  • Unsafe shutdown on power button press (Ubuntu Server 13.10)

    I have Ubuntu Server 13.10 set up on a machine, and whenever I press (not press and hold) the power button the machine doesn't safely shutdown (it instantly powers off), though it does flash the message "acpid: exiting" before turning off. If I instead run shutdown -h now, it goes through the usual cycle of stopping processes, unmounting filesystems, etc... Any ideas why this might be? I want the power button to safely shut down the system (unless I hold it down, of course).

    I use CyanogenMod and ClockWork Recovery on my Nexus 7. How can my existing full nandroid backup be used to restore my device after installing Ubuntu? The instructions assume "recovery" would mean re-flashing the vanilla image, at factory, data-wiped condition. It would be useful to provide a .zip that can be flash via Clockwork (or other) recovery and back to whatever Nandroid backup there is - much as any other ROM is provided/used.

  • YouTube, no video or sound

    I tried the answers from previous posts without luck. I'm using ubuntu 10.04.4 and youtube shows a black screen, no video and no sound . I uninstalled adobe flash player closed down and reinstalled but it didn’t help. I have run Mint 13 on the same computer and it will play youtube without a problem. I'm not familier with linux language . Using comands in terminal might make everything terminal if I try!

    There is a sound typically associated with a bright flash of light, which starts with a lower whirring noise, then breaks into a higher pitched sound. What is that type of sound called? I'm not sure how to begin searching for that, so a typical name for it would be very helpful. It's something similar to what occurs at 0:41 in this youtube video (here's a link to a few seconds beforehand), where Naruto 6 tails transforms into Kyuubei in Naruto Generations.

    I'm looking to add circle-polygon collisions to my Separating Axis Theorem collision detection. The metanet software tutorial (http://www.metanetsoftware.com/technique/tutorialA.html#section3) on SAT, which I discovered in the answer to a question I found when searching, talks about voronoi regions. I'm having trouble finding material on how I would calculate these regions for an arbitrary convex polygon and aleo how I would determine if a point is in one + which. The tutorial does contain source code but it's a .fla and I don't have Flash unfortunately.

I click on suspend accidentally and HD led continues flash, but I tried to press any key keyboard, and CTL-ALT-PS R-E-I-S-U-B and power button, but can not wake up computer.     Possible Duplicate: Can't boot without Flash Drive plugged in I've just installed Ubuntu on my PC and now it doesn't start unless I change the boot priority, if boot priority is my HD then it doesn't start and if boot priority is my pen-drive then it starts. If I remove my pen-drive, the system keep working normal, but if a restart my PC without the pen-drive, it will not start. Could someone help me?

When I first booted I was given the option to store a key file to some Flash-drive (USB) or anything and there was a hint how to do it later. I wanted to do it later but now can't find where to find or how to generate the key file in any documentation. So whats the command, where's the file?
