• switch statemt functioning improperly and giving error when i put break;

  The following is the code i used in a program - over here the month variable is an integer switch(month) { case 1: case 3: case 5: case 7: case 8: case 10: case 12: return 31; break; case 2: return 28; break; case 4: case 6: case 9: case 11: return 30; break; default: System.out.println("Invalid month."); return 0; } surprisingly, when i use the above switch construct.. it gives an error saying.. code unreachable for statements after each break statement Then i removed all the break statements, and the new code looks like this --- switch(month) { case 1: case 3: case 5: case 7: case 8: case 10: case 12: return 31; case 2: return 28; case 4: case 6: case 9: case 11: return 30; default: System.out.println("Invalid month."); return 0; } Now.. after removing the break statements .. the code worked perfectly well.. My question is... in the switch construct.. it is mandatory to use break.. or else the control flow continued.. and all the conditions are tested and executed!! right??? So why in the world is the previous ** syntactically Right** version giving an error.. and the modified syntactically incorrect version running perfectly well.. Any explanation.. anyone!!

  In Global.asax handle errors by trying to redirect users to another page without changing the url in the address bar, that's why I am using RewritePath and not Redirect. void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Code that runs when an unhandled error occurs Context.RewritePath("~/Error.aspx", false); } Error.apsx in same root folder as About.aspx, and Default.aspx pages which of course work. Not sure I am having this issue. Have the following web.config file settings that I thought may be relevant: IIS7 settings: Application "TestRewriteUrl" under Default Web Site on DefaultAppPool. This example my seem trivial but I cannot use IIS7 HTTP Redirect as I actually was using this example to keep it simple. What I want to ultimately do is have a user type in http://www.somesite.com/myownpage and have it rewrite the path to another page in the same application directory by looking up the "myownpage" in the database to see what database id they have and redirect them to the correct "microsite" based on that without the user noticing a url change. Kind of like when you go to a blogging engine and no matter where in your blog you go the url remains the same. I don't want the user to go from http://www.mysite.com/tomshardware to http://www.mysite.com?id=8734656856. So that is why I used the simply example above to try and understand why the rewrite path does not work.

But the file does indeed exist. Given the constraints of the regex in mod_rewrite implementation, I haven't yet seen a straightforward way of doing this.

  I have a Default.aspx page that is not static. I have added functionality with datalist and sqldatasources. When a user logins he/she will see items like saved workouts, saved equipment, total replys, etc... This is based on getting the currently logged in user UserID. Quite simply this works great when the user is logged in. However, I do not want to force a user to login to view the Default page because it does have functionality on it that does not require login. When a user is not logged in of course I receive the [System.NullReferenceException] error. I understand the error well but I do not know how to code to fix it. That is where I need help. I will admit I am more designer than developer. However, I do know the exception error I am receivving is caused by me not setting a value in my code when a user is not logged in. I do not know how to do that and have for a week made unsuccessful attempts at writing the code. Both sets of code below compile for VB.Net/ASP.Net 4/Visual Studio 2010 without errors. However, I still get the System.NullReferenceException error if not logged in. I know it can be done but I do not know the right syntax. If you can help please insert you code in mine or write it out. JUST TELLING ME WHERE TO GO TO FIND AN ANSWER WON'T HELP. I HAVE DONE THAT FOR 7 STRAIGHT DAYS. I APPRECIATE OUR HELP. • how to configure jetty 7 to use syslog or log4j

  I am looking for a way to direct all the jetty 7 logging to syslog. My current configuration dumps everything to JETTY_HOME/logs/.. After some initial ivestigation, it seems I should change JETTY_HOME/etc/jetty-logging.xml, but this does not look straightforward. It looks like I should create a new PrintStream implementation which sends its output to syslog and redirecting stderr and stdout to that class in jetty-logging.xml. any easier way to do that or to make jetty log directly to log4j ? While I know I create temp tables in Oracle, I was hoping to keep things DRY. • How to implement a search page which shows results on the same page?

  I'm using ASP.NET MVC 2 for the first time on a project at work and am feeling like a bit of a noob. I have a page with a customer search control/partial view. The control is a textbox and a button. You enter a customer id into the textbox and hit search. The page then "refreshes" and shows the customer details on the same page. In other words, the customer details appear below the customer search control. This is so that if the customer isn't the right one, the user can search again without hitting back in the browser. Or, perhaps they mistyped the customer id and need to try again. I want the URL to look like this: /Customer/Search/1 Obviously, this follows the default route in the project. Now, if I type the URL above directly into my browser, it works fine. However, when I then use the search control on that page to search for say customer 2, the page refreshes with the correct customer details but the URL does not change! It stays as /Customer/Search/1 When I want it to be /Customer/Search/2 How can I get it to change to the correct URL? I am only using the default route in Global.asax. • MSSQL Server using multiple ID Numbers

  I have an web application that creates printable forms, these forms have a unique number on them, the problem is I have 2 forms that separate numbers need to be created for them. ie) Form1- Numbered 2000000-2999999 Form2- Numbered 3000000-3999999 dbo.test2 - is my form information table Tsel - is my autoinc table for the 3000000 series numbers Tadv - is my autoinc table for the 2000000 series numbers What I have done is create 2 tables with just autoinc row (one for 2000000 series numbers and one for 3000000 series numbers), I then created a trigger to add a record to the coresponding table, read back the autoinc number and add it to my table that stores the form information including the just created autoinc number for the right series of forms. Although it does work, I'm concerned that the numbers will get messed up under load. I'm not sure the @@IDENTITY will always return the right value when many people are using the system. (I cannot have duplicates and I need to use the numbering form show above.
