    I'm wanting to parse a string into a nullable int in C#. ie. I want to get back either the int value of the string or null if it can't be parsed. I was kind of hoping that this would work int? val = stringVal as int?; But that won't work, so the way I'm doing it now is I've written this extension method public static int? ParseNullableInt(this string value) { if (value == null || value.Trim() == string.Empty) { return null; } else { try { return int.Parse(value); } catch { return null; } } } Is there a better way of doing this? EDIT: Thanks for the TryParse suggestions, I did know about that, but it worked out about the same. I'm more interested in knowing if there is a built-in framework method that will parse directly into a nullable int?

    I am trying to use JQuery to pull a binary file from a webserver, parse it in Javascript and display the contents. I can get the file ok and parse some of the file correctly. How ever I am running into trouble with one byte not coming out as expected. I am parsing the file a byte at a time, it is correct until I get to the hex value B6 where I am getting FD instead of B6. Function to read a byte data.charCodeAt(0) & 0xff; File As Hex: 02 00 00 00 55 4C 04 00 B6 00 00 00 The format I want to parse the file out into. short: 0002 short: 0000 string: UL short: 0004 long: 0000B6 Any hints as to why the last value is incorrect?

    I have a simple string containing VAT-percantage value that needs to be stored in a decimal. The string looks like this: "19.00%". When I use the decimal.Parse() methode I always get an FormatException. Code looks like this NumberFormatInfo nfi = new NumberFormatInfo() { PercentDecimalSeparator = ".", PercentSymbol = "%" }; decimal.Parse("19.00%",NumberStyles.Any, nfi); I know, that it would be possible (in the excample above) to simply remove the %-char from the string and then parse. But isn't there a solution to use built in parsing, which can be used without testing the string for the type of number the user typed in.

  • BigInteger.Parse() on hexadecimal number gives negative numbers.

    I've started using .NET 4 System.Numerics.BigInteger Structure and I've encountered a problem. I'm trying to parse a string that contains a hexadecimal number with no sign (positive). I'm getting a negative number. For example, I do the following two asserts: Assert.IsTrue(System.Int64.Parse("8", NumberStyles.HexNumber, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) > 0, "Int64"); Assert.IsTrue(System.Numerics.BigInteger.Parse("8", NumberStyles.HexNumber, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) > 0, "BigInteger"); The first assert succeeds, the second assert fails. I actually get -8 instead of 8 in the BigInteger. The problem seems to be when I'm the hexadecimal starts with 1 bit and not 0 bit (a digit between 8 and F inclusive). If I add a leading 0, everything works perfectly. Is that a bad usage on my part? Is it a bug in BigInteger?

For example, the first row has the string "TEST 12OING 06/01/2010 DATE: 04/10/2012" in the note column. I need to parse '04/10/2012' out of that row. I would like to be able to read from a csv file such as the one above and parse out that date and add it as a new column in the csv file. Thanks for any help.

    So I had this structure in xml and I was able to parse it successfully. Now what I have done is that I converted this xml into a JSON using www.xmltojson.org but I am not able to parse it .   • Google chrome is always searching in local google domain instead of Google.com

    I have changed in the searched preferences to google.com but still when I do search from the address bar (instant or non-instant) it will go to google.co.kr. Even though I change "Google.com in English", still same... The only way is to open google.com website first, then do search in it. So the question - is there any way to force Chrome to search in Google.com instead of google.co.kr? I understand there is some geolocational checking/redirecting, but there must be some way to force...

  • WS2008 NTP - Using time.windows.com,0x9 - Time always skewed forwards

    I have a domain controller configured to use time.windows.com (with 0x09 flags set). I've noticed that frequently the systems' clock is fast - it varies from 10 minutes to even 45 minutes. I always have to keep resetting the system date/time back to what it should be. When I run "w32tm /query /source" it tells me it's using time.windows.com, and obviously I trust Microsoft not to serve incorrect times, but why is my server's clock fast? EDIT: There are a few Time-Service events in the System log: Event ID: 142 Message: The time service has stopped advertising as a time source because the local clock is not synchronized. Event ID: 139 Message: The time service has started advertising as a time source. These two messages appear in pairs every hour or so. Event 142 appears 14 to 16 minutes after 139 appears. Going back a few months, these events appear: Event ID: 35 Message: The time service is now synchronizing the system time with the time source time.windows.com,0x9 (ntp.m|0x9|0.0.0.0:123-65.55.21.21:123). Event ID: 37 Message: The time provider NtpClient is currently receiving valid time data from time.windows.com,0x9 (ntp.m|0x9|0.0.0.0:123-65.55.21.21:123). Event ID: 47 Message: Time Provider NtpClient: No valid response has been received from manually configured peer time.windows.com,0x9 after 8 attempts to contact it. This peer will be discarded as a time source and NtpClient will attempt to discover a new peer with this DNS name. The error was: The time sample was rejected because: The peer is not synchronized, or it has been too long since the peer's last synchronization. These three events only appear once in the log, back in October.

