  • Google I/O 2012 - OAuth 2.0 for Identity and Data Access

    Google I/O 2012 - OAuth 2.0 for Identity and Data Access Ryan Boyd Users like to keep their data in one place on the web where it's easily accessible. Whether it's YouTube videos, Google Drive files, Google contacts or one of many other types of data, users need a way to securely grant applications access to their data. OAuth is the key web standard for delegated data access and OAuth 2.0 is the next-generation version with additional security features. This session will cover the latest advances in how OAuth can be used for data access, but will also dive into how you can lower the barrier to entry for your application by allowing users to login using their Google accounts. You will learn, through an example written in Python, how to use OAuth 2.0 to incorporate user identity into your web application. Best practices for desktop applications, mobile applications and server-to-server use cases will also be discussed. • Speeding Up NHibernate Startup Time

    - by Ricardo Peres
    One technique I use and posted on the NHUsers mailing list consists in serializing a previously-configured Configuration to the filesystem and deserializing it on all subsequente starts of the application: Configuration cfg = null; IFormatter serializer = new BinaryFormatter(); //first time cfg = new Configuration().Configure(); using (Stream stream = File.OpenWrite("Configuration.serialized")) { serializer.Serialize(stream, configuration); } //other times using (Stream stream = File.OpenRead("Configuration.serialized")) { cfg = serializer.Deserialize(stream) as Configuration; } Check it out for yourselves. • Getting Current Native Thread

    - by Ricardo Peres
    The native OS threads running in the current process are exposed through the Threads property of the Process class. Please note that this is not the same as a managed thread, these are the actual native threads running on the operating system. In order to get a pointer to the current executing thread, we must use P/Invoke. Here's how we do it: [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] public static extern UInt32 GetCurrentThreadId(); UInt32 id = GetCurrentThreadId(); ProcessThread thread = Process.GetCurrentProcess().Threads.Cast().Where(t = t.Id == id).Single(); SyntaxHighlighter.config.clipboardSwf = 'http://alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/2.0.320/scripts/clipboard.swf'; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.CSharp.aliases = ['c#', 'c-sharp', 'csharp']; SyntaxHighlighter.all();

  • Intel NUC Video Blur

    - by donopj2
    I recently purchased the D34010WYKH NUC and I figured this would be a great time to make the jump to a Linux based system. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm having an issue with video rendering that is driving me mad. Essentially videos (all 1080p mkv files) appear to be slowly blurring, and its most noticeable when the camera remains on a scene for a long period of time. Then all of a sudden the video will correct the blur and the image will be sharp, only to begin happening again followed by more sudden and noticeable corrections. I have seen the exact same issue in both VLC and XBMC and across several different videos. I have installed the latest Intel graphics drivers, and searched the web but to be honest I'm not sure how to accurately describe this problem. I'm also quite new to the OS, so my experience tinkering is limited. Has anyone experienced this type of issue before? Can it be resolved?

    I installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my old laptop (Sharp Mebius PC-MR80J), but sound does not work. Here are things I tried. aplay -l does not output anything. When I run alsamixer, I see only one bar that says "Beep". I installed pavucontrol, pulseaudio, pulseaudio-utils and libgtk-3-0 and checked output devices, but I only see "Dummy ouput" and there is no hardware output devices. cat /proc/asound/cards returns the following. 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfeb38000 irq 40 cat /proc/asound/devices outputs the following. 1: : sequencer 2: [ 0- 1]: hardware dependent 3: [ 0- 0]: hardware dependent 4: [ 0] : control 33: : timer The laptop was running Windows XP before and sound (both input and outpu) was working. • Help identifying device and driver for 0bda:1724

    - by user104547
    I've got a new Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13. The onboard lan/bluetooth device is identified in Linux as 0bda:1724 (via lsusb). No network peripherals are reported from lspci. From the interwebs, the vendor:product above looks to be RT2573, however, in Windows, the device is identified as RTL8723A. Unfortunately, I have followed both roads, trying rt2500usb, rt2x00usb, and rtl8723e. I have emailed Realtek asking them for help but so far my email has fallen on deaf ears. I've posted the output of lspci -nn -v and lsusb -v to: http://pastebin.com/dqvTSVjF Any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you, Ryan

  • Yet Yet Another Way To Create An Object

    - by Ricardo Peres
    Yep, there's still another one: FormatterServices. This one allows one to create an object without running it's constructor... it is used by some of our good friends serializers. Stopwatch watch = new Stopwatch(); for (Int32 i = 0; i Beware, though: because the constructor isn't run (and remember that all fields that are initialized inline are also in fact initialized in the constructor), the object's state may be invalid. Enough object construction for now... • Local Entities with NHibernate

