  • How to correctly set the ORACLE_HOME variable on Ubuntu 9.x?

    I have the same problem as listed here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/52239/oracle-lost-sysdba-password although I did not lose the password, I entered it twice in the configure script originally, and then when I went to login (localhost:8080/apex, password not accepted. I don't have anything in the database, I just want to install and use Oracle-XE. I have tried apt-get removing it twice and reinstalling, but if I try to run /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure again and I get "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition is already configured" despite the second time removing any folders I could find for Oracle XE. I tried running sqlplus "/ as sysdba" but all I get is: "Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus Message file sp1.msb not found SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory" I tried setting the variable via export. (also tried set). Tried: "export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/sqlplus" and all the subdirectories of that. Same error every time. What is the ORACLE_HOME supposed to be set to? The only reference I have seen either just say general or say the above up to the version number then "/db_1". I do no thave a db_1. Let me know if need any clarification. Don't understand what I did wrong in this process.

  • SQL Server 2005 - Syncing development/production databases

    I've got a rather large SQL Server 2005 database that is under constant development. Every so often, I either get a new developer or need to deploy wide-scale schema changes to the production server. My main concern is deploying schema + data updates to developer machines from the "master" development copy. Is there some built-in functionality or tools for publishing schema + data in such a fashion? I'd like it to take as little time as possible. Can it be done from within SSMS?   • Unable to launch the asp.net development server because port '80' is in use

    I need to use port 80 for my development server. Before i restart pc, it's still working fine. After that, it pop up the port 80 is in use. The development server able to run if i changed to other port. I've checked using netstat -ano, no program is using it (my iis is using other port and my skype is not using port 80 as well). I also test with telnet localhost 80, it didnt show any failure message, just the screen goes blank...I'm using win xp. Is my visual studio has problem?

    I am getting this error while trying to create a connection pool, on my Oracle database, Oracle 10gR2. java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-12705: Cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified I am able to connect to the database over sqlplus & iSQLPlus client, but when I try to connect using this Java program, I get this error just when the connection pool is to be initialised and it does not initialise the connection pool. Can someone please help me resolving it?   • Accidently overwrote system.dbf - What now?

    I accidentally overwrote system.dbf in /usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/system.dbf Well I did not actually do it accidentally, however I overwrote it because of other failures in the database. And when I try running the following: SQL> shutdown ORA-01109: database not open Database dismounted. ORACLE instance shut down. SQL> startup ORACLE instance started. Total System Global Area 289406976 bytes Fixed Size 1258488 bytes Variable Size 92277768 bytes Database Buffers 192937984 bytes Redo Buffers 2932736 bytes Database mounted. ORA-01589: must use RESETLOGS or NORESETLOGS option for database open Now I want to try to Recover the database because starting it in mounted or standard surely doesn't work. SQL> recover database using backup controlfile; ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors ORA-01110: data file 1: '/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/system.dbf' ORA-01122: database file 1 failed verification check ORA-01110: data file 1: '/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/system.dbf' ORA-01206: file is not part of this database - wrong database id How do I solve this? Is it even possible? My "real" problem was that I ran the /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure and it overwrote my old configuration and probably removed passwords and such so my tables were gone, however I found the mytablespace.dbf so I hope that it is possible to recover? Please shed some light on this.

  • Intellij + GWT 2: Development Mode ignores changes to static content

    The new Development Mode in GWT 2 is awesome, but unfortunately as launched from Intellij IDEA 9, it does not seem to notice changes made to static files such as html, css, etc. It immediately see changes in *.java files, but not the static ones. If I make a change in a static file I need to quite the Development Mode tool and re-launch it. This is painfully slow, and negates much of the point of using dev mode in the first place I assume this is some artifact resulting from the way the Intellij runner launches it- it creates an out/artifacts/project_war_exploded directory with the static content and class files. How can I get Intellij Dev Mode tool to follow changes made to the original static source files?

    Hi, I'm planning to port a couple of games from iPhone/Windows Mobile to the Android platform. The games are written in C++ so I plan to use the NDK with a thin java wrapper. I'm new to the Android platform and need some advice on which phone to buy for development. I suspect like Windows Mobile there is a level of fragmentation with different phones supporting different features (keyboard/ rotation/ screen size/ capacitive touch screen/ etc).     Hi, I am getting this error in my terminal when i execute the command above, Deans-MacBook:depot dean$ rake db:create RAILS_ENV='development' (in /Users/dean/src/RailsBook/depot) Couldn't create database for {"username"=>"root", "adapter"=>"mysql", "database"=>"depot_development", "host"=>"localhost", "password"=>nil}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) In database config file i have the following: development: adapter: mysql database: depot_development username: root password: host: localhost I have the mysql gem installed and now i am unsure on what to do next.   • Rails Action and Fragment Caching during Development?

