  • GWT with spring security not working on app engine live server.

    I configured gwt with spring and spring security that works fine on local development server on google app engine.   • Apt-Get Update: failure to fetch; can't connect to any sources

    I realize there are dozens of "apt-get update: failure to fetch" questions (I read through all I could find), but my present circumstance is unique to 12.04 and it affects all sources; not just launchpad. Additionally, I've tried several different servers in Europe and the U.S. as well as the "main server" (wherever that is) and they all yield the same result: I can't connect to any software sources. Additionally, I'm fairly certain the problem stems from the upgrade from 11.10-12.04 I performed this morning, as updates worked immediately before. Updates from the Update Manager worked fine and I could download some things (mutter) from the Software Center without incident, which makes me think I can connect to some subset of the Ubuntu servers (however, several other Ubuntu servers--like extras--and some canonical servers are listed as 'unable to connect').   • 12.04: Apt-Get Update: failure to fetch; can't connect to any sources

    I realize there are dozens of "apt-get update: failure to fetch" questions (I read through all I could find), but my present circumstance is unique to 12.04 and it affects all sources; not just launchpad. Additionally, I've tried several different servers in Europe and the U.S. as well as the "main server" (wherever that is) and they all yield the same result: I can't connect to any software sources. Additionally, I'm fairly certain the problem stems from the upgrade from 11.10-12.04 I performed this morning, as updates worked immediately before. Updates from the Update Manager worked fine and I could download some things (mutter) from the Software Center without incident, which makes me think I can connect to some subset of the Ubuntu servers (however, several other Ubuntu servers--like extras--and some canonical servers are listed as 'unable to connect').     Spanish: Tengo un problema al tratar de instalar Age of Mythology Gold Edition (v 1.03). Al iniciarle con el Wine (1.3.28) en mi Ubuntu 11.10, y después de ingresar el serial y pulsar Siguiente, me sale un error "No se puede cargar PidGen.dll", y se regresa a la ventana anterior. En Configurar Wine, y en la pestaña Librerías le añadí el archivo DLL que me pide pero todo sigue igual. He intentado todo para que se instale pero no funciona. También he intentado instalarlo en una maquina virtual de VMware Workstation 8.0.1 con Microsoft Windows XP SP3 y me sale un error de compatibilidad con la tarjeta de vídeo: "Tarjeta de vídeo 0: vmx_fb.dll VMware SVGA II Vendor(0x15AD) Device(0x405)" y se cierra el Age of Mythology. Me parece que la solución en este caso seria aumentar la cantidad de vídeo que pone a disposición el VMware a la maquina virtual o un driver para esta tarjeta, pero no se como hacer eso. O tal vez alguien sabe la manera de que mi tarjeta de vídeo que tiene mi computadora se use también para VMware o destinar parte de la memoria del vídeo a la maquina virtual. He buscado en varios sitios, pero ninguno soluciona mi problema. Por favor, si alguien ya encontró la respuesta, que responda a esta pregunta, y de antemano gracias.   • How can I re-encode H.264 video with minimal quality loss?

    I have a lot of MPEG-TS files (.TS container but H.264 video) and playback is fine except that when you skip forward/backward or fast forward it's very sluggish and gets pixelated, etc. I've been trying to do research and I'm guessing that they were encoding with very few reference blocks (ie. it's a capture from a DVB-S satellite stream). When I re-encode them with Handbrake (.MP4 container) they play very, very good and seeking in the video is instant, etc, etc. Is it possible to transcode/re-encode my MPEG-TS files with minimal quality loss? If so, what is my best bet? They are each about 2 Mbps (ie. 2 GB per hour) but I don't want to re-encode them if "minimal quality loss" requires 10+ GB per file. I'm hoping to keep the video are the same size. Can anybody give me any advice?

  • Any reason to prefer video adapter with two DVI ports versus one DVI/one VGA for DVI/VGA optional dual monitors?

