python / sqlite - database locked despite large timeouts

Hi, I'm sure I'm missing something pretty obvious, but I can't for the life of me stop my pysqlite scripts crashing out with a database is locked error. I have two scripts, one to load data into the database, and one to read data out, but both will frequently, and instantly, crash depending on what the other is doing with the database at any given time. I've got the timeout on both scripts set to 30 seconds: cx = sqlite.connect("database.sql", timeout=30.0) and think I can see some evidence of the timeouts in that i get what appears to be a timing stamp (e.g 0.12343827e-06 0.1 - and how do I stop that being printed?) dumped occasionally in the middle of my curses formatted output screen, but no delay that ever gets remotely near the 30 second timeout, but still one of the other keeps crashing again and again from this. I'm running RHEL5.4 on a 64 bit 4 cpu HS21 IBM blade, and have heard some mention about issues about multi-threading and am not sure if this might be relevant. Packages in use are sqlite-3.3.6-5 and python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2.1, and upgrading to newer versions outside of RedHat's official provisions is not a great option for me. Possible, but not desirable due to the environment in general. I have had autocommit=1 on previously on both scripts, but have since disabled on both, and am now cx.commit()ing on the inserting script and not committing on the select script. Ultimately as I only ever have one script actually making any modifications, I don't really see why this locking should ever ever happen. I have noticed that this is significantly worse over time when the database has gotten larger. It was recently at 13mb with 3 equal sized tables, which was about 1 day's worth of data. creating a new file has significantly improved this, which seems understandable, but the timeout ultimately just doesn't seem to be being obeyed. JavaScript keeps returning ambigious error

ASP.NET MVC3 - Bug using Javascript

Hey there, I'm trying to use Ajax.BeginForm() to POST A Json result from my controller (I'm using MVC3). When the Json result is called it should be sent to a javascript function and extract the object using "var myObject = content.get_response().get_object();", However it just throws a "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method" when trying to invoke the Ajax POST. ScriptManager duplicates javascript

Hi! I have a usercontrol that can be used in for example a gridview itemtemplate, this means that the control might or might not be on the page at page load. In the case where the control is inside an itemtemplate i will popupate the gridview via asyncronous postbacks (via updatepanels). The control itselfs registrers scriptblocks since it is depending on javascripts. First i used Page.ClientScript.RegistrerClientScriptBlock But this doesn't work on asyncronous postbacks (updatepanels) so i then tried the same using ScriptManager which allows me to registrer scripts on the page after async postbacks. great!. ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock However, ScriptManager (what i know of) does not have the functionallity to see if a script already is on the page, so i will for every postback generate duplicates of the script blocks, this is ofcourse unwanted behaviour. I did a run at Google and found that i can call the Dispose() method of the PageRequestManager can be used, this does work since it clears the scripts and then adding them again (this also solves my issue with removing unused script blocks from removed controls). Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().Dispose() However, ofcourse there is a downside since im posting here :). The Dispose() method disposes the instance on the master page as well which leads to scripts running there will stop to function after an async postback (updateprogress for example). So, is there a way to check if a script already exists on the page using ScriptManager or any other tools, that will prevent me of inserting duplicate scripts? Also, is there a way to remove certain script blocks (when i am removing an item in itemtemplate for example). Big thanks in advance.

Serving static media in django application

I notice that when I reference my java scripts and static image files from my templates, they show up in development, but not from the production server. From development, I access them as such: <img src="/my_proj/media/css/images/collapsed.png" /> but from production, I have to remove the project directory: <img src="/media/css/images/collapsed.png" /> I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong with regard to serving static media. I'm caught between a number of seemingly different options for serving static media in Django. On one hand, it's been recommended that I use django-staticfiles to serve media. On the other I see reference to STATIC_ROOT and STATIC_URL in the documentation (with caveats about use in production). I have small .png files of "plus" and "minus" symbols for use in some of my jQuery scripts. In addition, the scripts themselves need to be referenced. 1) Am I correctly categorizing scripts and site images as static media? 2) What is the best method to access this media (from production)?

