• missing table in SQLite with specific version of HTC DESIRE HD

  My application has a SQLite database in the asset folder. When the user launches my application, the database is created and the tables too. This works fine with a lot of devices (Nexus One, Htc Magic, SGS, X10… and even Htc Desire HD v2.2). My application works with all versions of Android (tested on my device (1.6, 2.2, 2.2.1 Htc Magic) and on the emulator (v1,5 until v2.3). I have just a problem with HTC DESIRE HD v2.2.1 1.72.405.3. • Can a stateless WCF service benefit from built-in database connection pooling?

  I understand that a typical .NET application that accesses a(n SQL Server) database doesn't have to do anything in particular in order to benefit from the connection pooling. Even if an application repeatedly opens and closes database connections, they do get pooled by the framework (assuming that things such as credentials do not change from call to call). My usage scenario seems to be a bit different. When my service gets instantiated, it opens a database connection once, does some work, closes the connection and returns the result. Then it gets torn down by the WCF, and the next incoming call creates a new instance of the service. In other words, my service gets instantiated per client call, as in [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerCall)]. The service accesses an SQL Server 2008 database. I'm using .NET framework 3.5 SP1. Does the connection pooling still work in this scenario, or I need to roll my own connection pool in form of a singleton or by some other means (IInstanceContextProvider?). I would rather avoid reinventing the wheel, if possible.

I'm trying to figure out why it keeps prompting me for a database login every single time you try to run the report with a different combobox selection. Here is my code: private Sub Form1_load...   Hi, I have a single user software that uses SQL Server database 2005. My computer was crushed while my software was on. I saved a copy of my database after I rescued my computer. However my software gives my following message. ( I don't know anything about SQL) However, I guess my database has the last login information. Since software was not shot down properly, it still thinks that I am logged in doesn't allow me to login again. How can I solve the problem? Can you help me?   Hi, I have copied a DB from one my computers and using it here. On trying to open the page which requires the fetching content from DB, on con.open I am getting this exception: Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Unable to open the physical file "E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\cakephp_log.LDF". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)". Cannot open database "cakephp" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'Sarin-PC\Sarin'. I have attached the database from Management Studio Express 2008 and I have also checcked the connection string. Here it is: <connectionStrings> <add name="cn" connectionString="server=.\sqlexpress;database=cakephp;integrated security=true;uid=sarin;pwd=******"/> </connectionStrings> In Visual Studio, when I test the connection, it says "Test connection succeeded". • SQL SERVER – SSMS: Disk Usage Report

  Let us start with humor!  I think we the series on various reports, we come to a logical point. We covered all the reports at server level. This means the reports we saw were targeted towards activities that are related to instance level operations. These are mostly like how a doctor diagnoses a patient. At this point I am reminded of a dialog which I read somewhere: Patient: Doc, It hurts when I touch my head. Doc: Ok, go on. What else have you experienced? Patient: It hurts even when I touch my eye, it hurts when I touch my arms, it even hurts when I touch my feet, etc. Doc: Hmmm … Patient: I feel it hurts when I touch anywhere in my body. Doc: Ahh … now I get it. You need a plaster to your finger John. Sometimes the server level gives an indicator to what is happening in the system, but we need to get to the root cause for a specific database. So, this is the first blog in series where we would start discussing about database level reports. To launch database level reports, expand selected server in Object Explorer, expand the Databases folder, and then right-click any database for which we want to look at reports. From the menu, select Reports, then Standard Reports, and then any of database level reports. In this blog, we would talk about four “disk” reports because they are similar: Disk Usage Disk Usage by Top Tables Disk Usage by Table Disk Usage by Partition Disk Usage This report shows multiple information about the database. Let us discuss them one by one.  We have divided the output into 5 different sections. Section 1 shows the high level summary of the database. It shows the space used by database files (mdf and ldf). Under the hood, the report uses, various DMVs and DBCC Commands, it is using sys.data_spaces and DBCC SHOWFILESTATS. Section 2 and 3 are pie charts. One for data file allocation and another for the transaction log file. Pie chart for “Data Files Space Usage (%)” shows space consumed data, indexes, allocated to the SQL Server database, and unallocated space which is allocated to the SQL Server database but not yet filled with anything. “Transaction Log Space Usage (%)” used DBCC SQLPERF (LOGSPACE) and shows how much empty space we have in the physical transaction log file. Section 4 shows the data from Default Trace and looks at Event IDs 92, 93, 94, 95 which are for “Data File Auto Grow”, “Log File Auto Grow”, “Data File Auto Shrink” and “Log File Auto Shrink” respectively. Here is an expanded view for that section. If default trace is not enabled, then this section would be replaced by the message “Trace Log is disabled” as highlighted below. Section 5 of the report uses DBCC SHOWFILESTATS to get information. Here is the enhanced version of that section. This shows the physical layout of the file. In case you have In-Memory Objects in the database (from SQL Server 2014), then report would show information about those as well. Here is the screenshot taken for a different database, which has In-Memory table. I have highlighted new things which are only shown for in-memory database. The new sections which are highlighted above are using sys.dm_db_xtp_checkpoint_files, sys.database_files and sys.data_spaces. The new type for in-memory OLTP is ‘FX’ in sys.data_space. The next set of reports is targeted to get information about a table and its storage. These reports can answer questions like: Which is the biggest table in the database? How many rows we have in table? Is there any table which has a lot of reserved space but its unused? Which partition of the table is having more data? Disk Usage by Top Tables This report provides detailed data on the utilization of disk space by top 1000 tables within the Database. The report does not provide data for memory optimized tables. Disk Usage by Table This report is same as earlier report with few difference. First Report shows only 1000 rows First Report does order by values in DMV sys.dm_db_partition_stats whereas second one does it based on name of the table. Both of the reports have interactive sort facility. We can click on any column header and change the sorting order of data. Disk Usage by Partition This report shows the distribution of the data in table based on partition in the table. This is so similar to previous output with the partition details now. I think this is too much disk information for a single blog and I hope you have used them in the past to get data. • How does one check if a table exists in an Android SQLite database?

