SSL on multiple directories

I have a website that is http, but has a port set up for https for a specific directory that is for the shopping cart. Now I'd like to use our SSL on a different directory in the same site as well. How can I go about configuring that? I have tried looking into all of the config files as well as the docs and cannot figure it out. I tried setting this in httpd.config as well <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:[ssl port]> #also tried *:[ssl port] and [actual IP]:[ssl port] ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot "C:/path/sslNeededDir" ServerName www.example.com </VirtualHost> hoping that it would cause pages in this directory to use ssl port and become https, but that didn't do anything. Any help is greatly appreciated. Update: This finally got migrated over. I'm still looking for a solid answer on this. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Do I really need to remove special characters in a URL?

I have an FTP account shared with friends where we upload underground music albums and then we use the links to share the downloads in a music forum. The problem is that the album names are in french so there is a lot of special characters in the name. So the URL looks like http://www.mydomain.com/downloads/Some Band - En français avec des caractères spéciaux (2013) [7'' EP].zip For me it works perfectly and I can download the file by using this URL, but I have read everywhere that special chars are bad in URL. Is there any reason why I must remove the special characters or encode the URL? Is everyone able to access a URL with special characters or will some older browsers not be able to download the files? I really don't care about SEO or anything else. I just want the download links to work for everyone. Since the files are uploaded through FTP, I can't use PHP to remove the special characters with a regex, so I really don't know what to do.

What is the best taxonomy from Google's perspective?

I was wondering what the best way is to structure a new website in Google's eyes. Currently, it contains two top-level categories (X & Y), and clicking a term under either one will result in the URL: www.nameofsite.com/X/X type term, or /Y/Y type term Technically, it is correct to group all "X type terms" under X and "Y type terms" under Y, but we could probably be more granular and break all articles into 5-6 top-level categories by breaking Y up into more specific categories. Given that the current URL structure will eventually result in 1000's of "X type terms" and "Y type terms" under just two top-level categories, would it be more advisable to have several of these, as suggested? I have an issue with Google Analytics, can't seem to find a guide how to activate Demographics and Interests reports. Facebook likes reset after moving to HTTPS

I've got a question regarding the Facebook like button. We worked on a piece recently that embeds a number of social share buttons (please see the source code below). When the piece was released, it was on HTTP, and received over 2k likes (the URL 'slug' hasn't changed at all). The site was recently migrated to permanent-on HTTPS, and the like data has been reset, and we've been left with 50 new, recent likes. If you see in the source code, the URL is set explicitly to like the HTTP version, which I believe to be correct. Can anyone help me work out what's happened here? Making a physicalized melee weapon

The short version, is that I was asked to look into the feasibility of making a melee weapon, that one could swing at another object in the game, and have it interact physically. I completed the tutorial here http://www.mavrikgames.com/tutorials/melee-weapons, and proved that indeed it is. The thing is, that only for a brief period in the swing is the sword capable of knocking things around. I've looked through the editor and code for awhile now, and I'm still not sure how to do this. I was able to lengthen the amount of time it takes the animations run for, but not the length of time with which the sword can bash the barrel around.

There are a lot of great explanations for what the Model-View-Controller design pattern is, but I am having trouble finding good resources showing how to use it in practice. So, when you are starting a new application (doesn't matter what it is), what is in your toolbox? For example, it was suggested that using UML collaboration diagrams ( http://www.objectmentor.com/resources/articles/umlCollaborationDiagrams.pdf ) can be useful when designing an application around MVC, although, I am not certain exactly how or why this might be the case...? 12.04 LTS usb wont boot

I've tried to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS parallel with Windows 8, on my laptop Clevo m767yu But when I try to boot from USB it just stops when it's trying to read the files. it stops and shows this picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/np3ptvvmasv7ax2/IMAG0097.jpg If I try to boot from a cd, it stops and shows a cursor blinking. I've tried both usb and cd on other computers, and the both works. I've a little experience with Ubuntu, but I have never had problems with the installing process. Any help will be appreciated!

Google Analytics Request URI to Event advanced filter

I have a query string attached to a Request URI. Whilst I can see this data within the pages report and it works, I was thinking about setting up an advanced filter to convert the request URI to an Event, with the hope this would clean up my pages report and sit this query with related events in my data. I can see in advanced filters that this is possible, but seems limited to specifying a single event area, so Cat, action or Label, not all 3. Does any one know how I could set up an advanced filter to find any URIs that contain a specific query string, say example below. www.example.com?querystring=123 and convert this into an event, where I can set the Cat, action and label.

