• SSIS - SharePoint to SQL without Adapter Addin?

  Hey all, Im looking to Extract a SharePoint List (WSS 2.0) to a SQL(2005) Table using SQL Server Integrated Services. First off I am aware of the "adapter" that does this from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd365137.aspx however I'm just wondering for compatibility purposes if it can't just be done "out of the box". There are only a limited number of "Data Flow Sources" to select as alternatives and I am unsure if any of these would be able to work in a similar way either directly to SharePoint or via SharePoints web services (e.g. http://server_name/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx) From the list of these sources it looks like the best option would be the OLE DB connector, but not sure how it would do this.   I a have a notification in a receiver that fires off fine, but it restarts the activity (thus clearing the edittexts and resetting the toggle button) How can i set it so that when its tapped on it resumes the activity rather that clearing and resetting everything? • Get countries within range of LAT/LONG coordinates

  Trouble! I'm looking for a way to find the countries within a given range of LAT/LONG coordinates. E.g.: When viewing a place in Africa in Google Maps, I get out which countries that are in my current view. This is a bit ambitious, and I think the main problem will be dealing with accuracy of the needed polygons. The accuracy of these don't need to be all that great, the borders can probably be tens of miles off, or even more. This will be needed for the entire world.

• How to disable a warning in Delphi about "return value ... might be undefined"?

  I have a function that gives me the following warning: [DCC Warning] filename.pas(6939): W1035 Return value of function 'function' might be undefined The function, however, is clean, small, and does have a known, expected, return value. The first statement in the function is: Result := ''; and there is no local variable or parameter called Result either. Is there any kind of pragma-like directive I can surround this method with to remove this warning? This is Delphi 2007. Unfortunately, the help system on this Delphi installation is shot, so I can't pop up the help for that warning right now. Anyone know off the top of their head what I can do?

• Network message serialization for game

  Exit-games make a network library product called photon, and they have and actively develop a limited mmo demo. Rather than shooting off json or XML, etc. saying "MovePlayer" (with associated params), they nut that message down to a 2 digit int, via an enum - something like Operations.MovePlayer. There's no denying that a 2 digit int is smaller than a longer string, however I really hate the idea of statically burning each and every message into an enum. Would there be an alternative way to have a MessageID property assign itself a unique 2 digit int based on a lookup table or something? Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing before?

• what do i need to do now that I want to take programming hobby to next level ?

  i've always wanted to make games but did not start actively learning programming by myself until 1st year of university. i kept going throughout university learning new languages, showing off things i had made, while neglecting my major in Biology. Anyways, i've ended up with an Economics degree, with a portfolio of SaaS and web apps i had created so i could eat during my final year. So far, I'm getting a few interviews here and there in web programming positions. When I get a logic pretest, I fail miserably. or job requires comp sci degree. I mean I can easily design and code an entire app which I emphasize through my portfolio.... but i dont know why I am so slow at logic puzzles on prescreening interview... So what should I do now ? get certificates in languages ? go back to school and learn CS ? is it too late to get into windows programming jobs than web programming ?

• Best place to store large amounts of session data

  I'm building an application that needs to store and re-use large amounts of data per session. So for example, the user selects a large list of list items (say 2000 or significantly more) which have a numeric value as their key then they save that selection and go off to another page, do something else and then come back to the original page and need to load their selections into that page. What is the quickest and most efficient way of storing and reusing that data? In a text file saved with the session id? In a temp db table? In the session data itself (db sessions so size isn't a limit) using a serialised string or using gzcompress or gzencode? Any advice or insight would be great! Thank you!!!!

• initWithCoder breaking my touch events (touchBegan, touchMoved, etc)

  So I have a UIView that has been setup, and in each touch event handler I have an NSLog fire off a message to the console. - (void) touchesBegan:(NSSSet*)touches withEvent:(UIEvent*)event { NSLog(@"touchesBegan"); } And that pretty much works as expected. But once I implement initWithCoder (even blank) - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder { return self; } I no longer receive the message to my console (or can hit breakpoints obviously). This is my first app so I'm probably missing something dumb, but I've looked through various example apps and I don't appear to be missing any code that would re-enable touch events.