Problem with Android emulator

Many of us who use EM CLI to write scripts and automate our daily tasks should not miss out on the new list verb released with Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3.0. The combination of list and Jython based scripting support in EM CLI makes it easier to achieve automation for complex tasks with just a few lines of code. Before I jump into a script, let me highlight the key attributes of the list verb and why it’s simply excellent! 1. Multiple resources under a single verb:A resource can be set of users or targets, etc. Using the list verb, you can retrieve information about a resource from the repository database.Here is an example which retrieves the list of administrators within EM.Standard mode$ emcli list -resource="Administrators" Interactive modeemcli>list(resource="Administrators")The output will be the same as standard mode.Standard mode$ emcli @myAdmin.pyEnter password : ******The output will be the same as standard mode.Contents of myAdmin.py scriptlogin()print list(resource="Administrators",jsonout=False).out()To get a list of all available resources use$ emcli list -helpWith every release of EM, more resources are being added to the list verb. For example, here the column width of user_type is set to 20 and department to 30. $ emcli list -resource=Administrators -columns="USER_NAME,USER_TYPE:20,COST_CENTER,CONTACT,DEPARTMENT:30"This is useful if your terminal is too small or you need to fine tune a list of specific columns for your quick use or improved readability. –colsize This option is used to resize column widths.Here is the same example as above, but using -colsize to define the width of user_type to 20 and department to 30.$ emcli list -resource=Administrators -columns="USER_NAME,USER_TYPE,COST_CENTER,CONTACT,DEPARTMENT" -colsize="USER_TYPE:20,DEPARTMENT:30" The existing standard EMCLI formatting options are also available in list verb. A bind variable is created in the resource and then referenced in the command. For example, this command will list all the default preferred credentials for target type oracle_database.Here is an example$ emcli list -resource="PreferredCredentialsDefault" -bind="TargetType='oracle_database'" -colsize="SetName:15,TargetType:15" You can provide multiple bind variables. To verify if a column is searchable or requires a bind variable, use the –help option. Here is an example:$ emcli list -resource="PreferredCredentialsDefault" -help 4. Secure accessWhen list verb collects the data, it only displays content for which the administrator currently logged into emcli, has access. For example consider this usecase:AdminA has access only to TargetA. AdminA logs into EM CLIExecuting the list verb to get the list of all targets will only show TargetA.5. User defined SQLUsing the –sql option, user defined sql can be executed. The SQL provided in the -sql option is executed as the EM user MGMT_VIEW, which has read-only access to the EM published MGMT$ database views in the SYSMAN schema. To get the list of EM published MGMT$ database views, go to the Extensibility Programmer's Reference book in EM documentation. There is a chapter about Using Management Repository Views. It’s always recommended to reference the documentation for the supported MGMT$ database views. Consider you are using the MGMT$ABC view which is not in the chapter. During upgrade, it is possible, since the view was not in the book and not supported, it is likely the view might undergo a change in its structure or the data in it. Using a supported view ensures that your scripts using -sql will continue working after upgrade.Here’s an example $ emcli list -sql='select * from mgmt$target' 6. JSON output support JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) enables data to be displayed in a collection of name/value pairs. There is lot of reading material about JSON on line for more information.As an example, we had a requirement where an EM administrator had many 11.2 databases in their test environment and the developers had requested an Administrator to change the lifecycle status from Test to Production which meant the admin had to go to the EM “All targets” page and identify the set of 11.2 databases and then to go into each target database page and manually changes the property to Production. Sounds easy to say, but this Administrator had numerous targets and this task is repeated for every release cycle.We told him there is an easier way to do this with a script and he can reuse the script whenever anyone wanted to change a set of targets to a different Lifecycle status. Here is a jython script which uses list and JSON to change all 11.2 database target’s LifeCycle Property value.If you are new to scripting and Jython, I would suggest visiting the basic chapters in any Jython tutorials. I could not upload the file with .py extension so you need to rename the file to myScript.py before executing it using emcli.A line by line explanation for beginners: Line 1 Imports the emcli verbs as functions 2 search_list is a variable to pass to the search option in list verb. I am using escape character for the single quotes. In list verb to pass more than one value for the same option, you should define as above comma separated values, surrounded by square brackets. 3 This is an “if” condition to ensure the user does provide two arguments with the script, else in line #15, it prints an error message. 4 Logging into EM. You can remove this if you have setup emcli with autologin. For more details about setup and autologin, please go the EM CLI book in EM documentation. 5 l_prop_val_to_set is another variable. This is the property value to be set. Remember we are changing the value from Test to Production. The benefit of this variable is you can reuse the script to change the property value from and to any other values. 6 Here the output of the list verb is stored in l_targets. In the list verb I am passing the resource as TargetProperties, search as the search_list variable and I only need these three columns – target_name, target_type and property_name. I don’t need the other columns for my task. 7 This is a for loop. The data in l_targets is available in JSON format. Using the for loop, each pair will now be available in the ‘target’ variable. 8 t_pn is the “LifeCycle Status” variable. If required, I can have this also as an input and then use my script to change any target property. In this example, I just wanted to change the “LifeCycle Status”. 9 This a message informing the user the script is setting the property value for dbxyz. 10 This line shows the set_target_property_value verb which sets the value using the property_records option. Once it is set for a target pair, it moves to the next one. In my example, I am just showing three dbs, but the real use is when you have 20 or 50 targets. The script is executed as:$ emcli @myScript.py subin Production The recommendation is to first test the scripts before running it on a production system. How can I find the approximate daily traffic of a site which I don't own?

