    Applications which run on mobile devices have special user interface requirements. I think Apple did a great job introducing innovative controls on the iPhone/iPod touch platform. Now, I have to design an application for the Windows Mobile platform using the .NET Compact Framework (Visual Studio 2008). I wonder if there are some commercial or open source UI control sets available which are similar to the iPhone / iPod touch UI elements: Scrolling panels based on gestures Instead of a dropdownlist: a new panel with a large list of items Sliding panels etc. I couldn't find any useful products/code. Maybe there is somebody out there with more experience who could help.

How do I go about doing this ? BTW, this is for a scenario where a person will drag an item from a panel into a shopping cart and I need to capture the Id of the dropped item and trigger a postback after the drop to update the quantity of that item in the cart.

  • How to block the UI during asynchronous operations in WPF

    We have a WPF app (actually a VSTO WPF app). On certain controls there are multiple elements which, when clicked, load data from a web service and update the UI. Right now, we carry out these web requests synchronously, blocking the UI thread until the response comes back. This prevents the user clicking around the app while the data is loading, potentially putting it into an invalid state to handle the data when it is returned. Of course the app becomes unresponsive if the request takes a long time. Ideally, we'd like to have the cancel button active during this time, but nothing else. Is there a clever way of doing this, or will we have to switch the requests to execute asynchronously using backgroundworker and write something that disables all the controls apart from the cancel button while a request is in progress?

  • Distinguish UI change to variable from code-behind change

    Like the title says I am trying to architecture into my application a way to distinguish the source of a variable change, either from UI or code-behind. My problem is that I need to trigger some action after a property changed its value, but I only need to do this when the change comes from the UI because otherwise I don-t want to perform that action. I am having some trouble because, for example when a checkbox(two way binding), changes state, my binded property gets updated and then I use the checked and uncheked events to trigger that action.The problem is that when I change the property in codebehind it also triggers those events and I do not want that. Right now, i am using a flag that enables, or not, the actions at the event handlers but I do not feel that this is a good idea. Any sugestions or ideas? I am considering using only one-way binding and control everything my self, using commands.

    I'm not sure if this is doable, but I would like to be able to set a jQuery UI event as a function (directly), as opposed to continuing to wrap in additional function(event, ui) { ... } wrappers. Hopefully you can see what I'm going for from the example below. Here is what I would like: $("#auto").autocomplete({ source: "somepage.php", select: dropdownSelect, minLength: 0 }); Now I would think that the above would work, since I'm simply trying to say "continue firing this event, just over to that function".     i am using this jquery ui combobox autocomplete control out of the box off the jquery ui website: my issue is that i have multiple comboboxes on a page and i want them to have different widths for each one. i can change the width for ALL of them by adding this css: .ui-autocomplete-input { width:300px; } but i can't figure out a way to change the width on just one of them

I have to build a swing ui according to the special schema ,then user can fill some values.After user completed,I will collect the information,validate the value and then build a xml file. For building xml file I can use the xmlbeans,however how to parse the schema and build a swing ui? Since the schema is rather complex. A schema can be found here: example schema I have to parser this schema,for the LiteralInputType ,a JTextArea should be built. However there are other types "complexType" and etc.. These types may not occur at the sametime. Some times only the LiteralInputType is needed,somethimes the ComplexType is needed,also maybe all of them are needed. So, how to implement it? Anyone can help me?

If the element is selected, then the input's value should be the name attribute of that particular LI, whereas if the element is not selected, the value should be updated as empty.     I'm using a jQuery slider as a price range selector in a form. I'd like to have the form submit automatically when one of the values has been changed. I dread having to deal with HTML, JavaScript etc. to build a high quality browser based user interface. I've got the full suite of Telerik controls. Is it possible to build a polished, somewhat feature rich browser UI while being sheltered from the archaic environment of HTML and JavaScript? I'd love to be able to simply drag-drop components, much like building a Win UI and have the exact HTML, JavaScript code created for me. Thanks!

    I was contemplating writing a UI toolkit where setting the position and size of an element/widget was intuitive and powerful. Here are some examples of how it would be used (not currently implemented): ui("Panel").size(". 40").pos("0 0").attach(element); ui("Textarea").size(". %-10").pos("0 40").attach(element); ui("Panel").size(". 10").pos("0 bottom+5"); Where . means auto, % means 100% and the possibility to add pixels to percentages. Does anything like said exist (even as a jQuery plugin or something)? Somethings just aren't possible with pure CSS.

  • Iphone UI Size / Layout Resource?

    Is anyone aware of a website or download to reference for the size of UI elements or standard iphone interface stuff? What I mean is something that gives the height of elements like the status bar, tab bar, navigation bar, default tableviewcell height (and such things as width of accessory view, indentation, etc), default icon sizes, default font sizes for UI elements (if they need to be mimicked, for instance), etc etc etc. It's amazing how many times I have to go back to find a reference or estimate the size and position of a standard element. It seems like it would be an invaluable resource that could fit on a printed page or two.
