  • Has anyone used tools like (Chef, Salt, Puppet, CfEngine) to configure a 2008 Win Server with Sql?

    I have been looking into tools to automate the creation of servers. For two different reasons: Production Development machines I love the idea of the immutable server. I have seen the tools demoed and used successfully on *nix boxes running Rails or Lamp etc. Has anyone found a good way to do this in the Microsoft stack? I would like to get in on the fun and create scripts that will install Windows, patch it according to specification, deploy Sql Server create scripts to build out a database and just for fun deploy SharePoint and configure it, and then deploy a SharePoint solution to it. I can get part of the way, install Windows manually, install Sql Server manually, use Powershell to do all the configuration and setup. Install SharePoint and configure part of it, then powershell for the rest of the configuration and deploying a solution. I would love to have the ability to run one script though, or at least one unified process. I can, and have mostly used VM template images and then instantiated them, but the creation of the template is usually a manual step.

  • tomcat start service NoClassDefFoundError?

    I am trying to redeploy my server on a new server with a different DNS and IP address. Therefore, I think my problem is in the configuration to find JAR files. Is there a way to get more detail as to which class is being requested so I can narrow down my problem. Does anyone have any suggested troubleshooting guidance for such problem? BTW - the configuration was working on the original server, and I tried to find all the locations in the files: conf/, worker.properties, server.xml, catalina.policy, web.xml. The jarkarta.log repeats the starting... error initializing ... forever. Very boring, therefore, the problem has to be fundamental.   • How can I configure Cyrus IMAP to submit a default realm to SASL?

    I have configured Postfix to work with SASL using plain text, where the former automatically submits a default realm to the latter when requesting authentication. Assuming the domain name is example.com and the user is foo, here is how I configured it on my Debian system so far. In the postfix configuration file /etc/main.cf: smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_sasl_local_domain = $mydomain The SMTP configuration file /etc/postfix/smtpd.conf contains: pwcheck_method: saslauthd mech_list: PLAIN The SASL daemon is configured with the sasldb mechanism in /etc/default/saslauthd: MECHANIMS="sasldb" The SASL database file contains a single user, shown by sasldblistusers2: [email protected]: userPassword The authentication works well without having to provide a realm, as postifx does that for me. However, I cannot find out how to tell the Cyrus IMAP daemon to do the same. I created a user cyrus in my SASL database, which uses the realm of the host domain name, not example.com, for administrative purpose. I used this account to create a mailbox through cyradm for the user foo: cm user.foo IMAP is configured in /etc/imapd.conf this way: allowplaintext: yes sasl_minimum_layer: 0 sasl_pwcheck_method: saslauthd sasl_mech_list: PLAIN servername: mail.example.com If I enable cross-realm authentication (loginrealms: example.com), trying to authenticate using imtest works with these options: imtest -m login -a [email protected] localhost However, I would like to be able to authenticate without having to specify the realm, like this: imtest -m login -a foo localhost I thought that using virtdomains (setting it either to userid or on) and defaultdomain: example.com would do just that, but I cannot get to make it work. I always end up with this error: cyrus/imap[11012]: badlogin: localhost [127.0.0.1] plaintext foo SASL(-13): authentication failure: checkpass failed What I understand is that cyrus-imapd never tries to submit the realm when trying to authenticate the user foo. My question: how can I tell cyrus-imapd to send the domain name as the realm automatically? Thanks for your insights!

  • Login error in phpMyAdmin, problem setting auth_type in config.inc.php

    I'm having a problem accessing phpMyAdmin. A few weeks ago I did succeed configuring it for auth_type = 'cookie', but I still receive an error stating that I should have to set blowfish_secret. That was strange because it was set. So I changed auth_type from cookie to http, but it didn't work. I also tried with other functions, but this gives the same error so it's not related to the create_function function. The string currently is just over 1KB in size so it looks like I have hit a limit here? Is my assumption correct? Is there a way to overcome this limit? I also tried to add another php_admin_value[disable_functions] underneath it (hoping it would be appended), but that didn't work (it just used the first one).

  • Configure linux machine as bridge/switch and end device

    At my home, I have two desktop PCs in two rooms. The router / DSL modem is in one of these rooms. Now I want to configure a home server (having 2 LAN ports, running 24/7) in the corridor between the two rooms, using only one LAN cable at each door. This gives me the following physical configuration: (door) (door) .----/-/----. .-----/-/----------._ FritzBox | | | .----´´ DSL Router PC1 Server | PC2 As just said, the server has 2 network interfaces and is running Ubuntu. What I need now is a network configuration which enables both the server and PC1 to connect to the router. I think the server needs to serve as a bridge or switch. Currently, all computers are configured having static IP addresses. If I'm understanding it correctly, a bridge / switch doesn't have its own IP address, but as the server needs to be configured as an own end device, it needs to have one. My first question is, do I have to configure both interfaces separately, giving both the same static IP address? My next question is, how do I bridge the two physical networks into one? I have basic understanding (but am always confused again and again) of bridges and switches, but I don't know how to configure it in software. I only know that it's possible to do so :) The third question is: Is it possible to configure this in a way that network packets from/to PC1 to/from the router only go through hardware or only consume low CPU in the server?     I'm configuring development & test FreeBSD machine on VM. I installed apache22 package and restarted. But the daemon does not started with this error: %apachectl start httpd: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for test.box httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80 (13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs % My hostname is test.box. Because this is temporary test box, it has no real domain-name. But I used 2-level name to avoid long time waiting of sshd on booting.   • SQL Server 2008 services error on account

