• Apps crashing with EXC_BAD_ACCESS when changing to a custom keyboard layout

  I have a custom layout installed (svdvorak_mac6.keylayout). After a reboot another keyboard layout was selected, so I selected my usual one instead. This lead to a lot of apps suddenly starting to crash (Chrome, Skype, Adium etc). I can change to any other built in layout for OS X, but as soon as I choose one custom installed one (either form ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ or from /Library/Keyboard Layouts/) the apps crash. The only thing I can remember that I did before the reboot was to install Google's video chat plugin for the browser.   Hi All, Quick question - I run two linux boxes, one my own desktop and the other my VPS. For security reasons on the VPS end I opted for socket connections to MySQL (/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock). I know I can tunnel like this: ssh -L 3307:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] if I set up the remote sql server to listen on some port, but what I want to know is can I do something like: ssh -L /path/to/myremotesqlserver.sock:/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock thereby tunnelling two sockets, as opposed to two ports? A perfectly acceptable solution would also be to forward a local port to the remote socket file, but where possible I'm trying not to have tcp servers running on the remote box. • Project Server 2007 Task Updates hangs on 'Loading Grid...'

  A strange problem began occurring after applying MOSS2 (KB953334) and the August 2009 cumulative update to our Project server. When a user enters the 'Task Update' screen they are prompted to download a new ActiveX control. Upon refresh, and subsequent access attempts, the user is presented with a blank grid with the caption 'Loading Grid...' We have attempted to fix this issue by updating the 'Trusted Sites' list and changing the security settings according to KB818046. However, nothing seems to definitely fix the problem. Also, when the problem randomly fixes itself, it still occurs when viewing specific projects. Any ideas on a fix?

When using LOGON32_LOGON_SERVICE as LogonType, Login fails, EventViewer says: An account failed to log on. After applying the latest round of updates (including Root Certificates for April 2012 KB931125 (See:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933430/)), EAP authentication is failing due to being malformed. Sample error (Security/Event ID 6273), truncated for brevity: Authentication Details: Proxy Policy Name: Use Windows authentication for all users Network Policy Name: Wireless Access Authentication Provider: Windows Authentication Server: nps-host.corp.contoso.com Authentication Type: PEAP EAP Type: - Account Session Identifier: - Reason Code: 266 Reason: The message received was unexpected or badly formatted.   How do I bypass the security warning in the RDP Client everytime you launch it from a RDP shortcut? The message title reads: "The publisher of this remote connection cannot be identified. Do you want to connect anyway?" There's a checkbox that reads: "Don't ask me again for connections to this computer" If we check that, it rights the following registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\LocalDevices] "MachineIP or Name"=dword:00000004 I'm trying to bypass this warning by writing this registry values before I run the RDP. The problem is that the dword value varies. I found that in one machine (Win7), it was 4, but in another machine (XP), the value was 72 decimal. Does it vary depending on your OS, or is it by the RDP client version? Other info: Signing all my RDP files is NOT an option. Checking the checkbox is NOT an option as we are trying to automate some stuff with a C# tool. Thank you

  I'm trying to set up netcfg so that I can finish installing Arch Linux (using the instructions from the Beginners' Guide and netcfg) and I passed over what was meant to be a short step. Open wifi-menu, select network, enter password. After multiple attempts, I decided to edit the profile manually, which yielded no improvement. Eventually I decided to use netfcg with the more familiar wpa_supplicant. And my /etc/network.d/wpa_suppl file reads: CONNECTION='wireless' DESCRIPTION='A wpa_supplicant configuration based wireless connection' INTERFACE='wlan0' SECURITY='wpa-config' WPA_CONF='/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf' IP='dhcp' My ssid is not hidden, wlan0 is the proper interface, and wpa_supplicant works fine on its own, but using netcfg wpa_suppl, it returns failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open no such file or directory about twelve times before finally telling me the authentication failed. What can I do to fix this?

• Windows 7 random black screen when idle

  Occasionally, when I'm away from my computer for about 5 minutes, the computer screen will go black and all USB devices (keyboard/mouse) will lose power. Attempting to move the mouse or pressing keys does not 'wake up' the computer. This only started happening a few days ago but I'm not sure what changes I did could have caused this and I uninstalled programs (one by one) I installed before it started happening, but still having the same issue. The one thing I noticed different about my computer since it started happening is i've been getting random survey popups from www.insightexpress.com. I ran Microsoft Security Essentials scan, it picked up some Java related malware, I removed it but still the same issue. I'm running MBAM right now and will run SAS after.

