  I planning to write an application in which there will be a service (call it A) listening for particular commands. This service will then relay those commands to other services (call them B and C) which are written, respectively, in .NET and Java (service A chooses which of service B or C to which to relay depending on the contents of the request to service A). I am looking for a framework that will allow for interoperability with both .NET and with Java, for example WCF or JAX-WS, or writing a custom framework (e.g., JSON REST commands over HTTP, similar to http://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/JsonWireProtocol). What questions/aspects should I consider in deciding?

  JSR 310, Date and Time API, has published an Early Draft Review 2.  This review closes 14 October. JSR 353, Java API for JSON Processing, has published an Early Draft Review.  This review closes 7 October. JSR 356, Java API for WebSocket, has published an Early Draft Review. This review closes 27 October. JSR 339,  JAX-RS 2.0: The Java API for RESTful Web Services, has published a Public Review. This review closes 12 November. The EC Nominations are now open until 11 October.  Any JCP Member may nominate themselves for the 2 open seats in the 2012 EC Elections.  Note that both seats will be for a 1 year term only, since all EC Members will stand for Election in 2013.  The merged EC will take effect in November 2012.

• NetworkManager refuses to manage my WLAN interface

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 with Gnome 3.6 on a brand-new Samsung NP900X4C. The installer detected the wireless adapter, took in the SSID and WPA passphrase, wrote these into /etc/network/interfaces and connected perfectly. Once installation was finished I wanted to switch to using NetworkManager to manage the wireless adapter, since this is much more convenient than fiddling with /etc/network/interfaces every time I find a new hotspot. Therefore I edited /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf to set: [ifupdown] managed=true When I rebooted NetworkManager, the problems started: - The NetworkManager tray applet changed from saying device not managed to device not ready - I lost all internet connectivity as wlan0 would not associate to the Access Point - if I set managed=false in NetworkManager.conf and restarted both NetworkManager and networking services from the command-line, the Gnome desktop "semi-crashed" and lost all its Window Decorations, the panel, the launcher and basically became unusable. However if I restart the computer completely after setting managed=false, wlan0 once again works perfectly.

  I am currently working as an SDET(Software devlopment Engineer in Test). I have been doing some programming in C# as my job needs. I want to expand my knowledge and experience by creating some simple tools and applications of my own. Consider this like academic projects that are created by students at the end of their course . The idea is to have a practical knowledge on the subjects that I have a theoritical knowledge about. For Eg - I have read about multithreading and have worked on the examples but I do not have a grip over the concepts. In order to get a good grip over the concepts I want to work over some projects involving multithreading, starting with a simple one. Similarly other concepts like REST/SOAP web services using WCF.
