• How do you get average of sums in SQL (multi-level aggregation)?

  I have a simplified table xx as follows: rdate date rtime time rid integer rsub integer rval integer primary key on (rdate,rtime,rid,rsub) and I want to get the average (across all times) of the sums (across all ids) of the values. By way of a sample table, I have (with consecutive identical values blanked out for readability): rdate rtime rid rsub rval ------------------------------------- 2010-01-01 00.00.00 1 1 10 2 20 2 1 30 2 40 01.00.00 1 1 50 2 60 2 1 70 2 80 02.00.00 1 1 90 2 100 2010-01-02 00.00.00 1 1 999 I can get the sums I want with: select rdate,rtime,rid, sum(rval) as rsum from xx where rdate = '2010-06-01' group by rdate,rtime,rid which gives me: rdate rtime rid rsum ------------------------------- 2010-01-01 00.00.00 1 30 (10+20) 2 70 (30+40) 01.00.00 1 110 (50+60) 2 150 (70+80) 02.00.00 1 190 (90+100) as expected. Now what I want is the query that will also average those values across the time dimension, giving me: rdate rtime ravgsum ---------------------------- 2010-01-01 00.00.00 50 ((30+70)/2) 01.00.00 130 ((110+150)/2) 02.00.00 190 ((190)/1) I'm using DB2 for z/OS but I'd prefer standard SQL if possible.

• ActiveRecord model with datetime stamp with timezone support attribute.

  Rails is great that it will support timezone overall in the application with Time.zone. I need to be able to support the timezone a user selects for a record. The user will be able to select date, time, and timezone for the record and I would like all calculations to be done with respect to the user selected timezone. My question is what is the best practice to handle user selected timezones. The model is using a time_zone_select and datetime_select for two different attributes timezone and scheduled_at. When the model saves, the scheduled_at attribute gets converted to the locally defined Time.zone. When a user goes back to edit the scheduled_at attribute with the datetime_select the datetime is set to the converted Time.zone timezone and not the timezone attribute. Is there a nice way to handle to the conversion to the user selected timezone?

• Chrome Browser: Cookie lost on refresh

  I am experiencing a strange behaviour of my application in Chrome browser (No problem with other browsers). When I refresh a page, the cookie is being sent properly, but intermittently the browser doesn't seem to pass the cookie on some refreshes. • What is the maximum length in seconds to store a value in memcache

  The Google App Engine memcache documentation states that the time parameter of memcache.set() is an "Optional expiration time, either relative number of seconds from current time (up to 1 month), or an absolute Unix epoch time." So I tried to set a value for 30 days, which according to Google is 2 592 000 seconds. However, I highly suspect that this value is too high, because the value was set (memcache.set() returned the value True), but a memcache.get() just after always returned None. Reducing this value to 1 728 000 seconds just worked fine/as expected. I guess that once passed the highest value, the time parameter gets interpreted as an absolute Unix epoch time. That would mean that 2 592 000 seconds got interpreted as "Sat, 31 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT", which is obviously a date in the past... So what is the highest value you can enter that will get interpreted as a number of seconds in the future?

  I have wrote an application that syncs two folders together. The problem with the program is that it stops responding whilst copying files. A quick search of stack-overflow told me I need to use something called a background worker. I have read a few pages on the net about this but find it really hard to understand as I'm pretty new to programming. Below is the code for my application - how can I simply put all of the File.Copy(....) commands into their own background worker (if that's even how it works)? Below is the code for the button click event that runs the sub procedure and the sub procedure I wish to use a background worker on all the File.Copy lines. • Caching view-port based Geo-queries

  I have a web app with a giant Google Map in it. As users pan and zoom around on the map, points are dynamically loaded through AJAX call which include the viewport bounds (NE and SW corner coordinates) and some other assorted parameters. How do I cache these request for points? The problem is that the parameters are highly variable and (worst) not discrete i.e. floats with a lots of decimal places. I'm using ASP.NET-MVC/C#/LINQ2SQL/SQL-Server but the problem is not tied to that platform.   Im writing an ajax web app that uses Comet/Long Polling to keep the webpage up to date, and I noticed in Chrome, it treats the page as if its always loading (icon for the tab keeps spinning). I thought this was normal for Google Chrome + Ajax because even Google Wave had this behaviour. Well today I noticed that Google Wave no longer keeps the loading icon spinning, anyone know how they fixed this? • Using Spotlight as the "database" of an application

  I'm developing an OS X application to organize "things" (as iTunes is to music and iPhoto to photos). Instead of having my own database and index, I'm considering using Spotlight to essentially serve this purpose. Has anyone tried this? Is it wise? The main benefit, as I see it, would be simplicity and avoiding redundancy. It seems a bit wasteful to implement my own index machinery when OS X comes with one built in. I have little experience working with Spotlight, however. From a user's perspective, I do know that it has been slow and imprecise in older versions of OS X. I also have a gut-feeling that since it's aimed at searching the whole filesystem, using it for "local" purposes becomes hackish. Obviously, my applications's index needs to constantly be up-to-date. Can mdimport be used for this?

• Display user name in reference to user id in django template

  I expect this is an easy question. For some reason, I don't have a solution yet. I have an object set from django reversion: version_list. Each object in the set has a user id attached to it. How do I grab the user names that correspond to the user ID's? To try to be clearer, if each object in version_list has a name, date, and user id, how can I join the version_list set with the user table to figure out what user id goes with which name? This is done in the view, or the template?

