  • Cisco ASA 5505 allowing inbound ICMPv6

    - by Astron
I am trying to allow inbound unsolicited ICMPv6 requests from an external link-local address to my outside (external) interfaces link-local address. I can ping (echo-request) the external address and receive a pong (echo-reply) but ICMPv6 messages initiated on the far side are dropped. I am running 9.0(1) in order to use some of the newer features. Does the Cisco ASA not allow unsolicited inbound requests from a link-local address? Should it matter if all ICMPv6 is allowed? • SQLAuthority News – MSDN Flash Mentions – TechNet Flash Mention – Top Community Contributors (Annual

    - by pinaldave
I was going over my email to reach the famous Inbox(0), I found TechNet Flash and MSDN Flash email. I had kept them because those email editions had mentioned me in the same. I quickly took the screenshot for the same. I am posting them here to refer them back again. It is always good idea to store important information for revisiting memory lane. As a recent update, Microsoft has awarded me Top Community Contributors (Annual) Winners. I want to express that I would have not done without your valuable contribution. I want to dedicate the award to all of you, as without your presence I would have not given this prestigious award. I could have not done this with myself only. I had complete support of Jacob Sebastian (SQL Server MVP) for all of the community related activity. Here are few images. • Ubuntu CPU Fan at 2200 RPM and CPU top at 90°C

    - by T-Erra
I have a problem with my CPU heat. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 (64bit) and I have issues with the cooling. I know it might be a hardware issue, but I've checked, the fan is running and in my GUI I use the command "sensors" which shows me a RPM of 2200 and a CPU temperature of 60°C while I'm not running any software. This seems to be really mysterious. However, if I start my IDE (Eclipse), Firefox and Chromium at the same time, the CPU temp goes up to 75-90° Celsius. I doubt that this is common for a system with 16 GB RAM, an i7 Processor and an Intel water cooling system and I also never had some issues like this before when I was running Ubuntu 12.04 or 13.04. Fan Speed At 60°C it's at 1300 RPM, and after start up Eclipse and Firefox it's at approximately 2200 RPM and between 75°C - 90°C depending on how many windows and IDE's I've opened. If I use the "top" command, there are just few processes like Xorg or Compiz which are taking up to 10% CPU usage at maximum, during the time I'm not running any software. I have tried to upgrade the Linux kernel, where I failed. After upgrading, I wasn't able to boot anymore so I tried to remove the new kernel from the boot directory and updated my grub file to an old entry, which works fine now, but still with the temperature issue. My NVIDIA drivers is also up to date, which dropped some issues I had before with the CPU load. So it can't be a problem with the graphic card. How can I find out, where the problem is, or why my CPU gets that high temperatures, which I only should get while playing games with high end graphics and so on? Did anyone have some similar issues before?

  • Ubuntu 14.04: After login, top- and sidepanel don't load and system settings don't open

    - by Löwe Simon
I have Ubuntu 14.04 on a Medion Erazer with the Nvidia GTX570M card. At first, while I had not installed the last nvidia driver, each time I would try to suspend my pc it would freeze frame on the login. Once I managed to install the nvidia drivers, everything seemed to work up until I noticed that suddenly the system settings would not open anymore. I then rebooted my pc, but when I logged in I just end up with my cursor but no top panel or side pannel. Thankfully, I had installed the gnome desktops which works, except for the fact the system settings do not open also in the gnome desktop. I have tried following: Problems after upgrading to 14.04 (only background and pointer after login) except for reinstalling nvidia, since then I would be back at square one with suspend not working. When I try to launch system settings through the terminal, I get: simon@simon-X681X:~$ unity-control-center libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast (unity-control-center:2806): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'unity-control-center' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length erro'. (Details: serial 229 error_code 16 request_code 155 (GLX) minor_code 1) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped) I know the 2 problems seem unrelated, but since they occured together, I am wondering if that is really the case. Your help is much appreciated, Simon

  • Top Down RPG Movement w/ Correction?