    I am looking to buy a new video card to power two identical monitors. The monitors came with both DVI and VGA cables, so I am able to use either. My current video card has two DVI ports on the back, so I have both monitors connected via DVI at present. I have noticed that many modern video cards have a DVI/VGA/HDMI port trio and that cards with two DVI ports seem somewhat more scarce. Essentially, I have more options available to me for purchasing cards with a DVI/VGA/HDMI trio than with a DVI/DVI duo. My question is, are there any sound reasons to go to the extra effort of finding a card with two DVI ports versus simply running one of my monitors through a DVI and one through a VGA on a DVI/VGA/HDMI card? Quality differences? Any variety of image asymmetry? Configuration difficulties (I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu)? Anything else?

    Because of a quite noisy fan of my HD6700 I was wondering, if I could fully disable my video card through BIOS or even some Software/Windows. Switching to Intel I7 2600 internal video helped already with the noise, but it would be great to have the HD6700 only build in, but not activated/powered. So that the fan could stay compleatly off. Of course, I could just remove the video card, but I would like to avoid that. Is there any way? My Mainboard is an ASUS P8H67-M Pro, with Intel I7 2600 and ATI HD6500

    I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) and I'm running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) natively (i.e., with just Windows installed and no OSX or boot camp) on it. If I buy an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 video card, will it work or do I have to buy a card that is Mac-specific (e.g., GeForce GTX 285 'for Mac')? Also, more generally, will Windows video cards work on Intel Macs running Windows (in case I pick a cheaper card)? I can't tell if it matters that a Mac does not have a bios. I searched other boards and I gathered that video cards would work fine because Windows has the proper drivers for them and OSX doesn't and not having the BIOS doesn't make a difference. I found one thread on here that seemed to indicate that as well, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

    Google recently announced that they will no longer support older browsers on Aug 1st: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13639875 http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/our-plans-to-support-modern-browsers.html For this reason, soon Google Apps will only support modern browsers. Beginning August 1st, we’ll support the current and prior major release of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time a new version is released, we’ll begin supporting the update and stop supporting the third-oldest version. There is nothing worse than looking at the patching of code that takes place to support older browsers. If we could all move towards a standards only web (I'm looking at you IE9) then surely we could spend more time programming good web apps and less trying to make them run equally on terrible non standards compliant older browsers. So when can the rest of us expect to be able to tell our clients that we no longer support older browsers? Because it seems that large corporates will continue to run older browsers and even if google chrome frame can be installed without admin privileges (it's coming soon, currently in beta) we can't expect all users to be motivated to do this. I appreciate any thoughts.

    I have an ASUS ENGT440/DI1GD5 video adapter which has three output ports: D-Sub (HD-15), DVI and HDMI. I am using both the D-Sub and DVI ports, but my main monitor is connected to the DVI output. Everything works fine except for which monitor is designated the console during boot. The video adapter seems to prefer the D-Sub output for the console. When both the VGA and DVI monitors are connected, then the VGA monitor always becomes the console which displays the motherboard logo, POST information and booting progress. When only the DVI monitor is connected, then it becomes the console as desired. How do I make the video adapter always use the DVI output (instead of the VGA port) for the console while booting?

  • Should I be concerned that I can't program very fast without Google? [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Google is good or bad for programmer? I'm currently in college to be a software engineer, and one of the main principles taught to us is how to learn for ourselves, and how to search the web when we have a doubt. This leads to a proactive attitude - when I need something, I go get it. Recently, I started wondering how much development would I be able to do without internet access and the answer bugged me quite a bit. I know the concept of the languages and how to use them, but I was amazed by how "slow" things were without having the Google to help in the development. Most of the problems I have are related to specific syntax. For example, reading and writing to a file in Java. I have done this about a dozen times in my life, yet every time I need to do it, I end up googling "read file java" and refreshing my memory. I completely understand the code and fully understand what it does, but I am sure that without Google it would take me a few tries to get the code correct. Is this normal? Should I be worried and try to change something in my programming behaviour?
