• Unable to install on a Samsung 305v5a

  Have used Ubuntu for years now. Bought a Samsung 305v5a-so2 laptop yesterday. It runs an AMD A8 quadcore. I have a CD of 10.04 and as I am not clear about whether to install 32 or 64 bit I thought I would run the trial of ubuntu from the cd to see it. After about 30m started getting Authentification Failure messages. Squashfs-error Unable to read fragment cash entry Then a zillion Buffer Logical error messages like 17,000+ Should I go download 11.10, in 32bit or go and try the 64bit. Really don't want to screw the new laptop already but aint gonna wanna work with w7 either. Thanks for any help

• Converting 3 axis vectors to a rotation matrix

  I am trying to get a rotation matrix (in 3dsmax) from 3 vectors that form an axis (all 3 vectors are aligned by 90 degrees each other) Somewhere I read that I could build a rotation matrix just by inserting in every row one vector at a time (source: http://renderdan.blogspot.cz/2006/05/rotation-matrix-from-axis-vectors.html) So, I built a matrix with these example vectors x-axis : [-0.194624,-0.23715,-0.951778] y-axis : [-0.773012,0.634392,0] z-axis : [-0.6038,-0.735735,0.306788] But for some reason, if I try to convert this matrix to eulerangles, I receive this rotation: (eulerAngles 47.7284 6.12831 36.8263) ... which is totally wrong, and doesn't align to my 3 vectors at all. I know that rotation is quite difficult to understand, may someone shed some light? :)

• Flash: Memory usage is low but framerate keeps dropping

  So I'm working on a puzzle game in flash. For all intents and purposes it's like Tetris. I spawn blocks, they move around the screen, then they get destroyed and disappear. I was having some trouble with the memory usage being too high over time so I read up on memory management and I think I have that figured out now. It's definitely climbing slower than it was before, but the framerate is still taking a huge dive after playing for a while. If it's not a memory leak what else could be causing this? • Robots.txt and "Bad" Robots

  I understand robots.txt and its purpose. I have read some people saying that using a Robots.txt gives "bad" robots or robots who do not obey a robots.txt a way to access pages on your site that you do not want accessed. While I am not looking to get into a debate about that I do have a question: If I have a structure like this: /Folder/ /Sub-Folder 1/ /Sub-Folder 2/ (Note: There are no pages within /Folder/ only other folders.) If I Disallow: /Folder/ it will prevent "good" robots from accessing the directory and any contents within the sub-folders. While we know that bad robots will see the /Folder/ will they be able to see and acess the sub-folders and the pages within the subfolders if they are not listed in the robots.txt? (Note: I do not fully understand how robots good or bad crawl a site beyond using a robots.txt and links within the site.)

• Install Ubuntu 13.10 in dual boot with Windows 8.1

  I have a laptop with installed Windows 8.1 x64. I want to intstall Ubuntu 13.10 (x64 of cause) in dual boot with it. I've made bootable USB stick (using unetbootin) with Ubuntu and tried to boot with it. It boots fine, and allows me to choose language and asks whether I want to install Ubuntu or just boot it. But if I select any ot these options, it shows black screen and hangs. I've been waiting about 15 minutes for it, but nothing happened. Light of USB stick indicates that my laptop was not trying to read from it that time. I switched off EFI in BIOS, switched AHCI/SATA modes, burned ISO image to DVD and still same effect. This topic can be called a duplicated, but I have't find what it duplicates. In other topics people asked what will happen if they update Windows 8 to 8.1 having already dual boot and I have installed Windows 8.1 and want to install Ubuntu alongside with it Did I miss something?

  How do others keep track of everything going on in their games? I am working on a new game and I am quickly realizing everything that I need to keep track of. Example: Maybe a layerManager that keeps track of all the layers and what is happening for a particular scene. Maybe a sceneManager for sharing objects among scenes But then getting to game play itself, what if you have 100 objects on the screen each with its own state and happenings, there needs tobe a way to keep track of all of that. Drawing everything out is really helping me. Can anyone share with me how they go about object tracking/management? I am seeing a few different managers and then maybe even a parent object that manages the managers..is my thinking way off? Any design patterns that may be useful for me to read about? Update: doing some reading and maybe a Factory pattern might apply.

• Improving grepping over a huge file performance

  I have FILE_A which has over 300K lines and FILE_B which has over 30M lines. I created a bash script that greps each line in FILE_A over in FILE_B and writes the result of the grep to a new file. This whole process is taking over 5+ hours. I'm looking for suggestions on whether you see any way of improving the performance of my script. I'm using grep -F -m 1 as the grep command. FILE_A looks like this: 123456789 123455321 and FILE_B is like this: 123456789,123456789,730025400149993, 123455321,123455321,730025400126097, So with bash I have a while loop that picks the next line in FILE_A and greps it over in FILE_B. When the pattern is found in FILE_B i write it to result.txt. while read -r line; do grep -F -m1 $line 30MFile done < 300KFile Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

• Mass Metadata Updates with Folders

  With the release of WebCenter Content PS5, a new folder architecture called 'Framework Folders' was introduced.  This is meant to replace the folder architecture of 'Folders_g'.  While the concepts of a folder structure and access to those folders through Desktop Integration Suite remain the same, the underlying architecture of the component has been completely rewritten.  One of the main goals of the new folders is to scale better at large volumes and remove the limitations of 1000 content items or sub-folders within a folder.  Along with the new architecture, it has a new look and a few additional features have been added.  One of those features are Query Folders.  These are folders that are populated simply by a query rather then literally putting items within the folders.  This is something that the Library has provided, but it always took an administrator to define them through the Web Layout Editor.  Now users can quickly define query folders anywhere within the standard folder hierarchy. • A specific user is unable to log in to vsftpd

  I am setting up a new user let his name be ftpguy. He has access to only one directory /var/www/xxx. I have already chowned the directory so that he has write and read privileges. The user is also unable to login via ssh as I have disabled that by changing his shell to /sbin/nologin. Also, in vsftpd config, I have enabled the chroot_local_user. Now whenever I log in from ftp, i get an auth error. Connect socket #1008 to xxxxxxxx, port 21... 220 Welcome to blah FTP service. USER ftpguy 331 Please specify the password. PASS **** 530 Login incorrect. I changed the password to something different several times, using the passwd command, nothing happens, i still the above error. However I am able to log in with my ssh creditals to my ftp server without any problems.(I do not use a key).
