  Hi everyone... i have a webservice that i want to test by typing the url in the address bar in the web browser localhost:1981/myProject/admin/autocomplete.asmx and when i do this it gives this compilation error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Oledb' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Data' (are you missing an assembly reference?) i know this is because we added this in our web.config <add namespace="System.Data.Oledb"/> <add namespace ="System.Data"/> in the namespaces section..... when i call this web service through ajax it works but if i try to test it it gives this error. Is there any way to prevent this?

  GCC documentation (http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Function-Attributes.html) states in 6.29 Declaring Attributes of Functions "naked Use this attribute on the ARM, AVR, IP2K, RX and SPU ports to indicate that the specified function does not need prologue/epilogue sequences generated by the compiler. It is up to the programmer to provide these sequences. The only statements that can be safely included in naked functions are asm statements that do not have operands. All other statements, including declarations of local variables, if statements, and so forth, should be avoided. Naked functions should be used to implement the body of an assembly function, while allowing the compiler to construct the requisite function declaration for the assembler." Can I safely call functions using C syntax from naked functions, or only by using asm?

  I am trying to build a C# project (downloaded code) in Visual Studio Express 2008. I get the error (my translation): The type or namespace name "Allegro" couldn't be found. for the line using Allegro; I know the 2D graphics library Allegro, of course, but I can't find much information on how to use it in C#. It is being used for visualization in the project I am trying to compile. I also get the warning This reference couldn't be resolved. The Universal assembly couldn't be found. I haven't been working with C# before and and I barely know Visual Studio Express. These are newbie mistakes - but I just need a fast solution for this problem. Could someone provide me with a short step-by-step solution?

• How can I build against Microsoft.Web.Administration (IIS 7.x) on a Windows 2003 build machine?

  Hi, I am writing a C# config app for (amongst other things) setting up websites. It's only required to support IIS 7.x (Windows 2008 / 2008 R2), and requiring the compatibility pack is a no-no, so I figured I'd just use the Microsoft.Web.Administration namespace. However, the only place I can find the assembly that contains this namespace (Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll) is from the IIS 7.x installation folder, and our main build machines are Windows 2003 and so cannot install IIS 7.x. One option is to mandate a 2008 build machine but we currently only have one so that's not ideal. We've already ruled out appcmd.exe. The other option is to make a package consisting of the dlls necessary to build against Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. Has anyone tried that? Is there such a package already in existence, hidden somewhere on the MS download site? Thanks in advance.

  I am totally confused by a simple Microsoft error message. When I run XSD.exe against an assembly that contains a custom ConfigurationSection (which in turn utilizes a custom ConfigurationElement and a custom ConfigurationElementCollection, as well as several ConfigurationProperties), I get the following error message: Error: There was an error processing 'Olbert.Entity.Utils.dll'. There was an error reflecting type 'Olbert.Entity.DatabaseConnection'. You must implement a default accessor on System.Configuration.ConfigurationLockCollection because it inherits from ICollection. Yet the class in question has a default accessor: public object this[int idx] { get { return null; } set { } } I realize the above doesn't do anything, but I don't need to access the element's properties by index. I'm just trying to work around the error message. So what's going on?

• Hex Decompilers for PIC

  I've faced to a problem with a PIC Micro controller. I have a micro-controller programmed by me long time ago and I lost the relevant source code and the schematic diagrams. Now I need to invert the value of a port. I can do this using some NOT gates but it is a big hassle to do so. or alternatively I will need to write the whole program back. I don't expect to see the code back in PIC C or MikroC. Having an understandable assembly code would be sufficient. So do anyone has any experience on a good HEX decompiler that I can use for this purpose? Any comments based on your experience? :)

• Can I mark an Email as "High Importance" for Outlook using System.Net.Mail?

  Part of the application I'm working on for my client involves sending emails for events. Sometimes these are highly important. My client, and most of my client's clients, use Outlook, which has the ability to mark a mail message as High Importance. Now, I know it is callous to assume that all end users will be using the same interface, sp I am not. But considering you can send email from Outlook as High Importance even if the target is not necessarily reading through Outlook, that means that there is basically some data stored... somehow... that lets Outlook know if a particular message was assigned as High Importance. That's my interpretation, at least. The application currently uses System.Net.Mail to send out emails, using System.Net.Mail.MailMessages for writing them and System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient to send them. Is it possible to set this "High Importance" setting with System.Net.Mail's abilities? If not, is there any assembly available which can configure this setting?

