  • Cannot authenticate a domain user with SQL Server 2008

    I'm new to setting up Domains so I might be missing something simple here... I've installed SQL Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box and I have another WS2008 R2 box acting as the domain controller. I've joined the SQL server to the domain and it seems to be behaving itself fine. I can ping the DC by name and IP address. I created a domain user 'SPSQLAdmin' that I want to use for database access with SharePoint but I can't seem to log on to SQL with this user. SQL complains, saying that the user belongs to an untrusted domain. I've configured the DC to delegate control for any service to the SQL Server but it doesn't improve the situation. What should I try next? Thanks in advance.

  • No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

    Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help.   • Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS Server not working?

    I have a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 hosting a DNS server, exchange 2010 and is a domain controller. One computer on the network (and domain) can ping the server 25% of the time, also when I try to ping it's own hostname it also does not work. However another computer that is on the domain can ping it fine, and another computer on the network but not domain can ping fine as well. The computer that cannot ping the server is setup to use the DNS server running on the server only (secondary dns points to nothing) and it will resolve the hostname of the server to the external IP not internal when the other two computers correctly resolve the internal All 3 computers and server are connected directly into the same switch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

  • How do you set up DNS in Window Server 2008 in a Hyper-V environment?

    I have a laptop running Server 2008 and Hyper-V. I have created a virtual machine that is also running Server 2008, that I used dcpromo to create as a domain controller. I disabled IPv6 because I had no idea how to enter a default address, and I just wanted to make a standalone MOSS dev environment. I have tried every combination of creating a virtual network on the host and then connecting to that in the VM, but I can't get the VM to communicate with the host and vice versa. No pinging, no copy and paste, nothing. Thanks. To update: My VM (which is its own DC) currently does not have a static IP. When I set the IP to static, I could not find anything that would let it talk to the host machine.

  • Switch 302 redirect to 301 with Apache 2 ProxyPass in front of Tomcat 6

    I'm trying to optimise my site for SEO and it seems as though their is a 302 direct in action for the http requests. I'm hosting my app on a Tomcat 6 server which lies behind an Apache 2 server. I use the ProxyPass method (http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/proxy-howto.html) to forward all requests to port 8080 (the port my app is hosted on). I've seen a lot of advice on how to set the redirect type when using the VirtualHost method but none to do with ProxyPass. The app is a Struts app that forwards users on to index.jsp when they hit the base url. Could this also be the issue? I'm grateful for any help on this one! Cheers!

    My Windows 8 machine is going to restart shortly... I have tried a few techniques such as shutdown /a which is not having much luck. Short of pausing the Windows Update service, is there anyway to stop this restart from happening? ---update--- Looks like the "restart" is all talk and no action! The time has gone and I am presented with this: So, it goes along with the top answer here (which I shall shortly accept) --- update again--- It did reset!!! My battery went critical and it turned itself off, I turned it back on (out of suspend) when it was plugged in, I logged in and the first thing it did was automatically restart - closing my open tabs in Chrome :( Oh well...

  • How disable Apple iCal from popping up with every email invite/update?

    My iCal has new behavior (since upgrading to SL). Every time I get an ical attachment in Mail, the iCal app flies up in my face. I don't see any way to turn off this behavior and it's amazingly disruptive when I'm busy with other activities. Help? EDIT: I want iCal to add the invitations, so when I cmd-tab to the app those items are in the queue awaiting approval. What I am hoping to learn is how to stop the popup action forcing the application to become the top-level window.

    I have been using Bugzilla fine on the older 32-bit Windows Home Server and I have now started a migration to the newer Windows Home Server 2011 with a new machine and a fresh Bugzilla install of 3.6.3. All goes well until I try to check out the email action and I get 'Could not perform this operation because the defaulty mail client in not properly installed. Is this a security /firewall issue? I dont know enough about servers to know what to look for, so any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

  • Replacing sick NTP server source and re-synching (with internal time currently 2 minutes late)

