• Problem with Authlogic and Unit/Functional Tests in Rails

  I'm learning how unit testing is done in Rails, and I've run into a problem involving Authlogic. • Problem binding action parameters using FCKeditor, AJAX and ASP.NET MVC

  I have a simple ASP.Net MVC View which contains an FCKeditor text box (created using FCKeditor's Javascript ReplaceTextArea() function). If the Ajax form is submitted again a second time (without further changes) the testBox paramater correctly contains the actual contents of the FCKeditor. If I use a Html.TextArea without replacing with FCKeditor it works correctly, and if I use a standard Post form submit inplace of AJAX all works as expected. Am I doing something wrong? If not is there a suitable/straight-forward workaround for this problem?

• IKImageView resize is blocky

  I am putting an image into an IKImageView, and immediately sizing it to fit. Whenever I do this, the image originally appears at 1-1 size (huge) and then resizes down, which would be fine if the animation was smooth. However, the animation looks ... fluttery? There are big blocks, like 2 inches square, of the image that appear and shrink independently of each other. The effect is a little annoying, and almost to the level where it might give an epileptic a seizure... (I'm exaggerating a little). Is this a bug in IKImageView? Is it a bug in the animation? Will it go away if I turn off the animation (How do I do that? setAnimates: NO doesn't seem to do anything, nor does overloading animates to return NO in my subclass... EDIT: addedcode: NSImage* image = [doc currentImage]; [imageView setImage: image]; [imageView zoomImageToFit: self]; This is in the app controller, so self is the application (or plugin, depending on which version I'm looking at)

  Attempting to make a NSObject called 'Person' that will hold the login details for my application (nothing to fancy). The app is made of a navigation controller with multiple table views but I am having issues sharing the Person object around. I have been attempting to access them like this Person * ThePerson = [[Person alloc] init]; ThePerson = nil; NSString * PersonsName; PersonsName = [[Person sharedInstance] firstName]; Everything works well at the login screen but it dies at the next use. usually EXC_BAD_ACCESS (eek!). Clearly I am doing something very wrong here. Is there an easier way to share objects between different a number view controllers (both coded and xib)?

• How to stream partial content with ASP.NET MVC FileStreamResult

  We're using a FileStreamResult to provide video data to a Silverlight MediaElement based video player: public ActionResult Preview(Guid id) { return new FileStreamResult( Services.AssetStore.GetStream(id, ContentType.Preview), "application/octet-stream"); } Unfortunately, the Silverlight video player downloads the entire video file before it starts playing. This behavior is expected as our Preview Action does not support downloading partial content. (side note: if the file is hosted in an IIS virtual directory we can start playback at any location in the video while it is still downloading. however for security and auditing reasons we can't provide a direct download link. so this is not an option.) How can we improve the Controller Action to support partial HTTP content? I assume we first have to inform the client that we support it (adding an "Accept-Ranges:bytes" header to a HEAD request), then we have to evaluate the HTTP "Range" header and stream the requested file range with a response code of 206. Will that work with ASP.NET MVC hosted on IIS6? Is there already some code available? • How to ajax load a parent-child listbox in JQuery/Asp.net MVC popup?

  hi guys, i'm new to the asp.net mvc. and i have a link which will popup show a 3 panes listbox which allows the user to select country, region and language. and when the user click on the language, this will redirect back to the controller and refresh the page and show the proper localized content. i was thinking of using a jquery dialog/modal to do this but so i try using fancybox for this which will load the hidden div of the three listbox up. unfortunately, on clicking on the first listbox, the page will call a jquery event which will show the populate the 2nd list box in which the lightbox will close. is there a better way to do this? or i'm not using the proper jquery plugin? i was thinking of putting the whole three panes inside a html file and do ajax call to get the content into that page and load the listbox like that and just use the html popup like a normal popup. Any suggestions? i'm stuck, help!!

