personal laptop for client work. We've agreed that any code/data will be encrypted using something like TrueCrypt, in case the laptop is stolen or lost. However, the company is still skeptical and not sure they want to allow us to use our personal machines for development. They would rather buy us laptops... but we want to use MacBook Pros and they don't want to pay for them. Even if they did buy us laptops, we would stil have the issue of needing to encrypt the code/data in case of theft/loss. Do you use your own laptop for work? What are the arguments for/against this?

  I want to consult you in an SEO matter which i am completely lost with, I've built a social mobile application that allows users to share text content and made all the content that appears on the application available via the web through dedicated links, however, those links cannot be navigated through the website but they are generated when users shares content through the app to social media networks. I've implemented this method on three applications with totally different content, and I've directed all generated URLs to be from the main company website which is http://frootapps.com so when users shares something, the url will change to http://frootapps.com/qareeb/share.aspx?data=127311. I've clicked through the service a lot but couldn't find what I'm accustomed to. I can see multitude of aggregated statistics in GA like: charts of browser share lists of country share lists of most visited URLs within the page and so on, but I would actually like to analyze each of the visits themselves. Something like: User X, France, Chrome, 7 pageviews between 18:01 and 18:15, entered on a.htm and exited on b.htm User Y, UK, Firefox, 1 pageview at 18:20, entered on c.htm Is there an easy way to see the reports in this way (perhaps by clicking a link to a separate page to see that particular session's stats)? How to navigate there if so?

• How do I make the jump from developing for Android to Windows Phone 7?

  I'm planning on making the jump over from developing apps for Android to developing apps for Windows Phone 7 as well. For starters, I figured I would port over my simplest app. The code itself isn't much of a problem as the transition from Java to C# isn't that bad. If anything, this transition is actually easier than I expected. What is troublesome is switching SDKs. I've already compiled some basic Windows Phone 7 apps and ran through some tutorials but I'm still feeling a bit lost. For example, I'm not sure what the equivalent of a ScrollView on Android would be on Windows Phone 7. So does anyone have any advice or any resources they can offer me to help me make this transition? Additionally, any comments on the Windows Phone 7 app market (especially in comparison to the Android market) would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your time.
