• How do I silence the following RightAWS messages when running tests

  I'm using the RighAWS gem, and mocking at the http level so that the RightAWS code is being executed as part of my tests. When this happens I get the following output ....New RightAws::S3Interface using per_request-connection mode Opening new HTTP connection to s3.amazonaws.com:80 .New RightAws::S3Interface using per_request-connection mode . Even though all the tests pass, when I do have errors its harder to scan them because of this output. is there a nice way to silence it?

• Website with large number of users keeps going down due to memory leaks:Tomcat6 and Java 6

  We host many websites on one of our two virtual servers. We use tomcat 6 and Java 6. It is an MVC model with a hibernate like layer. The problem is, one of our biggest clients with the most number of members, keeps crashing the server every 6-8 hours(precisely in the mornings when most members login) We have been having this issue for 4 days now. Trying to figure out the problem but we suspect memory leaks. Any suggestions?

I have many functions that take 'standard' arguments, which have to be explained in the docstring, but it would be nice to write the relevant parts of the docstring only once, as this would be much easier to maintain and update. • Server Memory with Magento

  I have a cloud server with the following specifications: 2vCPUs 4G RAM 160GB Disk Space Network 400Mb/s System Image: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS I am only running Magento CE 1.7.0.2 on this server. Nothing else. Usually, the server has a loading time of 4-5 seconds. Recently, this has dropped to over 30 seconds and sometimes the server just goes away and I get HTTP error reports to my email stating that HTTP requests took more than 20000ms. • Is SHA-1 secure for password storage?

  Some people throw around remarks like "SHA-1 is broken" a lot, so I'm trying to understand what exactly that means. Let's assume I have a database of SHA-1 password hashes, and an attacker whith a state of the art SHA-1 breaking algorithm and a botnet with 100,000 machines gets access to it. (Having control over 100k home computers would mean they can do about 10^15 operations per second.) How much time would they need to find out the password of any one user? find out the password of a given user? find out the password of all users? find a way to log in as one of the users? find a way to log in as a specific user? How does that change if the passwords are salted? Does the method of salting (prefix, postfix, both, or something more complicated like xor-ing) matter? Here is my current understanding, after some googling. Please correct in the answers if I misunderstood something. If there is no salt, a rainbow attack will immediately find all passwords (except extremely long ones). If there is a sufficiently long random salt, the most effective way to find out the passwords is a brute force or dictionary attack. Neither collision nor preimage attacks are any help in finding out the actual password, so cryptographic attacks against SHA-1 are no help here. It doesn't even matter much what algorithm is used - one could even use MD5 or MD4 and the passwords would be just as safe (there is a slight difference because computing a SHA-1 hash is slower). To evaluate how safe "just as safe" is, let's assume that a single sha1 run takes 1000 operations and passwords contain uppercase, lowercase and digits (that is, 60 characters). That means the attacker can test 1015*60*60*24 / 1000 ~= 1017 potential password a day. For a brute force attack, that would mean testing all passwords up to 9 characters in 3 hours, up to 10 characters in a week, up to 11 characters in a year. (It takes 60 times as much for every additional character.) A dictionary attack is much, much faster (even an attacker with a single computer could pull it off in hours), but only finds weak passwords. To log in as a user, the attacker does not need to find out the exact password; it is enough to find a string that results in the same hash. This is called a first preimage attack. As far as I could find, there are no preimage attacks against SHA-1. (A bruteforce attack would take 2160 operations, which means our theoretical attacker would need 1030 years to pull it off. Limits of theoretical possibility are around 260 operations, at which the attack would take a few years.) There are preimage attacks against reduced versions of SHA-1 with negligible effect (for the reduced SHA-1 which uses 44 steps instead of 80, attack time is down from 2160 operations to 2157). There are collision attacks against SHA-1 which are well within theoretical possibility (the best I found brings the time down from 280 to 252), but those are useless against password hashes, even without salting. In short, storing passwords with SHA-1 seems perfectly safe. Did I miss something?

  a few hours ago, I found a link to Kickass Torrent, which is blocked in my country, Italy and went for it. The link worked just fine but wasn't able to save anything. I renounced and continued normal navigation. I then noticed that everytime I try to access some pages, for instance google.com (but not Google.it) I receive a warning from Chrome that I'm being redirected through piratenpartji.nl Since I found a similar topic here on 'superuser' I tried what was proposed in the solution, namely shutting down adblock and trying again or trying Incognito mode. Nevertheless, no result. I performed a search with both Avira and Spybot SD but except for a couple cookies from other origin nothing came up. What do you suggest I do? • Slow speeds on Samsung SSD PM800 256gb on a Lenovo W500