    - by Ricardo Peres
    You may know that Entity Framework Code First has a nice property called Local which lets you iterate through all the entities loaded by the current context (first level cache). This comes handy at times, so I decided to check if it would be difficult to have it on NHibernate. It turned out it is not, so here it is! Another nice addition to an NHibernate toolbox! public static class SessionExtensions { public static IEnumerable<T> Local<T>(this ISession session) { ISessionImplementor impl = session.GetSessionImplementation(); IPersistenceContext pc = impl.PersistenceContext; foreach (Object key in pc.EntityEntries.Keys) { if (key is T) { yield return ((T) key); } } } } //simple usage IEnumerable<Post> localPosts = session.Local<Post>(); SyntaxHighlighter.config.clipboardSwf = 'http://alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/2.0.320/scripts/clipboard.swf'; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.CSharp.aliases = ['c#', 'c-sharp', 'csharp']; SyntaxHighlighter.all();

  • Printer "ripping" forever (network printer)

    - by Julien Gorenflot
    Since I installed Ubuntu 11.10, printing is a disaster. I did not have the problem with Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04), but maybe it just comes from the fact that someone else had installed it for me, and possibly it configured better. When I print a pdf, even 2 pages, my printer (SHARP MX 2300N) stays in rippen for hours. "Rippen" is a German word, not really sure how to translate. Google translate says, The English equivalent is "Rib". And eventually, sometimes, the pages finally get printed. But in between my whole floor is very angry because they also need the printer. Additionally, I don't always have the whole day for waiting for my pages. I remember that when printing I used to be asked if I wanted to reduce transparency effects, which does not seem to happen anymore after I installed Ubuntu 11.10. Is there any connection? Not sure, because I don't think it was for pdf files.

  • SQL Excursions

    - by Grant Fritchey
    Not everyone likes boats. Some people like hanging out, on dry land, maybe sipping a good wine. Interested in doing that AND learning some new stuff about SQL Server? Then you might want to check out SQL Excursions. Denny Cherry (blog|twitter), MVP and terribly sharp individual, has organized this new venture to supply small group training in combination with travel to interesting, and let's face it, comfortable, places. The first trip is already set for Napa Valley. The training will be by Denny and MVP, author, and all round great guy, Thomas LaRock (blog|twitter). Seats for this unique event are going fast. I'd suggest signing up soon. Oh, and did I forget to mention that Red Gate is sponsoring dinner at a fine restaurant? Well, consider it mentioned. Seriously, nice wine, great training, beautiful scenery, networking, all in one place. What are you waiting for?

  • How can you become a real programming polyglot?

    - by Yob
    I work as a Java programmer, but C and C++ were always my favourite languages during studies. Unfortunatelly I don't have an opportunity to work with them as often as I would like to. As a result I sometimes get realized that I don't remember something quite important (today example: inherited protected members cannot be accessed in derived class constructors). The other example could be Python and Haskell which I enjoy using but don't use everyday. I got an idea to write my own wiki with easy to forget things (e.g. bash tricks & tips) but I find no sense in writing there everything I can forget about coolest programming languages. I know that the best way would be having a side projects (I want to start working on some C/C++ open source project after graduation), but currently I have to write my graduation thesis and work so I merely don't have time to do this. How do you stay sharp in languages that you don't use everyday?

  • How to make Pokémon White 3D effect?

    - by Pipo
    I just wondered how to create a 3D effect similar to Pokemon White/Black? It seems to be not polygon based, but created just with sprites. If the perspective changes the sprites stay sharp and don't get blurred. How can I archive this? Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZEPUPYOnRc&feature=youtube_gdata_player Edit: Wow, two downvotes because I used a video instead of screenshots? Don't get me wrong, I thank you, because you want to help me, but the 3D effect can be better understand in motion. Anyway, here is a screenshot: http://wearearcade.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/pokemon-black-white-starter-town.jpg So, if this is a hardware limitation, how can I archive this o na different hardware, e.g. a HTML5 game? I've been working as a web developer since 1998, mostly with ASP/ASP.Net/C# but began as a Java coder (JSP mostly). Its been fun but now I'm feeling jaded and can see the need for a change. I've considered iOS/Cocoa development and Android development recently (Objective-C looks hard while I'm a former Java developer) but I'm not sure of Career opportunities being proficient in either would afford The incline of the learning curve - I just turned 40 and I know I'm not as sharp or as quick as I once was. • Did Microsoft Add Wiretapping Capability to Skype?

    Ryan Gallagher, writing for Slate, put two and two together from a lot of no comments. He noted that back in 2007, German police forces said that they couldn't tap into Skype calls because of of its strong encryption and complicated peer-to-peer network connections; in fact, Skype bluntly stated at the time that, due to its encryption and architecture techniques, it couldn't conduct wiretaps. But that may have changed. Gallagher cited a Forbes article that claims the hacker community is talking about recent changes to Skype's architecture and whether they will allow users to be wiretapped. ...
