  Instead of just letting your application crash, you can attach a method to the DispatcherUnhandledExceptionEventHandler and one to the AppDomain.Current.UnhandledException.  You wire these up in the code behind of your application which by default is App.xaml.cs.  You can log these errors or throw up a message Don Box and tell the user what happened.  Then you shut down the app gracefully.  You shut it down because something bad happened that you weren’t expecting and at this point there is no guarantee as to the state of the stack or memory or anything really.  All bets are off. If, on the other hand, the method for the UnhandledException is empty and the method for the DispatcherUnhandledEventHandler ends up in a call to a method called LogError() and the LogError() method is FUCKING EMPTY, and you just swallow the exceptions and keep on running, then, not so much.  I spent nearly a day trying to track down a bug that would have been obvious had something been logged or if it just crashed.  It’s my own fault I suppose.  I knew these were hooked up.  I just never suspected that there wouldn’t be any implementation at all.  Live and learn. • Windows Server 2012 Metro shortcut icons do not show for other users

  I have installed SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 on my Windows Server 2012 machine using a dedicated domain install account. When I log into the same machine with a user account, all the icons for these applications are missing! I can still access the applications by finding them in 'Program Files', however it is very annoying. (For example, I'm not exactly sure where the SharePoint PowerShell is located, and frankly I don't want to know either) In previous versions of Windows Server, the Icons always showed up in the Start Menu. Does anyone know how I can copy the shortcuts in one account to another?

  If you experience sequence of errors below with BizTalk HL7 MLLP receive ports you may need to request a hotfix from Microsoft. Knowledge base article number is 2454887 but it’s still not available on the KB site. The hotfix is recently released and you may need to open support ticket to get to it. It requires three other hotfixes installed: ·         970492 (DASM 3.7.502.2) ·         973909 (additional ACK codes) ·         981442 (Microsoft.solutions.btahl7.mllp.dll 3.7.509.2) If the exceptions below repeatedly appear in the event log you most likely would be helped by the hotfix: Fatal error encountered in 2XDasm. Exception information is Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'CEventingReadStream'. There was a failure executing the receive pipeline: "BTAHL72XPipelines.BTAHL72XReceivePipeline, BTAHL72XPipelines, Version=1.3.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Source: "BTAHL7 2.X Disassembler" Receive Port: "ReceivePortName" URI: "IPAddress:portNumber" Reason: Cannot access a disposed object. • Error with FTP since binding via httpcfg

  I was in a similar posistion to this question and bound two IP addresses using httpcfg. Since doing this ftp does not seem to be working on IIS6 in Windows Server 2003. Any ideas what could be wrong? Update: I can see a directory listing if I connect via the inbuilt commandline ftp client in wondows vista. If I try to connect via a windows explorer I start in the incorrect folder and no files are listed just directories.

• new cacti installation on ubuntu 12.04 64bit not graphing any data

  Hey guys i just installed cacti on a ubuntu 12.04 server and am having issues with any data showing up on my graphs. If i snmpwalk the certain OID it works. I have tailing on the cacti.log file and i see it polling the values correctly but nothing ever graphs. Is there anything i can check with regards to snmp or something in cacti that may be causing this to not work? I have already checked in my php.ini and have set the timezone, someone was mentioning that may cause issues.

  We have a Cisco PIX 515 firewall and I would like to set up a simple logging that would give us a traffic breakdown for billing by: source destination protocol port size time PIX is plugged into Catalyst 2970 and I was told that the best thing since sliced bread for logging is to get Netflow and get Catalyst to log. My concern, however, (besides the Netflow cost) is that I really don't want to "listen" to the internal noise and all I'm interested in are the external traffic stats above for billing and analysis purposes. What would be the simplest and the easiest solution? Cheers George

• Rip authedicatation from LDAP to Local

  We are taking a small portion of out network offline, and running a separate network using that portion. (By small portion I mean 2 servers, that will be connected to 30 odd boxs that aren't usually part of our network, and don't need to authenicate) I intend to create a VM on one of the servers to provide general user services, and IRC server, remote shell etc. And I would like the users to be able to use there usual server log in details. Problem is the LDAP server that normally checks those details is not one of the severs. So I need to be able to some how take their details off LDAP and put them on the the server that is coming. One suggestion I had was to set a LDAP server on the VM locally, and clone the LDAP database onto it (using something called slapcat) is this the best way? Or can I I change the LDAP data into local authentication data?

