    Hi all, I wish to create a personalized google map (as is shown here), I see it is possible to import a geo file (KML, KMZ or GeoRSS) with many points. I would love to use that but don't know how to create such a geo file in the first place. Which one should I use? What is the best way to create them? Thanks.

  • Drupal + GMap macro, map markers not displayed

    Hi. I've run into a strange problem in the GMap module for Drupal. When I display a map inside a node using a GMap macro, everything is displayed correctly (according to what I specify in the macro or leave at default), save for map markers. I'm trying to specify a map marker, but it refuses to be displayed. My macro is the following: [gmap zoom=17 |center=53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695 |markers=big blue::53.77420697757659,20.474138259887695] I was unable to find any help on Drupal forums, both the official one and one local to my country. For completeness' sake, I do not wish to use a GMap view, just add a macro in a regular node. Hope you can help me find a solution. Thanks in advance for your replies...

    Hi. I am new to the googlemaps API. I have written a small app for my mobile phone that periodically updates its location to an SQL databse. I would like to display this information on a googlemap in my browser. Ideally i'd like to then poll the database periodically and if any new co-ords have arrived, add them to the line.   • Is there any gmap's api function to concatenate address string from AddressDetails structure?

    Hello! I’am using Google Map’s GClientGeocoder for reversing map coordinates into string address. Exactly as shown in google’s example here http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?exp=maps#geocoding_reverse But, I would like to extract LocalityName (place.AddressDetails.Country.AdministrativeArea.Locality.LocalityName) from place.address. The straight way will be join all AddressDetails elements, excluding LocalityName. However order of the structure elements in final string representation is depends from geographical location. For example: Order for Australia city: ThoroughfareName + “, ” + LocalityName + “ ” + AdministrativeAreaName + “ ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + CountryName Order for Russian city: CountryName + “, ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + LocalityName + “, ” +ThoroughfareName Moreover PostalCodeNumber was not supplied in AddressDetails for the last example. Please, help!

  • Android "Hello, MapView" Tutorial - Map Tiles Do Not Load

    I am new to Android software development and new to this site. I am hoping someone might have some experience with the problem I am having. I've been following the Hello, MapView tutorial in order to not only learn the Android framework, but also the Google Maps library. I've tried my best to implement things exactly as the tutorial has instructed. My problem is that the application does load in my emulator (or even on my phone for that matter), but the map tiles do not load. Searching Google I found a post by someone else on another site having the same issue, but his/her problem was that the important elements added to the AndroidManifest.xml file were not in the right order. I double-checked this in mine, but everything seems to be right. So, I am not sure what the issue is and was hoping others have seen this before. I can provide any snippets of code, if that would help. Thank you.

    anyone knows a simple JS library implementing the UNZIP algorithm? No disk-file access, only zip and unzip a string of values. there are ActiveX, using WinZIP and other client dependent software for ZIP, written in JS. but no pure algorithm implementation, is it really difficult or non-functional? i would use it for displaying KMZ files in a HTML page with the GMap object (google maps). The KMZ file is just a zipped KML file. I want to unzip a KMZ file and feed the KML to GMap.

    Here's my situation; I've built a very simple web app that looks up a users location and plots it on a Google map. Here's my code: http://pastebin.com/d3a185efd When I test it, my location is detected as being = 500 meters from where I actually stand. BUT When I open up Google Maps or Gowalla my location is correct to within <20 meters? So my question is: Do native iPhone apps benefit from a higher accuracy rate than web apps? If so, why?

    Hi, I am trying to create a wpf control that will display a map image using google maps. I want to be able to centre the map on a longitude and latitude specified by the application. Ideally, the control will then allow the user to move a map marker and store the latitude/longitude of the marker in the application. The only way I can think of doing this is to use a WebBrowser control and create a HTML string at runtime that shows a map of the desired location. This seems like an awkward solution and won't allow me to easily retrieve the marker location. Does anyone know of a better way to accomplish this?

    I have a question regarding map api. I was using the the google map api in my website before. But since I have encryption the site using HTTPS/SSL support, the google map api stopped working. I checked online, and realised that google has a Premier account only that would allow me to use HTTPS supported maps api and it cost $10,000 per year. I do not this kind of money with me. So, can you give any other alternative to have a map api on my website. Anything that could give me driving directions would be fine. Regards Zeeshan

  • Geocode multiple addresses

    I need to geocode around 200 addresses per request and do around 3,000 request per day. I will be doing this server side using PHP. I have looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/98449/how-to-convert-an-address-to-a-latlon, but could not find a way for either Google Maps HTTP Request API or the Yahoo Geocoding REST API (cannot use JavaScript as this is server side) to send multiple addresses. I will be primarily using this to sort addresses based on the coordinates and if the API supports, fill in any missing data for each address. The addresses will be in the United States only. The addresses to geocode will be from user input, so be free form, like "street address, postal code", or "city, state", etc. Accuracy is not too important for the coordinates, say within five hundred feet or so. Is there a free API to handle this? Is there a way to get Yahoo or Google to do multiple locations in a request?

    I'm building a website in Django, and I want one of my datatypes to be a geographical polygon. I want to mark points on a map (say, in Google Maps) and then store the resulting polygon in the database. Is there any way to do it that will save me the work of typing all the longitudes and latitudes manually? I guess I'm looking both for a geographical library for Python, and for a special website that will let me mark points on the map and save them in a standard format. Thanks!

  • REST API for driving distance?

    Is there a service that will give me the driving distance between two addresses? Apparently Google Maps API requires you to display a map, which I don't want to do (on that particular page), and I'd like to just snag the data and save it to my DB after a user submits a form, rather than waiting for JS to do it's thing. If it's relevant, this is going into a Django app. I discovered that CloudMade offers a Python API, which is nice, except their latest dev release has a bug in it (can't use the API object), but more importantly, it's support for Canada is awful/worthless (couldn't find directions from any major city around here!).

    Hi all, i have a problem in iphone application that i have integrated google map and i am calculating center runtime so that the map shows both points on the iphone screen, the alogrithm applied (thanks to stackover flow) is working fine in case of 2 locations very far from each other. But it is not working for near locations and the zoom level goes too much that it is not able to show any images of those two near locations, so i want to put a check that if the location are very near to each other OR the google is not able to show the maps of the locations then it choose the default zoom level so that it shows the map on the screen instead of blank / black screen.   • Passing GLatLng from array to Google

    Hello All, To preface this, I am a complete programming amateur so this may be quite easily solved. As is though, it is frustrating me to no end. Basically, I have a database of Venue Names with GLat and GLng (other stuff too) that I am pulling down to my website based on a geolocated search. The javascript that I have pulls in a formatted subset of the database, dumps the glat and glng into an array and is supposed to take those points and plot out several markers each with an info window containing the details behind each marker. For some reason, the marker geodata is not being populated and/or is not being passed. The array is declared using [] and will not work when normally declared using (). It only brings up a map with the first value in the array and goes blank if i try to manually input later entries. There is a large block of commented out code relating to directions generation. That code worked for some reason. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong in rewriting it to map the markers and not give directions, please tell me.   • Determine the lat lngs of markers within a polygon

    I have a google maps app which plots markers as it loads. One of the new requirment is to to add a Polygon overlay encompassing a selection of markers by the user. I was able to achieve that using the Geometry Controls of the GMaps Utility Library Now, the next step is to form a group of the selected markers for which I would need to determine if the lat lngs of the markers falls within the lat lngs of the polygon? Is there a way to determine the lat lngs of a polygon and compute if the marker's lat lng is within its boundaries?