  If I have a huge table with ng-grid, and I enabled a checkbox to select all. Is there a way for me to combine this selectAll feature with the filtering box. I mean when I filter out the rows, I want to click the checkbox so that the rows filtered will be all selected; once I clean out filter, those selectedRows are still left so that I can add more rows into it with other filters. • Add a :filter param to the end of a url

  Hello, I am building an application that requires a search to go deeper than the initial level. I am using nested scopes to accomplish this and params in the URL For example, when a user searches for "handbag" it creates a query like the following. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I want to add a :filter param to the end of this url and reload the page with the new url. http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go!&filter=lowest_price As shown above the &filter=lowest_price is added to the query. I have already written controller code to handle this and I know it works as long as the query is like the 2nd link above. my views code <div class = "filter_options"> <p> <strong>Filter by:</strong> <%= link_to_unless_current "Recent", :filter => 'recent' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Lowest Price", :filter => 'lowest_price' %> | <%= link_to_unless_current "Highest Price", :filter => 'highest_price' %> </p> </div> This is how I have it currently, which works if my URL does not have a search string attached to it. Unfortunately, this will go to a http://localhost:3000/junks?filter=lowest_price even if there is a search string. I would like to know how to create my links so that they add onto the search string shown in the 2nd code example. Additionally, if a search string with a filter is already present, it would only change that filter and resubmit the search string with the new filter. I hope I am being clear.

  I'm using linq to SQL and MVC2 with data annotations and I'm having some problems on validation of some types. I have the same problem with a DateTime, which i want the users to write in the specific form 'dd/MM/yyyy' and i have a regex for that. but again, by the time the data-annotations do their job, all i get is a DateTime Object, and not the original string. So if the input is not a date, the regex does not even run, cos the data annotations just get a null, cos the model binder couldn't make it to a DateTime. Does anyone have an idea how to make this work?

  I need send certain attributes(say, human readable user name) from server to client after a successful authentication. Server part was done. Now attribute was sent to client. • Seperation of notification confirmation+storage and handling notification asp.net mvc

  After a payment from my web application to a 3rd party the 3rd party sends, next to the direct confirmation message, a notification message. This notification message is stored in my database for future use and I have to send a notification confirmed back. For this purpose I currently use a: return Content("received") Which is standard protocol for the service. Currently, I process the incoming notification by first storing it, than handling it (updating account credits etc in my application) and in the end sending a response. This all works well. But I want to seperate handling the notification and storing+responding to the webservice. The problem is that the "return Content()" is ending my controller method and therefore I cannot simply first send the confirmation message back to the webservice and than call my handle_Notification() method. So the solution would be to replace the return Content() part with something equal which doesn't involve a "return", is this possible, as I do not now the complete URL calling I cannot easily create a simple HTTP POST web request (I tried, might have made an error but did not work). Another solution would be to have some kind of timer or listener which either periodically checks for new notifications in the Database which have to be handled or a listener listening to DB new notifications or something. What is the standard procedure on this, if any?

  Hi, I use paperclip to add a file to my model. I want to use the new feature of firefox 3.6, xhr.sendAsBinary, to send a file with an ajax request. I wanted to remain get since I want to limit to columns that was set on $fields. What would should be the better idea to paginate this thing? or what's a good substitute for get and limit the columns? • Help/Questions About New Team Foundation Server 2010 Installation

