• Why can't I open a JBoss vfs:/ URL?

  We are upgrading our application from JBoss 4 to JBoss 6. A couple of pieces of our application get delivered to the client in an unusual way: jars are looked up inside of our application and sent to the client from a servlet, where the client extracts them in order to run certain support functions. In JBoss 4 we would look these jars up with the classloader and find a jar:// URL which would be used to read the jar and send its contents to the client. In JBoss 6 when we perform the lookup we get a vfs:/ URL. I understand that this is from the org.jboss.vfs package. Unfortunately when I call openStream() on this URL and read from the stream, I immediately get an EOF (read() returns -1). What gives? Why can't I read the resource this URL refers to? I've tried trying to access the underlying VFS packages to open the file through the JBoss VFS API, but most of the API appears to be private, and I couldn't find a routine to translate from a vfs:/ URL to a VFS VirtualFile object, so I couldn't get anywhere. I can try to find the file on disk within JBoss, but that approach sounds very failure prone on upgrade. Our old approach was to use Java Web Start to distribute the jars to the client and then look them up within Java Web Start's cache to extract them. But that broke on every minor upgrade of Java because the layout of the cache changed.

  Well, I did it.. yup, solved AI. I thought the voice of my fledgling life form would be booming and computery, and I would call it HAL.. But in reality, it sounds like a small japanese girl. I believe I will name "her" Koro . Koro is already asking me what her first task should be. However, some of my fellow AI researchers have warned me that if I go down this path, China may take over the world, as Koro is the only thing holding them back from completely dominating the rest of the world economically. After all, look at what China is doing just making our silverware and toasters... The entire US industrial metal production is gone because toaster factories moved to China! So you good patrons of SO... who have soldiered on with me through so many other programming related questions... I ask you this now... How can Koro help the world without letting small asian men with no fear of losing their peni take over the world?

• Am I fundamentally misunderstanding how Silverlight runs? (debugging issues)

  I've got a vs2010 solution containing an ASP.Net 4 website, and a Silverlight 4 project. The website is linked to the Silverlight project ('Map') and the ClientBin folder contains a Map.xap file. The Map project is very simple. It contains the default App.xaml and App.xaml.cs files. However, I cannot break on any breakpoints set in the MainPage.xaml.cs file (in IE). I have checked the correct settings for Silverlight debugging. And see that Exception I'm throwing in the MainPage constructor? I'm not seeing that either. In fact, nothing I put in there seems to be run at all, but I know the xaml is rendering because I can see my canvas background. What am I not getting here?

• Problem inserting Pygames on a wxPython panel using Boa Constructor

  Hello, im new in Python so im hoping to to get some help to figure out what is going wrong. Im trying to run a Pygames from within wxPython panel (made on Boa Constructor). To do that i followed the instructions on the http://wiki.wxpython.org/IntegratingPyGame but still it isn't working. • Embedded CSS Media Queries Not Working

  I am new to CSS media queries, and I was first trying to get pdf/mp3/mp4 buttons to get centered on this page whenever a mobile device is using it (http://www.mannachurch.org/portfolio-type/recycled-junk/). Keep in mind for that I am using a highly modified wordpress theme. So I tried experimenting to isolate this issue. • Returning JSON object from an ASP.NET page

  Hi, In my particular situation, I have couple of solutions to my problem. I want to find out which one is more feasible. In this case, I can also achieve my goal by returning a JSON object from my server side code, however, I do not know how it is done and what is the best way of doing it. First off, I don't need a full aspx page as I only need a response returned from code. So, do I use web services? handler? or is there any other specific way you people do this? Is this solution feasible? do I build the JSON string using the StringBuilder class and inject that string into the target aspx page? are there any precautions? or things that I should be aware of? I appreciate your ideas. • Processing XML comments in order using SAX & Cyberneko

  I'm using cyberneko to clean and process html documents. I need to be able to process all the comments that occur in the original html documents. I've configured the cyberneko sax parser to process comments like so: parser.setProperty("http://xml.org/sax/properties/lexical-handler", consumer); ...using the same consumer as I am for DOM events. I get a callback for each of the comments: @Override public void comment(char[] arg0, int arg1, int arg2) throws SAXException { System.out.println("COMMENT::: "+new String(arg0, arg1, arg2)); } The problem I have is that all the comments are processed first, out of context of the DOM. i.e. I get a callback for all the comments before the document head, body etc.... What I'd like is for the comment callbacks to occur in the order they occur in the DOM. Edit: what I'm actually trying to do is parse the instructions for IE in the original html, such as: <!--[if lte IE 6]><body class="news ie"><![endif]--> At the moment they are all dropped, I need to include them in the cleaned HTML document.

