    Hi, As Rails applications default run on port 3000, would it be possible to start the application on port 80? Is it really required to have a fastcgi/mod_proxy enabled web server in front? My users won't be more than three at a time. If so, how would I be able to do so? Thanks!

  • What time/date do you stamp your deployed data/exe files when they appear on the target system?

    It seems a good and clean thing to ensure that your deployed files appear on the target system with a consistent time/date. Many Applications seem to do this but other than for care of overwriting Users' existing data I guess it has no real significance. I'm having a purge on my installer packaging and I'd like to know if there any good reasons for specific date/time handling.

    Hi , my doubt is the following, I have a network with 5 pcs, each machine has XP installed, I don't know much about distributed desktop applications, so what i want is to create a C# application using sql server 2005 database and visual studio 2008. In my opinion it is not very elegant to place such environment specific configuration into a file that is inside a .war file. How could a DB connection of a Servlet based JPA application be configured more flexible (=outside of the .war file)?

It seems like sort of an edge case that different backbones or ISPs might intentionally break to reduce router load or generally segment the network for practical high-use applications.     I am quite impressed by the workflow I follow when developing Android applications: Define a layout in an xml file and then write all the code in a code-behind style. Is there an equivalent style for the web? I mean, with a predefined list of widgets that can be defined using a markup language and then control them using code? I have come across Google's Web Toolkit that does something like this but I'd like to hear what other's think as well.

    Is it possible to deceive SQL Server to return a different date on GetDate() without actually changing the machine date? This would be great, since we have a database with old data and I'm trying to test some queries that use getdate(). I can change my machine date but that brings some other problems with other applications... Any tips? Thanks!
