  • How to control the state of the buttons to be in present based on an event happened in a Silverlight app?

    I am trying to avoid building two buttons when I really need one. In my Silverlight app scenarios, I have few grids with a different content and buttons that control the visibility of these grids. I need to be able to show a different visual for a button when its content grid is visible. I can control states such as MouseOver and Pressed and more with visual state manage. However, I am not sure how to achieve this functionality with. I also can place an image on top of the button and switch the visibility of both but it is not perfect for what I need. I am wondering if there is any way to achieve this behavior. Any ideas are highly appreciated!

    What is the best practice is in the case of altering the render order of elements on a webpage. For example, I have two DIVs that are to be displayed on a page: <div id="appleSection"> <!-- Apple DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> <div id="orangeSection"> <!-- Orange DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> Depending on user selection (perhaps by country or something), the order which the DIVs are presented to the user can differ. Certain conditions present appleSection above orangeSection, and for other conditions, their order is reversed. If the core logic of the page is the same regardless, is it a best practice to determine order on the server-side (perhaps via two pages that differ in the order of the DIVs), or is it more appropriate to have just a single page and use CSS to control whether appleSection is above orangeSection or vice versa?

  • Is it bad practice to select upstream servers based upon the HTTP method?

    I'm wondering if it is bad practice to have a reverse proxy that selects the upstream server depending on the HTTP method used? The background is that I have an abitrary web server that handles POST requests with some logic behind. The same resources also contain static content, that can be retrieved using GET. After some benchmarking I realized that nginx would handle the static content way faster than my abitrary web server doing this. I checked the option to forward incoming requests internally using nginx, which is feasible. But this would lead to the fact that different servers would serve a distinct resource, only depending on issuing a GET or POST, including different header fields.

  • How can I convince IE to simply display application/json rather than offer to download it?

    While debugging jQuery apps that use AJAX, I often have the need to see the json that is being returned by the service to the browser. So I'll drop the URL for the JSON data into the address bar. This is nice with ASPNET because in the event of a coding error, I Can see the ASPNET diagostic in the browser: But when the server-side code works correctly and actually returns JSON, IE prompts me to download it, so I can't see the response. Can I get IE to NOT do that, in other words, to just display it as if it were plain text? I know I could do this if I set the Content-Type header to be text/plain. But this is specifically an the context of an ASPNET MVC app, which sets the response automagically when I use JsonResult on one of my action methods. Also I kinda want to keep the appropriate content-type, and not change it just to support debugging efforts.

    I thought by placing these two lines that it would prevent the page from being cached but this is not the case between the head tags: <meta http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache" /> As already mentioned this is on server that doesn't support PHP (or any server side language, well, that's not true, it has cgi-bin folder that supports perl scripts but I don't know perl and have no time to engage in it.) What else could I do to prevent the page from caching? It caches on Firefox and IE (and not so much in Chrome or Safari.)

  • How to get the app a Django model is from?

    I have a model with a generic relation: TrackedItem --- genericrelation ---> any model I would like to be able to generically get, from the initial model, the tracked item. I should be able to do it on any model without modifying it. To do that I need to get the content type and the object id. Getting the object id is easy since I have the model instance, but getting the content type is not: ContentType.object.filter requires the model (which is just content_object.__class__.__name__) and the app_label. I have no idea of how to get in a reliable way the app in which a model is. For now I do app = content_object.__module__.split(".")[0], but it doesn't work with django contrib apps.

  • jQuery .toggle() not working as expected with second function?!

    I'm trying to create a button to show / hide a div below it, all is working fine, I'm just struggling with the last bit! I need to distinguish wether it's a show or hide action so I can pass the variable elsewhere, here's what I have.. $(this).find('.hide-close').click( function() { $(this).siblings('.dragbox-content').toggle(function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Show'); },function() { alert($(this).parent().attr("id") + ' Hide'); } ); }) .end() }); If use the following code, taking out the second function within toggle(), it works?!     I'm having problems in IE6 and 7 with a div that doesn't complete the bottom padding that is attributed to it, so doesn't appear to finish the div down to the white content area like required.   • Robust Way of Selecting All Text in Textbox

    I'm trying to have the content of the an HTML textbox be selected fully onFocus. I know the simple solution of putting a onfocus="this.select()" on the component but this is not a good solution because if a user double clicks into the area the selection is lost and in browsers like chrome it is rarely working like it should and just reverts into input form. I have searched on Google for a little while and can't find a good solution, most suggestions are of this simple solution. What I would like it is that the selection inside the textbox not change once selected and if possible the user should not be able to edit the content of the textbox, for example if you have used AdSense when you grab code from AdSense the selection never changes and your unable to alter the code in the textbox. Any solutions would be appreciated.

    During investigation of some problem I found that the reason was unexpected different conversion to string[] of seemingly same input data. Namely, in the code below two commands both return the same two items File1.txt and File2.txt. But conversion to string[] gives different results, see the comments. Any ideas why is it? This might be a bug. If anybody also thinks so, I’ll submit it.   • Allow users to pull temporary data then delete table?

    I don't know the best way to title this question but am trying to accomplish the following goal: When a client logs into their profile, they are presented with a link to download data from an existing database in CSV format. The process works, however, I would like for this data to be 'fresh' each time they click the link so my plan was - once a user has clicked the link and downloaded the CSV file, the database table would 'erase' all of its data and start fresh (be empty) until the next set of data populated it.   • Refresh a GridView after some event on server

    I use a GridView to represent data from a table in my DB. the GridView has some template fields whose content are determined before displaying the Grid ( I use the RowDataBound event to determine content of template fields before displaying the GridView). The page displays a list of records from the table records and then, the recording process starts. after the process is over, the template fields should be updated. how do I automatically refresh the GridView after the process is finished ? it should be noted that the GridView is contained within an control and that I continuously poll the server using a Timer control that executes "GridView1.DataBind()" at the server level every 60 seconds. How can I solve this ?

    Hiya, A client of ours is attending a business fair and would like to push some sort of "welcome message" to people visiting their space. I'm not too familiar with Bluetooth, so I have a few questions: What kind of content can you transfer via Bluetooth? (Is it files only or is it possible to send a simple text message?) Is it possible to push content only to recipients within a certain distance? (ie. based on signal strength or similar) Can anybody recommend a piece of software that can do some or all of the above? If necessary we could program a custom solution ourselves (.NET), but I'm sure there must be a program out there that can do the job.
