• Netbeans C++ not finding standard libraries (Macintosh)

  Hello everyone! I am trying to use Netbeans 6.7 (on a Mac) to create C++ applications. I started out with the standard "Hello World," just to test if everything was working correctly. First try std and could not be found. So I tried reinstalling the developer tools on my Mac OS X disk. After that Netbeans updated its c++ compiler info, but still cannot find std or . Odder than this XCode seems to be working with C++ perfectly fine. Any help fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

• Changing content using innerHTML with a non-standard element in Internet Explorer

  I have the non-standard element <testele></testele> In every browser except IE, this bit of JavaScript will successfully change the content of the above element document.getElementsByTagName("testele")[0].innerHTML = 'hi'; However, if I change the <testele> to just a <span> (in the HTML and the JavaScript), it now successfully changes the content of the element in every browser, including IE. Is there any fix? I have searched around and tried a bunch to no avail.

• Standard Workflow when working with JPA

  I am currently trying to wrap my head around working with JPA. I can't help but feel like I am missing something or doing it the wrong way. It just seems forced so far. What I think I know so far is that their are couple of ways to work with JPA and tools to support this. You can do everything in Java using annotations, and let JPA (whatever implementation you decide to use) create your schema and update it when changes are made. You can use a tool to reverse engineer you database and generate the entity classes for you. When the schema is updated you have to regenerate these classes, or manually update them. There seems to be drawbacks to both, and benefits to both (as with all things). My question is in an ideal situation what is the standard workflow with JPA? Most schemas will require updates during the maintenance phase and especially during the development phase, so how is this handled?

  This is my usual way to debug javascript. Include alert(0); to break the flow and find out what is happening. sometimes when i need multiple check points i do alert('the flow is now in function 1'); alert('the flow is now in function 2'); or sometimes just alert('success'); i would like to know if there is any standard way for debugging adopted as i am finding my current method very intrusive. thanks in advance..:)

  As are are different binary representation of the numbers (for example, take big/little endian), is this cross-platform: some_unsigned_type variable = some_number; // set n-th bit, starting from 1, // right-to-left (least significant-to most significant) variable |= ( 1 << ( n - 1 ) ); // clear the same bit: variable &= ~( 1 << ( n - 1 ) ); In other words, does the compiler always take care of the different binary representation of the unsigned numbers, or it's platform-specific? And what if variable is signed integral type (for example, int) and its value is zero positive negative? What does the Standard say about this? P.S. And, yes, I'm interesting in both - C and C++, please don't tell me they are different languages, because I know this :) I can paste real example, if needed, but the post will become too long

• Poll database using jQuery/Ajax

  Hi guys, I am trying to use jQuery (latest version) & ajax to poll a mysql db every x seconds, post.php does a simple search query on the table and limits to 1 row. (eg SELECT id FROM TABLE LIMIT 1) I've got some other jQuery UI (using v1.8) code that displays some modal/dialog boxes on the screen, simply put if post.php returns something from the db I need to initialise the dialog to pop up onto the screen. I've done all the popup stuff I am just having issues joining all these bits together - i've added some pseudo code of how i expect this to work. • jQuery UI Slider Problem

  I have been using jQuery sliders for about a week now without issues in my project, but I just hit an issue. I am adding 3 sliders to my page All 3 are added exact same way (like this): $('#slider_id').slider({value:100,'slide':function(e, ui){// some code}}); 2 work properly One does not work (it gives me a fiebug error 'f is undefined') when I drag the slider handle The only glaring difference I can see is that the one giving the error is inside of a jQuery UI dialog(). Interestingly, when I place it outside of the dialog, it works! So, wondering if there are known issues with sliders inside dialogs, and/or if there are any workarounds. Thanks

  Hi all, I'm writing an Android application and I would like to place a dialog or view over the home screen so that a user can enter text without jumping into my full application. I can't seem to get this to work. If I present a dialog (even in a transparent activity), my application launches. If you don't know what I'm talking about, take a look at the Facebook widget.   This is my scenario I have an view(page) with list of items, a user could select single or multiple items from this page and click on a "Add to Group" button. Then a modal dialog(JQuery dialog) will be shown, from that he could select group, then press the add button. Which causes the items selected in the parent page is added to that particular group. So, which is the best way to pass the selected items to the modal pop-up? Though the query string ? - what happens if the no:of items selected is large, will the url support that much characters Keep the list in the parent page in a javascript variable and return the selected group from the modal pop-up? • Call Contact list on non-standard Android phones

  I am creating a widget that you can assign a contact to onClick. I used the method that is described here. This works great on standard Android phones such as the Motorola Droid, HTC Nexus One and HTC G1. The problem is for users who are using devices such as the HTC Incredible or HTC Droid Eris (Both running Sense UI) and I imagine on other phones who's OS deviates from the vanilla flavor of Android. Using my current method I thought that the device's OS would hook into whatever that manufacture chose to use for their Contact system however users are being sent to a random list of numbers, not their Contact list. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get those Contacts or is this just another example of the Android fragmentation issue? Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

  Hello everyone :) I've heard in several places that it's bad to have code that is too wide onscreen. For example: for (std::vector<EnumServiceInformation>::const_iterator currentService = services.begin(); currentService != services.end(); currentService++) However, I've heard many arguments for 80 character wide limits. I'm assuming this 80 character limit comes from the traditional command prompt, which is typically 80 characters wide. However -- most of us are working on something much better than a typical command prompt, and I feel that using an 80 character limit encourages use of variable names that are far too short and do not describe what the variable is used for. What is a reasonable limit for a new project with no existing coding width standard?

