  • Light following me around the room. Something is wrong with my shader!

    - by Robinson
    I'm trying to do a spot (Blinn) light, with falloff and attenuation. It seems to be working OK except I have a bit of a space problem. That is, whenever I move the camera the light moves to maintain the same relative position, rather than changing with the camera. This results in the light moving around, i.e. not always falling on the same surfaces. It's as if there's a flashlight attached to the camera. I'm transforming the lights beforehand into view space, so Light_Position and Light_Direction are already in eye space (I hope!). I made a little movie of what it looks like here: My camera rotating around a point inside a box. The light is fixed in the centre up and its "look at" point in a fixed position in front of it. As you can see, as the camera rotates around the origin (always looking at the centre), so don't think the box is rotating (!). The lighting follows it around. To start, some code. This is how I'm transforming the light into view space (it gets passed into the shader already in view space): // Compute eye-space light position. Math::Vector3d eyeSpacePosition = MyCamera->ViewMatrix() * MyLightPosition; MyShaderVariables->Set(MyLightPositionIndex, eyeSpacePosition); // Compute eye-space light direction vector. Math::Vector3d eyeSpaceDirection = Math::Unit(MyLightLookAt - MyLightPosition); MyCamera->ViewMatrixInverseTranspose().TransformNormal(eyeSpaceDirection); MyShaderVariables->Set(MyLightDirectionIndex, eyeSpaceDirection); Can anyone give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong here? I think the light should remain looking at a fixed point on the box, regardless of the camera orientation. Here are the vertex and pixel shaders: /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Vertex Shader /////////////////////////////////////////////////// #version 420 /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Uniform Buffer Structures /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Camera. layout (std140) uniform Camera { mat4 Camera_View; mat4 Camera_ViewInverseTranspose; mat4 Camera_Projection; }; // Matrices per model. layout (std140) uniform Model { mat4 Model_World; mat4 Model_WorldView; mat4 Model_WorldViewInverseTranspose; mat4 Model_WorldViewProjection; }; // Spotlight. layout (std140) uniform OmniLight { float Light_Intensity; vec3 Light_Position; vec3 Light_Direction; vec4 Light_Ambient_Colour; vec4 Light_Diffuse_Colour; vec4 Light_Specular_Colour; float Light_Attenuation_Min; float Light_Attenuation_Max; float Light_Cone_Min; float Light_Cone_Max; }; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Streams (per vertex) /////////////////////////////////////////////////// layout(location = 0) in vec3 attrib_Position; layout(location = 1) in vec3 attrib_Normal; layout(location = 2) in vec3 attrib_Tangent; layout(location = 3) in vec3 attrib_BiNormal; layout(location = 4) in vec2 attrib_Texture; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Output streams (per vertex) /////////////////////////////////////////////////// out vec3 attrib_Fragment_Normal; out vec4 attrib_Fragment_Position; out vec2 attrib_Fragment_Texture; out vec3 attrib_Fragment_Light; out vec3 attrib_Fragment_Eye; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Main /////////////////////////////////////////////////// void main() { // Transform normal into eye space attrib_Fragment_Normal = (Model_WorldViewInverseTranspose * vec4(attrib_Normal, 0.0)).xyz; // Transform vertex into eye space (world * view * vertex = eye) vec4 position = Model_WorldView * vec4(attrib_Position, 1.0); // Compute vector from eye space vertex to light (light is in eye space already) attrib_Fragment_Light = Light_Position - position.xyz; // Compute vector from the vertex to the eye (which is now at the origin). attrib_Fragment_Eye = -position.xyz; // Output texture coord. attrib_Fragment_Texture = attrib_Texture; // Compute vertex position by applying camera projection. gl_Position = Camera_Projection * position; } and the pixel shader: /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Pixel Shader /////////////////////////////////////////////////// #version 420 /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Samplers /////////////////////////////////////////////////// uniform sampler2D Map_Diffuse; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Global Uniforms /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Material. layout (std140) uniform Material { vec4 Material_Ambient_Colour; vec4 Material_Diffuse_Colour; vec4 Material_Specular_Colour; vec4 Material_Emissive_Colour; float Material_Shininess; float Material_Strength; }; // Spotlight. layout (std140) uniform OmniLight { float Light_Intensity; vec3 Light_Position; vec3 Light_Direction; vec4 Light_Ambient_Colour; vec4 Light_Diffuse_Colour; vec4 Light_Specular_Colour; float Light_Attenuation_Min; float Light_Attenuation_Max; float Light_Cone_Min; float Light_Cone_Max; }; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Input streams (per vertex) /////////////////////////////////////////////////// in vec3 attrib_Fragment_Normal; in vec3 attrib_Fragment_Position; in vec2 attrib_Fragment_Texture; in vec3 attrib_Fragment_Light; in vec3 attrib_Fragment_Eye; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Result /////////////////////////////////////////////////// out vec4 Out_Colour; /////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Main /////////////////////////////////////////////////// void main(void) { // Compute N dot L. vec3 N = normalize(attrib_Fragment_Normal); vec3 L = normalize(attrib_Fragment_Light); vec3 E = normalize(attrib_Fragment_Eye); vec3 H = normalize(L + E); float NdotL = clamp(dot(L,N), 0.0, 1.0); float NdotH = clamp(dot(N,H), 0.0, 1.0); // Compute ambient term. vec4 ambient = Material_Ambient_Colour * Light_Ambient_Colour; // Diffuse. vec4 diffuse = texture2D(Map_Diffuse, attrib_Fragment_Texture) * Light_Diffuse_Colour * Material_Diffuse_Colour * NdotL; // Specular. float specularIntensity = pow(NdotH, Material_Shininess) * Material_Strength; vec4 specular = Light_Specular_Colour * Material_Specular_Colour * specularIntensity; // Light attenuation (so we don't have to use 1 - x, we step between Max and Min). float d = length(-attrib_Fragment_Light); float attenuation = smoothstep(Light_Attenuation_Max, Light_Attenuation_Min, d); // Adjust attenuation based on light cone. float LdotS = dot(-L, Light_Direction), CosI = Light_Cone_Min - Light_Cone_Max; attenuation *= clamp((LdotS - Light_Cone_Max) / CosI, 0.0, 1.0); // Final colour.   • Why does newline come before space in the output of hexdump?