  I have an android app that needs to check if there's already a record in the database, and if not, process some things and eventually insert it, and simply read the data from the database if the data does exist. I'm using a subclass of SQLiteOpenHelper to create and get a rewritable instance of SQLiteDatabase, which I thought automatically took care of creating the table if it didn't already exist (since the code to do that is in the onCreate(...) method). However, when the table does NOT yet exist, and the first method ran upon the SQLiteDatabase object I have is a call to query(...), my logcat shows an error of "I/Database(26434): sqlite returned: error code = 1, msg = no such table: appdata", and sure enough, the appdata table isn't being created. Any ideas on why? I'm looking for either a method to test if the table exists (because if it doesn't, the data's certainly not in it, and I don't need to read it until I write to it, which seems to create the table properly), or a way to make sure that it gets created, and is just empty, in time for that first call to query(...)

• In Adobe Air, how do I pull an image from a sqlite database that was created with .net?

  We have the need to create a sqlite database that contains images. The database is created using .net. After the db is created we need to use an air application to pull the images from the sqlite db created with c#. The database is created fine and Air can read all but the BLOB field which contains a bytearray created from an image in .net. My assumption is that the .net bytearray is not compatible with the actionscript bytearray because the actionscript byte array is encoded using the AMF protocol and the .net bytearray is not.

  It was a great experience to attend the MySQL Connect Conference for the first time ever. Personally I was very much enthralled to present about "How to make MySQL Backups" besides attending different sessions to absorb more knowledge about the technical prospects of MySQL. One of the agenda items in my presentation was "MySQL Enterprise Backup" functionality and features. There were total of 40 attendees in the session, who were very much interested about the MySQL Enterprise Backup product and gave positive feedback as well as areas of improvements on our product. Some of our features brought lot of excitement and smile amongst our customers including,1. Performance improvements in MEB 3.8.02. Incremental Base option from MEB 3.7.1 where there is no need to specify the directory name of the previous backup to fetch the lsn values and instead can directly fetch from backup_history table using --incremental-base=history: last_backup3. only-innodb-with-frm option introduced in MEB 3.7 version. A true online hot backup of InnoDB tables.I also attended a session with similar topic "MEB Best Practices" conducted by Sanjay Manwani, where he double clicked all the features and best strategies of backup & restore. I also got an opportunity to attend other sessions including,* Enabling the new generation of web and cloud services with MySQL 5.6 replication* Getting the most out of MySQL with MySQL Workbench* InnoDB compression for OLTP* Scaling for the Web and Cloud with MySQL replication.Above all, had some special moments in the conference including meeting some of the executives / colleagues for the first time f2f. On a whole, the first MySQL Connect conference was a great success in terms of manifesting the features of our products, direct feedback from customer and team building.  We also had some applauding yahoo moments when Tomas Ulin announced different releases including MySQL 5.6 RC, Connector Python 1.0 and ODBC 5.2 release, MySQL Cluster 7.3, additions to MySQL Enterprise edition etc.