• Apache proxy is modifying the HTTP status code

  I am using Apache as a proxy frontend for a Java web application, which is deployed on WebSphere. The web application is using custom status codes (55x) to signal specific errors to the clients. When accessing the web application directly through the WebSphere HTTP listener, everything works as expected, but when these requests are proxied through an Apache load balancer, the status codes are modified by Apache and replaced with a generic 500 error code (internal server error). In Apache's access.log, the correct status code is logged: <IP> - - [11/Nov/2011:17:24:53 +0100] "POST <URL> HTTP/1.1" 551 36 But the actual response received by the client starts like this (logged with tcpdump): HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error ... Followed by the real status code in the response content: ... Error 551: Berichteter Fehler: 551 ... Is there an obvious reason for this behaviour or does someone have a suggestion on how to modify the Apache configuration to forward the "real" status code instead of 500?

• Strange problem with Exchange client connection

  I've got a strange problem with an Exchange 2007 server running on SBS 2008. It's been working fine for users for the last 5 months, then 5 days ago they started getting a problem where Outlook would popup a window asking for credentials. If the user enters there credentials it pops up again and again, however if the user cancels the box it goes away and outlook continues to work fine. These clients all connect using Outlook Anywhere, and OWA access is also working fine. I had thought this message box may have been to do with other POP or IMAP accounts being configured in Outlook, but it's not the case. I have re-configured Outlook Anywhere on the server but to no avail. Using the RPC diagnostic tool in Outlook shows no problems. There are no errors showing in the event log. The server seems to be running fine, so to me this seems like either a client, or an RPC over HTTP issue, but I'm not getting anywhere finding the cause, any help is appreciated!

  I have set my auditd rules to log when the system time is changed However, our servers are VMs and thus have problems with the time drifting out. We needed to solve this issue so we used a VMware tool to regularly synchronize the time. • How to restrict user to a particular folder in CentOS 6?

  I will need to create users so developers can log in and clone/pull/push changes/repositories from a github like platform. I've managed to add a user (using the root) to this CentOS machine; I now have this line in /etc/passwd: chris:x:32008:32010::/home/chris/public_html:/bin/bash ..and this in /etc/shadow: chris:$1$ruUeLtTu$onAY2hdu1J.UmHajEIlmR.:15385:0:99999:7::: I am able to SSH the server, I have permission to create a folder and I guess that should be enough. But I am able to see other files and folders outside public_html. How can I actually restrict the user to a particular directory so he can't "cd out" of his folder? • How do I silence strace's message "[ Process PID=15733 runs in 64 bit mode. ]" ?

  I'm using memoize.py, but strace keeps injecting the following into the program output each time a process is executed: [ Process PID=15733 runs in 64 bit mode. ] or [ Process PID=16503 runs in 32 bit mode. ] How can I silence strace such that it doesn't inject these statements into the log file? At the very least, I'd like these statements to only go into the output file that memoize.py is instructing strace to use. It's already telling strace to put its output into a specific file ithrough arguments -o /tmp/OUTFILE. Note that strace is being called with the -f parameter to follow child processes.

  Hi, I'm administrating servers running IIS 6, hosting a website on ASP.NET 2.0. Yesterday I installed .Net framework 3.5, and all my user authentication system was lost. Users can't log in, because their password arn't getting authenticated, maybe because the hash function has changed in 3.5??? I can't really get to the code, but I know it uses an extention called CodeSmith. Do you know of any break my upgrade the 3.5 ugrade could couse? Please help. Thanks.

