• Strange 401 (Unauthorized) when calling a WCF Service

  A WCF Service we call from BizTalk using WCF BasicHTTP usually works fine but all of a sudden it started returning 401 errors for some calls while others continued working as expected so it could not have been a "real" 401. The difference was the size of the message. One parameter of the service is a rather complex object. In the cases we got a 401 it got quite big (containing a lot of customer-data), say 5 MB. So we turned on tracking. The messages we traced out where about 20MB. Not too big for WCF one should suppose... A bit of research led us to increasing maxItemsInObjectGraph in the behaviours but that did not help. The service we call is in the same network as we are and is a WCF service. So we tried changing from BasicHTTP to net.tcp and Bingo! Ok, we had to use CustomBinding in BizTalk to set all the Quotas, etc. but it worked in the end.

For that solution after research I found that I have to use body.setGravityScale(0) method for my problem solution. • Where can I find accessible bug/issue databases with complete revision history

  I'm performing some research and analysis on bug/issue tracking databases and more specifically on how programmers and teams of programmers actually interact with them. What I'm looking for involves understanding how those databases change over time. So what I don't need for example: is a database of all the bugs of some open source project as the bugs exist today. What I do need is a complete set of revision history for every issue/bug in the database. This would enable me to pick a specific datetime and say here were the list of all the issues/bugs that existed at that moment in time. Anyway know of some publicly accessible issue/bug databases that expose this revision data? • How do I recover a .ogv on ext4?

  Hi! I have very a simple question. How to recover a .ogv file on my /home ext4 partition? I overwrote the .ogv file (I confused input and output in Arista transcoder). I did research. TestDisk can undelete files on FAT and NTFS, but not on EXT4. PhotoRec does not support .ogv recovering.   Being an IT student, I was recently given some overview about design patterns by one of our teachers. I understood what they are for but some aspects still keep bugging me. Are they really used by the majority of programmers? Speaking of experience, I've had some troubles while programming, things I could not solve for a while, but google and some hours of research solved my problem. If somewhere in the web I find a way to solve my problem, is this a design pattern? Am I using it? And also, do you (programmers) find yourself looking for patterns (where am I supposed to look btw?) when you start the development? If so, this is certainly a habit that I must start to embrace.

• Ubuntu DVR - what are the options?

  According to my research, the best solution to use ubuntu server as a DVR system would be ZoneMinder. is there any alternatives to zoneminder out there? I'm not really happy it only has a web interface to control/view my cameras. And it doesn't have an option to record video stream non-stop. Am I missing something in its configuration? And the thing I really disappointed, I cant find a way to control my PTZ camera with it. what do manufacturers sell along with their standalone linux powered dvr systems?

• Elantech trackpad being identified as a logitech wheel mouse.

  I recently purchased a Samsung RF510 laptop computer, which I absolutely love. However, upon installing Ubuntu 10.10 onto it I couldn't get the trackpad to function properly. It worked as a basic mouse (point and click) but had no functionality for edge scrolling or any of the multitouch settings the trackpad is capable of. After doing a lot of research I discovered the reason is a known issue where the Ubuntu kernel will improperly detect an Elantech trackpad as a logitech PS/2 wheel mouse, and as such will gain none of the functionality that seems to be coded for synaptics trackpads. The question I have is: does anyone know a way to get this working properly? This is my first time trying to run Ubuntu on a laptop (actually, it's my first laptop in the last 12 years) and I'm finding the experience to be intolerable without the basic scrolling/zooming/etc I've been used to using for as long as I can remember.

• One-way platforms in UDK

  I'm looking to make a multi-player platforming game using UDK. I'm currently doing feasibility research, to make sure I will reasonably be able to do all of the technical things I want to do. The first major hurdle I've come across without being able to find as answer, are one-way platforms. That is to say, platforms through which a player can jump up, but not fall through (unless they choose to). These are commonly seen in games like Mario, Kirby and Smash Bros. Does anyone know how such a system would work within UDK? I can think of solutions that might work for single-player, but not multi.

• Ubuntu 12.04, web cam light flashing

  Have been running Ubuntu on my Compaq C757 reliably since 9.10. Currently running a fresh install of 12.04 LTS. Somewhere during my regular updates, my webcam started flashing its power light. Light flashes from logon screen all throughout my session. I am not running Google Chrome but chromium and firefox. Webcam works normally whenever I run Cheese webcam booth, light comes on solid and webcam works normally. I close out of Cheese, webcam shuts off, and then the light starts blinking again. My system is dual boot, when I boot into Windows 7, webcam does not exhibit this problem. I suspect issue may be related to new laptop power management settings in kernel based on research on the web of similar problems, but I do not know how to instruct it to treat webcam differently.

  I'm making a programming language, and, having spent some time in Lisp/Scheme, I feel that my language should be malleable. Should I use macros, or is there something else I might/should use? Is malleable syntax even a good idea? Is it perhaps too powerful a concept? EDIT: In doing some research, I found fexprs. I don't really understand what these are. Help with that in an answer too please. EDIT2: Is it possible to have a language with macros/something-of-a-similar-nature without having s-expressions?

• Almost Realtime Data and Web application

  I have a computer that is recording 100 different data points into an OPC server. I've written a simple OPC client that can read all of this data. I have a front-end website on a different network that I would like to consume this data. I could easily set the OPC client to send the data to a SQL server and the website could read from it, but that would be a lot of writes. If I wanted the data to be updated every 10 seconds I'd be writing to the database every 10 seconds. (I could probably just serialize the 100 points to get 1 write / 10 seconds but that would also limit my ability to search the data later). This solution wouldn't scale very well. If I had 100 of these computers the situation would quickly grow out of hand. Obviously I am well out of my league here and I have no experience with working with a large amount of data like this. What are my options and what should I research?

• How can a load and play an .x model using vertex animation in XNA?

  From a game I developed years ago, I still have character models that my former 3D engine designer created and that I'd like to reuse in a Windows Phone project now. However, the files are in DirectX format (.x) containing keyframe animation only. No bones. No skeleton. There are a lot of animation keys defined on several frames to animate the characters. I don't quite understand how that works, to be frankly. However, I did a lot of research regarding a possible way of getting the characters animated via XNA on Windows Phone and all I found are hints that it is generally possible but not supported. Possibly by implementing own Content Importers and Processors. I didn't find anyone who successfully did something like that yet. How should I go about loading and displaying these models in XNA?

  I have implemented much of my game logic right now, but still create my maps with nasty for-loops on-the-fly to be able to work with something. Now I wanted to move on and to do some research on how to (un)serialize this data. I have read up a bunch of stuff on Design patterns J2EE Web services( soap and rest) spring and hibernate Java Concurrency - advanced features like Task and Executors. I would now like to do a project combining this stuff (over my free time of corse) to get a better understanding of these things and to kind of make an end to end software (to learn the best design principles etc + svn, maven). Any good project ideas would be really appreciated. I just wanna build this stuff to learn so I dont really mind re-inventing the wheel. Also, anything related to data mining would be an added bonus (fits with my research) but absolutly not necesary (since this project is more to learn to do large scale software developement)
