  Looking in Web Analytics I could see several external sites pointing at an old .htm file on my web server that no longer existed, so I thought I would get IIS to redirect to the new .aspx replacement. How hard could it be? This has annoyed me for quite a while today so here is the answer. 1. Install the Http Redirection module - this is not installed by default!! Windows 7 Start->Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features on or off. Internet Information Services->World Wide Web Services->Common Http Features->HTTP Redirection. Windows Server 2008 Start->Administrative Tools->Server Manager. Roles->Web Server (IIS). Role Services->Add Role Services. Common Http Features->HTTP Redirection. 2.   I was scanning my Mac OS X with sophos antivirus and opened the console. I see this over and over again. How do I tell whatever it is to stop trying to launch tuncfg?   I recently migrated my website from xhtml transitional to html5. Specifically so that I could make use of valid block level anchor tags. <a><div /></a>. When running validation I encountered the following error: Bad value publisher for attribute rel on element link: Keyword publisher is not registered. • How to properly remove URL's from Google's index?

  On some of our sites, we now have several thousand pages that dilute our website's keyword density. The website is an MVC site with SEO routing. If I submit a new sitemap with say only the 2000 or so pages that we want indexed, even though navigating to the diluting pages still works, will Google re-index the site with only those 2000 pages, dropping the superfluous ones? For example, I want to keep roughly 2000 of the following: www.mysite.com/some-search-term-1/some-good-keywords www.mysite.com/some-search-term-2/some-more-good-keywords And remove several thousand of the following that have already been indexed. www.mysite.com/some-search-term-xx/some-poor-keywords www.mysite.com/some-search-term-xx/some-poor-more-keywords These pages are not actually "removed" as navigating to these URL's still renders a page. Even though there are potentially hundreds of thousands of pages, I only want say 2000 to be re-indexed and retained. The others removed (without having to do these manually). Thanks.

• Testing php mail() in localhost problem

  Hey guys, recently I just installed msmtp in linux and I even send a mail from the terminal and it worked: echo -e "Subject: Test Mail\r\n\r\nThis is a test mail" |msmtp --debug --from=default -t username@gmail.com But in php, after editing the php.ini file to have this: sendmail_path = '/usr/bin/msmtp -t' and using this piece of code: <?php if ( mail ( 'myemail@gmail.com', 'Test mail from localhost', 'Working Fine.' ) ){ echo 'Mail sent'; } else{ echo 'Error. Please check error log.'; } ?> I get the Mail sent message but don't receive a message in my inbox. Not even in the spam folder.   Hi, I received this spam in my catch-all. As a webmaster of the domain it was sent to, I am really curious what the reason for this mail is. It was sent to a non-existent user "tania" on my domain - here I used mydomain.zzz - what do the sender want to achieve? Since many mail servers have stopped backscattering, not getting a bounce would not mean anything, would it? And if this is off topic, where inb the StackExchange WOULD it be on topic? • Current state of the art for holographic displays?

  In another thread I was asking about independent arcade system development, and partly it was because I'm interested in using available 3D holographic technology for the displays. I saw one which involved a rotating mirror at very high speeds, so that's probably not going to be too feasible (I'd hate to think of what happens when something goes wrong). However, I looked around for videos from trade shows, and I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl0EIngM-RA But information is scarce, and I'm led to believe it's just using mirrors and reflections, and does not convey true 3D depth like the one using rotating mirrors at high speed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKCUGQ-uo8c So yeah, does anyone know if there's something better available today?

• Directing from a 1und1 hosting solution, with urls intact

  I have done this before on GoDaddy without a hitch, but I cannot seem to figure out this particular case. I have a domain space with temporary url http://yogainun.mysubname.com/ and am hosting the domain name that is to be applied to it at 1und1.de. Right now I have set it up so that from the 1und1 domain name hosting the address http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is frame redirected to the subdomain that I just referred to. But this is not what I want. http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/ is to be the domain. With the frame redirect, url's like http://www.yoga-in-unternehmen.de/example-article do not show up. But this is what I want. With godaddy in a similar case, I just turned on DNS and changed the name servers. That worked without problem, but with 1und1 not. Is there something I am missing?

• Latest MapViewer 11g patch released

  Hi,   We are glad to announce that the latest MapViewer 11g patch (version 11.1.1.7.2) has just been uploaded to OTN in the usual place. This is mostly a bug fix release, with several noticeable enhancements to the HTML5 API.   Wow, creating IE Accelerators is superbly easy. If you want to learn how to create one, go here (some MSDN blog) and the MSDN documentation (clearly written). I was fed up of dictionary.com bringing all those popups and the stupid definitions of Google's dictionary. So I decided to scratch my own itch. I randomly stumbled on the site called Wordnik and it provides with all examples plus definitions plus lots more for words and its popup-free (as far as I know). So I decided to write and accelerator. • SEO for replacing blog content, but keeping the same page URL

  This might not have any major impact on the SEO, but basically I have random blog at this URL: http://example.com/blog (not a real URL), that I am removing and replacing with a company blog. I want to use the http://example.com/blog URL address, but I'm not sure how this would effect my SEO since this random blog content that I am removing has the example.com/blog URL prefix. Would I just add a 310 redirect for those old blog articles and leave the basic /blog URL without any redirects?

• Host a subdomain from an IIS7 server on another server

  I am running a network with two server, one running SBS 2008 which hosts a majority of the network services (DNS, DHCP, Exchange, IIS, DC, AD...), including the primary webpage at mydomain.com. The other server is a linux box running an apache web server. I'm trying to set the apache server to host the site site2.mydomain.com. I have changed the DNS settings on the first server so that site2.mydomain.com can be accessed from the internal network, but I cannot access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I have tried using server farms and application request routing cache, as described on this page, http://forums.iis.net/t/1156458.aspx, but I still can't access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I don't have much experience with web servers, I usually just administer local networks, so I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

• Plesk 9 - Client panel access via client domain, not server host name

  I've setup a Plesk 9 vps recently. The plesk admin is accessible at, say, http://superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'm setting up a couple of client domains on the server. I'd like clients to be able to access plesk via a similar url, but instead it would be something like http://inferiorclientdomain.com:8443. This works ok in a sense, but it always redirect the request for inferiorclientdomain.com:8443 to superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'd like the control panel access url to remain on inferiorclientdomain.com. Is that possible? EDIT: System Info. Plesk 9.5.2 on CentOS 5 (Build 95100504.12)

• How to setup up A record for GitHub pages for NearlyFreeSpeech.net

  I own the domain zenstealth.com and I have decided that the easiest way for me to "do" a blog is via GitHub pages and Jekyll, which is already built-in in GitHub pages. I've done that already, and for now I've already setup a CNAME record so that my GitHub pages repo zenstealth.github.com redirects to blog.zenstealth.com. What I want to do is instead of using a sub-domain for the blog, I'd like to make it use the top level domain zenstealth.com. The GitHub Pages instructions say to the set an A record to the ip 207.97.227.245. The problem in NearlyFreeSpeech.NET (let's call it NFSN for short) is that it already already sets A records to files which are hosted directly in NFSN, and I have absolutely no idea on how to override this.

• Ubuntu 13.10. Can't access Internet and unable to install anything

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 I was not able to access the Internet on any program that required it. So I uninstalled Firefox but I could reinstall from the software center so I used the terminal, everything ran smoothly, I told me how much additional space would be used, then it said "Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com /ubuntu/ saucy/main Firefox i386 24.0+build1-0ubuntu1 Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/firefox/firefox_24.0+build1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com' E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?" And with both given possible fixes I also get errors. Please help, it's been like this sense the day the 13.10 update was released
