• Google Chrome Browser does not display the images from Local network or local host? [migrated]

  While developing and testing a site on local network I have noticed that while IE/FireFox would display the images coming from URL's like "http:\mypc" or "http:\localhost" or ip adress on the netwrok , google chrome on Galaxy, Windows Machine, or google Android will not display the images. After having burned too many hours trying various CSS, image src tag, html document description tricks, I have given up. During my search I found (and lost) the link to chrome forums regarding this issue that seemed to say it is just so by users. Anyone has any more information on weather it is possible to view images on local host/computer name on netwrok or ip adress?

  I submitted my site's URL to my workplace's printed newsletter and when I get the printed version, they added a dot to the end of it. Some people will realize that the period is not a part of the url but others will not. Is there an easy way to redirect from http://example.com/home. to http://example.com/home? I have a IIS 7.0 shared hosting with GoDaddy. This means I have access to the box only through their interface so some options might be limited.

• .htaccess mobile redirect issues

  I'm trying to set up a mobile redirect for a site with 2 subfolders, and I cannot get both to work at the same time. This is the structure of the site www.mysite.com/EN/ www.mysite.com/ES/ This is a bilingual site so each subfolder contains the files corresponding to each language version. Then I was using a 301 redirect, and setting up the index in /EN/ as the main index. Everything was getting redirected to it. I was using DirectoryIndex index.html Redirect /index.html http://www.mysite.com/EN/index.html and several Rewritecond to redirect mysite.com and old urls to the new URL. It worked fine before I decided to add a mobile version - m.mysite.com. I used the solution provided in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3680463/mobile-redirect-using-htaccess, and it redirects my mobile version properly, but now the desktop is both working. Besides, my mobile version must be bilingual as well.

  I am trying to make a slitherlink game, and am not too sure how to approach creating the game, more specifically the grid structure on which the puzzle will be played on. This is what a empty and completed slitherlink grid would look like.   I have an Apache webserver, and in the Apache configuration, I have Alias /backups "/backups" <Directory "/backups"> AllowOverride None Options Indexes Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> I can access files via http://127.0.0.1/backups. The problem is everyone can access that. I have a web interface, e.g. http://localhost/adminm that is protected with htaccess and password. Now I don't want separate .htaccess and .htpasswd for /backups, and I don't want a second password prompt when a user clicks on /backups in the web interface. Is there any way to use same .htaccess and .htpasswd for the backups directory?

Should I create a separate web property? Also, what's the difference between creating a new web property and a new profile?   i have a site that has 3 web applications, lets use this example: example.com/nicy example.com/mash example.com/zoken The main application is nicy, so if the user comes for the first time (or if Google indexes my site) that will be the default choice. This is the code placed inside example.com/index.php <? header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently'); header('Location: http://example.com/nicy'); die(); ?> Is this solution SEO friendly for Google to index the nicy subdirectory as the main entrance page for the domain? (because of the 301 redirect). Thanks!

  This copy machine / scanner / network printer works with Windows but no drivers are available for linux. When Ubuntu supports a printer it works fine but this one is not supported. • A peculiar issue with nm-applet

  There is a somewhat strange error that I've noticed with my gnome sessions. It's not a problem that causes a lot of trouble, but at times it becomes annoying. Anyway, here it is: when I fire up gnome-session-fallback (which is the main one I use), the network applet doesn't run with root permission. Here is what it looks like http://i.imgur.com/8kc7Vrd.jpg . On the other hand, here is what the regular gnome session looks like http://i.imgur.com/wfkkE3E.jpg . From the regular session I can easy edit and add networks, but from fallback session I cannot add/edit anything, or turn off/on the wireless or networking. Any ideas?

  I am looking for a solution for this a problem: I need that every HTTP request (method is irrelevant) in Apache http server would be served only after execution of specific PHP script. This is needed because I need to gather some information about requests, etc. As far as I understand - this could be achieved using mod_rewrite module. So far I have done this (in .htaccess file): RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^(.*)$ script.php [C] script.php is executed, but I need that after this original request would be executed.   The title of my question seems simple but here is an example of what I want to do: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107 What happens on that page is whenever you click on a link to go a section (e.g. "Symptoms") in the article on "Infant Jaundice", it provides a URL parameter like this: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107/DSECTION=symptoms As the DESCTION parameter changes, you get different content on the same page DS00107. The content changes as well as <meta keywords>. Can someone please tell me how this is achieved? I was thinking it was an if/else situation programmed into the page itself to display different properties depending on the URL parameter. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated and my thanks to you for reading my question.