    - by Corey Ogburn
I would hope that we have all played Zelda: A Link to the Past, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I want to emulate that kind of 2D, top-down character movement with a touch of correction. It has been done in other games, but I feel this reference would be the easiest to relate to. More specifically the kind of movement and correction I'm talking about is: Floating movement not restricted to tile based movement like Pokemon and other games where one tap of the movement pad moves you one square in that cardinal direction. This floating movement should be able to achieve diagonal motion. If you're walking West and you come to a wall that is diagonal in a North East/South West fashion, you are corrected into a South West movement even if you continue holding left (West) on the controller. This should work for both diagonals correcting in both directions. If you're a few pixels off from walking squarely into a door or hallway, you are corrected into walking through the hall or down the hallway, i.e. bumping into the corner causes you to be pushed into the hall/door. I've hunted for efficient ways to achieve this and have had no luck. To be clear I'm talking about the human character's movement, not an NPC's movement. Are their resources available on this kind of movement? Equations or algorithms explained on a wiki or something? I'm using the XNA Framework, is there anything in it to help with this?

  • AMR's 2010 Supply Chain Top 25 Report: Early Predictions

    - by [email protected]
On April 6th, AMR's Debra Hoffman and Kevin O'Marah presented their annual 'Top 25 Supply Chain' predictions.  For supply chain professionals, it was a 'must-hear' event especially with the new focus on both operational excellence as well as innovation excellence.  Most people think of R&D as the primary driver for innovation, but in today's 'new-normal' firms need to constantly review, evaluate and update their workflow procedures and business processes to maintian a sharp-blade on the leading edge.  Having the right tools in place to be able to monitor supply chain effectiveness becomes paramount to firms as they compete in the global marketplace. Organizations need  user-friendly and role based dashboards with early alerts to contextualize activities and post the best-options for managers to make better and more informed decisions. 2009 Winners were 1.Apple 2.Dell 3.P&G 4.IBM 5.Cisco 6.Nokia 7. Walmart 8.Samsung 9.PepsiCo 10.Toyota 11.Schulmberger 12. J&J 13.Coke 14. • Top 10 OTN Tech Articles for 2012

    - by Bob Rhubart
It takes a special kind of IT pro to risk additional carpal tunnel damage to pound out a technical article after spending the day wrestling with a keyboard in dealing with other duties. That kind of dedication is noteworthy, even more so if people actually take the time to read the resulting article. So if you know any of the authors listed below, skip the handshake and give them a congratulatory slap on the back for all that time spent torturing their tendons. Their hard work has earned a place on this list of  the Top 10 most popular OTN articles published in 2012.  Getting Started with Java SE Embedded on the Raspberry Pi by Bill Courington and Gary Collins How Dell Migrated from SUSE Linux to Oracle Linux by Jon Senger, Aik Zu Shyong, and Suzanne Zorn Exploring Oracle SQL Developer by Przemyslaw Piotrowski Getting Started with Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 2 by Lenz Grimmer How to Get Started (FAST!) with JavaFX 2 and Scene Builder by Mark Heckler How to Use Oracle VM VirtualBox Templates by Yuli Vasiliev How to Update Oracle Solaris 11 Systems From Oracle Support Repositories by Glynn Foster Tips for Hardening an Oracle Linux Server by Lenz Grimmer and James Morris How To Configure Browser-based SSO with Kerberos/SPNEGO and Oracle WebLogic Server by Abhijit Patil How to Create a Local Yum Repository for Oracle Linux by Jared Greenwald Of course, OTN has a great many articles covering a broad range of topics of interest to Java developers, DBAs, sysadmins, solution architects, and everybody else who works keeping the IT world running. • Dude, where is my list instance?

