  • How Gridview co-operates with ObjectDataSource?

    Hi, how Gridview co-operates with ObjectDataSource internally? When you set DataSourceID of GridView, assigned ObjectDataSource take care of such things as paging and sorting, but i don't have full control above databinding itself, on the other side when i set datasource of gridview in code-behind: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { testGridView.DataSource = testObjectDataSource.Select(); testGridView.DataBind(); } } Now i have full control, but i have lost the advantage of comfort sorting and paging. And that co-operation between ObjectDataSource and Gridview became mystery for me. So can anybody explain me in details how ObjectDataSource and Gridview co-operates under the hood? I want to understand it in order to write my own smart code or own gridview that will mimic this co-operation. Many thanks for answers.

  • Webservice returning 403 error

    I'm wondering whether I'm receiving the 403 errors because there are too many attempted connections being made to the webservice. If this is the case how do I get around it? I've tried creating a new instance of InternalWebService each time and disposing of the old one but I get the same problem. I've disabled the firewall and the webservice is located locally at the moment. I beginning to think it may be a problem with the credentials but the control tree is populated via the webservice at some stage. If I browse to the webmethods in my browser I can run them all. I return an instance of the webservice from my login handler loginsession.cs: static LoginSession() { ... g_NavigatorWebService = new InternalWebService(); g_NavigatorWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; ... } public static InternalWebService NavigatorWebService { get { return g_NavigatorWebService; } } I have a tree view control which uses the webservice to populate itself.     A friend of mine has created a movie for my site, it's in .flv format. I've heard of the popular flash player called flowplayer, but I have a bad feeling such a player will not work on the ipad and other devices which do not support flash. Is there a way to play a video in the flash format through a non-flash player so that the content can be viewed on all devices? I'm open to any ideas.     I have got a group of radio buttons that when clicked need to display a corresponding unordered list. I have got as far as showing the correct list according to which radio button is clicked but cannot figure out how to hide the other lists that need to be hidden. So if i click the second benefits radion then the second 'spend' ul will display and the other 'spend' uls will hide.     Is there a way getting all countries, states,cities zipcodes/ in one single database. I have been looking all over. I discovered geonames.org, which has I guess all of the content. But there is no way to fetch that data directly. I am using rails. If there any helpers or Plugins, it'd be great. It would be awesome if there is a complete resource in any parsable format which I can use to get this database in place.   • Firefox Sprite Sheet Image Not Showing Up

    I'm trying to create a chat room with emoticons. When a user types an emoticon such as :) in the chatroom, the CSS takes the proper image off the sprite sheet. But my code only seems to work in Opera and IE (odd combination). It doesn't show in Firefox or Chrome (if you manage to hone in exactly where the image should be, you can find the image blank.gif which is used as the stand-in to place the background-url over). Does anyone know what might cause this in Firefox/Chrome?   • Using oAuth (Twitter, LinkedIn) for login to a web app

    Should I use oAuth, for example LinkedIn or Twitter, as my signin mechanism for my app? It seems that most apps just use oAuth to connect other services to it, but they make you set up your own user/password after you use oAuth (including StackOverflow), and I'm not really sure why this is. Would love some insight here. Thank you.

    I am looking for a .Net CMS that allows me to expose pages/articles that are created in the CMS to other applications without querying the CMS database. Preferably this would be done through an API and by exposing them through a custom secured webservice. I know Sitefinity can do this. Do you know if Umbraco DotNetNuke can do this? If yes, a link to some documentation of the API is appreciated!

  • Django development targeting both the Google App Engine and Py2Exe

    I must hand in a mostly static database-driven website on a topic on my choice by the end of June as both a hosted version live on the internet and a stored version on a cd-rom. "Ease of launching" is one of the bulletpoints for evaluation of the project. (Yeah, I know.) I and my project mate are currently comparing various frameworks and technologies to help us deliver and deploy this as quickly and painlessly as possible. Theoretically, by using Django, I can target the Google App Engine (which I guess would provide us reliable, free-as-in-beer hosting) or the Py2Exe system + SQLLite (which I guess would make starting the website server from disk as hard as doubleclicking on an .exe file). Sounds better than what PHP and MySQL can ever hope to bring me, right? However, we need to target both Py2Exe and the GAE. How much of the differencies between these wildly different configurations are hidden by Django? What will instead require special attention and possibly specialized code on my end?

  • What are some funny error pages websites have?

    This question is along the same lines as What are some funny loading statements to keep my users amused, I want screenshots of all the coolest "error" pages site's throw up when something's broken. I know pandora.com talks about a panda ravaging it's way through the office, twitter's has the little birds floating around or something, sourceforge had one with some funny robots the other day. I'm sure I saw a blog once that had a bunch of them, but it's kinda hard to google "error pages". Community Wiki, of course :)

"Allow more entries to be displayed in the view: When the user clicks more, additional entries should be displayed in addition to the ones which are already displayed. The code should cause the UI to scroll such that the first entry of the "more" set is on top". I am using com.ibm.rcp.browser.service.WebBrowser which is similar to SWT WebBrowser.
