• Installing Sharepoint 2007 on Windows Server 2008 R2

  we are using in our lab a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 which is running as Hyper-V instance. Today we wanted to install a clean installation of Sharepoint 2007 with SP1 on this machine and we explorer an error that we are not able to install it. The setup is comes up with an error which is described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962935 but this is not our szenario. A printscreen of this message can be found here: http://www.ronischuetz.com/images/SP_2007SP1_Inst_Error.png @Microsoft, my personal point of view is that it cannot be that we need to install first 2008, then Sharepoint 2007 with SP1, then SP2 and upgrade to 2008 R2. Nobody is going be happy with this solution and I hope we find a fast way how customers can install Sharepoint direclty on 2008 R2. Anyway, thanks in advance for any further information how we should go on with this issue. • The best way to structure/design game code

  My question is quite broad and related to the 2D game code design/architecture/structure. Usually the main game consists of the main loop where you update & render your world states. However, it's recommended for many purposes to separate rendering from the game-logic and so on. I am kinda confused about the whole situation. Many game engines/libs/sdks don't follow separation schema. They propagate a way where you define some scenes/stages and they contain some objects and the scene/stage controls the user input and so on. For example, in cocos2d(-x) and libgdx (stage2d) the games are usually done the way that the update logic happens at the same time/place as rendering. Also, the propagated way is to have a structure where an object knows how to draw itself - which is not a separation of updating & rendering. The same with Flash based games, they are usually done the way when an object (class) contains a swf or a texture and some data and holds some update logic itself, or updated from main Scene. And again this object already knows how to draw itself via "addChild". Also, some people recommend to use MVC pattern, which will require to completely obey the structure of those engines/libs/sdks. Maybe I am overthinking everything, but I am totally confused. I would be grateful if somebody could point me to a correct direction with the game code structures. What is your way of doing things in libgdx/cocos2d/flash?

• Using Lerp to create a hovering effect for a GameObject

  I want to have a GameObject that has a "hovering" effect when the mouse is over it. What I'm having trouble with is actually having a color that gradually goes from one color to the next. I'm assuming Color.Lerp() is the best function for that, but I can't seem to get it working properly. To attempt this, we have set: APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade "7" in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades And then touched the /var/lib/apt/periodic/update-stamp to set the timestamp to a Wednesday, for instance: touch -t 201211280000 /var/lib/apt/periodic/update-stamp Running: stamp=$(date --date=$(date -r /var/lib/apt/periodic/update-stamp --iso-8601) +%s 2/dev/null) date -u --date="1970-01-01 $stamp sec GMT" Gives the correct timestamp: Wed Nov 28 00:00:00 UTC 2012 However, unattended-upgrades then seems to ignore this, and run the updates on a Saturday morning. Could anyone enlighten me as to how this parameter works, and how to set up upgrades to run on a Wednesday?

I thought I would install SQL2008 SP1, but after install I cannot connect to SQL via Management Studio, and in configuration manager I cannot start SQL? • How do I fix a garbled screen on a Gateway LT3103u?

  I've been having garbled screen problems on a Gateway LT3103u on Ubuntu for a while. I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 and continue to have issues. I installed xubuntu-desktop in case the issues had to do with the sophisticated GNOME graphics. The problem is less bad, but it's still there. After a few minutes of using XFCE, the screen gets garbled. I assume this has something to do with the graphics card, but I don't know how to go about troubleshooting something like this. Where should I start? Update 2: It is possible to use this fix for Nvidia card (GTX 260) when graphics is defective after 11.10 upgrade/install? First few restarts was graphic ok, then after few restarts begins suddenly be defective and it stay so. I must returned to 11.04 because this problem and I wait for 12.04. So I hope in this fix.

• Suddely internet is not accessible

  I am going crazy here. One day everything was working fine. I turned pc off and went to sleep. Next day turn pc on and cannot access internet (from any browser). The situation is: I cannot open any webpage from browser (tried Firefox and Epiphany) and cannot receive emails in thunderbird. BUT if I run firefox from console as sudo, I can use it as usual. I can access Skype and pretty much any other network stuff (like installing software with apt-get etc.), also if I use Astrill VPN software I can access webpages even running without sudo. I haven't install any software or anything like that for several days = I have not a clue what could cause this. Just by the way, other Win PC in our home has no issue. Here is what I have tried to fix this: I have tried to restart my pc, router, modem - multiple times I have tried to change permissions to my firefox profile I have tried to completely re-install firefox and start with blank profile, thus no addons I have tried to change /etc/resolv.conf to an IP of my router (it was 127.0.1.1) I have tried to change my hostname (from tomino-NB to tominoNB) I think I might try even more stuff. None of it works. Can someone please try to help me. Thank you UPDATE 1: I have tried this: Removing resolv.conf - Didn't help Also "ping" and "dig" commands cannot resolve host UPDATE 2: I have tried to edit nameservers in resolv.conf but still no effect. I can ping router as well as I can ping outside IP. So definitely just some DNS issue. Is it possible that something is rewriting path to resolv.conf and using different file? UPDATE 3: I have just restarted PC and everything works now... resolv.conf went back to nameserver 127.0.1.1 . I have no clue what happened that it works again...