• ListView setOnItemClickListener in ListFragment not working

  I am developing an app that uses ActionBar tabs to display a list of options through ListFragment. The list (and ListFragment) display without a problem, but the ListView's setOnItemClickListener doesn't seems to work, as nothing happens when an item in the list is clicked.   What should a teen dev do for practical experience? If you want more details , then read on: I learnt programming when I was 9 , with GWBASIC (which I now hate) , which was what was taught @ school. That was done in a month. After that I learnt C++ and relearnt it (as I didn't know of templates and the STL before that) Recently I learnt PHP , SQL and Python. This was around the time I switched over to Ubuntu. I'd always loved the "GNUish" style of software development so I jumped right in. However , most of the projects that I found required extensive knowledge of their existing codebase. So , right now I'm this guy who knows a couple of languages and has written a couple of small programs ... but hasn't gone "big", if you get it. I would love suggestions of projects that are informal and small to medium sized , and do not require much knowledge of the codebase. Also note that I've looked at things like Google Summer of Code and sites like savannah.gnu.org and the first doesn't apply , since I'm still in school and the latter either has infeasable projects , or things that are too hard.

• JPA / Hibernate checks conditions in merge()

  Working with JPA / Hibernate in an OSIV Web environment is driving me mad ;) Following scenario: I have an entity A that is loaded via JPA and has a collection of B entities. Those B entities have a required field. When the user adds a new B to A by pressing a link in the webapp, that required field is not set (since there is no sensible default value). Upon the next http request, the OSIV filter tries to merge the A entity, but this fails as Hibernate complains that the new B has a required field is not set. javax.persistence.PersistenceException: org.hibernate.PropertyValueException: not-null property references a null or transient value Reading the JPA spec, i see no sign that those checks are required in the merge phase (i have no transaction active) I can't keep the collection of B's outside of A and only add them to A when the user presses 'save' (aka entitymanager.persist()) as the place where the save button is does not know about the B's, only about A. Also A and B are only examples, i have similar stuff all over the place .. Any ideas? Do other JPA implementaions behave the same here? Thanks in advance.

• php paging and the use of limit clause

  Imagine you got a 1m record table and you want to limit the search results down to say 10,000 and not more than that. So what do I use for that? Well, the answer is use the limit clause. example select recid from mytable order by recid asc limit 10000 This is going to give me the last 10,000 records entered into this table. So far no paging. But the limit phrase is already in use. That brings to question to the next level. What if I want to page thru this record particular record set 100 recs at a time? Since the limit phrase is already part of the original query, how do I use it again, this time to take care of the paging? If the org. query did not have a limit clause to begin with, I'd adjust it as limit 0,100 and then adjusting it as 100,100 and then 200,100 and so on while the paging takes it course. But at this time, I cannot. You almost think you'd want to use two limit phrases one after the other - which is not not gonna work. limit 10000 limit 0,1000 for sure it would error out. So what's the solution in this particular case?

• SWIG: From Plain C++ to working Wrapper

I've been trying to create a SWIG wrapper for this tiny little C++ class for the better part of 3 hours with no success, so I was hoping one of you out there could lend me a small hand. My steps were Create an example.i file Compile original alongside example_wrap.cxx (no linking) link resulting object files together Create a little java test file (see below) javac all .java files there and run Well steps 4 and 5 have created a host of problems for me, starting with the basic ( library 'example' not found due to not being in java's path ) to the weird ( library not found even unless LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to something, even if it's nothing at all).   I am working on the development of a web based application on codeigniter. Is there any possible scenario where this piece of code would crash Apache? The application runs fine almost everytime, but I think running this piece of code when there is no internet connectivity or very poor internet connectivity (thereby no access to either of the webservices I have used) brings down the server. Something like this happened a few times and I think it was due to loss of internet connectivity but I am not sure what exactly is going on. [ By the way, feel free to use this piece of code. Makes 2 web service calls so don't use to too often in your application. Consider storing the results in a database.]

