• Ways of file copy

  I sometimes found that when using simple right-click and copy-and-paste, some files/directories are not copied completely or not at all, because of various reasons, such as some saved webpage files/directories have some strange characters in their names or their names are too long. For example, in Windows 7, I save this webpage http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/working-around-windows-vistas-shrink-volume-inadequacy-problems/ completely in a very deep directories whose parent directories may have long names, I cannot copy its top ancestry directory, as Windows complains the filename for the saved webpage directory is too long. In Ubuntu, sometimes I can save a file with some special character such as newline under some directory. But when I copy that directory, it will say the file name has some special character and I will have to manually remove the character. Such cases are complained in both Windows and Ubuntu. I was wondering what some better ways to accomplish the copy job in both Windows and Ubuntu. For example, will archiving all to be copied into a single archive help? If yes how to do that?   we have our exchange server 2007 (10.10.2.11) at work with domain "dddddd.com" and ironport and it work just fine! we need to test some thing at work with Exchange 2010 !! so we came up with this idea: we created a locked network and install firewall (10.10.2.88) the locked network has it's own DC and Exchange servers! we used the domain "dddddd.loc" any way it will be deleted! IPs DC 10.0.0.1 EX 10.0.0.11 now the Exchange server up and running in the firewall (10.10.2.88) we opened the ports and forwarded it to the Exchange2010 (10.0.0.11) in our main DC we defined the zone dddddd.loc to the firewall and the MX records as well but when we test we get error now how to make it so that the 2010 will send email directly to the 2007 (we will not use it to more that that)? and the 2007 will send the email to 2010 if the email has the domain dddddd.loc ?

  My development machine is heavy on memory usage. It currently only has 4GB of PC5300. I'm going to buy 8 GB of RAM, but should I take out all my existing memory and install just PC6400 or leave some of the original and stick with 5300? I don't know if I'll ever need more than 8GB, I might, I'm just wondering if the speed difference between 5300 and 6400 is worth trashing the 2 or 3 GB of old RAM I would still have room for after adding the new RAM.

• Windows Broken after Deletion of HP_TOOLS partition

  When I decided to install Ubuntu on my laptop as a dual-boot, I recognized that Windows 7 was using four separate partitions. I (yes, this was stupid) thought the HP_TOOLS partition was probably one I could get rid of, so I deleted it and installed Ubuntu side-by-side Windows using the installation wizard, but now Windows won't progress past the loading screen without the computer automatically restarting. I've had to use Ubuntu exclusively since then. I'm not sure how I can recover it. All of my files seem to still be there--I can mount the other partition and see them, use them, etc--but Windows 7 won't boot. I really have no idea what to do or what to try, or even if I'm at a salvageable point. here's a screenshot of GParted: This makes me suspicious that it wasn't necessarily the removal of my HP_TOOLS partition but the "unknown" status of that 992.50 KiB partition there, sda1. I'm assuming that's the recovery one? How can I get Windows bootable again? I'm sorry, but I'm so unfamiliar with this sort of thing I'm not quite sure where to start.

• Is 10% too much for autogrow on a 4 GB sql server DB?

  I am getting the following error: 2011-03-07 21:59:35.73 spid64 Autogrow of file 'MYDB_DATA' in database 'MYDB' was cancelled by user or timed out after 16078 milliseconds. Use ALTER DATABASE to set a smaller FILEGROWTH value for this file or to explicitly set a new file size. I did some research, and I found that for large databases you should set autogrow to a fixed size (MB), and not to a percentage. I feel like this database is not large and I may not be addressing the correct issue by changing this value. Does anyone have any opinions? Thank you! EDIT: I should have specified SQL Server 2008 RC2 running on Windows Server 2008

  The problem happens on multiple machines in our office. All of them run on Nvidia graphics cards and all use Windows Vista. Sometimes we can get the dormant monitor to wake up by hitting ctrl+alt+delete, waiting 5 seconds, then hitting escape. But, sometimes we're forced to reboot. Anyone else experience this problem and have a fix?

And i retrieved an old version of it in time machine under preferences / widgets. but the setup appears to have changed in my upgrade to mavericks and I can't open the note. I'm trying to open a "post-mavericks" version in my time machine and I can't find where it is. i saw a post that said look under Library/Preferences/Container, i have no such folder or binary document. Please help.