• Can't update BIOS on Dell E6530

  I have a problem with the video output on my E6530. It does not show anything during POST on my external screens. As it seems this is related to A09 BIOS which is currently installed. I wanted to upgrade to A11 BIOS and downloaded the installer from the Dell Website. The installer launches correctly and displays the current version, the update versions and reboots the system afterwards. Bit the BIOS version remains A09. I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Any hints? Thank you very much. • ulimit not reflected for jenkins slave

  Problem Got java.io.IOException: Too many open files in solr indexing through jenkins. Did some googling and found we have to set the ulimit for the box in where we are running the job. So set the ulimit in a linux box with spec Linux x86_64 GNU/Linux in both of the following fashions ulimit -n 1000000 /etc/security/limits.conf userx soft nofile 1000000 userx hard nofile 1000000 Given userx is the user through which the jenkins job is being executed. when doing ssh to the box as userx manually through terminal and check ulimit -n am getting 10000000 Question But when executing the same ulimit -n through a jenkins job, only getting 1024 which is the default. Any advice would be much helpful?

• Domain Controllers group not reflected in domain controllers credentials

  I set up a small testlab in vbox consisting of four servers. Two domain controllers dc01, dc02, one offline root ca and one online enterprise sub ca, ca01. All servers are based on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Everything works as excpected except one thing. If I issue a certificate template with read, enroll and autoenroll rights to the security group "domain controllers" it does not let dc01 or dc02 to enumerate or enroll for the certificate. I've restarted both domain controllers several times to update their credential tokens with the correct group memberhips. So I added dc01 to the "domain computers" group and gave that group read, enroll and autoenroll rights in the template, bam, the certificate was issued. So my question is, why isn't the domain controllers group memberhips reflected in the domain controllers (dc01 and dc02) credentials? Can I view the computers credentials somehow and how should I go about trying to resolve the issue?

  I have a Netgear N750 as my main router, which connects to the internet via a modem. I have a second Netgear N750 which I want to use to repeat the wireless signal of the main router. I logged in to routerlogin of my main router (192.168.1.1) and set up the "Wireless Repeating Function". I set it as the "Wireless Base Station" and filled in the MAC adress of my second Netgear N750. Then I logged in to routerlogn of my second router and set it up as the "Wireless Repeater", I gave it the IP 192.168.1.11 and filled in the MAC adress of the base station. During the setup of the second router (Repeater) I had to disable all security functions. If I connect to the repeaters' WLAN signal, I get no internet connection. Maybe you can help me, thanks

• Getting 0x80070043 error when accessing Samba share from Windows 7

  I created a Samba share on my new Ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I try to access it from a Windows 7 client, I get network error 0x80070043 (The network path not found). However, I get this error when I click on the share in the Windows Explorer, so it seems that Windows does find the path. I already enabled NTLMv1, disabled 128bit security and made sure that NetBIOS is running. I briefly disabled the Windows firewall, it didn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

  Following the recent security advisory, I'm reconfiguring our VPN servers and having trouble. We're using Windows 2008 R2 server for VPN services, running RRAS and NPS on the same server and configure it to use PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPV2 authentiation for all tunnel type(PPTP, L2TP, IKEv2, SSTP), which previously allowed plain MSCHAPv2. But Apple products, MacOS and iOS cannot connect to VPN after this change. I tried to install root certificate used in PEAP transaction but no change. Does anyone know whether MacOS/iOS supports PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPv2 authentication in PPTP/L2TP? If so any tips to make it work? (I know PEAP-EAP-MSCHAPv2 is supported in WPA/WPA2 enterprise) Regards.