• Batch insert mode with hibernate and oracle: seems to be dropping back to slow mode silently

  I'm trying to get a batch insert working with Hibernate into Oracle, according to what i've read here: http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/core/3.3/reference/en/html/batch.html , but with my benchmarking it doesn't seem any faster than before. Can anyone suggest a way to prove whether hibernate is using batch mode or not? I hear that there are numerous reasons why it may silently drop into normal mode (eg associations and generated ids) so is there some way to find out why it has gone non-batch? My hibernate.cfg.xml contains this line which i believe is all i need to enable batch mode: <property name="jdbc.batch_size">50</property> My insert code looks like this: List<LogEntry> entries = ..a list of 100 LogEntry data classes... Session sess = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); for(LogEntry e : entries) { sess.save(e); } sess.flush(); sess.clear(); My 'logentry' class has no associations, the only interesting field is the id: @Entity @Table(name="log_entries") public class LogEntry { @Id @GeneratedValue public Long id; ..other fields - strings and ints... However, since it is oracle, i believe the @GeneratedValue will use the sequence generator. And i believe that only the 'identity' generator will stop bulk inserts. So if anyone can explain why it isn't running in batch mode, or how i can find out for sure if it is or isn't in batch mode, or find out why hibernate is silently dropping back to slow mode, i'd be most grateful.   I'm catching all exceptions within: java.lang.Throwable /page.xhtml java.lang.Error /page.xhtml But what If I get eg a hibernate ex: org.hibernate.exception.ConstraintViolationException Do I have to define error-pages for EVERY maybe occuring exception? Can't I just say "catch every exception"? Update Redirect on a 404 works. • MPI Odd/Even Compare-Split Deadlock

  I'm trying to write an MPI version of a program that runs an odd/even compare-split operation on n randomly generated elements. Process 0 should generated the elements and send nlocal of them to the other processes, (keeping the first nlocal for itself). From here, process 0 should print out it's results after running the CompareSplit algorithm. Then, receive the results from the other processes run of the algorithm. Finally, print out the results that it has just received. I have a large chunk of this already done, but I'm getting a deadlock that I can't seem to fix. I would greatly appreciate any hints that people could give me. Here is my code http://pastie.org/3742474 Right now I'm pretty sure that the deadlock is coming from the Send/Recv at lines 134 and 151. I've tried changing the Send to use "tag" instead of myrank for the tag parameter..but when I did that I just keep getting a "MPI_ERR_TAG: invalid tag" for some reason. Obviously I would also run the algorithm within the processors 0 but I took that part out for now, until I figure out what is going wrong. Any help is appreciated.

• CodeIgniter site in subdirectory, htaccess file maybe interfering with htaccess file in main directory?

  In my CodeIgniter site, navigating to any page but the index gives me this error: No input file specified. Googling around, it seems like the cause must have something to do with my .htaccess situation. The way this is set up, and maybe this can eventually change, is that my CI site is in a subdirectory of the main domain. The CI site and main domain each have their own .htaccess files. The CI htacess file is located in the applications folder: <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /SubDomain/index.php?$1 [L] </IfModule> And here's the main htaccess file is two levels up from the CI one, reading thusly: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80 rewriterule ^(.*)$ https://www.MainDomain.org/$1 [r=301,nc] I am afraid these two sets of re-write rules are conflicting with each other and I really have no idea what to do about it. I can alter either htaccess file and would really like to get them working together in peace and harmony. It's also possible, however, that this has nothing whatsoever to do with htaccess. Also, it's hosted on GoDaddy.

So if I inserting "San Francisco", the slug would be "usa-california-san-francisco" public function postXXXXXX($event) { ... $event->getInvoker()->slug = $slug; } The problem is that I'm inserting a new object with no reference to its parent. After it's saved, I insert it to the tree. So I can't change the slug until then. I think a Transaction listener could work, but I'm use there is a better way I'm not seeing right now. thanks!

  I'm playing around with this tutorial that uses Sinatra, backbone.js, and mongodb for the database. It's my first time using mongo. As far as I understand it the app uses both local storage and a database. it has these routes for the database. For example, it has these routes get '/api/:thing' do DB.collection(params[:thing]).find.to_a.map{|t| from_bson_id(t)}.to_json end get '/api/:thing/:id' do from_bson_id(DB.collection(params[:thing]).find_one(to_bson_id(params[:id]))).to_json end post '/api/:thing' do oid = DB.collection(params[:thing]).insert(JSON.parse(request.body.read.to_s)) "{\"_id\": \"#{oid.to_s}\"}" end After turning the server off and then on, I could see in the server getting data from the database routes 127.0.0.1 - - [17/Sep/2012 08:21:58] "GET /api/todos HTTP/1.1" 200 430 0.0033 My question is, how can I check from within the mongo shell whether the data's in the database? I started the mongo shell ./bin/mongo I selected the database 'use mydb' and then looking at the docs (http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Tutorial) I tried commands such as > var cursor = db.things.find(); > while (cursor.hasNext()) printjson(cursor.next()); but they didn't return anything.