• Using Thrift to connect to Cassandra from .NET

  Hi, I'm interested in Cassandra and I'd like to test it at home in my Windows XP computer. I've found instructions for install an run Cassandra in Windows, and it's already up and running; I've also found the thrift executable for Windows and generate the C# interfaces, but... when I try to compile that generated code in Visual Studio I got : "The type or namespace name 'Thrift' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)", so I'm missing something else, but I cannot find what... What is it? Is it a dll? I've looked in the thrift code and I cannot find anything related to .net , so what am I missing? Thanks in advance. Regards.

• ASP.NET MVC - separating large app

  I've been puzzled by what I consider a contradiction in terms: ASP.NET MVC claims to be furthering and supporting the "separation of concern" motto, which I find a great idea. However, it seems there's no way of separating out controllers, model or views into their own assembly, or separating areas into assemblies. With the fixed Controller, Model and View folders in your ASP.NET MVC, you're actually creating a huge hodge podge of things. Is that the separation of concerns, really?? Seems like quite the contrary to me. So what I'm wondering: how can I create an ASP.NET MVC solution that will either separate out controllers, the model, and the folders full of views, into separate assemblies? how can I put areas of ASP.NET MVC 2 into separate assemblies? or how else do you manage a large ASP.NET MVC app - which has several dozen or even over a hundred controllers, lots of model and viewmodel classes, and several hundred views?

[SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers.] GoldMine.WindsorControllerFactory..ctor() in WindsorControllerFactory.cs:33 GoldMine.MvcApplication.Application_Start() in Global.asax.cs:70 My questions are Does Castle Windsor run under medium trust? Can I download the DLL's without having to recompile with nant? (as I don't have this set up and don't know nant at all) Or is there another IOC that I can use that I can download and works in Medium Trust? Thanks

• Reasons to learn MSIL

  Hi, Learning MSIL is fun and all that. Understanding what is going on "under the hood" can in many ways improve how you write your code performance-wise. However, the IL that is produced by the compiler is quite verbose and does not tell the whole story since JIT will optimize away a lot of the code. I, personally, have had good use of my very basic IL understanding when I've had to make a small fix in an assembly I do not have the source code for. But, I could as well have used Reflector to generate C# code. I would like to know if you've ever had good use of MSIL understanding and/or why you think it is worth learning it (except for the fun in it, of course). I'd also like to know if you think one should not learn it and why.

  I need some help - here are my requirements. 1: I should be able to modify the UML model without affecting the code, and then later apply the changes. This is because I need to print the changes, get them confirmed, and then develop them. 2: I should be able to reuse parts of the model. For example I would create one project which outputs A.dll assembly, and then another UML project would use the classes in the first to crate B.dll 3: Project stored as text so I can see changes in version control history. 4: Together is too expensive :-)

• Silverlight MergedDictionaries and subclassing of Application

  We have subclassed the Silverlight Application class to add some additional functionality and then use this in multiple projects. The problem is that the Resources defined in App.xaml do not seem to get loaded. Has anyone else seen this and/or have some insight? In this Form, I placed an OK button and I went into the properties of the button and set the DialogResult to OK. • ASP.net error message when using REST starter kit

  Hi all, I've written some code using the REST starter kit and it works fine on my development machine. However, when I upload it to our server the page gives me the following error message... CS1684: Warning as Error: Reference to type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' claims it is defined in 'c:\WINNT\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.ServiceModel.Web\3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.ServiceModel.Web.dll', but it could not be found I've removed code line by line and it appears that the following line of code is triggering the error... HttpContent newOrganizationContent = HttpContentExtensions.CreateXmlSerializable(newOrganizationXml); Really haven't got a clue how to fix it. I assumed it might be because it needs a newer version of the framework to run, but looking in IIS it says it's running version 2.0.50727 which I think is the lates version because it says that even when we're using framework 3.5 Very confused, any ideas? • AesCryptoServiceProvider not part of SymmetricAlgorithm?

  I have a quick little app that steps through the possible symmetric encryption methods. I get them with the following line: private static List<Type> GetAlgorithmTypes { get { return Assembly.GetAssembly(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm)).GetTypes().Where( type => type.IsSubclassOf(typeof(SymmetricAlgorithm))).ToList(); } } As you can see when i run this, AesCryptoServiceProvider is not a member of this group, even though it inherits from AES, which does belong to SymmetricAlgorithm and shows up in my list. This wouldn't be so much of a problem, i can manually add the provider in the group if i have too, but then if i try to retrieve this type by its name: Type t = Type.GetType("System.Security.Cryptography.AesCryptoServiceProvider"); i get a null object for AesCryptoServiceProvider, but not for any of the other items in the group. This is really strange, and i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. It's kinda making me need to use tripleDES because of this (since my machines are all running the FIPS compliance requirement). • I Clean Solution'd my Winform App and now it's broken...