    - by ??????? ???????????
    Printing these characters in the "Canonical" format gives the output that I expect, while the default format throws me off. $ echo " " |hexdump # Reversed? 0000000 0a20 0000002 $ echo -n " " |hexdump # Ok, fair enough. 0000000 0020 $ echo " " |hexdump -C # Canonical 00000000 20 0a | .| 00000002 With a different string, such as "123" the output is even more confusing: $ echo "123" |hexdump 0000000 3231 0a33 0000004 The output here does not seem "reversed", but rather shuffled. Would anyone care to explain (briefly) what is going on here?

  • Why is windows 7 backup and restore utility using so much disc space?

    - by stuckey
    note: this is a reformation of a previous question, see: How exactly does the Backup and Restore utility in Windows7 work? I have per the task scheduler scheduled windows 7 backup and utility to run once a day. The amount of data I produce in a day is best measured in KiB yet, a few GiB of data is added to the backup destination set in the backup utility daily. Why is this? Is this due to this utility making what are called "normal" backups instead of "incremental" backups? If so, how can this setting be changed?

  • How can I free up disk space in my Ubuntu Hardy Heron install?

    - by rvs
    I'd like to make some room on /dev/sda1 without necessarily having to remove a whole bunch of applications (I've already gone through and deleted all frivolous apps). This is the state of /dev/sda1 currently: Dir: / Type: ext3 Total: 9.4GiB Free: 488.6MiB Available: 0bytes Used: 8.9GiB EDIT added du output from comments below: 769068 /var/lib/mysql 351208 /usr/lib 297060 /usr/local/bin/eclipse/plugins 184124 /usr/bin 175924 /usr/lib/openoffice/program 143940 /usr/local/bin/eclipsePHP/plugins 92520 /boot 81200 /opt/android-sdk-linux/add-ons/google_apis-6_r01/images 79964 /opt That's funny, because the tables in /var/lib/mysql are the reason that I ran out in the first place. But I need them, and room for many more possibly large db's.

  • Space a valid delimiter for email addresses in email header?

    - by semanticalo
    Is it syntactically correct to delimit multiple email recipients in the "To" header of an email with spaces only or do I need to use another delimiter (a semicolon or the like)? Example (MIME data reads as follows): Date: Mon, 04 Oct 2010 06:14:16 +0200 From: [email protected] To: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Subject: Test Subject The above will be processed by many email processing applications, but I need to know whether it's correct according to standard (RFC). Unfortunately I didn't find anything useful on the internet so far. Thanks a million for your help!

  • How to include space in drive label using command-line MS format?

