  • How do you deploy your Rails application?

    Do you upload your rail application to your host via FTP first? I'm currently using Passenger and Capistrano. If I do "cap deploy" in my local machine then I think Capistrano should upload my rail application to my host, right? Someone from my host is saying that I need to run "cap deploy" in server. I think it doesn't make sense.

If yes, what is the best way to do it?     I have a workspace with which I have 5 applications based on same schema. Now I want to have a main page from where I could call main pages of all these applications. I used this syntax to call home page in another application but to no avail f?p=4000:4150:&APP_SESSION. Where 4000:4150 are the values for the application and the page I want to display. Interpreted languages like PHP or Ruby have the advantage that the configuration is just code that is executed. In .net, doing stuff in code requires a redeployment, which defeats the purpose. Now, before I build my own web.config replacement based on Boo or PowerShell I wanted to know if there is an existing one?

  • Why don't web browsers have built in validators?

    As far as I know there is no web browser with built in validators for HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Developing web pages without validation is like using a compiler that doesn't do syntax analysis. Even Firefox with its excellent plugins aimed at developers like Firebug lacks plugins for CSS and JavaScript validation. Wouldn't it be useful to have these plugins? Am I missing something?

    Some Android programs trigger the "media volume" slider when the hardware volume up/down buttons are pressed. My application seems to set the ringer volume when the hardware buttons are pressed. How would I enable the media volume slider? I would hate for users to have to go into their settings to change the media volume when they use my application.

Unfortunately I cannot attach a username and password to requests, ( the request are generated from a GIS mapcontrol) I can think of two ways around it Intercept all web requests from my .NET app and add a username/password Set up an Apache webserver and use proxypass to pass along my request adding a username/password Does anyone know how to do either of these?

I'm looking for a firefox plugin, windows app, or VB.NET code that will help me get this done.