  I have a Winform App that uses a 3rd Party Library of Controls, DevExpress. I also created a bunch of Controls myself, extending those controls. Everything has been working fine when all of a sudden I opened VS today and on the Design Page all my extended controls were missing. I then tried rebuilding to no avail. Then I tried Cleaning and Rebuilding and made it even worse. Now I have tons(520) of erros stating things like -- Error 179 The name 'datBirthDate' does not exist in the current context D:\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\MatrixReloaded\MatrixReloaded\Controls\Member\ucGeneral.cs 339 17 MatrixReloaded also if I try to open a form or user control in Design Mode I first get this -- could not find type, "MyType" please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced and then, if I click Ignore and Continue I get this for all Forms and Contros when I try and look at them in Design Mode -- Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown Help!?!? When I googled I came across mostly references to VS 2003...I am on 2008 sp1.

• How do people handle working with Code Names for their projects?

  Hi All, Recently we started using some code names for several different types of prototype applications all following a theme. This made things a little more fun and was a great idea. The problem is that Im not too sure how people deal with migrating a codebase from "codename" state into version 1.0 state which may have a proper name... not something that a client really shouldnt see :) We are using Visual Studio at the moment, and I can see that you can change the assembly name, but there are references to the namespaces, etc... that would really be a large change to make. Do people both changing things like namespaces before the v1.0 release?

• C# ASP.Net The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found

  Morning all, I know that this sounds like a simple referencing problem from the title this is becoming a nightmare! I have a code class that uses the "iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient.dll". This Dll is referenced in the project and in the code class I have added this dll in the Using section. Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0246: The type or namespace name 'iAnywhere' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: using iAnywhere.Data.AsaClient; I have set the dll to copy local and it makes no difference, the Dll is installed on my PC so is in the GAC, I use this Dll with many other C# projects and have no problems. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be brilliant!

• Log versions of all used DLLs

  I want to log the versions of all DLLs my .NET-application uses. It doesn't matter if the log-output is generated on startup or on first use of each DLL. The first solution which came to my mind was to iterate over all DLL files which reside in the same directory as my assembly. But is this the best option I have? Is there any better way to do this? It's important that the solution should also work on .NET-Compact-Framework.

That time problem was resolved himself (without any actions from my side, with Visual Studio restart). At the moment, I had the same problem on another PC (Vista x64, VS2008, Silverlight 3.0, RIA Services Toolkit): ThomasDomainContext class that inherits DomainContext was not visible from the page's codebehind file. Again, it was resolved after VS restart and after that I got another problem: Error 1 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' does not contain a definition for 'employee' and no extension method 'employee' accepting a first argument of type 'VfmElita.Web.ClientBin.ThomasDomainContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) D:\Project\Budda\VFMElita\VfmElitaSilverlightClient\MainPage.xaml.cs for the following lines of code (error is noticed for the 31st line): 30: var context = new ThomasDomainContext(); 31: grid1.ItemsSource = context.employee; 32: context.Load(context.GetEmployeeQuery()); Any help is welcome.   So I have been working on a java project where the goal is to create a virtual computer. So I am basically done but with one problem. I have created a compiler which translates a txt document with assembly code in it and my compiler has created a new-file with this code written as machine executable ints. But now I need to write a load method that reads these ints and runs the program but I am having difficulty doing this. Any help is much appreciated....also this is not homework if you are thinking this. The project was simply to make a compiler and now I am trying to complete it for my own interest. Thanks. • Cant open Nerd Dinner 1.0 VS 2008 SP1 MVC 2

  I was trying to download some ASP.NET MVC Sample application to learn MVC. I tried Music Store and TownHall but they wont open in my VS2008.So I tried the common Nerddinner 1.0 but it gives error "The project Type is not supported by this installation" . I tried the 3rd Method suggested in the following post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1002907/cant-open-nerddinner-project-in-vs2008 This is about changing the project type GUIDS.Now the project loads but when I run it throws an exception <add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> I presume this is happening because the Nerddinner 1.0 is for MVC 1.0 and I have MVC 2.0 installed. How do I proceed now. I have spent a lot of time trying to get an MVC application working on my PC. I am happy if I can get any properly architected , MVC application of medium to high complexity to work on my PC. thanks

• Code generating SOAP Web Service Proxy objects yourself - C#/.NET 3.5/T4

  Is there a framework or code already available that will give me more control over the code that gets generated based off my web references? I'm working at a new company. And the Web Services Proxies are all self contained in their own assembly. I would really rather generate this whole project. Every time they change something on the Services-side (Java) the WSDL references have to be dropped and re-added. (I can't figure out what those guys are doing on their end that messes with the WSDL bad enough that this needs to be done so much) Their are 10 of these references. I'd rather codegen the whole thing at compile time. Every time. What are my options?
