• Ubuntu 12.04 updates fail recently - Please help

  I upgraded Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 LTS immediately after its release (april 2012). Since then updates (new kernels and others) succeeded regularly, but recently, suddenly, updates fail consistently.   In this blog I will demonstrate how we can enable attachments in Oracle Form. The user ask is to capture a job description which will be along text. Oracle Apps has a feature called attachments, through some easy setup we can enable attachments in forms. We will be going to addresscustomer ask through this feature. Step 1 : Identify Form Name First thing you have to do is to identify the form to enable attachment. In this scenario form will be PERWSDJT ( Job form in HRMS ). Step 2 :  Identify Document Entity exists or not. If exists then do nothing otherwise create new. Step 3 : Create Document Categories.   Prologue I have a busy personal and working time, and at this moment that I start to get more free time, I decided to start a Serie about Entity Framework with Oracle. A few time ago, I got my first experience with EF and Oracle with Oracle 10 g express and Oracle 10 g with the same results, Doesn’t work. Now I download Oracle 11 g to Test again. Tools To start using EF with Oracle we need the following: 1. Visual Studio 2010. No Express Edition 2. Oracle 11g 3 Oracle Driver for EF (ODAC) Intro People, who are starting with EF developments, I recommend to take a look into Unai Zorrilla’s Blog, the post were written in Spanish but they are great! To this Serie, we are going to define the DB from the Oracle administrator. For that we need to follow the next steps: 1. Create a User with a PassWord. In my example the user will be Jtorrecilla 2. Create a TableSpace 3. Define some example tables   (Image1) When we have created the DB, we are going to start a new project in VS 2010. I will start a C# Project. To start with EF, we need to add a new objet to our Project “ADO .NET Entity Data Model". (Image2) The next step will be to indicate that our model will be based on an existing DB, and indicate the connection string (Images 3 and 4): (Imagen3) (Imagen4) Once we selected the connection string, we will need to indicate that in the connection will be saved “Sensitive” data (Image 5), and in the next step we are going to select the DB objets to use in the project(Image 6).   (Image 5) (Image 6) A the end of the selection, we will press Finish button, and it will generate a EDMX file to add to our solution, and in the IDE will appear the DB Schema with the selected Tables and Relations. (Imagen7) One Entity is composed by a set of properties (each matches with a column from the Table in the DB) and Navigation Properties that represents any relation with other Entities.   Finally With this chapter we have installed the environment, defined a DB and configured the solution to start using EF with Oracle. • How to force Multiple Monitors correct resolutions for LightDM?

  I am affected by the BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/874241 Otherwise, if like me you have a laptop connected to a second monitor of higher resolution, LIGHTDM at the login stage, mirrors the displays in both screens and assign to them a common resolution (1024X768) in my case, instead of extending the desktop (Primary screen with the greeter and secondary with just a logo as mentioned in the Multiple Monitors UX specifications book for 12.04). • How to script a reinstall (apt repo's and installed packages)

  I need to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Ubuntu. /home is on a separate partition, so I can back that up to a backup drive, then copy it back to the wiped drive, install ubuntu, and point it at the existing /home, no problem. However, I also want to script a reinstall of all my apt repo's and the packages I currently have installed, so I don't have to waste hours doing that manually. Anyone know a good way to do this? PS - At least, I'm pretty sure I have to wipe the drive. Need to install Windows 7, and only have an HP system restore disk that formats the whole drive, and not a legit Windows 7 install disk that lets me install on a single partition. If somebody know a way to trick the system restore disk to install only to a single partition, I'd love to hear it.

• PL/SQL to delete invalid data from token Strings

  Previous article describes how to delete the duplicated values from token string in bulk mode. This one extends it and shows the way to delete invalid data. Scenario Support we have page_two and manufacturers tables in database and the table DDL is: SQL> desc page_two; Name NULL? TYPE ----------------------------------------- -------- ------ ID NOT NULL NUMBER NAME VARCHAR In table page_two, column multilist04 stores a token string splitted with common. Each token represent a valid ID in manufacturers table. My expectation is to delete invalid token strings from page_two.multilist04, which have no mapping id in manufacturers.id. For example in below SQL result: ,6295728,33,6295729,6295730,6295731,22, , value 33 and 22 are invalid data because there is no ID equals to 33 or 22 in manufacturers table. So I need to delete 33 and 22. I code Split intermediate function which is used to get the token value between current splitter and next splitter. Next program is main entry point, it get each column value from page_two.multilist04, process each row based on cursor. When it get each multilist04 value, it uses above Split function to get each token string stored to singValue variant, then check if it exists in manufacturers.id. If not found, set fixFlag to 1, pending to be deleted.