  • ssh connection slow when using @hostname.com but now when using @ipaddress

    When connecting to a Debian server using ssh, if I use [email protected] (the IP address of hte server) the connection is instant. If however I use user@hostname.com (a DNS redirected to the IP address of the server) the ssh connection hangs for a 20 seconds before connecting successfully. The ssh logs show the following: [alex@alex home]$ ssh -v -v git@hotname.com OpenSSH_5.5p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0c-fips 2 Dec 2010 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 and here it hangs during 20 seconds before continuing. I think it might have something to do with reverse DNS or similar (the server does not really "know" it's name is hostname.com, it just has that DNS rediriected to its IP address). I have added the following options to /etc/ssh/sshd_config: UseDNS no GSSAPIAuthentication no to no effect. The server's DNS records in /etc/resolv.conf are configured correctly: ping hostname.com PING sub.domain.com (X.X.X.X) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.029 ms 64 bytes from replicant (X.X.X.X): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.050 ms?s Thanks for the help. Solution: It seems the DSL router my ISP saddled me with was causing the trouble. Changing my DNS server from 192.168.1.1 (router's IP) to google's (8.8.8.8, always good to know when you are in a hurry) instantly solved the connection delay problem. I am guessing that the 50€ router provided does not cache DNS entries, although I don't understand why pinging the DNS address had no delay, and 20 seconds is too long of a wait, even for uncached DNS.     Hello. I have a problem with my first-time ssh connection. Yes, I've already done yours guides, already tried your "Dealing with firewalls and proxies" article and the problem is still occuring. I am using Win7 32bit, Windows Firewall is disabled, haven't any third-party firewalls, ESET Nod32 Antivirus is not blocking any ports, I am not using any PROXY (neither local proxy) . I have just GIT INIT locally, and finished at step GIT PUSH, which returns the same: ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Bad file number fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly corkscrew method (first article from yours guide) . While PUTTYing (with pageant in bg), after inputing login - an error is occuring (MessageBox): Disconnected: No supported authentication methods available And in terminal such message is printing out: Server refused our key Key I have generated correctly, using ssh-keygen. I tried not method by editing ~/.ssh/config yet because I had thought that because I haven't PUSHed anything to my remote repo so I won't be able to CLONE anything. Method called ssh-forwarding is not for my, cause it "requires access to an external ssh server" and I haven't any at this time. What else could I do? Thanks in advance for any help. Mariusz.

  • Setup my domain at Whois.com as nameservers for a Dedicated Server with Kloxo

    Hello, this is my first time at ServerFault, I'm a stackoverflow user. I'm faceing the next problem and may be its me, but I can't find proper guides to set up a domain and nameservers for a dedicated box. I have a domain, at whois.com, and a Dedicated server at Reliable Hosting Services, the server has 5 IPs, I know that I need 2 of them for the nameservers. Right now, my domain at whois.com is using nsX.whois.com nameservers and it has 2 child nameservers: ns1.mydomain.com & ns2.mydomain.com pointing to those 2 IPs from my Server. Whats next? I still cannot set that domain as my main server domain since it says: To map an IP to a domain, the domain must ping to the same IP, otherwise, the domain will stop working. The domain you are trying to map this IP to, doesn't resolve back to the IP, and so it cannot be set as the default domain for the IP. Well and I'm stuck on those steps, whats next to have my nameservers working and my main domain assigned to my server? Thank you very much and happy new year!!

  • Is there an easy way to always redirect facebook.com to facebook.com/events/list (Firefox, Osx)

    I often use facebook for communication while working. When I do, I'd rather not see the facebook newsfeed. Unfortunately it's hard to remember to not go to the frontpage and use facebook.com/messages or facebook.com/events. Is there any way to always redirect from the url https://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/events/list? I use firefox on osx. I have tried the redirector addon and I'm not able to make it work, not sure if I'm missing something obvious or if it's outdated/buggy.

  • yum install gcc fails with invalid linux.dropbox.com/fedora directory

    I am relatively new to Linux administration. I have installed Centos 6.5 (under VirtualBox on a Win7pro system).   • How to avoid en.voyages-sncf.com redirecting to uk.voyages-sncf.com?

    OK, so en.voyages-sncf.com is French Railways' English language website with full functionality for train booking in France - it sells iDTGV, offers seating options etc. uk.voyages-sncf.com is their UK subsidiary, with reduced functionality, no seat options, no iDTGV etc. Previously, I have been able to select 'Other countries (EUR)' top right and go from the uk version to the en version, or just type in the direct url 'en.voyages-sncf.com and go there. Now, they seem to have implemented an automatic redirect so whenever I enter 'en.voyages-sncf.com' on my UK-based PC or indeed try to select 'Other countries (EUR)' it automatically bumps me to uk.voyages-sncf.com, which I don't want. I can't get onto en.voyages-sncf at all. So, short of using a heavyweight solution like using a non-UK proxy server or downloading the TOR browser, is there any simple solution? Like telling my browser to go to en.voyages-sncf, go directly to en.voyages-sncf and no other site, do not pass go, do not collect £200, do not go anywhere else, ignore all redirects and do what you're told by ME, not by those Machiavellian so-and-sos?

  • Event notification for ::SCardListReaders() [migrated]

    In the PC/SC (Personal Computer Smart Card) Appln, I have (MSCAPI USB CCID based) 1) Calling ::SCardListReaders() returns SCARD_E_NO_READERS_AVAILABLE (0x8010002E). This call is made after OS starts fresh after reboot, from a thread which is part of my custom windows service. 2) Adding delay before ::SCardListReaders() call solves the problem. 3) How can I solve this problem elegantly ? Not using delay & waiting for some event to notify me. since a) Different machines may require different delay values b) Cannot loop since the error code is genuine c) Could not find this event as part of System Event Notification Service or similar COM interface d) platform is Windows 7 Any Help Appreciated.