    - by Leif Carlsen
    The obvious-to-me approaches fail. # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:512MB Disk Invalid parameter - Disk # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:"512MB Disk" Invalid parameter - Disk" # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:"512MB\ Disk" Invalid parameter - Disk" # format h: /fs:ntfs /q /y /V:512MB\ Disk Invalid parameter - Disk Okay, so label works after-the fact. # label h: 512MB Disk # But how to do it using format? Am I missing some kind of escape sequence?

  • What requirements does an IT department work space need?

    - by Rob
    Hello all, i need to provide a list of workspace requirements to the IT director for my network operations team. So far I got Secure workspace - so nothing gets stolen and people cant come up to us asking for support (they need a ticket from the helpdesk) Quite area - so that we can work and not be disturbed by the loud project managers who play soccer in the office sometimes. A large table or desk where we can setup and or config systems and servers if needed. What else do we need? Thanks in advance.

  • There is not enough space on the disk when there is?

    - by Lee Tickett
    Permissions are fine (inherited) and checking effective permissions everything is AOK. As you can see i can make a file in the docs folder but not the pdf_docs subfolder. The folder has a lot of files and is quite large- i wonder if i've reached a limit? I couldn't find anything on google. Size: 51.0 GB (54,819,804,885 bytes) Size on disk: 52.0 GB (55,925,719,040) Contains 554,697 Files EDIT I've just checked and i can delete files... and for every file i delete i appear to be able to create a new one. This definitely points toward a limit in terms of number of files?

  • What technical reasons exist for not using space characters in file names?

    - by Chris W. Rea
    Somebody I know expressed irritation today regarding those of us who tend not to use spaces in our filenames, e.g. NamingThingsLikeThis.txt -- despite most modern operating systems supporting spaces in filenames. Are there technical reasons that it's still common to see file names without (appropriate) spaces? If so, what are these technical reasons that spaces in filenames are avoided or discouraged, and in what circumstances are they relevant? The most obvious reason I could think of, and why I typically avoid it, are the extra quotes required on the command line when dealing with such files. Are there any other significant technical reasons?

  • How can I allow individual developers to have their own space to create git repositories?

    - by Jason Baker
    I have a server that is essentially a gitosis setup. I have a git user that has access to all the shared repositories. What I would like to do is have each developer be able to have their own "area" on this server to create their own repositories. I'd like these areas to be able to be viewable via gitweb. How can this be done that would require the least maintenance in terms of adding users and repositories? One obvious solution would be to just allow each developer to create repositories on the git login and have branches named something like <devname>-<reponame>. But I could see this getting unmanageable as the number of developers grows.

  • How to share drive space from vmware server 2 host to a guest?

    - by matnagel
    In the vmware tools in the guest there is an option to access shares from the host. What is the way to create such shares on a vmware 2 host? I did not find where in infrastructure web access. I also went through the vmware server 2 user's guide but did not see it mentioned. Can you help? This is an ubuntu 64 bit server 8.04 LTS host.

  • How can I enforce directory space limits in a OpenVPZ system?

    - by George
    The title says it all. I have some programs on a server (centos4-openvz) that use a directory as temp directory - but pay no attention to the size it grows. I want to enforcee a limit, like this folder cannot exceed 300mb. I would use quota but OpenVZ does not support loop devices to mount a file as such. Any other solutions? (apart from scripting a periodic delete of files in the directory). Editing the application's code to implement such a functionality is not entirely out of the question - if it can be done easily and no other ways exist.. Its written in cpp - but I don't know how to implement it.

  • How can I increase space on the Filesystem linux?

    - by xtrimsky
    I am renting a dedicated server with Parallel Plesk on it (which I hate and I try to use command line). I have a filesystem that is full,"df -H" prints this: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/md1 4.0G 4.0G 361k 100% / /dev/mapper/vg00-usr 4.3G 1.4G 3.0G 32% /usr /dev/mapper/vg00-var 4.3G 2.8G 1.6G 64% /var /dev/mapper/vg00-home 4.3G 4.4M 4.3G 1% /home none 1.1G 24M 1.1G 3% /tmp tmpfs 1.1G 0 1.1G 0% /usr/local/psa/handlers/before-local tmpfs 1.1G 0 1.1G 0% /usr/local/psa/handlers/before-queue tmpfs 1.1G 0 1.1G 0% /usr/local/psa/handlers/before-remote tmpfs 1.1G 0 1.1G 0% /usr/local/psa/handlers/info tmpfs 1.1G 0 1.1G 0% /usr/local/psa/handlers/spool The server I'm renting has 1TB of hard drive. Why are these so small, how can I increase my storage ? (I'm pretty beginner with Linux). Thank you

  • Simple Ubuntu Server - Expanding disk space - adding a new drive LVM, RAID0 existing setup - how?