  Currently, SHFileOperation has some confirm file replacement dialog boxes that ask the user if they would like to replace a file or not. I find these useful, but I would like to be able to modify the scenario in which they occur. Instead, I would like to compare the file contents first with a bool compareFile() function I wrote. Then, if the files are identical the file replacement dialog box will not come up. Assuming, I already have a working compareFile() function, is there a way for me to do this?   I'm trying to get a custom dialog with a transparent background doing this way: this.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(R.drawable.transparent); (where "R.drawable.transparent" is a reference to the color "#00000000") The weird issue on this is that I can't align my dialog window. It's always aligned to the left, even if I implicit set the Gravity of the window using: this.getWindow().setGravity(Gravity.CENTER); And if I just comment the line which set the transparent background, the alignment works fine.   The spate of questions regarding BOOST_FOREACH prompts me to ask users of the Boost library what (if anything) they are doing to prepare their code for portability to the proposed new C++ standard (aka C++0x). For example, do you write code like this if you use shared_ptr: #ifdef CPPOX #include <memory> #else #include "boost/shared_ptr.hpp" #endif There is also the namespace issue - in the future, shared_ptr will be part of the std, namespace - how do you deal with that? I'm interested in these questions because I've decided to bite the bullet and start learning boost seriously, and I'd like to use best practices in my code. Not exactly a flood of answers - does this mean it's a non-issue? Anyway, thanks to those that replied; I'm accepting jalfs answer because I like being advised to do nothing!

  I've created a custom UIViewController that mimics the UISplitViewController. It manages two child view controllers that get displayed in the left & right body area while in landscape and hides the left to show in a popover when in portrait. It works fine, using the didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation: and willRotateToInterfaceOrientation: messages to reset the location and sizing of the child views. All the views and child controllers are loaded from a nib. This custom view controller is shown inside a UINavigationController. The trouble arises after one of the child view controllers uses presentModalViewController. If the device was rotated after the views were initialized (but before the modal controller is shown), after the modal dialog is dismissed, the left and/or body views will be re-rendered in a different rotation than they were before the modal dialog was changed. I'm wondering if folks have had a similar problem, and what the solution is. I'm sure sample code would be helpful, but it'll take a bunch of work to distill it into a runnable sample.

  I'm currently using ShellExecute "open" to open a URL in the user's browser, but running into a bit of trouble in Win7 and Vista because the program runs elevated as a service. When ShellExecute opens the browser, it seems to read the "Local Admin" profile instead of the user's. So for example, if the user at the keyboard has Firefox as his default browser, it may open IE (which is the admin's default). I know that the "runas" verb can be used to elevate, but how do you do it the other way around? Is there a way to open a URL in the default browser on a standard user's desktop from a service?

• Using Google Apps Standard - Emails being marked as spam

  Hey Guys, I signed up with Google apps standard edition for one of my domain names say example.com. I setup the emails like [email protected] - and using the Google Email client and loggin as user contact - if I send emails to users - they arrive in their inbox. But when I send it through my php script running on my hosting account where I have registered the domain example.com - using the same email address [email protected] - it ends up in the Spam folder - I've noticed this in both yahoo and gmail accounts Any tips on how to prevent this from happening.   hey guys, i've a problem with progress dialog on opening an activity (called activity 2 in example). The activity 2 has a lot of code to execute in this OnCreate event. final ProgressDialog myProgressDialog = ProgressDialog.show(MyApp.this,getString(R.string.lstAppWait), getString(R.string.lstAppLoading), true); new Thread() { public void run() { runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { showApps(); } }); myProgressDialog.dismiss(); } }.start(); The showApps function launch activity 2. if i execute this code on my button click event on activity 1, i see the progress, but she doesn't move and afeter i have a black screen during 2 or 3 seconds the time for android to show the activity. If i execute this code in the OnCreate of Activity2 and if i replace the showApps by the code on OnCreate, Activity1 freeze 2 seconds, i don't see the progress dialog, and freeze again 2 seconds on activity 2 before seeing the result. An idea ?

  My program does some network activity in a background thread. Before starting, it pops up a progress dialog. The dialog is dismissed on the handler. This all works fine, except when screen orientation changes while the dialog is up (and the background thread is going). At this point the app either crashes, or deadlocks, or gets into a weird stage where the app does not work at all until all the threads have been killed. How can I handle the screen orientation change gracefully?