  Hello. Before starting down the TFS2010 installation process, I have a few questions I'm hoping the community can help me with. We're planning on a single-server installation of TFS2010. Initially, we want version/source control and build services, but not reporting or SharePoint. We may add reporting and SharePoint capabilities later. Our environment will be Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64), SQL Server 2008 R2 (x64), Office 2010 (x86), Visual Studio 6 and 2010, and, of course, Team Foundation Server 2010. Can I install TFS2010 on a server that is on our domain? It's not a domain controller, it's just a member server on the domain. Should I install TFS2010 before or after putting the server on the domain? We have six developers that will be logging into their local development computers (which are also on the same domain) using their domain user accounts, do I add each domain user to the TFS2010 server's security groups? If so, which one(s)? Can I or should I use a domain user account as the TFS2010 service account? Or, should I just use Network Service? The TFS2010 install guide notes that none of the service accounts should belong to the Administrators security group, so which security group(s) are recommended for the service account(s)? We're planning on using a local instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard with TFS2010, what service account should we use? Should we use the same domain account as TFS2010 or Local System or ?? The TFS2010 install guide isn't very specific on this. Since we're planning on this server being both the version/source control and build server, should we install our development environments (VS6, VS2010, Access2010) before installing TFS2010? Or does it matter? Thanks in advance for answering these questions.

• Understanding asp.net mvc IView and IView.Render

  I'm trying to devise a method of doing VERY simple asp.net mvc plugins but mostly I'm trying to understand how view rendering works. I've distilled my problem down to this public class CustomView : IView { public void Render(ViewContext viewContext, TextWriter writer) { writer.Write( /* string to render */); } } Now, within that write method I can render any string to the view but when I put a line of code in there wrapped with <% % it renders the code to the view literally rather than parsing it and executing it. I've tried adding things like <% @Page ... to the beginning of the string and it just renders that literally as well. Among many attempts I'm currently calling it this way within a controller action: ... CustomView customView = new CustomView(); ViewResult result = new ViewResult(); result.View = customView; result.ViewName = "Index.aspx"; result.MasterName = ""; return result; What am I missing or doing wrong that this won't work? The ViewResult seems to have the WebFormViewEngine in its ViewEngines collection. I just want to understand this and after stripping it down to what I think should be the minimum it doesn't behave as I think it should. I'm guessing some other part of the machinery is involved/missing but I can't figure out what.

• Implementing a 2 Legged OAuth Provider

  I'm trying to find my way around the OAuth spec, its requirements and any implementations I can find and, so far, it really seems like more trouble than its worth because I'm having trouble finding a single resource that pulls it all together. Or maybe it's just that I'm looking for something more specialized than most tutorials. I have a set of existing APIs--some in Java, some in PHP--that I now need to secure and, for a number of reasons, OAuth seems like the right way to go. Unfortunately, my inability to track down the right resources to help me get a provider up and running is challenging that theory. Since most of this will be system-to-system API usage, I'll need to implement a 2-legged provider. With that in mind... Does anyone know of any good tutorials for implementing a 2-legged OAuth provider with PHP? Given that I have securable APIs in 2 languages, do I need to implement a provider in both or is there a way to create the provider as a "front controller" that I can funnel all requests through? When securing PHP services, for example, do I have to secure each API individually by including the requisite provider resources on each? Thanks for your help.

• Why does navigationItem.titleView align left when presentmodalviewcontroller called?

  I'm using a UILabel for the titleView of a navigation bar (I'm making simple in-app web browser). It works fine, except that when I present a modal view controller, the titleView shifts from the center of the navbar to the far left (underneath the back button). I've tested in 3.0 and up.   Let's say I have an User entity and I would want to set it's CreationTime property in the constructor to DateTime.Now. But being a unit test adopter I don't want to access DateTime.Now directly but use an ITimeProvider : public class User { public User(ITimeProvider timeProvider) { // ... this.CreationTime = timeProvider.Now; } // ..... } public interface ITimeProvider { public DateTime Now { get; } } public class TimeProvider : ITimeProvider { public DateTime Now { get { return DateTime.Now; } } } I am using NInject 2 in my ASP.NET MVC 2.0 application. I have a UserController and two Create methods (one for GET and one for POST). The one for GET is straight forward but the one for POST is not so straight and not so forward :P because I need to mess with the model binder to tell it to get a reference of an implementation of ITimeProvider in order to be able to construct an user instance. public class UserController : Controller { [HttpGet] public ViewResult Create() { return View(); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(User user) { // ... } } I would also like to be able to keep all the features of the default model binder. • C# mvc2 client side form validation with xval, prevent post