Google analytics shows wrong number of page views, asp.net website

Sometimes it can be for example 4500 requests, after a few hours it shows a few thousand less. What is wrong? It looks like analytics corrects itself. I changed from classic to Universal a few months ago, do not know if it has anything to do with this. Am I unhireable?

I've received my B.S. in Software Engineering in August 2010 and I've been looking for a job since. I've gotten two interviews since that went up to the technical phone interview and then they were no longer interested. One of the recruiters mentioned to me that they thought my fundamentals weren't strong enough. What do I need to brush up on in order to get past the technical phone interview. My language of most experience is C#. I know Object Oriented Programming. I know what the difference between an interface and an abstract class is. I've applied to positions from game programming to WPF/Silverlight. I have a portfolio website www.samarmstrong.me. It also has my resume on there. I never had real internship. Am I unhireable?

How do you make a bootable usb stick on OSX with a corrupted harddrive`?

I cant access the desktop because my harddrive is corrupted. Therefore I want to make a bootable USB stick so i can transfer all of my important files to my External HD. Problem is that Im stuck on Step 3 --- http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx . Im not sure of what i should change this to: hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o ~/path/to/target.img ~/path/to/ubuntu.iso It says convert failed - No such file or directory. Obviously the problem is that i dont know the path to the USB, maybe you know how to find out? Please help me. Thanks. ps. Ive downloaded the ubuntu desktop amd64+mac.

netbeans doesn't display properly after permission change

So basically i installed netbeans 7.2 through the site and everything worked fine. I then changed permissions for /var/www so that my apache2 could write on it without problems. After that netbeans started behaving strangely and giving errors and the fonts where all ugly. So i re-installed it but the problem continued. I have options in Tools that don't even show up anymore. If i open with Sudo the fonts come up nicely again, but the amount of options still isn't the same as the original installation Can anyone help me?

Some may claim that this has already been asked, but I don't see MY problem in any of those posts. And if they actually have the same problem as mine, I may not understand what they've been trying to point out, actually. I hope you understand as to why I require a direct answer to the problem I'm having. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 along my Windows using a USB stick. It is possible to access my Windows (8.1) files from the folder page. I took off the Windows sticker, so I cannot get a Windows CD or anything from the support guys. I would delete my Windows partition then, but it's also tangled in this geeky mystery. Pitfalls of using a WYSIWYG editor? [closed]

I'm interested in reasons for disallowing content editors on medium to large sites, from using various forms of WYSIWYG editors. A common problematic scenario I can think of is that with the use of a WYSIWYG, an editor uploads an image "somewhere" to the file-system, inserts it directly into the text, and publishes the article. Shortly afterwards, someone wants to pull out "The last 10 uploaded images", and display them on the frontpage. Good luck parsing all the content. Taking a look around at some large international online magazines, such as http://www.time.com/, and some local ones, I see that the editors seem to produce articles that are almost only consisting of raw text. Images are usually at the top of the article, and otherwise the most complex content are usually links. What are some common reasons for refusing editors access to WYSIWYG tools?

How do I install latest NVIDIA drivers from the .run file?

This is what I am trying to do. I downloaded the latest driver for my VGA from http://www.nvidia.com. The installation needs the X11 to be shut down, so I log out of my account, then press CTRL+ALT+F1, then log in with my username and password, then run the command sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-285.05.09.run in every possible way, I have even tried CHMODing the package with 777 permissions, but still I'm getting the sh: can't open NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-285.05.09.run error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Making a sldprt to PDB file converter?

I wanted to create a parser that can read a solidworks file and turn it into a protein data bank file. This has already been done in a program called DiamondCAD. http://www.zyvex.com/Research/DiamondCAD.html I waant to make a parser that can parse the data and then visualize it the same way as DiamondCAD. I have downloaded and opened solidworks files before and they make no sense to me with never before seen symbols and looks like ancient writing. Does anyone know how a sldprt. file is structured and how it can be parsed into a PDB file? (A software called VMD converts a PDB to Obj. file so it is proof of concept)
