  • Menus, folders, programs are all hidden or invisible in Ubuntu 12.10

    I have had problems with this laptop Aspire 4530 for the last 3 days. I erased the last Ubuntu (several times) and all is the same: Ubuntu starts, but in the screen there is not a menu (in the left side (using Gnome Desktop)) and I can not see any program, application, internet, graphic, games, nothing. I neither can see any folder. This is killing me for hours. Any idea in how can I get those menus back? Thank in advance

    If I am asked to program an algorithm, say binary search, in languages other than Java during an interview, I will have a hard time trying to remember the syntax. Is it okay to tell my interviewer that I can only code this in Java, because I have worked with other languages before but have not used them for a while? If not, what suggestions do you have (i.e. what languages and parts of those languages among these should I pick up the syntax of before my interview)?

Other programers are really busy and dont' have time to hold my hands. I used to use brain map to draw a pictorial representation of the system.     I'm building a mobile web-app. One of the requirements from my client is that the user should be able to install (through App Store) a program that displays the webpage. I'm thinking of either just displaying a UIWebView with the web-page or opening the webpage in the browser. This would be my first experience with App Store, so I'd like to ask: Would I run into any troubles regarding acceptance in App Store for such "just-show-whatever-the-server-gives-me" application?

  • How can i turn a virtualbox disk partion to be my main boot system? (read description)

    I recently had windows xp installed on my pc and chose to try ubuntu but i did a full install with ubuntu. I luckily chose to create a backup windows iso before the install and now want to reinstall windows but i couldnt find a sufficient program to mount the iso to my cd disk. My question is how can i burn the disk using VirtualBox or even how can i transform a virtual box partion to my main OS system?? thx in advance

    After I installed Ubuntu by using Windows installer for Ubuntu Desktop, I found that I can only run executable programs in the "Desktop" folder. In any other folders, when I typed in something like ./a.out, there appears a Permission Denied error. Also, in the "Properties" dialog box of the file I want to execute, the box of "allow executing file as a program" cannot be chosen if the file is not in the Desktop folder. What should I type in the terminal to fix the problem?

    I have a class, say Foo, and every instance of Foo will need and contain the same List object, myList. Since every class instance will share the same List Object, I thought it would be good to make myList static and use a static function to set myList before the constructor is called. I was wondering if this was bad, because this requires the setter to be called before the constructor? If the person doesn't, the program will crash. Alternative way would be passing myList every time.

    How to get the current time in milliseconds? I'm working on a hacking simulation game and when ever someone connects to another computer/NPC, a login screen popups with a button on the side called BruteForce. When BruteForce is clicked, what i want the program to do is, calculate how many seconds cracking the password is going to take based on the player's CPU speed but that's the easy part. The hard part is i want to enter a character in the password's box every X milliseconds based on a TimeToCrack divided by PasswordLength formula. But since i don't know how to find how many milliseconds have elapsed since the second has passed, the program waits until the CurrentTime is higher than the TimeBeforeTheLoopStarted + HowLongItTakesToTypeaCharacter which is always going to be a second. How would you handle my problems?     I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and now that I want to install a program through the terminal with a command starting with sudo, the terminal says Sorry, try again. I just don't get it, this is my user password which I check with through the Software Center. What can be then wrong? (Is it possible that the terminal function differently than the rest of the OS in relation to ASCII keyboard?) Please help.

    Possible Duplicate: Why use other number bases when programming My coworkers and I have been bending our minds to figuring out why anyone would go out of their way to program numbers in a base other than base 10. I suggested that perhaps you could optimize longer equations by putting the variables in the correct base you are working with (for instance, if you have only sets of 5 of something with no remainders you could use base 5), but I'm not sure if that's true. Any thoughts?