    - by NightWolf
    I have a 1TB ext4 partition mounted at / with all my data and Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) installed. Now this drive is almost full (I used it as a database server for some processing). RAID0 is ok, I can take a failure (touch wood). But I need a way to grow this partition. I have a new 1TB drive I want to add, however as my Ubuntu boot and all data is on the one partition I'm not sure how I can go about setting up a RAID0 or LVM array without loosing all my data. So the question is how can I extend my existing ext4 partition over two physical drives without losing data? Thanks!

  • How to disable check of free disk space before copying files?

    - by tputkonen
    I really hate the feature in Windows 7, that it verifies before copying any files whether the files fit to the destination drive. I have a pretty old MP3 player and I want to just select n songs and drag & drop them to the player, and copy as many files of the selection as possible. Windows 7 refuses to copy any of the files if all of them don't fit to the destination drive. How can I disable this annoying behaviour?

  • Concerning persistence size in the Linux Live Creator

    - by user63085
    Message : Hello everyone! I have ,for the last several months, used the Linux Live USB Creator which it is a very useful app to make portable OS on to flash drives. I mostly use this application to test and try out new OS's as they are released, before I decide to make a hard disk installatio on to the computer. In many cases, the application developers will allow the “persistence” feature in the flash-drive-installed OS, which is just another way of saying that after multiple boot-ups and shutdowns, all the changes made to the OS will be saved in the flash-drive. But I have a question about the limit of the Persistence size in Linux Live USB Creator (currently version 2.6). I install Super OS 10 on to a partition on my external drive which has 30 GB. I wanted to reserve 10 GB for the persistence so that I can install more applications and space will not run out as I update the installed applications or when I do system updates. But why is it that only 3950 MB can be put for persistence? It would be great if, when desired, as much more persistence space could be set aside so that the space will not run out soon. Also, as I have installed the OS on a 30 GB drive, I tried to see how much space is left. But it seems only the remaining of the Persistence space is displayed when I click on the File System folder. For example, after I have just installed it now, there is 3.5 GB of free space. Where can I access the remaining 26 GB or so drive space which is in the same drive? How do I access it Sir?? It would be helpful if any one could explain and help me with this. Most importantly, it would be a big relief if the persistence can be somehow expanded by a work-around so that I can continue using my SuperOS 10.04 (now heavily customized) OS, which unfortunately has just over 576 MB of space left now, after I removed OpenOffice.org and installed the Libre Office earlier today. This is what remains from the maximum allowable 3950 MB of space for persistence at set-up. Thanks in advance!

  • How to remove space between chart area and plot area?

    - by Gopalakrishnan Subramani

  • JSP Document/JSPX: what determines how tabs/space/linebreaks are removed in the output?

    - by NoozNooz42
    I've got a "JSP Document" ("JSP in XML") nicely formatted and when the webpage is generated and sent to the user, some linebreaks are removed. Now the really weird part: apparently the "main" .jsp always gets all its linebreak removed but for any subsequent .jsp included from the main .jsp, linebreaks seems to be randomly removed (some are there, others aren't). For example, if I'm looking at the webpage served from Firefox and ask to "view source", I get to see what is generated. So, what determines when/how linebreaks are kept/removed? This is just an example I made up... Can you force a .jsp to serve this: <body><div id="page"><div id="header"><div class="title">... or this: <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <div class="title">... ? I take it that linebreaks are removed to save on bandwidth, but what if I want to keep them? And what if I want to keep the same XML indentation as in my .jsp file? Is this doable? EDIT Following skaffman's advice, I took a look at the generated .java files and the "main" one doesn't have lots of out.write but not a single one writing tabs nor newlines. Contrary to that file, all the ones that I'm including from that main .jsp have lots of lines like: out.write("\t...\n"); So I guess my question stays exactly the same: what determines how tabs/space/linebreaks are included/removed in the output?