    One of the external NTP servers (the primary one--currently) we're using as source seems to not be responding to NTP calls. Unfortunately, on our core router (Cisco 6509), the NTP functionality hasn't switched to the secondary NTP external server as it was expected. As a result, our core router which is pretty much our main internal NTP source is 2 minutes late. I'm planning to fix the external router issue by making the external NTP source be the one currently working. I'm wondering, how much will a 2 minute change affect my users and services? Specially since these days, we're heavily relying on certificate-based authentication. We're a Windows/Cisco shop.     I am setting up a business partner portal in our Sharepoint server. There will be an AD group with permissions limited to viewing and possibly contributing to the specific business partner site and employees of our business partners will have accounts created for them as needed. Now we would like to let our business development group(BDG) have control over the partner accounts. Ideally they should be able to add and delete accounts and change permissions on them. The BDG are not domain admins so we don't want to give them access to the domain controller. We want to create an Infopath form that will allow them to do all this. Is it possible to create and manage AD accounts from within an Infopath form on the sharepoint server? I searched this site and MSDN and can not find anything specifically related to my question.

If I attempt to Replicate Now from the failing domain controller, I receive The following error occurred during the attempt to synchronize the domain controllers: Access is denied. It is between two servers at a remote site. One is Windows 2003 and the other is Windows 2000; the Windows 2000 machines is experiencing the errors. The domain is older OUR_DOMAIN style. Attempts so far: I disabled Kerberos service on the Windows 2000 server and restarted RPC and RPC locater services have expected settings HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Rpc\ClientProtocols missing ncacn_nb_tcp on Windows 20003 server (added) Portqry reports okay Firewall disabled netdom resetpwd (and reboot) on Windows 2000 server.

  • Setting up Kerberos SSO in Windows 2008 network

    We recently introduced Kerberos (SPNEGO) Single Sign-on in our web-portal, and tested it on a Windows network with Windows 2003 domain controller. Now, trying to test it on Windows 2008 R2 controlled network, SSO just doesn't work due to defective tokens. Up to the moment I was pretty sure that there's something wrong about environment and that were NTLM tokens. We double checked IE settings etc, but nothing helped. Then we checked the following settings for both users (logged on a client test-machine, and the one used as a Service Principal): This account supports Kerberos AES 128 bit encryption. This account supports Kerberos AES 256 bit encryption. .. and error message changed to ' GSSException: Failure unspecified at GSS-API level (Mechanism level: Encryption type AES256CTS mode with HMAC SHA1-96 is not supported/enabled) It makes me think that Internet Explorer receives Kerberos tokens at all times, and there's just some configuration missing, or it was ktpass.exe to be incorrectly executed.   • Sorting out mSSD acceleration on a Acer M3-581TG

    I recently purchased a Acer Timeline M3 Ultra, it ships with a 500GB HDD and a 20GB mSSD to use as a cache. First thing I did when I got it was format the drives and install a clean OS (on the HDD, the mSSD has nothing on it) - but now I can't figure out how everything needs to be configured in order to use the mSSD as a cache, it just looks like a standard storage drive. I've poked around in the BIOS and there is a SATA mode setting, but it only has one option (AHCI), most of the documentation I've seen on the subject says that the SATA controller needs to be in RAID mode otherwise 'Acceleration' isn't visible in the Intel SRT menu (which for me, it isn't) I've seen a few things that suggest I just need the correct partition layout, I tried this using fdisk from a Linux LiveCD but got nowhere. Any ideas? The laptop shipped with no recovery media so I'm marginally stumped. I don't have any issue with reformatting again if required.

    We've got several processes that move files across servers - SFTP, FTP, SCP; Windows, Linux, AIX; there is a workflow component (usually require a control file with filenames and hash values to move a batch of related files). The action is often initiated on our servers to get the files, so we need to make sure they're done being written. We have some homegrown scripts to do this, but they don't always work properly, and troubleshooting, maintenance, and log review is not easy this way. There's a lot of servers, and our scripts don't have central logging or a dashboard/console/etc. We're looking into commercial products to do this. Has anyone used MQ File Transfer Edition? Another team in our company is using Aspera, does anyone have any thoughts on that, or other favored products? I have no idea what our budget is for this, yet. Just trying to get a handle on the product space from the perspective of other admins.

