• PHP Convert C# Hex Blob Hexadecimal String back to Byte Array prior to decryption

  I have a piece of data that I am receiving in hexadecimal string format, example: "65E0C8DEB69EA114567954". It was made this way in C# by converting a byte array to a hexadecimal string. However, I am using PHP to read this string and need to temporarily convert this back to the byte array. If it matters, I will be decrypting this byte array, then reconverting it to unencrypted hexadecimal and or plaintext, but I will figure that out later. So the question is, how do I convert a string like the above back to an encoded byte array/ blob in PHP? Thanks!

• Red5 RTMP Streaming

  I'm very new to RTMP streaming and am seeking help. Just enough to get me started. I have been Googling for about 5-7 hours now and still cannot determine my answer! The documentation of Red5 is limited and cannot find any support at all! Even similar questions to mine are unanswered on stackoverflow :( My questions are: Why can't I simply place an .mp3 inside red5's server root and play it? To serve a simple MP3 file over RTMP. Do I need to write a Java application? If so, any pointers? To make matters worse, I have little to none Java experience. Please help ST.

• Initialization of std::vector<unsigned int> with a list of consecutive unsigned integers

  I want to use a special method to initialize a std::vector<unsigned int> which is described in a C++ book I use as a reference (the German book 'Der C++ Programmer' by Ulrich Breymann, in case that matters). In that book is a section on sequence types of the STL, referring in particular to list, vector and deque. In this section he writes that there are two special constructors of such sequence types, namely, if Xrefers to such a type, X(n, t) // creates a sequence with n copies of t X(i, j) // creates a sequence from the elements of the interval [i, j) I want to use the second one for an interval of unsigned int, that is std::vector<unsigned int> l(1U, 10U); to get a list initialized with {1,2,...,9}. What I get, however, is a vector with one unsigned int with value 10 :-| Does the second variant exist, and if yes, how do I force that it is called?

• Is a signal sent with kill to a parent thread guaranteed to be processed before the next statement?

  Okay, so if I'm running in a child thread on linux (using pthreads if that matters), and I run the following command kill(getpid(), someSignal); it will send the given signal to the parent of the current thread. My question: Is it guaranteed that the parent will then immediately get the CPU and process the signal (killing the app if it's a SIGKILL or doing whatever else if it's some other signal) before the statement following kill() is run? Or is it possible - even probable - that whatever command follows kill() will run before the signal is processed by the parent thread?

• Is it possible to have a global exception hook?

  Hi, my code is fairly well covered with exception handling (try..except). Some exceptions are not expected to happen and some exceptions happen fairly often, which is expected and ok. Now I want to add some automated tests for this code. It would be good to know how many exceptions happened during execution, so I can later see if the expected number was raised or anything unexpected happened. I don't want to clutter every exception handling block with debug code, so my question is: Is there a way to install some kind of global exception handler which sits right before all other exception handling blocks? I am searching for a central place to log these exceptions. Thanks for any suggestions! (And if this matters: it is Delphi 2009)

• Best way to remove an object from an array in Processing

  I really wish Processing had push and pop methods for working with Arrays, but since it does not I'm left trying to figure out the best way to remove an object at a specific position in an array. I'm sure this is as basic as it gets for many people, but I could use some help with it, and I haven't been able to figure much out by browsing the Processing reference. I don't think it matters, but for your reference here is the code I used to add the objects initially: Flower[] flowers = new Flower[0]; for (int i=0; i < 20; i++) { Flower fl = new Flower(); flowers = (Flower[]) expand(flowers, flowers.length + 1); flowers[flowers.length - 1] = fl; } For the sake of this question, let's assume I want to remove an object from position 15. • Enable GPS and network location programmatically on rooted phone?

  I'd like to write a simple widget that toggles GPS and network location on and off. I've read that it's not possible to do that normally, but presumably on a rooted phone it must be doable. Does anyone know what the code would be? (I only need the code to toggle the location providers, I know how to make the widget.) It doesn't matter that this isn't a 'good' solution, I don't plan to distribute the widget. If it matters, this would be on an HTC Hero, still running v1.5.

  Hi guys, Is there a way to have treat google serach results as an rss feed? For example say I worked for stackoverflow and wanted to montior how if the results from the following search url: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=stackoverflow changes from day today. It would be cool if I could append &output=rss to the url and get back a feed like with google news. But that does not seem to be supported. Anyone have ideas? • Javascript/iframe/embed/object question

  OK, so here is my issue. I'm building a system which will allow people to embed lists of links on their pages. When the link is clicked, i'd like to use something like Lightview or Lightwindow to open it up over the whole window, not just in the iframe. I don't have access to the page that the user will be embedding this object into. Everything I've tried so far tells me that I can't open anything over the parent window, since I don't have access to it from the iframe or object, javacript security issue. However, I've seen sites that do that kind of overlay. so it must be possible. If anyone can point me to any resources that could help, that would be great. if it matters, i'm using Ruby on Rails... • How do I write a constant-space length function in Haskell?

  The canonical implementation of length :: [a] -> Int is: length [] = 0 length (x:xs) = 1 + length xs which is very beautiful but suffers from stack overflow as it uses linear space. The tail-recursive version: length xs = length' xs 0 where length' [] n = n length' (x:xs) n = length xs (n + 1) doesn't suffer from this problem, but I don't understand how this can run in constant space in a lazy language. Isn't the runtime accumulating numerous (n + 1) thunks as it moves through the list? Shouldn't this function Haskell to consume O(n) space and lead to stack overflow? (if it matters, I'm using GHC)

• How do you protect code from leaking outside?

