• Saving multiple attachments in phpmyadmin [closed]

  I am sending multiple attachments with an Email message. I am saving the Email message and Email Address in database (i.e., phpmyadmin). Now i want to save the multiple attachments data i.e., Contents of file, Extension, Size and name of file , How can i do it. I am getting the size of file now by the following code in javascript: var size = this.files[0].size; I am a new in php, so any easy tutorials, and help you can specify.. Also i want all the Attachments (maximum 5) to be saved in one cell (i.e., FileContents) in database, same the extensions and sizes collective of all attachments in one cell (i.e., Extensions).   I have a PHP Form with two different fieldsets and about 4 labels within each. The form mailer is one i found on a tutorial but I'm not sure how to set in all the variables. Should all the 'label for' names also be the name of the variable? And is it easy to format with font-size etc.. once its been sent to an email for easy reading? $course_title = $_POST['course_title']; $course_date = $_POST['course_date']; $course_code = $_POST['course_code']; $course_fee = $_POST['course_fee']; Say i have - Personal Details labels with - first_name, address, postcode, dob. • Trying to setup virtual hosts on unix PHP on nginx

  I have tried to install php5-fpm and Nginx on Ubuntu machine, but I got a problem. When I have only one virtual host on a unix port it is all fine but when I try to add another virtual host Nginx goes to default web page "Welcome to Nginx!" but when I run it on a tcp port example port 9000 it work fine with multisites. It is a fresh install of ubuntu 11.10, Nginx 1.2.3 with php5-fpm installed. It also has extra php installs such as php-apc. I can only give the links to the virtual hosts because I am doing it from a mobile phone. In this website I want users to register and also participate in something like a browser game, where every user may receive some questions which they have to answer. For each question they successfully answered, they receive points and the number of collected points will decide on which rank they are. • Ubuntu Desktop or Ubuntu Server?

  Hello everyone. I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu is my first distribution. I have chosen Ubuntu because I want to learn more about Linux. I'm under time constraints and need to setup a server as soon as possible. I have Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server setup via VMWare Fusion on my MacBook Pro. I installed everything I need on the server edition, but it feels way over my head. I have no experience with CLI. Can I just use Ubuntu Desktop to run my Web server for the time being while I learn CLI? I basically need to run Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin, Python and Django. Should I be using MAMP? Thanks.

• Should I use a workflow engine?

  I need to add some new features to a PHP application. It is to follow the steps of a order. A process create some orders, the order goes to confirmation, then if approved is sent to a provider, later the provider confirm that can deliver the order, a request is made to the provider and so on... I need to register when every step is made and send notifications. Also, some steps have a estimate time, and if that time is elapsed I need to send notifications so everybody know about the delay. When a process starts, it have a predefined set of steps, but in a middle the user should be able to create new sub-steps, and delete or skip future steps.. Should I use a workflow engine? Which one do you suggests (free-opensource only)?

• Subdomain Is Redirected and Causing an Error Because www. is Added

  On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on? Just in case, my .htaccess file is as follows: Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php I looked through Firebug and it seems like Firefox doesn't even make an attempt to reach test.example.com before reverting to www.test.example.com. One nuance I didn't realize until now. If I try to access the site using test.example.com/, the www. is added. If however that trailing slash is not there, then I am sent to the subdomain properly.

  How do I get my webpage not to go back when they hit the back button and are logged out and how can I add a web page to be blocked like FACEBOOK doesn't let you get into their site with out having a page or a account with them, and if you try to put something in the url and try to go to something on their site it gives you a web page that says "you have to be logged in first" . Like I don't want someone going to the url of the "index" page before they have signed up as a member they need to make an account first then they can have access to the "index" page. How do I do this. I have a website so far that has a database and the website has 5 pages so far and two of them which is the login and sign up page which are both used with php and mysql and they work fine. How do I restrict access to the main website by first having the users sign up with me for an account.