• Pendrive USB Ubuntu installation - black screen on boot

  I see many posts on this, but no solution. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my 16GB USB flash drive using this official link using their tool Universal USB Installer. Installation to USB went fine so I set my laptop to boot from USB and the Ubuntu was recognized. I saw the usual boot screen and I chose option "Run Ubuntu from this USB". The boot process started and after 5-6 seconds the screen goes black and non-responsive. I thought that it hang on X loading so I tried switching to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 but the system did not respond. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong? PS. My laptop is HP Pavillion G6

  Am Having issues with My Wireless 1 My laptop had dual boot windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.04 I upgraded to windows 8 and after the first 2-3 reboots all was working well in windows and ubuntu then my wireless in ubuntu stoped working saying "wifi is disabled by hardware switch" the hardware switch has no effect I removed network manager installed new firmwares and still nothing the wifi was not working in a moment of testing I installed wifi radar and this can detect the wireless signals and at one point it connected but still Network manger still says disabled. My Laptop is a HP Pavilion dm4 2070us with Wireless Centrino N 1000 I have updated to 13.10 thinking it would fix it but still nothing

  I've just installed Ubuntu natty 64bit. Now I'm trying to install wine and no matter how I do it (Software center/synaptic/terminal), it fails. • Wireless connect- Webcam activation- MBR repair/rebuild

  Evening: I've NEVER had so much difficulty with Ubuntu. I got "Ubuntu Made Easy" and couldn't believe it hasn't done a damn thing to help solve the problems!!! #1. Since install of 12.04 I haven't been able to connect to wireless. Have done everything I can find/think of. Laptop indicates it's receiving wireless. Ran all updates, restricted extras, etc. NOTHING!! Tried to find how to activate built-in webcam (it worked when I installed O.S.) NOTHING; tried to find MBR repair/rebuild terminal command.. NOTHING!!! The book has has been useless, so far!! I really have to solve these problems, otherwise laptop and UBUNTU are worthless!!! • How can I enable audio system on Envy 15t-3200

  I just received my HP Envy 15 (June 2012 model) and I cannot get my audio system to fully function. This laptop has 6 speakers. 1.) 2 speakers on the front of the laptop (Stereo). 2.) 2 speakers above the keyboard, just before the LCD hinges. 3.) 2 Subwoofer speakers underneath the battery cover facing downward. Only the 2 speakers in the front are working. This is a "Beats" audio system. There have been many beats audio laptops before this one, so maybe if someone has experience with those, it might translate to this device.

ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphic driver( post release update) 2.ATI/AMD proprietry FGLRX graphic driver ATI/AMD propreitry FGLRX graphics driver(post release update) tested by ubuntu developers License propreitry 3D accelerated propreitry graphic drivers for ATI cards. • No splash screen on hibernate

  Hibernate is working fine. A bit slow when resuming from a hibernate but I can bear with it just so that I have all open applications on the desktop as I left it. Then again the "slowness" might be because of the 4GB RAM, although I'm assuming only what is used gets swapped and not the entire memory. Going back, my question is has anyone been able to make Ubuntu show a splash screen or some kind of indicator/progress bar to show while hibernating or while resuming? I remember with SuSE on my HP Compaq Presario notebook it had messages appear during and after. Better than nothing, I guess. Thanks in advance! :D

  My computer (ultraboook : HP Envy 4 ) wont find the bootable windows usb. Unless its a ubuntu usb it wont show in boot selection (F9). I installed ubnutu as the one and only OS, and now i want to install windows as the only OS. The only problm is that my computer wont boot from the bootable usb. I think it has something to do with the boot settings that ubuntu has made to my computer.... I really need an answare as soon as possible, please help. Ive created a bootable windows usb in both windows and ubunut, and it still wont boot from the bootable usb, i also have a 300gb NTFS partition at the beginning of the harddrive, and it still wont boot into windows. I have a 32gb SSD and 500 gb SATA-HDD How can i get the system to recognize the bootable USB?