• Using clojure.contrib functions in slime REPL

  I want to use the functions in the clojure.contrib.trace namespace in slime at the REPL. How can I get slime to load them automatically? A related question, how can I add a specific namespace into a running repl? On the clojure.contrib API it describes usage like this: (ns my-namespace (:require clojure.contrib.trace)) But adding this to my code results in the file being unable to load with an "Unable to resolve symbol" error for any function from the trace package. I use leiningen 'lein swank' to start the ServerSocket and the project.clj file looks like this (defproject test-project "0.1.0" :description "Connect 4 Agent written in Clojure" :dependencies [[org.clojure/clojure "1.2.0-master-SNAPSHOT"] [org.clojure/clojure-contrib "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"]] :dev-dependencies [[leiningen/lein-swank "1.2.0-SNAPSHOT"] [swank-clojure "1.2.0"]]) Everything seems up to date, i.e. 'lein deps' doesn't produce any changes. • Problem with truncation of floating point values in DBSlayer.

  When I run a query through DBslayer http://code.nytimes.com/projects/dbslayer the floating point results are truncated to a total of six digits (plus decimal point and negative sign when needed). { ... "lat":52.2228,"lng":-2.19906, ... } When I run the same query in MySQL, the results are as expected. | 52.22280884 | -2.19906425 | Firstly, am I correct in identifying DBSlayer as the cause of this effect?   Hi People who talk about loggers here never talke about EventLog, I think this is good for windows system. Is it reliable, or I found it dead in some bad morning? Why not logging everything at SQLServer, I am creating E-Commerce website, if SQL server down the website will be down anyway. but I am worry about temporally connection failure, what do u think? Why everyone like files, it can be in great size, too big to handle, or maybe I will create another file when a file is too big, and I can create a file with a date.   Hi guys, I am attempting to display a list of items (the style and controltemplate for these items are defined elsewhere) and i want to be able to add/remove as many as i want to. As i do not have infinite screen realestate I am displaying these in a ListBox control. This is the screen i have to date: What is going to happen is this. When i click the New button, i want the item to appear in the outlined area. So now for the problem: I want, when i click the New... Button, a new item to appear in the ListBox (outlined). Is it possible to do this using XAML? I am trying to work on seperating the business logic from the interface, so if there were some way to acheive this in XAML i would appreciate it. • Gmail rejects emails. Openspf.net fails the tests

  I've got a problem with Gmail. It started after one of our trojan infected PCs sent spam for one day from our IP address. We've fixed the problem, but we got into 3 black lists. We've fixed that, too. But still every time we send an email to Gmail the message is rejected: So I've checked Google Bulk Sender's guide once again and found an error in our SPF record and fixed it. Google says everything should become fine after some time, but this doesn't happen. 3 weeks already passed but we still can't send emails to Gmail. Our MX setup is a bit complex, but not too much: We have a domain name delo-company.com, it has it's own mail @delo-company.com (this one is fine, but the problems are with sub-domain name corp.delo-company.com). Delo-company.com domain has several DNS records for the subdomain: corp A 82.209.198.147 corp MX 20 corp.delo-company.com corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" (I set ~all for testing purposes only, it was -all before that) These records are for our corporate Exchange 2003 server at 82.209.198.147. Its LAN name is s2.corp.delo-company.com so its HELO/EHLO greetings are also s2.corp.delo-company.com. To pass EHLO check we've also created some records in delo-company.com's DNS: s2.corp A 82.209.198.147 s2.corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" As I understand SPF verifications should be passed in this way: Out server s2 connects to MX of the recepient (Rcp.MX): EHLO s2.corp.delo-company.com Rcp.MX says Ok, and makes SPF check of HELO/EHLO. It does NSlookup for s2.corp.delo-company.com and gets the above DNS-records. TXT records says that s2.corp.delo-company.com should be only from IP 82.209.198.147. So it should be passed. Then our s2 server says RCPT FROM: Rcp.MX` server checks it, too. The values are the same so they should also be positive. Maybe there is also a rDNS check, but I'm not sure what is checked HELO or RCPT FROM. Our PTR record for 82.209.198.147 is: 147.198.209.82.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN PTR s2.corp.delo-company.com. To me everything looks fine, but anyway all emails are rejected by Gmail. So, I've checked MXtoolbox.com - it says everything is fine, I passed http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html Python check, I did 25port.com email test.   Hi guys, I am having endless troubles with duplicate entries, so I need to check the database, and if a user has already entered that day, their entry will not be submitted and they will be redirected to a landing page that tells them they have already entered that day, and that they may only enter again tomorrow. The field I would like to check is the id_number field in the database, since each user has a unique id number, so basically, if a user with the same id number submitted on the same date they should be redirected to a landing page, how would I go about doing this?   Hello all, Here's a dumb question which I can't find an answer to: I have a table which contains 20 fields, a few of which are date/time. I am interested in pulling all the fields. I would like to pull the datetime fields using the to_char function but don't want to individually list out all the other fields. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried select *, tochar(dtfield) as dt2 and select tochar(dtfield) as dt2, * and both give errors. Thanks for all your help! JC

• How can I update fontconfig to a newer version in Red Hat 5.3?

  I want to update fontconfig to a newer version but it seems that the OS is still finding the old fontconfig and I need the newer version to build qt. How do I make Red Hat 5.3 see the newer version? I do not know if this helps but when I did a search for fontconfig I found some files in a folder called cache. When I do yum update it tells me everything is up to date but that version is too old and is missing FcFreeTypeQueryFace. Just send me a comment if this is wrong site and ill change it.