The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

• How to get OpenSSH to use ksshaskpass under KDE?

  When using a GNOME desktop on Ubuntu, if I use OpenSSH client to connect to another computer (running from the gnome-terminal), I get a single graphic popup asking for my private key's pass-phrase. After that I no longer need to enter my pass-phrase as it is cached by the SSH agent. Under KDE it doesn't work like that - when I start ssh from konsole, I get a text prompt for my pass-phrase every single time, even though ssh-agent is running. If I run ssh-add from the terminal then I can enter my pass-phrase on the terminal and it will be stored by ssh-agent and I won't get any more pass-phrase prompts, while if I run ssh-add the KRunner graphical command line ("Run" dialog) then I get a graphical prompt with the same behavior. The problem is I have to remember running ssh-add every time I log in to the desktop. How can I get ssh to behave under KDE, the same as it does on GNOME - the first time the pass-phrase is needed, pop up a graphical dialog and store the pass-phrase in the agent. I've installed ksshaskpass, but that didn't change anything.

  We have an Hylafax 5.2.5 CentOS 5 installation hosted inside a Xen virtual machine. It works quite well, but now I'm in the process of upgrading/migrating it to a KVM virtual machine running Ubuntu 10.04 and Hylafax 5.5.1 (compiled from source using http://sourceforge.net/projects/hylafax/files/hylafax%20debian%20build%20files/ ) The problem I'm having is that - while receiving works fine - sending faxes is extremely unreliable, I get lots of "No response to MPS repeated 3 tries", or "Failure to transmit clean ECM image data." The line, modem and configuration files I'm using are the same as before, so I thought that it could be a KVM scheduling issue, but even setting cpu_shares to 10240 instead of 1024 doesn't change a thing... • How to dump remote database without mysqldump?

  I want to dump the database on my remotely hosted site in regular intervals using a shell script. Unfortunately the server is locked down pretty tight, has no mysqldump installed, binary files can't be executed by normal users/in home directories (so I can't "install" it myself) and the database lives on a separate server, so I can't grab the files directly. The only thing I can do is log into the webserver via SSH and establish a connection to the database server using the mysql command line client. How can I dump the contents to a file a la mysqldump in SQL format? Bonus: If possible, how can I dump the contents directly to my end of the SSH connection?

• SharePoint 2010 not seeing Active Directory users

  I'm pretty new to Active Directory and SharePoint but I was given to understand they are supposed to play well together. Now I have successfully set up AD with multiple user accounts that work on any member computer. I have also successfully installed SharePoint 2010 Server on an AD machine. Both the AD server and SharePoint servers are on separate machines (VMs running on ESXi to be precise). I can only log on with user accounts I create on the local server. Furthermore the user browser thing for adding users will only see local users. I've followed the advice here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262350.aspx#section2 for Classic authentication and also NTLM claims based authentication but to no avail. Is there something fundamental I am getting wrong here? I'd be really thankful for any help you can lend me; I've been googling and scratching my head for a couple of days now. P

• 8021x wireless clients auto connect prior to user login

  I am using a 2008 r2 dc that also performs Radius (NPS), I also have a 2008 r2 certificate authority which is giving out certificates. The computers are getting the certificate and when a user logs into the device (that has previously logged in) gets put on the correct VLAN (according to there user access). However I cant get the computers to join the wireless network prior to logging in, so that they can log in with their domain accounts and authenticate through the wireless. The basic setup is Computer gets group policy which tells it to get a certificate the computer then has a seperate vlan to join just as a computer account however the wireless computer wont connect through that vlan. (this vlan allows login information only then once the users credentials are verified it puts them onto another VLAN). So I am trying to work out why the notebook wont auto connect to the wireless network as a computer. Thanks
