  • Getting rails to execute root level file edits on system files without compromising security.

    I'm writing a Rails 3 application that needs to be able to trigger modifications to unix system config files. I'd like to insulate the file modifications from the consumer side by running them in a background process. I've considered writing out a temp file in rails and then copying the file with a bash script but that doesn't really insulate the system. I've also considered pulling from the database manually with a cron based script and updating the configs. But what I would really like is a component that can hook into the rails environment, read out what is needed from the database, and update the config files. This process needs to be run as root because the config files mostly live in /etc/whatever. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It opens a help page in a new window/tab via <a href="..." target="help"> (no other frame has this name) This works well the first time opening a new window/tab, for the help. But on subsequent clicks the window/tab is loaded but remains hidden.     I am new to HTML so this question might sound a bit lame. Anyways I have a saved webpage on my desktop that when i open it in google chrome i want it to show a specific URL instead of its current location. Any ideas how i might get this to work? I tried using the history.pushState but i have no idea why it is not working.     With jetty, you can easily produce "html" response importing external file like : <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="myStyle.css"> <script src="myScript.js"></script> <head> However, where do you put myStyle.css and myScript.js, when jetty is embedded? Especially when the jetty server is a large OpenSource project not written by you? Is there by any chance a nice out.println(???); in the servlet.doGet that would provide the answer, or something similar?

    Hi all, I understand you can add insert blocks of html before and after a target using before(), insertBefore(), after() and insertAfter().   • youtube video will not display in desktop Chrome

    Youtube video does not show up in a modal window when viewed in a desktop version of Chrome. The modal window pops up but the youtube video does not. https://animalhealth.pfizer.com/sites/pahweb/US/EN/Products/Pages/ClarifideStories.aspx It works in IE and Firefox on Windows7, works in Chrome on Android ICS and iOS6 iPad. It is on a sharepoint site but if I open a version saved to my desktop it works fine in chrome.   • Is this a php memory leak?

    I have memory_get_usage() in the footer of my page and with each refresh of the page, I watch it increase by about 100k each time. My page load creates many objects and destroys them when done . My parent objects each have __destruct() which uses unset() with all child objects. Child objects with a reference back to the parent, have __destruct() to unset() these references. Inserting memory_get_usage() before and after processing different parts of my page only tells me how much of the total usage was added due to that part of the script. How do I go about determining what memory is lost and not recycled for garbage collection after the page finishes loading? I have one global $_SESSION var containing objects storing user info, but have verified using strlen(serialize($object)) that this object is not growing in size. I presume that what I am seeing is a memory leak and that php garbage collection should be in effect after the script ends. Any ideas how to debug this?

  • Problem with a large CSV file

    I have a very large CSV file. 51427 lines to be exact. I need to import the entire file into a MySQL database, however, the script times out due to server settings and slow connection (and maybe other reasons that I am not aware of). So - I am now passing parameters START and LIMIT via address bar to import, like this: http://my.server.address/import.php?...000&limit=1000 This reads the entire CSV file into an array, and starts at line 10000 of the array and inserts into the database until it reaches line 11000, and then terminates the script. This works very nicely, however, I am not happy having to reach the entire 51427 lines of the CSV file into an array before processing. Is there not a way where I can only read the required lines into an array? That would speed things up significantly.

  • Qt drag/drop: cannot move when copy is enabled (Ubuntu Gnome)

    I'm implementing a view and a model where I want to support both moving items internally (by dragging), and copying items (by pressing Ctrl while dragging). I've done everything I need to do according to the instructions. I've set up the mime functions, I've implemented removeRows(), and flags(). The problem is when I drag, it defaults to a copy operation (I get the arrow cursor with a plus sign, and it indeed copies the item by creating a new one in the model). The only difference I can see is this: If I return only Qt::MoveAction in supportedDropActions(), it only moves. If I return (Qt::CopyAction | Qt::MoveAction), it only copies. Any ideas? I want it to work like files in Nautilus (Gnome) or Windows file Explorer: drag moves icons around, ctrl+drag copies them.

  • How can I start a new glutMainLoop() after exiting one?

    I've written a PERL script using OpenGL. It calls glutMainLoop() to let the user view some stuff, then the user closes the window but I want to let him continue using the script and reopening a new window and seeing some other stuff. Is that possible? I've found that it is possible to execute this instruction: glutSetOption(GLUT_ACTION_ON_WINDOW_CLOSE,GLUT_ACTION_GLUTMAINLOOP_RETURNS); to return to the code after the window is closed. But then if I call again a glut* function it tells me that I can't call it without calling glutInit and if I call glutInit it tells me that I can't just call it again! Is there some trick?

  • I can't upload a file with CGIHTTPServer

    Hi all, I'm using the CGIHTTPServer to implement a simple cgi server. I'm trying to upload a file by a form with the post method and the multipart/form-data enctype but I have problems when I recover the value of the fields in the cgi script. When the script catch the form fields, the value of the file is a MiniFieldStorage with two fields only (key and file name), and I can't recover the content of the file. As the API doc shows, this content is in value field of a StorageField but in the MiniFieldStorage this field isn't exits. ¿How can I recover a StorageField with the content of the file instead a MiniStorageField? ¿There are other method to upload a file using CGIHTTPServer? Upon doing so though I get the error Missing } in XML expression on the line that uses dropdownhtml.     I've got a file INPUT that has the following contents: 123\n 456\n 789 I want to run my script like so: script.rb < INPUT and have it convert the contents of the INPUT file to an array, splitting on the new line character. So, I'd having something like myArray = [123,456,789]. Here's what I've tried to do and am not having much luck: myArray = STDIN.to_s myArray.split(/\n/) puts field.size I'm expecting this to print 3, but I'm getting 15. I'm really confused here.     Using bash, how can one get the number of files in a folder, excluding directories from a shell script without the interpreter complaining? With the help of a friend, I've tried $files=$(find ../ -maxdepth 1 -type f | sort -n) $num=$("ls -l" | "grep ^-" | "wc -l") which returns from the command line: ../1-prefix_blended_fused.jpg: No such file or directory ls -l : command not found grep ^-: command not found wc -l: command not found respectively. These commands work on the command line, but NOT with a bash script. Given a file filled with image files formatted like 1-pano.jpg, I want to grab all the images in the directory to get the largest numbered file to tack onto the next image being processed. Why the discrepancy?

    Hello all, I open a 10MB+ XML file several times in my script in different functions: $dom = DOMDocument::load( $file ) or die('couldnt open'); 1) Is the above the old style of loading a document? I am using PHP 5. Oppening it statically? 2) Do I need to close the loading of the XML file, if possible? I suspect its causing memory problems because I loop through the nodes of the XML file several thousand times and sometimes my script just ends abruptly. Thanks all for any help