  Using the ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) downloaded from Oracle to talk to a handfull of Oracle DBs - Was putting together my DAL to update the DB, and things weren't working as I hoped - UPDATE foo SET bar = :P_BAR WHERE bap = :P_BAP I assign my parameters - objCmd.Parameters.Add(objBap); objCmd.Parameters.Add(objBar);   Execute update command - int result = objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery() and result is zero! ...  Is my filter incorrect? SELECT count(*) FROM foo WHERE bap = :P_BAP ...result is one... Is my new value incorrect?  Am I using Char instead of Varchar somewhere and need an RTRIM?  Is there a transaction getting involved?  An error thrown and not caught? The answer: Order of parameters.   The order parameters are added to the Oracle Command object must match the order the parameters are referenced in the SQL statement.  I was adding the parameters for the WHERE clause before adding the SET value parameters, and for that reason although no error was being thrown, no value was updated either. Flip parameter collection around to match order of params in the SQL statement, and ExecuteNonQuery() is back to returning the number of rows affected.

• Oracle VM server for SPARC 2.2 on S11

  Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.2 has been released for a little while now. The https://blogs.oracle.com/virtualization blog has an overview of all the 2.2 features. Initially, what was released was the SVR4 package for Solaris 10 (which is unbundled and wasn't constrained by any external schedule). On Solaris 11, the 'ldomsmanager' package is built into Solaris (and therefore doesn't need to be downloaded separately) so it is delivered as part of an S11 Support Repository Update (SRU). Some of the features in 2.2 are specific to S11 (SR-IOV and the ability to live migrate between machines with different CPU types) and so there have been many requests to know when are the S11 bits coming. Solaris 11 SRU8.5 was released on Friday and this includes Oracle VM server for SPARC 2.2 so if you're already running an S11 SRU all you need do is a 'pkg update' to get the 2.2 bits. If you're still running the original S11 and your 'pkg publisher' output shows the /release repository then you'll need to sign up for the /support repo by getting the appropriate keys and certificates to access the repository (requires a support contract).   I am trying to make a class which controls a camera. The getPosition function is simply forwarded to it's scene node. What I want(for now) is for the camera to simply follow the AnimatedBody overhead at the distance given(the height parameter), and look down at it. It follows the object around, but it doesn't look straight down, it's tilted quite a bit in the positive Z direction. Does anybody have any idea why it would do that? If I change this line: position.y += height_; to this: position.x += height_; or this: position.z += height_; it does exactly what I would expect. It follows the object from the side or front, and looks directly at it.

• SQL Server Management Studio Connect to Server List Editing

  I'm using SQLServer Management Studio (2005) and I have a fairly lengthy list of servers in there, and I'd like to get rid of some of them that are no longer in use, without having to set them all up again. I know that the C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Shell\mru.dat can be deleted and this will remove ALL the entries, but is there anyway to just delete some of them? (Coding info) I looked at the file and it is a serialised blob from the Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg.dll (Class Personalization) in the Appplication directory, but all the methods are private. So I can't just create an instance of this and then call Remove on the entries. • If statement causing xna sprites to draw frame by frame

  I’m a bit new to XNA but I wanted to write a simple program that would fire a cannon ball from a cannon at a 45 degree angle. It works fine outside of my keyboard i/o if statement, but when I encapsulate the code around an if statement checking to see if the user hits the space bar, the sprite will draw one frame at a time every time the space bar is hit. DeltaX and DeltaY are the values I’m using to update the cannon balls position per update. I know it's dumb to have the cannon ball start at the cannons position every time the update is called but it’s not really noticeable right now. I was wondering if after examining my code, if anyone noticed any errors that would cause the sprite to display frame by frame instead of drawing it as a full animation of the cannon ball leaving the cannon and moving from there.