  I'm trying to setup a Geotrust SSL certificate for my Heroku app using the SSL Endpoint addon and the instructions at https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/ssl-endpoint. I generated my public key from my private key using: openssl rsa -in server.orig.key -out server.key and added to the heroku certs: heroku certs:add server.crt server.key Everything seemed to be fine. heroku certs listed the corrected information only with Trusted = false for my certificate. If I go to https://tokyo-2121.herokussl.com the browser says: You attempted to reach tokyo-2121.herokussl.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as www.mydomain.com. As expected with the certificate apparently identifying the correct domain, but When I set up the CNAME to the given tokyo-2121.herokussl.com and visit my subdomain the browser says: www.mydomain.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for the following names: *.herokuapp.com , herokuapp.com If I run curl -kv https://www.mydomain.com I get: subjectAltName does not match www.mydomain.com

• Unable to authenticate Windows XP clients agains Snow Leopard Server PDC after 10.6.2 upgrade

  I have setup a Snow Leopard Server 10.6.1 as a PDC without problems to authenticate Windows XP clients. Joining a Windows XP client to the SLS PDC Domain and log in from a Windows XP client to the SLS PDC Domain are working. After the update to Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 the authentication is broken. opendirectory_smb_pwd_check_ntlmv1 gave -14090 [eDSAuthFailed] By changing the Windows XP "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" policy to NTVLM2 responses only the authentication agains a SMB share is possible, but trying to join SLS PDC Domain is still not possible. opendirectory_smb_pwd_check_ntlmv2 gave -14090 [eDSAuthFailed] Any ideas? Is anyone else having similar authentication difficulties?

• Winbind group lookup painfully slow

  I am running winbind on an RHEL 6 system. Everything works fine except group lookups, so many commands (including sudo) are painfully slow. I did an strace which shows that winbind looks up every group and every user within each group for the current user. Some of these groups have 20000+ users so a simple sudo can take 60 seconds to complete. I really only care about speeding up the sudo command. Ideal solutions would make it so either: groups with more than X number of users will not be looked up, or sudo bypasses group lookups altogether.   I need to create a L2TP VPN server on a VPS in a OpenVZ container (I can install CentOS5, CentOS6, Ubuntu12.04 or Debian6). I have been reading and I think IPSEC does not work on OpenVZ, is this right? In fact I´m getting an error saying that it's not allowed in the kernel... But an important thing is that I don't have any security requirement at all for the transmissions I'll be doing. So, is there something I can do? Is there any way to set up a L2TP server without IPSEC?

• Are spurious TCP connections on port 53 a problem?

  I run a server which amongst other things uses tinydns for DNS and axfrdns for handling transfer requests from our secondary DNS (another system). I understand that tinydns uses port 53 on UDP and axfrdns uses port 53 on TCP. I've configured axfrdns to only allow connections from my agreed secondary host. I run logcheck to monitor my logs and every day I see spurious connections on port 53 (TCP) from seemingly random hosts. They usually turn out to be from ADSL connections. My question is; are these innocent requests or a security risk? I am happy to block repeat offenders using iptables but don't want to block innocent users of one of the websites I host.   I have a server with Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 Edition installed. This has been installed and running for several months and I have been able to successfully install previous Windows Updates. I have two pending updates that fail to install. (KB967723) Security update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (KB976098) Update for Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition Fails with Error code: 80070490 Followed this off Microsoft support site, which basically says to repair Windows with the install DVD. When I get to the step to select upgrade I get the following error. Upgrade has been disabled. The upgrade cannot be started. To upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is more recent then the version you are currently running. So basically feel like I've hit a dead end with out doing a complete reinstall. Any ideas ?

• Can't Delete Old Windows Directory

  I got a new SSD drive for my computer, and have installed Windows on this drive. This left an old Windows directory on my old normal drive. I am now attempting to delete this old Windows directory, but am getting blocked by security. If I crawl down into each subdirectory, I can manually change the ownership and access rights for each file, but if I attempt to do it from the root directory, I get a "Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied" error. I have tried logging in as local Administrator, but this had the same effect. I figure that I am missing something stupid, but I just can't determine what it is.

• setting ulimit and ubuntu 8.04

  Hi there, We have two ubuntu 8.04 servers. With the database server I set the table_cache to 1000 however when I restart mysql the status only shows 257 and the open files limit says 1024 I adjusted ulimit by doing ulimit -n 8192 and then restarting mysql; this seemed to do the tick however after a few hours I did ulimit -n and saw it had returned back to 1024 Bit of a worry. I edited the /etc/security/limits.conf and added mysql soft nofile 8192 mysql hard nofile 8192 then rebooted, no change. I then edited and change mysql to * rebooted, no change I then edited and changed it to one line * - nofile 8192 and rebooted, no change. cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max gives me 768730 sysctl fs.file-max gives me fs.file-max = 768730 I am at a bit of a loss to how I can set and keep the ulimit value set so I can increase the table cache properly on mysql.