• Algorithm for a lucky game [on hold]

  Assume we have the following Keno(lottery type) game: From 80 numbers(from 1 to 80), 20 are being drawn. The players choose 1 or 2 or 3..... or 12 numbers to play(12 categories). If they choose for example 4 then they win if they predict correctly a certain amount of numbers(2,3 or 4) from the 4 they have played and lose if the predict only 1 or 0 numbers. They win X times their money accordingly to some predefined factor depending on how many numbers they predict from each category. The same with the other categories. And e.g 11 out of 11 gives 250000 times your money and 12 out of 12 gives 1000000 your money. So the company would want to avoid winnings so high. Every draw by the company is being made every 5 minutes and in each draw around 120000 (let's say) different predictions(Keno tickets) are being played. Let's assume 12000 are being played in category 10 and 12000 in category 11 and also 12000 in category 12. I'm wondering if there is an algorithm to allow the company that provides the game in the 5 minutes between the drawings, to find a 20 number set, in order to avoid any "12 out of 12" and "11 out of 11" and "11 out of 12" and "10 out of 11" and "10 out of 10" winning ticket. That means is there any algorithm, where in a time of less than 1 minute approximately(in todays hardware), to be able to find a 20 number set so that none of the 12000 12 and 11 and 10 number sets that the players played(in categories 10,11 and 12) contains any winning of "12 out of 12" and "11 out of 11" and "11 out of 12" and "10 out of 11" and "10 out of 10"? Or even better the generalization of the problem: What is the best algorithm(from a perspective of minimal time), to be able to find a Y number set from numbers 1 to Z(e.g Y=20, Z=80) so that none of the X sets of K-numbers that are being played(in category K) contains more than K-m numbers from the Y-set? (Note that for Y=K and m=1 there is a practical algorithm.)

  Hi, I have a very specific web page that causes webview to crash with the Garnage Collector ON (does not crash when OFF). Easy to reproduce: create a document base application, drop a webview, and have the following line (button perhaps). - (void)connectSearch:(id)sender { [[webView mainFrame] loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://apple.com"]]]; } I guess this scenario is only valid while Apple advertises their new iPad. At the bottom of the page there is two video you can watch. Click on the one on the right. When it is playing, click on the Close button (link) top left - which sends #SwapViewPreviousSelection - and that's it, it crashes. I'm just learning about the garbage collector but I suspect something is collected that should not. Any idea what can prevent the crash, other than turning off the garbage collector? Thank you. • How do I install the newest Flash beta for Minefield on 64-bit Ubuntu?

  Hi, I'm using a fully updated Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit which is pretty much bog standard except I'm using Minefield from the Mozilla daily PPA in addition to Firefox as provided by Ubuntu. I want to try the newest beta of Flash (10.3 as of writing). The installation instructions simply say "drop libflashplayer.so into the plugin folder of your browser". This the 32-bit version. Currently I'm using Flash as provided by the package flashplugin-installer (ver. 10.2.152.27ubuntu0.10.10.1). Going to about:plugins in Minefield/Firefox says the version of Flash I'm running is 10.2 r152 and the file responsible is npwrapper.libflashplayer.so. I have two files with that name on my system. One is /usr/share/ubufox/plugins/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so which is a broken link to /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so. The other is /var/lib/flashplugin-installer/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so (note var instead of usr). I also have a file simply called libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/. So it seems Firefox/Minefield gets its Flash plugin from a file that doesn't exist, and replacing libflashplayer.so with the one in the archive from Adobe has no effect. Since I want to try the 32-bit version I have to use the wrapper. The only way I know how is through the flashplugin-installer package. How would I go about installing the newest 32-bit beta Flash if possible at all? And where is "the plugin folder of my browser"?

• Cannot log in to the desktop on ubuntu 11.10?

  The problem is, I could log in under the terminal, i could ifup eth0, i could do anything I want in the terminal, but if I use ctrl+alt+f7 goto the gnome login screen, after I input the correct password, the system just send me back to same login screen again. I have created a new user, but it didn't work. I have change all the files under ~/ to jichao:jichao(which is my username) with chown -hR jichao:jichao /home/jichao, but it didn't work too. I searched the internet, somebody said I should see the logs under /var/log/gdm, but there is not a /var/log/gdm directory in my box.   I have the same issue on an Aspire. Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit realtek audio sound chip onboard If I plug in a headset, audio does not switch from internal speaker to headset, instead plays out of both at the same time. I have looked at the alsamixer setting, all on. I installed gnome-alsamixer, and I noticed headphone was ticked, if I untick the main audio mutes, and the headphone no longer works. Headset only works with internal speaker. However this one uses the php library tonic (RESTful webservices) and makes us of php cURL module. The issue is I'm not getting an error message which makes it impossible to find the issue.   When I start the Ubuntu software centre, it says I cannot do anything until the package catalog is repaired. However, repairing fails. I ran "sudo apt-get -f install" and found the problem to be: mysql-server-5.5 depends on mysql-server-core-5.5 (= 5.5.24-0ubuntu0.12.04.1); however: Version of mysql-server-core-5.5 on system is 5.5.28-0ubuntu0.12.04.2. So, the question is, how do I install that version and resolve the dependency problem?
