  I've enabled automatic updates but windows cannot update itself automatically, nor updating via Internet Explorer (by visiting http://www.windowsupdate.com/) works. I get this error message in event log: Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection. What could be wrong? A malware?

  I'm trying to back up some data on an external hard drive and am finding the transfer rate to be unbearably slow. My environment is as follows: Macbook Pro Unibody (late 2008) Windows 7 RC, 64-bit Lacie, rugged 500GB portable hard drive I have tried using a number of methods including simple copying in Explorer, Teracopy, Crashplan, and Windows backup. I am averaging around 1MB/s which seems terribly slow. How do I identify what is the cause of this slow file transfer, and then how do I go about addressing the issue.

I just wanted to double check (and provide a top Google result for people in the future that might have the same issue) that this was a false positive and can be safely right-click ignored.

• Why can't I pull up the taskbar when Chrome is maximized?

  Whenever I maximize Chrome in Windows 8 the auto-hide on my taskbar breaks; moving the mouse to the bottom of my screen will no longer pull up the taskbar. This is really annoying as pressing the Windows key no longer brings up the taskbar. Note that I am launching this through the desktop, not as a metro app. Internet Explorer does not exhibit this behavior, and restoring down fixes it. What's going on here?

  I'm running VS2K8 in Win7 64-bit. I'm logged in as admin and I'm running it as admin, but the program I'm working on fails with access denied when I call a restricted API. If run the program from Explorer with "Run as Administrator" it works. I was under the belief that VS2K8 debugs programs with whatever rights VS2K8 itself is running with. As it stands I can't debug my application due to this and I'm at a loss as to what's going on.

  I'm using cricket QA30 which has a default proxy setting redirect 8080 at wap.mycricket.com which allows me to access http on port 8080 through internet explorer. I would like to access a TCP stream on an arbitrary port, and I think maybe if I get the socks "advanced setting" to work in Control Panel - Internet Options to work I have a shot at it. Doing a little bit of Googling, it seems Safari does have an offline mode like Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera (where you can view cached web pages offline), but I haven't found any way to activate it and just navigating to web pages with no net connection seems not to do it either. So, does Safari even really have an offline mode, and if so, how does one use it?

  how can I fix broken IIS on Windows 7 ? Deinstalling it via "Windows Features" doesn't help. Apparently it doesn't uninstall IIS completely so on my subsequent attempts to install it installer hangs and I can see in Process Explorer that it keeps trying to launch svchost.exe -iis for 10 mins and then gives me error message. Reinstalling whole Windows with all apps would take me another 3 days :/ Please help.