    - by MOSSLover
I saw an MSDN Forum post today, so I looked for a ListInstance Hidden property in SharePoint 2007 features.  There is none, but interestingly enough there is one in 2010.  I wondered what would happen if you did this: <Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">   <ListInstance            FeatureId="00bfea71-de22-43b2-a848-c05709900100"            Title="Hidden List Test"            Description="Testing a hidden list."            TemplateType="100"            Hidden="TRUE"            OnQuickLaunch="FALSE"            Url="Lists/TestHidden" /> </Elements> It hides the entire list from SharePoint Designer and the browser, however you can hit the list by typing in the url in internet explorer.  Pretty cool stuff.  Enjoy guys. • Making an AI walk on a NavigationMesh (2D/Top-Down game)

    - by Lennard Fonteijn
For some time I have been working on a framework which should make it possible to generate 2D levels based on a set of rules specified by level designers. You can read more about it here as I won't go into details: http://www.jorisdormans.nl/article.php?ref=engineering_emergence Anyway, I'm now at the point of putting the framework to use and have trouble coming up with a solution for AI. I decided to implement a NavigationMesh in the generated levels as I already have that information to start with. Consider the following image (borrowed from http://www.david-gouveia.com/pathfinding-on-a-2d-polygonal-map/): When I run A* on the NavigationMesh, the red path would be suggested when I want to go from point A to B (either direction). However, I don't want my AI to walk that path directly and clipping corners, I'd rather want them to follow the more logical black path. How would I go about going from the Red path to the Black path, are there any algorithms for this. Which steps do I take? Is A* the proper solution for this at all? For some additional information: The proof-of-concept game is a 2D top-down game written in C#, but examples/references in any language are welcome!

  • C# XNA: Effecient mesh building algorithm for voxel based terrain ("top" outside layer only, non-destructible)

    - by Tim Hatch
To put this bluntly, for non-destructible/non-constructible voxel style terrain, are generated meshes handled much better than instancing? Is there another method to achieve millions of visible quad faces per scene with ease? If generated meshes per chunk is the way to go, what kind of algorithm might I want to use based on only EVER needing the outer layer rendered? I'm using 3D Perlin Noise for terrain generation (for overhangs/caves/etc). The layout is fantastic, but even for around 20k visible faces, it's quite slow using instancing (whether it's one big draw call or multiple smaller chunks). I've simplified it to the point of removing non-visible cubes and only having the top faces of my cube-like terrain be rendered, but with 20k quad instances, it's still pretty sluggish (30fps on my machine). My goal is for the world to be made using quite small cubes. Where multiple games (IE: Minecraft) have the player 1x1 cube in width/length and 2 high, I'm shooting for 6x6 width/length and 9 high. With a lot of advantages as far as gameplay goes, it also means I could quite easily have a single scene with millions of truly visible quads. So, I have been trying to look into changing my method from instancing to mesh generation on a chunk by chunk basis. Do video cards handle this type of processing better than separate quads/cubes through instancing? What kind of existing algorithms should I be looking into? I've seen references to marching cubes a few times now, but I haven't spent much time investigating it since I don't know if it's the better route for my situation or not. I'm also starting to doubt my need of using 3D Perlin noise for terrain generation since I won't want the kind of depth it would seem best at. I just like the idea of overhangs and occasional cave-like structures, but could find no better 'surface only' algorithms to cover that. If anyone has any better suggestions there, feel free to throw them at me too. Thanks, Mythics

  • How to clear the resent server name list in SQL Server Management Studio

    - by Pavan Kumar Pabothu
If you are using SQL Server management Studio much the we can observer that the list of server names in the log in of it. As you can imagin a period of time after 6 month or 1 year you will see a long list of server names in the login dialog. How to clear this list...? I doesn't provide a mechanism to clean nor clear the list, so you'll have to do a little browsing through your file system. For SQl Server 2005 Management Studio, we should delete the below file C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat. For SQl Server 2008 Management Studio, we should delete the below file C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\SQLStudio.bin. After deletion we can re-login the Management studio and can see the empty list.

  • List view pages in google index

    - by plantify
We have a large database of items which are viewable as individual items (they are plants) (url example http://www.plantify.co.uk/Abelia-chinensis/plant-5087) or in a list view (url example http://www.plantify.co.uk/page-1/plant). There is a link on the individual page to the list view. We want to index in google for the term Abelia chinensis. My question revolves around the list view and its impact on SEO. Should we prevent google from indexing the list view? Should we put a no follow on the link to the list view to prevent us from losing link 'juice' to a page that is really on for navigation/