  When Google looks at anchor text on a website, will it pickup the text if it is inside nested elements? So for example: <a href="http://www.google.com/">Visit Google</a> To: <a href="http://www.google.com/"> <div class="circle"> <span>Visit Google</span> </div> </a> The reason I ask is because I want to use css3 elements for certain links on my website, to style them as circles. But the anchor text needs to be picked up for these links, so I want to know wether or not the above is bad practice in this case.

• My cPanel login is being redirected. How can I resolve this?

  I'm trying to get to cPanel to manage my website. When I type www.mydomain.com:2082 into the browser window, the request seems to be redirected. I made a screen-cast so I could slow down the changes in the address bar. First it seems to go to http://www.mydomain.com:2082/login then http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-sys/login.cgi At this point, a screen briefly appears which says 'Login attempt failed' and then the address is redirected to https://this22.thishost.com:2083/, which is no relation to my site at all. This looks to me like there has been an attack on the system and the login.cgi file is compromised. Any suggestions on how to analyze this further? or fix it? Of course my 'free hosting' isn't any help at all.

  Probably like most of you, I am concerned about the privacy of Facebook. Some people suggested that I use the HTTPS address instead. Unfortunately, many links in the HTTPS page itself link back to HTTP. So I am wondering whether it is possible in Ubuntu to redirect any request to: http://www.facebook.com/ to https://www.facebook.com/ This way I feel safer. If you also know the solution for Windows, it might be great to share (probably as a comment to my question rather than answer, as this forum is supposed to be for Ubuntu) so that I can share it with friends.

• Ubuntu 12.04 won't boot at all for the first time

  Using http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/windows-installer So I tried installing Ubuntu for the first time today, and it installed all well, but then it froze at the 'Preparing to run Ubuntu for the first time...' screen. I then proceeded to restart my computer and load Ubuntu from the OS selection screen. My screen completely froze and the picture didn't even come up fully as if my video driver was not installed correctly. Are there any fixes to this problem? Would greatly appreciate it.   I have an large html website on a very old server and I'm attempting to move it to a brand new server running IIS7. I've tried moving the entire site to the WWW directory, but then all my forms return "The HTTP verb POST used to access path is not allowed". Additionally, all the solutions I've found online only work on a page by page basis. Is there a simpler/faster way to migrate a large website containing many forms to IIS7? Here is the specific error message: The HTTP verb POST used to access path '/FormServer/Mig/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/admissions/askseaaggie.htm' is not allowed.

• Error downloading novacom drivers &ndash; WebOS

  I got sick of the Bing Maps on WebOS not being able to find “coffee” when I’m in St. Paul.  Coffe Pk, TX anyone? – no thanks.  So I finally got around to installing PreWare on my Palm Pre 2.  The WebOS Quick Install doesn’t successfully download the novacom drivers.  You can find them here: http://downloads.help.palm.com/opensource/novacom/novacom-win-32.tgz http://downloads.help.palm.com/opensource/novacom/novacom-win-64-tgz Don’t bother trying the Novacom Universal Installer either. Then put phone in developer mode (by Typing webos20090606 and switch on developer mode), attach phone in “Just Charge” mode, run WebOS Quick Install, select the globe icon, and search for PreWare, install.

  I spent the afternoon with the Geolocator object in the WinRT and Widows 8 platform. I have also been working with doing Windows Phone 7 development, and first had to wrap my head around the fact that while similar, it is not the same as the GeoCoordinateWatcher that environment. I found a nice example here http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/Geolocation-2483de66 But the behavior of my app wasn’t the same. Once you ensure that location services is enabled by following these instructions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/hh768219.aspx Location Services was still disabled. From everything I read, it sounded like the first time you try to use the Geolocator object, the user would be prompted to allow to “Access to your location”. After nosing around I found the issue. You need to add the location service as a Capability in the Package.appxmanifest file: After checking the box, I was prompted to allow access to location services as expected the first time I needed to use it.

• Ubuntu One slow download sync speed

  I am having problems syncing my Ubuntu One files with my Ubuntu 12.04 fresh installation. Everything went well during the setup phase. Now, I am trying to sync back in my folders in my U1 account and the transfer speed is extremely slow. I am averaging a 15kb/s transfer speed. I tried uninstalling ubuntuone-client and reinstalling it. It did not fixed the problem. Right now U1 is stuck downloading a 50mb file. It is taking forever. Any ideas? • Restricting A Directory Through .htaccess

  I'm trying to put all of my FTP accounts into a folder on /public_html/ftp and password protect it so search bots can't crawl their private files. I'm also trying to redirect all site traffic from the non-www to www. I keep getting 500 errors when accessing the site, and I need to point it to www.vivalanation.com/ftp to www.vivalanation.com/ftp/, because the /ftp just errors out, you need the trailing slash.