    I installed SQL Server Enterprise, but can't get it to work. It is a stand alone, on a laptop for development purposes. No network is involved, no other users. The OS is windows 7. Now, I keep receiving eventId 7000, which means that access is denied for the user (the user was Network Services). So, after reading up on it, I kind of got the idea that a user account should be created with minimal privileges. So, off I went and added a user, SQLservices. In the SQL Server Configuration Manager I right clicked SQL Server(MSSQLSERVER), and in the properties I added my new user. Well, here's mister eventId 7000 again. I don't get what I am doing wrong. Also, this new user ends up on my start-up screen. I don't think I want that... I mean, it would be weird to have x number of users crowding up my start-up screen just because I created those for my windows services... The error I get when I add the user in SQL Server Configuration Manager is as follows: Permission Denied. [0x80070005] Helps!

  • Apache Virtual Host Issue

    I think I hate Apache now, but on with the issue. It might be a configuration error on my end or just my inability to see what's right in front of me, but I'm trying to configure a sub-domain in Apache and no matter what, it always redirects the sub-domain to the web root of the main domain.     Hi all, I am in need of some help with an error message I get with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. I would like to create a gallery for my site so I downloaded the NotesForGallery from codeplex. I have added the reference into the project like it told me to in the installation instructions.   • When adding WCF service reference, configuration details are not added to web.config

    Hi, I am trying to add a WCF service reference to my web application using VS2010. It seems to add OK, but the web.config is not updated, meaning I get a runtime exception: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CoolService.CoolService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. Obviously, because the service is not defined in my web.config. Steps to reproduce: Right click solution Add New Project ASP.NET Empty Web Application. Right click Service References in the new web app Add Service Reference. Enter address of my service and click Go. My service is visible in the left-hand Services section, and I can see all its operations. Type a namespace for my service. Click OK. The service reference is generated correctly, and I can open the Reference.cs file, and it all looks OK. Open the web.config file.     I am setting up a simple ActiveMQ embedded broker. It works fine, until I try to configure a persistence adapter. I am basically just copying the configuration from http://activemq.apache.org/persistence.html#Persistence-ConfiguringKahaPersistence.   • C# Configuration Manager . ConnectionStrings

    I have a console app containing an application configuration file containing one connection string as shown below: <configuration> <connectionStrings> <add name="Target" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; Database=MYDB; Integrated Security=SSPI;" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> When I pass this to my Connection using: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[1].ToString() I have two values in there, hence using the second in the collection, my question is where is this second coming from? I have checked the Bin version and original and its not mine! Its obviously a system generated one but I have not seen this before? Can anyone enlighten me? The mystery connection string is: data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true This isn't a problem as such I would just like to know why this is occuring? Thanks in advance! For future reference to those who may or may not stumble on this, after discovering the machine.config its become apparent it is bad practice to refer to a config by its index as each stack will potentially be different, which is why "Keys" are used.   • Loading an XML configuration file BEFORE the flex application loads

    Hi, We are using an XML file as an external configuration file for several parameters in our application (including default values for UI components and properties values of some service layer objects). The idea is to be able to load the XML configuration file before the flex application initializes any of its components. This is crucial because XML loading is processed a-synchronously in flex, which can potentially cause race-conditions in the application. For example: the configuration file holds the endpoint URL of a web service used to obtain data from the server. The URL resides in the XML because we want to allow our users to alter the endpoint URL according to their environment. Now because the endpoint URL is retrieved only after the XML has been completely loaded, some of the application's components might be invoking operations on this web service before it is initialized with the correct endpoint. The trivial solution would have been to suspend the initialization of the application until the complete event is dispatched by the loader. But it appears that this solution is far from being trivial. I haven't found a single solution that allows me to load the XML before any other object in the application.   • JSR-299 (CDI) configuration at runtime

    I need to configure different @Alternatives, @Decorators and @Injectors for different runtime environments (think testing, staging and production servers). Right now I use maven to create three wars, and the only difference between those wars are in the beans.xml files. Is there a better way to do this? I do have @Alternative @Stereotypes for the different environments, but even then I need to alter beans.xml, and they don't work for @Decorators (or do they?) Is it somehow possible to instruct CDI to ignore the values in beans.xml and use a custom configuration source? Because then I could for example read a system property or other environment variable. The application exclusively runs in containers that use Weld, so a weld-specific solution would be ok. I already tried to google this but can't seem to find good search terms, and I asked the Weld-Users-Forums, but to no avail. Someone over there suggested to write my own custom extension, but I can't find any API to actually change the container configuration at runtime. I think it would be possible to have some sort of @ApplicationScoped configuration bean and inject that into all @Decorators which could then decide themselves whether they should be active or not and then in order to configure @Alternatives write @Produces methods for every interface with multiple implementations and inject the config bean there too. But this seems to me like a lot of unnecessary work to essentially duplicate functionality already present in CDI?

I would like to configure AT&T's hardware to have less control and use my trusted Linksys WRT54-G router between my computers and the 2Wire Gateway. This seems to be a common configuration for Uverse users with this hardware in other forums, but requires a "DMZPlus" mode that I'm unfamiliar with.