  Besides open-sourcing your project and legislation, are there ways to prevent, or at least minimize the damages of code leaking outside your company/group? We obviously can't block Internet access (to prevent emailing the code) because programmer's need their references. We also can't block peripheral devices (USB, Firewire, etc.) The code matters most when it has some proprietary algorithms and in-house developed knowledge (as opposed to regular routine code to draw GUIs, connect to databases, etc.), but some applications (like accounting software and CRMs) are just that: complex collections of routine code that are simple to develop in principle, but will take years to write from scratch. This is where leaked code will come in handy to competitors. As far as I see it, preventing leakage relies almost entirely on human process. What do you think? What precautions and measures are you taking? And has code leakage affected you before?

• Can SVG render partially if gzipped and chunk-transferred?

  Hi - I have some large, dynamically generated SVGs that are being served over a relatively slow internet connection. I'm trying to optimize them to be viewable as fast as possible. If I set the server to Content-Encoding: gzip and Transfer-Encoding: chunked, will any SVG viewers take advantage of that and render it partially, as it is transferred? If not, are there other ways to get it to render as-it-streams? I could break it up into several SVG pieces but that will be a lot of work, I was hoping for server settings... The most common users use IE7 with the Adobe SVG Viewer plugin. I doubt it matters but I'm serving with C#/ASP.NET and IIS6.

  I'm using Disqus comments on my site. Users can comment on blog posts or on podcasts. So I have a page that lists all the blog-posts and one listing all of my podcasts. I'm using the combo-widget to display the most recent comments on each of these two pages. But I only want recent blog-post comments to show up in the list on the blog index page and likewise for podcasts. At the moment, the combo-widget lists all the comments, regardless of whether or not they were left on a blog post or a podcast... Is Disqus even built to be used in this way? [Site built with rails and I'm using norman's disqus plugin, although I doubt it matters...]

• How to display image that is located on another server on the network (ASP.NET)

  I've got a ASP.NET site that's located on a local server (MY_SERVER). And one of the things it does is pull up tiff files which are located on another server (ANOTHER_SERVER). The location of each of these files is stored in SQL. I pull up each of these images and am supposed to display them. The problem is: the files are not named with a tiff extension (does it matter?) they aren't displaying at all. I am using an Image control to display these images, and I'm not sure if it matters that the extension is not set (does the image control know the difference between an jpg and a tiff without the extension?) I am guessing the images aren't displaying because they are not on the same server MY_SERVER that the images are located (ANOTHER_SERVER). Any ideas on how to fix this?

I have the following kinds of persons in this system: employee manager top mananger I decided to define a User, from where employee, manager and top manager will specialize from. What I don't know is what kind of specialization hierarchy I should choose from. I thought of two ways: or Which might be preferable and why? As a long time coder, every time I try to do a domain-model, I have to fight against the idea of trying to think in how I'm going to code this. From what I've understood, I should not think about those matters in the domain-model, only in object relationships. • Visual Studio bug ~ can anyone duplicate?

  In Visual Studio 2010 Pro (Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel), I noticed tonight that for some reason I kept getting a wider window for quick find, but thought I was losing my mind. So I exited, restarted, etc to verify. Here's my repro steps Open existing project (I don't think it matters which one) Press ctrlf and give it something to search for (?) Press enter Press ctrlf Press enter goto 4 Can you reproduce a slowly expanding quick find window? Do I have some sort of wacky bugged out system? I'ld obviously like to submit a bug report to MS if this is indeed a viable repro.

• Java Math.cos() Method Does Not Return 0 When Expected

  Using Java on a Windows 7 PC (not sure if that matters) and calling Math.cos() on values that should return 0 (like pi/2) instead returns small values, but small values that, unless I'm misunderstanding, are much greater than 1 ulp off from zero. Math.cos(Math.PI/2) = 6.123233995736766E-17 Math.ulp(Math.cos(Math.PI/2)) = 1.232595164407831E-32 Is this in fact within 1 ulp and I'm simply confused? • Efficient way to create/unpack large bitfields in C?

  I have one microcontroller sampling from a lot of ADC's, and sending the measurements over a radio at a very low bitrate, and bandwidth is becoming an issue. Right now, each ADC only give us 10 bits of data, and its being stored in a 16-bit integer. Is there an easy way to pack them in a deterministic way so that the first measurement is at bit 0, second at bit 10, third at bit 20, etc? To make matters worse, the microcontroller is little endian, and I have no control over the endianness of the computer on the other side.

• Mongrel with Ruby 1.9.

  When starting the server, I get this strange error after updating to Ruby 1.9: " [BUG] cross-thread violation on rb_gc() ruby 1.8.6 (2008-08-11) [i386-mswin32] This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. " My mongrel version is 1.1.6, which should be compatible with Ruby 1.9. I also still have the Ruby 1.8.6 installation, so i assume that for some reason mongrel tries to access that and kills ruby? My rails version is 2.3.4, in case it matters.

• is there a multiple payment providers (paypal, ogone, ...) php module for use in a web app?

  We are building an ecommerce app where we want our users to pick out a (any provider we can make compatible with our app) payment provider. Up to today, we only support paypal and we have implemented this rather manually. We are looking for some sort of a module (free or commercial) to easily plugin in more payment providers to let customers accept payments through them. Our customers would use this to accept payments for sales in their web shops. Any ideas on such "modules"? I know of the Zend_Payment module but that's not updated anymore or isn't out yet at all. We run PHP in the Zend Framework if that matters.

• Printing array with delimiters in Perl

  I have an array in Perl I want to print with space delimiters between each element, except every 10th element which should be newline delimited. There aren't any spaces in the elements if that matters. I've written a function to do it with for and a counter, but I wondered if there's a better/shorter/canonical Perl way, perhaps a special join syntax or similar.