I want to find the approximate daily traffic of a site which isn't ours, and the site is located in other country than US (in Greece - hence no Quantcast or Compete.com afaik) and it doesn't use Google Ads (hence no Google Ad Planner). I know about Alexa but the site(s) has/have relatively low traffic and the Alexa's rank isn't very useful (same stands to Google Trends). Or perhaps I should look more at Alexa's data? Any other ideas? PS: I looked before posting here and here. No luck.

Online Accounts auth over and over again without success

I just added my Google account to the "Online Accounts" in Gnome. Before my last restart the account couldn't be added for unknown reason. I authorized Gnome access to my Google Account, the window closed and nothing happened. Now I authorized Ubuntu access to my Google Account which worked well: But I can not open the Gnome Online Accounts even when I delete every online account: It's icon show up that it is loading in the dash but then suddenly disappears without any message. How to debug that? What can I do?

How Does One Make a Sitemap for a Flex Website?

Hi, I've got a Flex website and I'm not sure how to make a sitemap for it. For a standard HTML page, sitemaps are straight forward. As Flex sites use a "pageless" architecture, I'm not sure what I should do. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. UPDATE: As I understand it, Google doesn't look at anything after the # in a URL. So in a deeplinked Flex site, Google wouldn't see the second page-- where it reads view=12 in the sample sitemap below. Or does Google handle sitemaps differently? Should I go ahead and make a sitemap with all of the deeplinked URLS: http://brainpinata.com/#view=12, http://brainpinata.com/#view=4, etc. http://www.brainpinata.com/ 2010-12-01 weekly 1.0 http://brainpinata.com/#view=12 2010-12-01 weekly 1.0 Thank you. -Laxmidi

Tips on googling for sugar

I have a question up on SO I am a little embarassed I can't just google: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13734664/groovy-variables-in-method-names-with-double-question-marks The problem is google seems to chuck any terms that are just punctuation, so queries like these: .findBy?? .and?? groovy '??' Are coming out the same as these: findBy and groovy I have had this problem before when I didn't know the name of the elvis operator, and countless other times (probably happened first time I saw an infix '%' mod too if I had to guess). Is there a resource for syntax sugar lookups? Some way to force google or a different search engine to not ignore my funky punctuation?