• .NET Performance: Deep Recursion vs Queue

  I'm writing a component that needs to walk large object graphs, sometimes 20-30 levels deep. What is the most performant way of walking the graph? A. Enqueueing "steps" so as to avoid deep recursion or B. A DFS (depth first search) which may step many levels deep and have a "deep" stack trace at times. I guess the question I'm asking is: Is there a performance hit in .NET for doing a DFS that causes a "deep" stack trace? If so, what is the hit? And would I better better off with some BFS by means of queueing up steps that would have been handled recursively in a DFS? Sorry if I'm being unclear. Thanks.

• Mercurial: Share a repo without putting it on a server?

  I am working in a student group with several other people. We would like to use Mercurial as our version control system, but some of our files can't be put online in a public hosting service like Google Projects or Codeplex. Is there some way that we can host a repo on our own machines, passing the files/changesets between each other as necessary, without creating a horribly conflicted mess? I know that Mercurial has a bundle command that can be used to package a repo. If I do that, and send the bundle someone else, and they want to get the changes back to me, what's the best way to do that? Send me a bundle back? I have a shared hosting account on a server. Is there any chance I could run Mercurial off that box? How would I find this out?

• How to suppress javascript errors for sites I'm not developing?

  I like to keep javascript debugging enabled in my browser so when I'm developing my own code I can instantly see when I've made an error. Of course this means I see errors on apple.com, microsoft.com, stackoverflow.com, cnn.com, facebook.com. Its quite fun sometimes to see just how much awful code there is out there being run by major sites but sometimes it gets really annoyed. I've wondered for YEARS how to change this but never really got around to it. Its particularly annoying today and I'd really like to know of any solutions. The only solution I have is : use a different browser for everyday browsing. I'm hopin theres some quick and easy plugin someone can direct me to where I can toggle it on and off based upon the domain i'm on. Edit: I generally use IE7 for everyday browsing

• What tool can I use to extract resources from a VB6 application?

  One of my clients has an application that was written for them using VB6. They no longer have the original resources that were given to the developer. The developer has disappeared off the face of the earth. My challenge is to extract the resources from the executable and rebuild the application, adding new material to it. I've tried using Resource Hacker, but that only finds the icon. The exe is over 26MB, I can't see that the only resource embedded is the icon. Is there a way to extract this resource?

• Division inaccurate in Javascript?

  If I perform the following operation in Javascript: 0.06120*400 The result is 24.48. However, if I do this: 24.48/400 The result is: 0.061200000000000004 JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/zcDH7/ So it appears that Javascript rounds things differently when doing division and multiplication? Using my calculator, the operation 24.48/400 results in the correct answer of 0.0612. How should I deal with Javascript's inaccurate division? I can't simply round the number off, because I will be dealing with numbers of varying precision. Thanks for your advice.

Is it good practice not to use break operator here ? I don't want to turn off "unreachable code detected" warning. PS: There are many case in my ProcessCmdKey method.

  How much trust can I put in a standard computer running windows? To what certainty can I be sure it will run my code the way I wrote it? How can I be sure that if I declare something like "int j = 5;", j will alway be 5? Is there a way to measure trust in a standard x86 computer system? What kind of protections are there to make sure that j = 5? I'm thinking about critical systems where nothing can be off even by one bit and everything must run exactly the way it was written to run.

• StackOverflow WordPress Plugin: Sidebar Widget [closed]

  I used the idea from "StackOverflow badge to show in your blog" from here to develop a small WordPress plugin to show your SO reputation and badges on your WordPress weblog sidebar. It's awfully lacking some graphic design, style, color, etc. I also thought of adding the user avatar, and images for the different badges. But it's working so far, and it's pretty late and I have to get some sleep. But I'll add the stuff I mentioned tomorrow. That was quite an interesting PHP challenge. • Advantages of using WCF to work with Sharepoint Services WSS3.0?