  • Error loading operating system WinXP Pro

    So im getting the error "Error loading operating system" when the computer tries to boot to a fresh install of WinXP Pro. To get to this point, I: Shrunk the only partition with Gparted to 33GB Copied the partition to the end of the 200GB drive Enlarged the first one to fill the space Formatted the first partition to NTFS Set the first partition to boot, tagged the latter to hidden, removed boot flag This was done all under Hiren's BootCD. Now this is where it goes down the drain. I installed XP Pro SP1a from its CD, and chose to quick format the partition. Now after the OS was installed, I can't start XP without using the default menu action from Hiren's BootCD. All I am greeted with is the "error loading operating system" message. I tried to use the XP recovery to fixboot, fixmbr and bootcfg /rebuild (dont remember if the command was like this, anyway the 3 suggested commands). This did nothing. What am I missing here?

  • Windows 8, NVIDIA graphics recognition fails

    I just installed Windows 8 Pro OEM 64-bit (clean install) and it won't properly recognize my graphics adapter. When I installed Win8, it automatically installed the BasicDisplay.sys driver dated 6/21/2006. 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247). Hardware - Mobo:MSi G41M-P33 Combo CPU:Intel CoreDuo 6600 Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT *OS* - Windows 8 Pro 64-bit OEM The graphics adapter worked fine in Windows XP. The PC is a generic box, bought locally and its mobo failed recently, so I replaced it with the G41M. Microsoft wouldn't let me re-activate Windows XP with a different mobo, so I installed Win8, which appears to work except as described next. Win8 only partially recognizes the graphics adapter and won't allow NVIDIA latest driver installer to see that it's an NVIDIA card. As a result, OpenGL doesn't work, and this is needed by the software I most use. Other than that the graphics look OK. When I say 'partially recognizes', I mean that via the Control Panel, I can see that the adapter is described as NVIDIA, but the driver remains stuck at Microsoft Basic Display Adapter no matter what I try, including "Update driver..." in adapter properties. Display Screen Resolution Advanced Settings Adapter shows: Adapter Type: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Chip Type: NVIDIA DAC Type: NVIDIA Corporation Bios Information: G27 Board - p381n17 Don't know what this means ... no mention of 9400GT Total Available Graphics Memory: 256 MB Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB In fact the adapter has 512MB on-board video memory. System Video Memory: 0 MB Shared System Memory: 256 MB And Control Panel Device Manager Display adapters just shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. No other graphics adapter, and no unknown device or yellow question mark. What I have tried so far: 1. Cleared CMOS and reset. Updated BIOS and all mobo drivers as follows: 1st I used Driver Reviver to see if any driver updates were required. It found some but I didn't use that to get the drivers. Then I switched to MSi's own mobo driver utility Live Update 5. This also showed the board needed to update several so I used it to fetch the new drivers. After that it showed that everything was up to date and I checked with Driver Reviver again, which also reported no drivers now needed updating. Rebooted. Went to the NVIDIA site to get the latest graphics adapter driver. Their auto-detect "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products" said "The NVIDIA Smart Scan was unable to evaluate your system hardware. Please use Option 1 to manually find drivers for your NVIDIA products." So I downloaded 310.70-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe, which lists 9400 GT under supported products, but when I run it, it says: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." Connected the display to the on-board Intel graphics (G41 Intel Express), removed the NVIDIA card and rebooted, changed to internal graphics in CMOS. Again it installs the MS Basic Display Adapter, and can't properly run my s/w that needs OpenGL. It runs on other machines with Intel Express graphics (WinXP and 7) Shut down and pulled out the power cord. Held start button to discharge all capacitors. Removed and re-inserted NVIDIA adapter in PCI-E slot and made sure properly seated. Connected the monitor to the card, screwed plug to socket. Reconnected power cord. Started and checked in BIOS that Primary Graphics Adapter was set to PCI-E. Started Windows. Uninstalled MS Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager. Screen blanks briefly, reappears. No Graphics adapter entry was then visible in Device Manager. Restarted PC. MS Basic Display Adapter Visible again in Device Manager. Clicked in Device Manager View Show hidden devices. No other graphics adapter appears, no unknown devices. Rebooted. Tried Scan for Hardware changes. None detected. Tried right-click on MS Basic Display Adapter Properties Driver Update Driver... Search automatically. It replied that it had determined driver was up to date. I checked that there were no graphic driver-related entries in Programs and Features that I could delete (none). Searched for any other drivers with nvidia in their name and deleted them, just keeping the 306.97 installer exe file. Did a Windows Update. Ran GPU-Z which shows (main items): Microsoft Basic Display Adapter GPU G72 BIOS 5.72.22.76.88 Device ID 10DE - 01D5 DDR2 Bus Width 32 Bit Memory size 64MB Driver Version nvlddmkm 6.2.9200.16384 (ForceWare 0.00) / Win8 64 NVIDIA SLI Unknown in the drop-down at the foot, "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the only option If I swap hard disks in that machine to one with a Ubuntu 10.4 installation (originally installed on the same PC), lspci shows "VGA compatible controller as NVIDIA Corporation Device 01d5 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])" and "kernel driver in use: nvidia" I'm out of ideas for new things to try and would be really grateful of suggestions.   • MDADM RAID5 array showing as CLEAN FAULTY