    I'm just starting to get into Rails caching and am wondering how to test whether or not caching is working in my development environment. I have set these two config variables for both the development (temporarily) and production environments: config.action_controller.perform_caching = true config.action_controller.page_cache_directory = File.join(RAILS_ROOT, 'public', 'cache') And my controller basically looks like this (using the resource_controller gem): class EventsController < Spree::BaseController resource_controller caches_page :index index.response do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @collection.to_xml } end # ... end If I do that, I get these files: public/cache/events.html public/cache/events.xml But when I change caches_page to caches_action, I don't see any generated files and am not sure how to tell if the response has been cached. What do I need to know to know that this is working? I've read the docs and related, the rails caching guides, the railscast, and a few other docs, but I'm still wondering where everything is stored.     Hi, We're experiencing a strange problem with Oracle RAC and McAfee anti-virus. As part of the installation of the Oracle RAC we disable anti virus as directed. We have had our RAC running fine, but when we came to re-enable the AV and reboot we got the BSOD. Abnormal Program Termination (BugCheck, STOP: 0x00000035 (0x8E984678, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS Following the standard process of raising this problem with Microsoft they identify the problem and also a fix. Microsoft talk about too many file filter drivers being present and pushing the DFS upper limit beyond the default size. Upping this value, as per msdn, has no impact. We're able to recover from this BSOD by disabling AV. We don't have the problem if we run the AV service manually whilst the system is up. However, if we make the service automatic we fail to boot.     Hello all: I'm an iPhone developer, but new to web development. I've done some basic HTML websites and made one in iWeb as well. I'm trying to branch out to actual mobile development now, so I checked out Dashcode. Anyway, I'm trying to put a Call Button, Mail Button, and Map Button in horizontal alignment.     I'm interested in finding out exactly which Java annotations people think are most useful during development. This doesn't necessarily have to limited to the core Java API, you may include annotations you found in third party libraries or annotations you've developed yourself (make sure you include a link to the source). I'm really interested in common development tasks rather than knowing why the @ManyToOne(optional=false) in JPA is awesome...   • Android-iPhone single codebase cross development

    Is there a way, apart from using HTML and JavaScript on a web control, to have an (almost) single codebase for an application that should run on iOS and Android? The big issue is of course that they use a different language (Java for Android, Objective-C for iOS) for application development. It would be nice to have some sort of meta-language that will be translated in Java and in Objective-C. What about Flash? Adobe wasn't supposed to release a tool to create flash-based apps in iOS? Update: based on current answers, the best cross platform development tool for iOS and Android seems to be Titanium appcelerator. I suspect that this topic will evolve overtime, so feel free to contribute with new information and comments. Thank you!

  • Refresh backend in GWT development

    I am developing a GWT application that uses EJB and other Java EE 6 technology as the backend. I am currently using the GWT 2.0 plugin for Safari. When I change my GWT client side code and save in my IDE (NetBeans), all that's required is a simple reload in the browser for the changes to become active. That works great! However, often I work on the server-side (the EJBs, GWT server code, etc) and then something in on the GWT client side. Any changes done to the server-side do not appear to incrementally deploy to the Glassfish V3 server. Currently I close the GWT Development Mode application, and then recompile the EJBs, and then go back into GWT Development mode. That is tedious. Any better way of doing this? I tried the "deploy on save" option in NetBeans but it does not seem to do the trick.

    I have a service which works perfectly on the local development server, but once moved to the remote iis7 server, it fails. I've been browsing the service in a browser manually. Here's the steps I've been taking: Open up Service.svc Open up Service.svc?wsdl Open up Service.svc?wsdl0 Open up Service.svc?xsd=xsd0 Step 4. is where it fails. If i browse on the development server it works. If i browse on the iis7 server, I get a connection reset error. Any help appreciated.

  • Good portfolio projects

    Hi, I am a recent graduate and am looking to start a career in web development. Its kind of a catch 22 at the moment as I have a fair bit of programming experience from university but not really in web development and to get a job in web development a portfolio is typically required. So, I am looking to start a building a few application in order to have something to show potential employers. Im more into the backend stuff although am just as comfortable with front end development. Does anyone have any thoughts on some potential projects that would be both relatively quick (as i need to get a job soon!) to build but show off enough programming knowlege / skills to be impressive to employers. At the moment i am also learning to use the zend framework and I would hope to find work using such a framework (mvc). My initial thoughts would be things like a webmail app or maybe a custom CMS. Any ideas would be greatley appreciated.