• Membership Provider Parte 1

  Asp.net ha sido una de las tecnologías creadas por Microsoft de mas rápido crecimiento por la facilidad para los desarrolladores de crear sitios web. Una de las partes de mayor importancia que tiene asp.net es el contar con el Membership Provider o proveedor de Membrecía, que permite la creación, manejo y mantenimiento de un sistema completo de control y autenticación de usuarios. Para dar inicio a la serie de post que escribiré sobre que es Membeship y cuáles son las funcionalidades principales daremos unas definiciones. Tal como se menciono anteriormente con el membership provider podemos crear un sistema de control de usuarios completos, entre las funcionalidades principales podemos encontrar: * Creación de usuarios * Almacenamiento de información en base de datos * Autenticación, bloqueos y seguimiento Otras de las ventajas que cabe resaltar, es que, algunos de los controles de asp.net ya traen "naturalmente" en sus funciones la implementación del membership provider, tal como el control "Login" o los controles de estado de usuario, lo cual nos permite que con solo arrastrarlos al diseñador estén funcionando. Membership provider es poderoso, pero su funcionalidad y seguridad se ven aumentadas cuando se integra con otros proveedores de asp.net como lo son RoleProvider y Profile Provider (estos los discutiremos en otros post). En la siguiente figura, podemos ver como se distribuyen algunoS provider creados por Microsoft Antes de iniciar con la implementación de membership debes conocer cosas básicas como el espacio de nombres al que pertenece, el cual es: System.Web.Security que se encuentra dentro del ensamblado System.Web. Algo que debe tomarse en cuenta, es que, para poder utilizar cualquiera de los miembros de la clase, debemos hacer la referencia respectiva. Por defecto, el membership provider está diseñado para trabajar directamente con SQL Server, de ahí que su nombre completo seria SQL Membership Provider. Sin embargo, debido a su gran flexibilidad podemos extenderlo a cualquier base de datos o bien modificarlo para adapatarlo a nuestras necesidades. • Updating an ADF Web Service Data Control When Service Structure or Location Change

  The web service data control in Oracle ADF gives you a simplified approach to consuming services in ADF applications, and now with ADF Mobile the usage of this service seems to be growing. A frequent question we get is what happens if the service that I'm consuming changes - how do I update my data control? Well, first we should mention that if you do a good design of your application before you actually code - then things like Web service method signature shouldn't change. The signature is the contract between the publisher and the consumer, and contracts shouldn't be broken. But in reality things do change during development stages, so here is how you can update both method signatures and service location with the Web service data control: After watching this video you might be tempted to not copy the WSDLs to your project - which lets you use the right click update on a data control. However there is a reason why the copy is on by default, it reduces network traffic when you are actually running your application since ADF doesn't need to go to the server to find out the service structure. So for runtime performance, you probably should keep the WSDL local.  I encourage you to further look into both the connections.xml file where your service location is saved, and the datacontrols.dcx file where its definition is kept to get an even deeper understanding of how ADF works underneath the declarative layers.

• ASP.NET website deployment [on hold]

  I am getting my hands wet with ASP and I have been following the tutorials. I deployed the site and in Azure and it worked great. Today I started actually designing the site. And when I published, it looks as if it doesn't read any of the files I just updated, added, and modified. It works on my localhost, but not in the Azure. I thought when you publish, everything goes up, including the new files. I don't have enough reputation to add a picture so, you'll forgive me. SO, basically, how do I get my entire site uploaded? • Wheel rotation, to change velocity of vehicle

This is done in my update method in my world class.   Our application runs on Ubuntu 12.04 Precise. On this server, we have both ntpdate and ntp. How to enable and disable the NTP service on-demand? I tried # sudo update-rc.d -f ntp remove/default and # sudo update-rc.d ntp enable/disable commands, but when I reboot server the ntp service starts running! I suspect ntpdate is starting ntp service on reboot. I removed ntpdate package from one of my experimental server, then ntp didn't start on reboot after issuing: # update-rc.d ntp disable Is there a way to control this? or is there way to permanently disable ntpdate?

• How can I save state from script in a multithreaded engine?

  We are building a multithreaded game engine and we've encountered some problems as described below. The engine have 3 threads in total: script, render, and audio. Each frame, we update these 3 threads simultaneously. As these threads updating themselves, they produce some tasks and put them into a public storage area. As all the threads finish their update, each thread go and copy the tasks for themselves one by one. After all the threads finish their task copying, we make the threads process those tasks and update these threads simultaneously as described before. So this is the general idea of the task schedule part of our engine. Ok, well, all the task schedule part work well, but here's the problem: For the simplest, I'll take Camera as an example: local oldPos = camera:getPosition() -- ( 0, 0, 0 ) camera:setPosition( 1, 1, 1 ) -- Won't work now, cuz the render thread will process the task at the beginning of the next frame local newPos = camera:getPosition() -- Still ( 0, 0, 0 ) So that's the problem: If you intend to change a property of an object in another thread, you have to wait until that thread process this property-changing message. As a result, what you get from the object is still the information in the last frame. So, is there a way to solve this problem? Or are we build the task schedule part in a wrong way? • How to create a thread in XNA for pathfinding?

  I am trying to create a separate thread for my enemy's A* pathfinder which will give me a list of points to get to the player. I have placed the thread in the update method of my enemy. However this seems to cause jittering in the game every-time the thread is called. I have tried calling just the method and this works fine. Is there any way I can sort this out so that I can have the pathfinder on its own thread? Do I need to remove the thread start from the update and start it in the constructor? Is there any way this can work?
