  • file corruption on read/write 2.6.32-22-server (happens across many kernels)

    Hi Guys, I'm having an issue where after the server has been up for a period of time (~week/few days) the server will start reading corrupt data. For instance when I run a sha1sum of a file after a fresh boot it remains the same. However after a while I will start to get segfaults and from then on whenever I read this file I get a different sha1sum. I'm also use KVM for virtualization as well as MD for software RAID on this server and the processor is a Phenom II X4 965. I don't believe it's the software raid however as this affects files also hosted on non-raid partitions so I don't know.

    A client has inquired me for a DLP software to lock USB and CD Drives. I contacted few companies and the DLP tool needs a Domain from where the software can control the nodes. The client says that they have 55 machines in a WorkGroup and also has 1 server. I am not following what exactly is a WorkGroup and a Domain. The DLP tool specifications say that the network must have a Domain and Active Directory Services.

  • XP User account cannot write to USB

    Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.

  • User not able to change permissions on folder in network share for Windows Server 2003

    I have a user that has rights to change permissions within a certain folder on a Windows Server 2003 network share. Although I grant this person the rights to change permission and ownership this person cannot change any permissions. The network share is also set to allow everyone full control. (I understand it is bad practice yet this is how it was first configured) Is there any reason why this domain user cannot modify permissions on the folder and files they create?

    I am using Team Viewer to control my PCs remotely. It lets me restart my PC, and this is a good feature. Is it possible to remotely start a PC which is already turned off? Maybe it's impossible but I like to ask Superusers. All I can think of is something like sending a signal to PC's BIOS. Assume that all components of PC is connected to electrical socket and the router is on.

    My service for World Wide Web Publishing Service started successfully but whenever I browse to http://localhost/ I always get 502 Unknown host. I've narrowed down the problem: there are no SQL services installed: Bringing up the Services control panel applet shows me there are no MS SQL services installed. Things I've tried: Repair install of SQL Complete uninstall and reinstall of all MS SQL products. How can I get SQL Server running?

  • How can I merge the gnome clipboard and the X selection?

    I'm constantly frustrated by the two separate clipboards in X/Gnome. I'm constantly doing things like control-C to copy, and then middle-click to paste, and getting the wrong data. I have tried going to Language in Control Panel and setting the only language to English - US, however English - UK is still the only option in speech properties.   • Cannot change default application association of certain file types

    After associating my MP3 files with MPlayer i can no longer change that association using the Choose default program... dialogue, the Always use this [...] Checkbox is always greyed out (Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program does not let me change it either). That also happened for MP4s but not for MKVs for example, and if i associate my MP3s with other applications like VLC it does not get blocked. I would really like to know why that is and if i can avoid this beforehand (thankfully i know ways to fix it afterwards already). Edit: Another obervation: The blocking programs (i managed to block it with an association to Visual Studio as well) do not appear in the Recommended Programs of the open-with-dialogue (And the explorer said: "The current program is not recommended, but i won't let you change it, ha!"). Edit: A screenshot as requested: As you can see on the top left (if you know the icon of MPlayer), the file is currently associated with MPlayer. Edit: Ways to fix it (Note: This question is not about fixing it) Using the Default Programs Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs, select WMP, Choose defaults for this program, check .mp3 This should reassociate the files with WMP and you can create a new association in the explorer. Using the registry (As always, keep your hands off it unless you know what you are doing or if you are fine with accidentally breaking your system) HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > FileExts > .mp3 Here you could for example clean up the open-with-list, and the current default program seems to be saved here as well in the key UserChoice, there you can change the ProgId string to another application, you can associate it with WMP by entering WMP11.AssocFile.MP3 or just pick another application right away. You may need to mess with permissions on the key though, if you cannot change the ProgId value.

But it worked very well when I tried a DNS query on TCP using dig command. However, I can't find some control switch to change to use TCP during DNS query. Is there a way to change it in Mac OS? We have 2 SSID which our clients can connect to (one which connects to a DHCP we control, the other to a different DHCP we don't - each with their own WINS).
