  • Can I correctly debug assemblies loaded with the 'AssemblyResolve' event?

    I'm experimenting with the AppDomain's 'AssemblyResolve' event by hidding the depedencies for an executable file in another folder. The assemblies seem to beloading and executing fine, however debugging seems to be crazy, sometimes it hits my break points, sometimes it doesnt , and sometimes it hits the same code twice(It seems absurd but I'm sure the code is executing only once). I don't understanding how debuggers works but I guess it has something to do with the PDB files. Anyone got an idea of what might be happening and how can I fix it? Edit: Let me add that I'm calling methods on the dynamically loaded assemblies using reflection, sometimes the method I'm stepping over throws an exception that only pops at a later time.

  • Strange difference between optimized/non optimized microsoft c++ code

    I have a c++ program with a method that looks something like this: int myMethod(int* arr1, int* arr2, int* index) { arr1--; arr2--; int val = arr1[*index]; int val2 = arr2[val]; doMoreThings(val); } With optimizations enabled (/O2) the first line where the first pointer is decremented is not executed. I assume the compiler believes that the arr1 array is not used since it thinks it can remove the decrement. Am I violating some convention in the above code? What could cause this behavior? It is a very old piece of f2c-translated code, the pointer decrement is due to the 1-based indexing of the original code.

    We have created a VSTO addin for Outlook Meetings. As part of this we trap on the SendEvent of the message on the FormRegionShowing event: _apptEvents.Send += new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.ItemEvents_SendEventHandler(_apptEvents_Send); The method _apptEvents_Send then tests on a couple of properties and exits where appropriate. private void _apptEvents_Send(ref bool Cancel) { if (!_Qualified) { MessageBox.Show("Meeting has not been qualified", "Not Qualified Meeting", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Information); chkQualified.Focus(); Cancel = true; } } The problem that we're having is that some users' messages get sent twice. Once when the meeting is sent and a second time when the user re-opens outlook. I've looked for memory leaks, thinking that something might not be getting disposed of properly, and have added explicit object disposal on all finally calls to try and make sure resources are managed, but still getting the functionality incosistently across the organization. i.e. I never encountered the problem during development, nor other developers during testing. All users are up to date on framework (3.5 SP1) and Hotfixes for Outlook. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? Any ideas anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot perform an ORDERBY against my EF4 data

    I have a query hitting EF4 using STEs and I'm having an issue with user-defined sorting. In debugging this, I have removed the dynamic sorting and am hard-coding it and I still have the issue. If I swap/uncomment the var results = xxx lines in GetMyBusinesses(), my results are not sorted any differently - they are always sorting it ascendingly.   • Best way to fix an out-of-sync TFS workspace after a back-up/restore

    Wednesday I had to restore from a back-up image I made on Monday. At the time of the snapshot I had about 20 files modified, which I later checked in, and more, on Tuesday. Now that I am back to a snapshot from Monday morning, my workspace has all of these files checked-out or added, etc. even my check-in comments and work-item associations. But I already did that check-in on Tuesday. I'm thinking I will shelve all the pending changes (just in-case), and then just undo all changes, and get latest (specific version). And I should be back to good. Any cautions or suggestions? (TFS 2008, VS2010)

    We're trailing the use of the built in bug tracking, and have written some integration into our helpdesk software that allows for escalation via workitems. One thing I haven't found out how to do, is to merge all changes associated with a work item (say to go from dev branch to main) - I appreciate you can double click on a changeset in the merge dialog to view if it is associated with a workitem, and also that I can select individual changesets, and groups of adjacent changesets; but there doesn't appear to be any way to merge changes by workitem?

    I have an app that has a console menu with 2/3 selections. One process involves uploading a file and performing a lengthy search process on its contents, whilst another process involves SQL queries and is an interactive process with the user. I wish to use threads to allow one process to run and the menu to offer the option for the second process to run. However you cannot run the first process twice. I have created threads and corrected some compilation errors but the threading options are not working correctly. Any help appreciated. main...     I created a UserControl with the buttons Save, Close and Cancel. I want to close the form without saving on the Cancel button, prompt a message to save on the Close button and Save without closing on the Save button. Normally, I would have used this.Close() on the Cancel button, but the UserControl doesn't have such an option. So I guess I have to set a property for that. Scrolling down the "Questions that may already have your answer" section, I came across this question: How to close a ChildWindow from an UserControl button loaded inside it? I used the following C# code: private void btnCancel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ProjectInfo infoScreen = (ProjectInfo)this.Parent; infoScreen.Close(); } This does the job for one screen, but I wonder if I have to apply this code for all the screen I have?     I have created a web app version of my previous crawler app and the initial form has controls to allow the client to make selections and start a search 'job'. These searches 'jobs' will be run my different threads created individually and added to a list to keep track of. Now the idea is to have another web form that will display this list of 'jobs' and their current status and will allow the jobs to be cancelled or removed only from the server side. This second form contains a grid to display these jobs. Now I have no idea if I should create the threads in the initial form code or send all user input to my main class which runs the search and if so how do I pass the the thread list to the second form to have it displayed on the grid. Any ideas really appreciated.   • Circular Reference for Parent Link on Work Item cannot be resolved by Retry

    I receive the following error; OH-TFS-Connector-0051: Operation failed getCollectionMetaData. Server Error : TF201063: Adding a Parent link to work item 1737 would result in a circular relationship. To create this link, evaluate the existing links, and remove one of the other links in the cycle. I have completely flattened out the Work Items in the source project. When retrying the migration the timestamp is modified on the pending errors however the issues are not resolved. These Work Items now have no parents or children in the source project. So I'm wondering if the retry list is no longer valid but there doesn't appear to be a away to have it update? I can run the whole migration again, however it takes 5-7 hours to just do the work items so it would be great if there is a quick fix.