  I'm using xval to use client side validation in my asp.net mvc2 webapplication. Despite the errors it's giving when i enter text in a nummeric field it still tries to post the form to the database. The incorrect values are being replaced by 0 and saved to the database. But instead it shouldn't even be possible to try and submit the form. Can anyone help me out here? I've set the attributes as below; [Property] [ShowColumnInCrud(true, label = "FromPriceInCents")] [Required] //[Range(1, Int32.MaxValue)] public virtual Int32 FromPriceInCents{ get; set; } The controller catching the request looks as below; I'm getting no errors in this part. • LoginView inside FormView control is not databinding on PostBack

That all works. However, once the update is finished (and I call e.Cancel = true), the LoginView control does not databind its children... so they are all blank. The FormView's viewstate is still fine, as all the rest of the controls outside of the LoginView appear fine. I even handle the FormView_DataBound event and a Trace shows that the FormView is being databound on postback. Why then is the LoginView not keeping its ViewState/being databound? • Zend headScript() and appendFile not working as expected

  I'm having an issue trying to append a javascript file using headScript()->appendFile('file name') with Zend. I have my layout setup like this: <?= $this->headScript() ->prependScript( 'BASE_URL = "' . $this->baseUrl() . '";' ) ->appendFile( $this->baseUrl('js/lib/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js') ) ->appendFile( $this->baseUrl('js/admin.js') ); ?> Then, in my controller I am trying to append an additional js file only for this page, like: $this->view->headScript()->appendFile( 'another/js/file.js' ); This file needs to be appended to what is already setup in the layout. However, this file gets added before the other 'appendFile' files. I've also tried $this->headScript()->offsetSetFile(999, '/js/myfuncs.js'); But this still adds the file before the other files. This is not how I would expect this to work, especially when using the offsetSetFile method. How can I add this file after the other files? Thanks.

I'm new to iPhone development, but I'm assuming this is the correct and typical sequence. However, as soon as I changed the RootViewController code and set it as a subclass of UIViewController (instead of UITableViewController by default), and made the respective adjustments in Interface Builder, suddenly the RootViewController:viewDidLoad is being called before the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method. I need to get it back to the way it was working before because, as you can see in the code, the viewDidLoad method depends on didFinishLauchingWithOptions method to execute so it can set the rootViewController's managedObjectContext that it uses to perform the fetch request. Any ideas what caused this? Any ideas how I can fix this? Thanks so much in advance for your help! I'm gonna keep researching and playing with the code.

• Castle Windsor with ASP.NET MVC 2 Areas

  Been lurking for a few months and decided to jump in with a question. I am very new to Windsor and IoC in general. I can get Windsor to work with my MVC2 project with no problem. The project I am working on is a "portal" of multiple applications under one MVC2 project using the new Areas concept. In this scenario, each Area will actually be a separate application inside the "portal". We are doing this to effectively share a LOT of common code, views, authentication, and cross-application functionality. Many of our apps link to one another, so it made sense after discussing it to combine them into one project. What I am wondering how to do is actually allow different Areas to inject different concrete classes? In my limited understanding, the Application_Start is governing building the container and assigning it as the controller factory. I don't necessarily want to do all the injection at the application level. We have a config system where we have a config.xml at the root of every Area and those settings override any root settings. I would like to continue that trend by having the injections for each Area be read by the Area's config.xml (an inheritance similar to Webforms web.config where the config in a lower folder overrides settings in a parent folder). Example: I would have an ILogHandler which would need a different concrete implementation depending on which Area of the application I am in. So I would need to inject something different depending on where I am at in the application. I can easily do this using factories since each area could have it's own set of factories, but I am attempting to take this opportunity to learn about IoC and what the benefits/drawbacks are. Any help would be appreciated.