  I recently bought a W500 with a 256gb samsung ssd drive. Now it seems ridiculously slow at writing. I am copying files at about 30mb/s, but I can read them at about 200mb/s. I tested it with the AS SSD Benchmark v1.4, and got a sequential writing speed of 34.64mb/s and reading speed of 196.95mb/s When I bought it the drive had only been in use for about 240 hours, and according to the CrystalDiskInfo app it had 98% health. Is there a bottleneck here somewhere? Or is the drive just plain bad. I'd really love it if someone could help me find some answers. The main relevant (I hope) w500 specs for this machine are; T9600 @ 2.8ghz 4gb ddr3

• Norton Security Suite Symantec Download Manager Error: "Error writing to disk"

  My broadband provider (Comcast) decided to switch their 'included with service' security suite from McAfee to Norton Security Suite. Their email directed me to a site that downloaded the Symantec Download Manager (NortonDL.exe) and that went fine. I'm running Windows 7 32-bit and running this application pops up the standard User Account Control message and the software is correctly identified as coming from Symantec. I answer 'yes' to allow the software to install and upon launch immediately get an "Error writing to disk" error. I searched the Internet for this error, but mainly I find Comcast users complaining about the same issue with no resolution other than to call Symantec. I found no one suggesting a successful workaround and it appeared that most of the support calls took up to three hours. I'd like to avoid that if possible. Ideas? To be honest, I'm getting close to bagging this installation and just moving to Microsoft Security Essentials.

• kernel: journal commit I/O error

  I am having some problems with a Dell 1950 server. I am installing RHEL 4.6 along with Oracle and some other software on here. I am randomly getting an error message saying "kernel: journal commit I/O error" on my ssh session and on the monitor I have hooked up to the server I see an error scrolling by that says "EXT3-fs error (device sda5) in start_transaction: Journal has aborted." It has happened several times but never at the same point during the install. Actually, this last time the system was up and running and I was just trying to import a database into oracle. This has happened on several hard drives, so I'm pretty sure that is not the problem. This makes me think the raid controller is going bad. What do you guys think? ** UPDATE ** Pretty sure it was a bad hard drive. I threw another drive in the server and it's been running for about 48 hours with out problems.

  Hi, I was asked this question today by a colleague, and couldn't find any clue on the Internet... Can someone tell me if calling Marshall.ReleaseComObject()directly calls the garbage collector ? As I understand it, it only removes COM references, and then the G.C. cleans memory on its next pass, but I can be mistaken... Thanks in advance for your help!

  I like to use wcf (windows communication foundation) with windows authentication. Do I need Active directory for this purpose? How the server knows about the identity of the client? If someone can found out the pass of the client that is using the wcf services, can he create the same user name on different computer and use the password to access the wcf services ?   Hi, I have a function that will get a JSON array with objects. In the function I will be able to loop through the array, access a property and use that property. Like this: Variable that I will pass to the function will look like this: [{"id":28,"Title":"Sweden"}, {"id":56,"Title":"USA"}, {"id":89,"Title":"England"}] function test(myJSON) { // maybe parse my the JSON variable? // and then I want to loop through it and access my IDs and my titles } Any suggestions how I can solve it? • why would outlook not return a notification on trying to recall a message

  i sent an email and then tried to recall the email. After hours post doing this, i didn't recieve any notification (success or failure of this action). when i click on the mail in my sent mail, it simply says: You attempted to recall this message on [xddf] . .. since i didn't receive notification if it was successful or not how do i know whats going on. Why would it take so long? should i assume the attempt to recall failed? Should i click on the email and try recalling again?

• IKE2 VPN Server Certificate expired. How do I issue a new one

  This is a completely new area for me. We are getting "13801: IKE Auth Credentials are unacceptable" messages when connecting to our VPN service on a small Windows 2008R2 domain. Doing a google search has lead me to investigate the Certificate Authority. I've looked in the Certificate Authority | Issued Certificates And the one for the VPN Reconnect is marked as expired since a couple of hours a ago. Can some one tell me what the step I need to take to regen/reissue a simillar cert please? FYI:The client certs are not expiring for a number of years so they are fine.