Lynx "Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host."

I'm pretty new to Ubuntu server. I'm running Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS Release: 12.04 I have installed Lynx via sudo apt-get install lynx everything installed fine but when I try to connect to a website it just seems to time out. When I run lynx google.com it goes to a blank screen with a blue line at the bottom. There is yellow text on the line which says "Making HTTP connection to google.com" but it just sits there. Eventually after 5 - 6 minutes it just goes back to the normal terminal window If I run the below on its own lynx I get the same blue line with the same text "Making HTTP connection to google.com" but after 30 seconds or so it briefly turns to a red line with "alert!: lynx unable to connect to remote host" written on it. I have installed lynx locally and it works fine. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it true that quickly closing a webpage opened from a search engine result can hurt the site's ranking?

My web designer recently told me that I need to be careful not to Google for my business' website, click on its search result link, then quickly close the page (or click back) too many times. He says "Google knows" that I didn't stay on the page, and could penalize my site for having a high click-through rate if it happens too much (it was something along those lines- I forget the exact wording). Apparently, it could look like the behavior of a visitor who was not interested in what they found (hence the alleged detrimental effect on the site's search ranking). This sounds hard to believe to me because I would not have thought any information is transmitted which tells Google (or anyone, for that matter) whether or not a website is still open in a browser (in my case Firefox v25.0). Could there possibly be any truth to this? If not, why might he have come to this conclusion? Is there some click-tracking or similar technology employed by search engines which does something similar? Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts.

We have a website which we want to show adverts in - However, these are custom adverts uploaded by the webmaster, not the Google adverts, or any adverts the network chooses. Ideally, there would be both options. We were considering developing our own advert-management system, but looking at the big picture, it might be better to consider other alternatives. Website is currently developed in C# / ASP.Net (Web Forms) Are there any recommendations to some open-source delivery networks and/or external hosted advert delivery networks? Personally I've used Google's DFP, however sometimes it is not so easy to get a Google AdSense account approved, especially while developing a new website and it not yet being launched. Not sure if this is the best place to ask this kind of question!

Before optimization : Google PageSpeed Insights score : 53/100 Web Page Performance Test : 55/100 (First View : 10.710s, Repeat view : 6.387s ) Yahoo Overall performance score : 68 Stage 1 After optimization : Google PageSpeed Insights score : 88/100 Web Page Performance Test : 88/100 (First View : 6.733s, Repeat view : 1.908s ) Yahoo Overall performance score : 80 My question is ? Am i doing correct way ? What is the best way of benchmark for speed optimization ? Is there any standard ? Is there any much better tool for analyzing speed ?

What percentage of revenue would be fair for app stores to take? [closed]

Apple takes 30% of revenue from app sales on the iPhone app store. Now Apple does the same with the Mac app store. Google also takes a 30% cut in the Android Market. These seem pretty steep. What percentage do you think would be fair and good for both you as a developer/vendor and Apple/Google? What's a happier middle ground? 20%? If the answer you give is less than 30% but you are selling apps in the app store or android market, please explain why you are willing to, and what benefits Apple and Google would see from reducing their cuts.

DNS MX and NS entries

I was wondering about my domain and if next is afordable. First of all this is my "architecture": Domain registration at GoDaddy.com Hosting at Dreamhost mail at google apps Until now I setted up the google apps MX entries in my domain through the GoDaddy manager, but now what I want is to set up the hosting I have hired from Dreamhost. I understand that all I have to do is to setup next Dreamhost NS entries into the GoDaddy domain manager: NS1.Dreamhost.COM. 66.33.206.206 NS2.Dreamhost.COM. 208.96.10.221 NS3.Dreamhost.COM. 66.33.216.216 My question is, will my mail keep working right as soon as the MX entries I already setup into the GoDaddy are the Google Apps ones?