• files power_profile and power_method missing on ubuntu 12.04 after clean isntall

  OK here is the problem,I am using gnome-shell, ubuntu 12.04, kernel 3.2.0-32-generic-pae and the proprietary drivers for my ati card (Installed via "additional drivers") , the laptops is a hp 4310s probook and i want to control the power_profiles and power_method , because my GPU temp is high. before i reinstalled ubuntu 12.04, i used the .sh method on startup to write to those files, and everything worked like a charm, but now they are missing, and i can't create them.this is what i get when i try to create the directories mkdir: cannot create directory `/sys/class/drm': No such file or directory How can i can get them back?if you need some information , just ask and i will give it.

• A real noob question

  I have a Hp mini netbook that has been wiped clean, there is nothing other than the bios on it, it has no DVD and I don't have an external DVD. I can change the boot order to boot from a usb device. I have downloaded ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-i386 I have one of these http://www.kikatek.com/P100600/34609-IOMEGA-250gb-Select-Portable-HDD-2-5-USB?source=froogle currently formatted to NTFS but I can format to exFAT I have tried Linuxlive USB creator, all that managed to do was dual boot the desktop pc that I'm working off, and when booting on the wiped clean netbook, just left me with a black screen with a blinking cursor I have also tried Unetbootin, this managed to change my 'My Computer' icon to Install Ubuntu (C:) and now again, my desktop pc dual boots with the Wubi software, the Unetbootin, wouldn't let me select my external drive to write to Please I'm a complete idiot, i need a super idiots guide to doing this Regards Jaymz

• Left and right keys acting crazy on Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix?

  Hi guys, I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix on my HP Mini 1000. Everything worked fine right up until I tried typing - apparently the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard are uncontrollable. Everything I type ends up looking messed up because the left and right keys keep automatically inserting themselves into everything I type. This also happens when I click on, say, "File" on Firefox. It starts rotating between all the different menu options even though I'm not pressing anything on the keyboard. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is this a problem with the keyboard itself?

• Slow Wireless Reconnect After Suspend

  I a Broadcom 4312 using the STA drivers, I reinstalled ubuntu because the b43 drivers were giving me a huge hassle along with some weird kernel issues. My wireless speed is fine, everything works well, except upon restart of computer and after taking the computer out of suspend. It takes about 30-45 seconds for the wireless to reconnect, and I think it is a driver issue (I clicked on the network manager at the top and for about 30 seconds there are no wireless networks listed.) I tried this advice already: http://lilserenity.wordpress.com/2007/10/31/fix-ubuntu-dropping-wireless-on-suspendhibernate-resume/ which basically says to change this: STOP_SERVICES="" to STOP_SERVICES="networking" in the file /etc/default/acpi-support This did not help anything. Something to note is that the issue does not occur when I am logging back in after already logging in once and logging out.

• Power Management - Sleep / Wake up Server when accessed

  I have a headless HP Proliant Microserver with ubuntu installed. This machine has samba shares on it serving media and I usually rdp or ssh into it. Now my issue is I want the machine to go into sleep mode(so the state is saved from ram to the harddrive) and it will seem like it is turned off after an hour of idling. If there is any attempt to access the samba share through LAN I would like it to wake up. Now my motherboard supports this function, can anyone point me in the right direction for achieving this easily? Thanks

• Apt Configuration problem

  I am trying to load v11.04 onto my HP desktop hard drive using a USB drive. I used the same USB drive to load the system on my Dell netbook and it loaded successfully. But trying to load on the desktop I get the error " Apt configuration problem. An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed" The installer then crashes. I have nothing in the CD drive. I can boot the system from the USB drive and it works fine. I have tried all options on the load with the same crash each time. I baffled as I successfully loaded my netbook with the same USB with no problems.
