  I have a star schema but SQL Server 2005 always uses the clustered indexes to access a table. What parameters do I have to set to enable this optimization. According to http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlqueryprocessing/archive/2007/04/09/how-to-check-whether-the-final-query-plan-is-optimized-for-star-join.aspx and the DWH datasheet of SQL Server 2005 both claim, that SQL Server 2005 support this feature.

  When i set lower_case_table_names = 1 in mysql i know that it converts every table name to lowecase so "myCoolLowerCaseName" becomes "mycoollowercasename". But the question is: queries with camelcase name works ? with a table called mycoollowercasename the query:SELECT * FROM myCoolLowerCaseName works? Thanks

It appears the string is truncated when running this. What recommendations can anyone make. I have no control over the database structure and am only reading foxpro free tables.   Hi, I have been having trouble searching through a MySQL table, trying to find entries with the character (UTF-16 code 200E) in a particular column. This particular code doesn't have a glyph, so it doesn't seem to work when I try to paste it into my search term.   So I have a database that is setup sort of like this (simplified, and in terms of the tables, all are InnoDBs): Users: contains based user authentication information (uid, username, encrypted password, et cetera) Contacts: contains two rows per relationship that exists between users as (uid1, uid2), (uid2, uid1) to allow for a good 1:1 relationship (must be mutual) between users Messages: has messages that consist of a blob, owner-id, message-id (auto_increment) So my question is, what's the best MySQL query to get all messages that belong to all the contacts of a specific user? Is there an efficient way to do this?

  i have a simple update query (foo column type is BOOLEAN (default false)): update tablename set foo = true where id = 234; which "id" is set to (primary) key, and if i run "explain analyze" i got: Index Cond: (id = 234) Total runtime: 0.358 ms but still, i have plenty of unexplained queries at slow log (pgfouine), which took more than 200s (?!): Times executed: 99, Av. duration (s): 70 can anyone please explain, whats the reason for that? (1.5 mio rows in table, postgresql 8.4)