  • CSS style to create an HTML with an image on left and input text boxes on right that fills all space

    - by dafi
    I need to create an HTML page (a JqueryUI dialog but this isn't the problem) containing an image on left (size is fixed to 75x75) and on right some input text boxes, input boxes must resize to all remaining space. You can see an example at http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5412/19483174.jpg The problem is that when I resize the dialog controls move under image as shown at http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4817/44749696.jpg How can I resolve this problem in all browser and if possible using only CSS? Below I show my HTML code and the CSS I'm using HTML code <div id="dialog-form" title="Modify Post"> <form action=""> <fieldset> <img id="dialog-modify-thumb" src="http://dummyimage.com/75x75/000/fff" alt="" width="75" height="75"/> <div id="dialog-modify-controls"> <label for="dialog-modify-caption">Caption</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-caption" id="dialog-modify-caption"/> <br/> <label for="dialog-modify-tags">Tags</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-tags" id="dialog-modify-tags"/> <br/> <label for="dialog-modify-publish-date">Publish Date</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-publish-date" id="dialog-modify-publish-date"/> </div> </fieldset> </form> </div> The CSS #dialog-modify-thumb { margin-right: 3px; border: 1px solid; display: block; float:left; } #dialog-form input[type='text'] { width: 100%; } #dialog-modify-controls { float: right; width:100%; }

  • GridView: How can I get rid of extra space from my GirdView object?

    - by Lajos Arpad
    Hello, I'm writing an application for Android phones for Human vs. Human chess play over the internet. I was looking at some tutorials, to learn how to develop Android applications and found a very nice example of making galleries (it was a GridView usage example for making a gallery about dogs) and the idea came to draw the chess table using a GridView, because the example project also handled the point & click event and I intended to use the same event in the same way, but for a different purpose. The game works well (currently it's a hotseat version), however, I'm really frustrated by the fact that whenever I rotate the screen of the phone, my GridView gets hysterical and puts some empty space in my chess table between the columns. I realized that the cause of this is that the GridView's width is the same as its parent's and the GridView tries to fill its parent in with, but there should (and probably is) be a simple solution to get rid of this problem. However, after a full day of researching, I haven't found any clue to help me to make a perfect drawing about my chess table without a negative side effect in functionality. The chess table looks fine if the phone is in Portrait mode, but in Landscape mode it's far from nice. This is how I can decide whether we are in Portrait or Landscape mode: ((((MainActivity)mContext).getWindow().getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getWidth()) < ((MainActivity)mContext).getWindow().getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getHeight()) In the main.xml file the GridView is defined in the following way: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <GridView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/gridview" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:numColumns="8" android:verticalSpacing="0dp" android:horizontalSpacing="0dp" android:stretchMode="columnWidth" android:gravity="center" > </GridView> ... </LinearLayout> I appreciate any help with the problem and thank you for reading this.

  • From where starts the process' memory space and where does it end?

    - by nhaa123
    Hi, I'm trying to dump memory from my application where the variables lye. Here's the function: void MyDump(const void *m, unsigned int n) { const unsigned char *p = reinterpret_cast<const unsigned char *(m); char buffer[16]; unsigned int mod = 0; for (unsigned int i = 0; i < n; ++i, ++mod) { if (mod % 16 == 0) { mod = 0; std::cout << " | "; for (unsigned short j = 0; j < 16; ++j) { switch (buffer[j]) { case 0xa: case 0xb: case 0xd: case 0xe: case 0xf: std::cout << " "; break; default: std::cout << buffer[j]; } } std::cout << "\n0x" << std::setfill('0') << std::setw(8) << std::hex << (long)i << " | "; } buffer[i % 16] = p[i]; std::cout << std::setw(2) << std::hex << static_cast<unsigned int(p[i]) << " "; if (i % 4 == 0 && i != 1) std::cout << " "; } } Now, how can I know from which address starts my process memory space, where all the variables are stored? And how do I now, how long the area is? For instance: MyDump(0x0000 /* <-- Starts from here? */, 0x1000 /* <-- This much? */); Best regards, nhaa123

  • (outofmemoryerror: java heap space) when iterating through oracle records...

    - by rockit
    hello fellow java developers. I'm having a bit of an issue here. I have code that gets a resultset from an oracle database, prints each row to a file, then gets the next row - and continues till the end of the resultset. Only this isn't what happens. What happens is that it gets the resultset, starts iterating through the rows, printing to file as it goes, until it runs out of memory - claiming it needs more space on the java heap. The app is currently running with 2g of memory on the heap and the code breaks at about the 150000th row. I'm using jodbc6.jar and java 6 Here is an idea of what my code is doing: Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url,"name","pwd"); conn.setAutoCommit(false); Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(); ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery(strSql); String strVar_1 = null; long lCount = 0; while(rset.next()){ lCount++; if (lCount % 100000 == 0){ System.out.println(lCount + " rows completed"); } strVar_1 = rset.getString("StringID"); /// breaks here!!!!!!!!! if (strVar_1 == null){ strVar_1 = ""; } if (!strQuery_1.equals("")){ out.write(strVar_1 + "\n"); } } out.close();