  Hi folks, what is your opinion or better off your practical experience using WCF to work with WSS instead of SP web services? I am writing some custom library for our software to store and retrieve files from WSS document libraries using sharepoint web services. I am not entirely happy with the performance of the sp web services - a bit too slow in many cases. Now, microsoft claims a significant improvements in WCF over remoting and I am looking into a good way to use WCF for my file services. Any suggestions or ideas? • OutputPath ignored on projects being build by TFS 2010

  I have installed TFS2010 Beta 2 with default settings and configured a CI build with a solution containing the indivial projects. My *.cspoj files could have: <OutputPath>bin\debug\</OutputPath> Or alternatively: <OutDir>bin\debug\</OutDir> When the build server is done building and running tests etc. all the assemblies are placed in the root of the build drop off folder. How do I configure the build to keep the outputpath or outdir in my projects and store the assemblies and content in the matching folder structure( builddropfolder\bin\debug\ )? I have found a number of post on this most of them relates to TFS 2008 but I have not found solutions for TFS 2010. Perhaps it is possible to solve this in the new workflow file for the buildserver?

  Hello all, This is probably an easy one. I have about 20 TextViews/ImageViews in my current project that I access like this: ((TextView)multiLayout.findViewById(R.id.GameBoard_Multi_Answer1_Text)).setText(""); //or ((ImageView)multiLayout.findViewById(R.id.GameBoard_Multi_Answer1_Right)).setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); My question is this, am I better off, from a performance standpoint, just assigning these object variables? Further, am I losing some performance to the constant "search" process that goes on as a part of the findViewById(...) method? (i.e. Does findsViewById(...) use some sort of hashtable/hashmap for look-ups or does it implement an iterative search over the view hierarchy?) At present, my program never uses more than 2.5MB of RAM, so will assigning 20 or so more object variables drastically affect this? I don't think so, but I figured I'd ask. Thanks.

• Syncing large personal school-material -git-repo with things such as casual notes? Rsync, wget and Git -- or some ready tool?

  My friend wants to store electrically her school -notes and process them fast, with backups. She has over 2GB -size repo already and growing all the time (mostly appended material i.e. more school notes, different formats, pdf, pictures and scanned, some text -files, etc). The goal of my friend is to process fast the notes. I suggested command like this here i.e. "# crontab -e @weekly wget --random-wait -e robots=off -U mozilla -mirror http://VeryLong.com". But I think plugging in Rsync somewhere could make it much better with Git. How would you help my friend to process and store the school -material under Git-version-controlling and still keep the size reasonable? Perhaps related rsync .git directory rsync git big repository Different scope Git/rsync mix for projects with large binaries and text files What's a good way to organize a large collection of personal scripts using git?

• How many databases to support eCommerce?

  I have a system with two databases, one that the customer-facing website uses, the second that is used by the "backroom" order-fulfillment system. I've been asked to run queries from the website to the backroom system. I'd rather not, it seems risky to allow web-based request to run unheeded on the internal system. Additionally, this means opening up routing in the firewall to allow external connections to the internal server. What's the best practice for eCommerce? Run the entire company off of one database? Or individual databases for each system, and middleware to connect them? Sometimes it might be necessary for the web application to pull date from the internal system, but not based on an HTTP request from the internet. I'm sure the best answer is "it depends!" So, if people have a rule of thumb for when to use middleware and when not to, I'd like to here it.

• "Use windows xp style dpi scaling" disables automatic auto-hide of taskbar on W7. Workaround?

  We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list.   SQL Server 2008 I almost have, I think, what I'm looking to do. I'm just trying to fine tune the result. I have a table that stores timestamps of all transactions that occur on the system. I'm writing a query to give an average transaction time. This is what I have so far: With TransTime AS ( select endtime-starttime AS Totaltime from transactiontime where starttime > '2010-05-12' and endtime < '2010-05-13') Select CAST(AVG(CAST(TotalTime As Float))As Datetime) from TransTime I'm getting the following result: 1900-01-01 00:00:00.007 I can't figure out how to strip the date off and just display the time, 00:00:00:007. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