    A drive dropped out of my raid 5 array yesterday. It looks like the reason was due to a bad controller so I switched it out and attempted to re-add the drive but mdadm claimed it couldn't do it. So I zerod the superblock and just added the drive normally and left it to resync. When I came to check on the array this morning I was unable to mount it at all and it's now showing as CLEAN FAULTY with two drives missing. The two missing drives are listed as spare and faulty spare. Is there anything I can do in this situation or is the array gone?

  • How to recover from broken file?

    Hello I have a broken file. It was encrypted(by me) and I did get it unencrypted though I can not remember if it is tar or tar.gz. I believe whichever one it is though is corrupted. I've tried both methods and everything else I could think of for what kind of archive format it could be(7z, zip, etc) and it errors out. What is a possible course of action to take here? The files on it are not extremely important though they are irreplaceable. Are there any tools out there for "fixing" tar or tar.gz formats?

  • Ubuntu on an XPS 14 Ultrabook with mSATA cache and 500GB HD - how to partition for dual boot?

    I am getting an XPS 14 ( http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-14-l421x/pd ) and I want to dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu. This thing has a 500GB standard HD and a 32GB mSATA that can be used as cache. Does anyone know how this thing is partitioned? Is the OS installed on the mSATA drive and data is on the big HD? Is there a BIOS controller or maybe even a Windows driver that makes the mSATA drive and 500GB HD appear contiguous? I get the impression that something makes the mSATA be used invisibly as cache, but I can't find any technical documentation how that works. My primary concern here is wrt dual-booting Ubuntu. I want to know if I need to partition the mSATA separately, or the big HD, or just partition the "magic" contiguous disk space that appears available to the OS.

    Hi, I've recently installed a server in colocation, and my server is rebooting every 4.5-5.5 minutes. Regardless of the OS I run, it reboots. I have all ECC memory in the server, so it should correct errors if there is a bad bit in the memory, right? It's weird because it always happens about 4.5-5.5 minutes after bootup. My motherboard is a Supermicro X8DTL-iF. I read on a blog that another person had the problem, and supermicro recommended to do a BIOS update. Is this the right course of action?

  • Long string insertion with sed

    I am trying to use this expression to insert the contents of one text file into another after a give string. This is a simple bash script: TEXT=`cat file1.txt` sed -i "/teststring/a \ $TEXT" file2.txt This returns an error, "sed: -e expression #1, char 37: unknown command: `M'" The issue is in the fact that the contents of file1.txt are actually a private certificate so it's a large amount of text and unusual characters which seems to be causing an issue. If I replace $TEXT with a simple ASCII value it works but when it reads the large content of file1.txt it fails with that error. Is there some way to carry out this action? Is my syntax off with sed or my quote placement wrong?

    After a video has played on YouTube, often there will be a follow up link after the video has finished playing in the form of related videos. I'm looking to implement similar into my HTML5 Video. It would look something like this: At the moment, it seems there is nothing in the W3C spec for this (Links inside HTML5 video). Could anyone advise on a method of achieving? I have 50-100 videos on my site on which I would like to implement. Currently I'm thinking a Javascript callback which initiates the Call to action buttons, though I have a feeling this could get complicated...

  • How to install Active Directory Users and Computers for Windows 2008

    I want to install the administration tools on a Windows Server 2008 (R1) machine. On Windows 2003 you installed adminpak.msi, but I can't find such a file for 2008. Is this a "feature" in Server Manager? If so what is it named? ---UPDATE--- So I drilled into the server Features list and I have "Remote Server Administration Tools" but it only includes File Services, Print Services and Web Server. This is a member server in a domain but not a domain controller. It is Windows 2008 (original) not R2. Still, why can't it run AD users and computers from this machine?