  I have a class named GuestbookEntry that maps to the properties that are in the database table named "guestbook". Very simple! Originally, I had a static method named getActiveEntries() that retrieved an array of all GuestbookEntry objects. Each row in the guestbook table was an object that was added to that array. Then while learning how to properly design PHP classes, I learned some things: Static methods are not desirable. Separation of Concerns Single Responsibility Principle If the GuestbookEntry class should only be responsible for managing single guestbook entries then where should this getActiveEntries() method most properly go? Update: I am looking for an answer that complies with the SOLID acronym principles and allows for test-ability. That's why I want to stay away from static calls/standard functions. DAO, repository, ...? Please explain as though your explanation will be part of "Where to Locate FOR DUMMIES"... :-)

My only experience with servers and hosting is uploading through FTP and playing around with CPanel/WHM a little. The role's I'm going for are web development PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS type roles, but in recent interviews I've been asked questions about setting up things on the server, that I had no idea what was being said... which wasn't ideal! Without knowing more than I do, it's hard to explain what exactly I'm looking to learn, but it's basically just the server elements I should know as a web developer? If you're a web developer, do you have any dealing with the server apart from uploading files, and if so, what? Are things like Subversion(SVN) and version control systems often set up by the web development team, could that be what they were talking about?

• Alternatives to using cookies?

  Whate are alternatives to using cookies/client-side storage for a PHP/MySQL based site on Apache. Scenario/Requirements: I want to try using some anti-bot code to prevent specific scrapers etc. from accessing the site. I would like to run this code before launching the rest of the site (before DB access etc.). I don't want to constantly run the same code on every page-load after a visitor has passed the initial check. I'd like to avoid the use of Cookies/Client side storage if at all possible. The only solution I can currently think of is to write files to the server based on the visitors IP/UA, or to write a list of them to a single file. Yet this has the limitation of multiple users through a proxy/same connection, etc ... So, any ideas/suggestions? Or am I simply over working the issue?

  In my early days of programming I often used to get memory related fatal errors in the following format: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of <some big number> bytes exhausted (tried to allocate <some small number> bytes) in /path/to/filename.php on line <some line number> I'm a little embarrassed to state that even though I have figured out how to solve them and take steps to avoid them altogether, I'm still not quite sure what exactly does the message translate to in simple words. For example, if I get a message such as: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4000 bytes) in ........ on line 34 As things stand at the moment, I assume it to be stating that the script consumes 67108864 bytes of data, but only 4000 bytes are available during runtime. Am I right in my assumption? If not, what's the correct interpretation?

  I have a site which lets users buy & sell tickets, but it's built on wordpress & buddypress. So it's very heavy and messy. I would like to re-do the whole site on something lighter, cleaner and solid. The main functionality for user would have to be as follows: Register or login via Facebook. Create events and sell tickets to them. See ticket sales statistics Upload photos and associate those with events. Buy event tickets, print pdf ticket. Comment, favourite and like events. What would be your suggestions? PHP framework? CMS? CMF? I must say that I'm a front-end dev so building a system from scratch on my own would take a while. I'd be interested more in a "skeleton" app solution or something similar.

  i have installed apache2, actual php version, mysql server and vsftp on my new ubuntu server. I also installed wordpress and gave the user www-data all rights for /var/www/* and put it to 755. I hooked the Domain to the server with * and @ a-record. Now, everytime when i open a Page, it says 404 file not found on server. i dont know how to fix this. can you help me? Edit: I think its because mod_rewrite. i installed mod_rewrite with: sudo a2enmod rewrite sudo service apache2 restart but it still doesnt work.

• mailing for categories

  There are more than 10 categories in my site, users can register more than one category. My php script prepare contents of each category, according to user preference my script merge those contents for each user. so every user can get what category they want. Problem is I want to send 340+ mails per hour and dreamhost dont allow. What do you suggest? I think to a service like mailchimp but I couldnt find that scenario, do they support category & content etc. Can I use smtp in dreamhost?