  Hi! Today I am going to talk about compression in SQL Server 2008. The data warehouse I currently design and develop holds historical data back to 1973. The data warehouse will have an other blog post laster due to it's complexity. However, the server has 60GB of memory (of which 48 is dedicated to SQL Server service), so all data didn't fit in memory and the SAN is not the fastest one around. So I decided to give compression a go, since we use Enterprise Edition anyway. This is the code I use to compress all tables with PAGE compression. One thing I noticed when doing this, is that the database grows with the same size as the table. If the database cannot grow this size, the operation fails. For me, I first ended up with orphaned connection. Not good. And most important, complete database now could reside in memory! After this I took care of the administrative tasks, backups. Here I copied the code from Management Studio because I didn't want to give too much time for this. The code looks like (notice the compression option). • What can I do to give some more love and disk space to my database on Ubuntu?

  I'm new to linux. I've deployed a db to ubuntu server on amazon and found out I'm low on disk space. did df (see below) - and found out that I'm 89% capacity on one file system, but less on others. What does this mean? Do I have a few partitions and can now utilize others besides /dev/xvda1? Also /dev/xvdb seems large, is it safe to put the db in it and only use it? • zip being too nice (osX)

  I use zip to do a regular backup of a local directory onto a remote machine. They don't believe in things like rsync here, so it's the best I can do (?). It never seems to get above 5%. I tried making it nice -20 but that didn't make any difference. Is it just the network or disc speeds bottlenecking the process or am I doing something wrong?

I have a symlink "/var" linking to "/tmpfs/var.1" /var - /tmpfs/var.1 I start a script called "cache_tmpfs" from /etc/rc.local on startup this script will copy /var.backup/* contents to /tmpfs/var.1/ cp -dpRxf /var.backup/* /tmpfs/var.1/ now the problem is that kernel is opening messages log file in /var/log/messages, is it possible to remove the current /var symlink and recreate a new one (that will symlink to /var.backup insteed of /tmpfs/var.1) without issues as files once opened by system become hard links?? rm /var && ln -s /var.backup /var Thanks...

  I'm confused how to import a SQL dump file. I can't seem to import the database without creating the database first in MySQL. This is the error displayed when database_name has not yet been created: username = username of someone with access to the database on the original server. database_name = name of database from the original server $ mysql -u username -p -h localhost database_name < dumpfile.sql Enter password: ERROR 1049 (42000): Unknown database 'database_name' If I log into MySQL as root and create the database, database_name mysql -u root create database database_name; create user username;# same username as the user from the database I got the dump from. grant all privileges on database_name.* to username@"localhost" identified by 'password'; exit mysql then attempt to import the sql dump again: $ mysql -u username -p database_name < dumpfile.sql Enter password: ERROR 1007 (HY000) at line 21: Can't create database 'database_name'; database exists How am I supposed to import the SQL dumpfile?

• SQL Server: Is it possible to prevent SQL Agent from failing a step on error?

  I have a stored procedure that runs custom backups for around 60 SQL servers (mixes 2000 through 2008R2). Occasionally, due to issues outside of my control (backup device inaccessible, network error, etc.) an individual backup on one or two databases will fail. This causes this entire step to fail, which means any subsequent backup commands are not executed and half of the databases on a given server may not be backed up. On the 2005+ boxes I am using TRY/CATCH blocks to manage these problems and continue backing up the remaining databases. On a 2000 server however, for example, I have no way to prevent this error from failing the entire step: Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot open backup device 'db-diff(\PATH\DB-DIFF-03-16-2010.DIF)'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. I am simply asking if anything like this is possible in SQL 2000 or if I need to go in a completely different direction.

• iPhone: Core Data: Updating a pre-filled database in future app versions.

  I am creating an app with a database of information that needs to be pre-filled. This data will change in future versions. In the same database, I also need to store user editable information since that user edited data directly relates to the pre-filled data. My question is, if I'm pre-filling the database by creating a duplicate data model in a second app and copying over the core data file before release, how would I handle updates to that data in future versions of the app without destroying the user's existing data? Do the core data migration methods handle this, or must I write custom methods to programatically handle the merge at first app launch?
