• GZipped Images - Is It Worth?

  Most image formats are already compressed. But in fact, if I take an image and compress it [gzipping it], and then I compare the compressed one to the uncompressed one, there is a difference in size, even though not such a dramatic difference. The question is: is it worth gzipping images? the content size flushed down to the client's browser will be smaller, but there will be some client overhead when de-gzipping it. Please advise.

  Everything I've been reading and researching up to this point describes how Agile/Scrum works great with teams of about 4 to 6 members, maybe even more. In my current shop, we have about 8 developers or so, but given the nature of the volume of projects and the number of departments we support, we never have more than 1 or 2 folks assigned to a given project. Can I still use Agile/Scrum with a team of 1 or 2 developers? I'm working on making the pitch to my manager to start working with this methodology, but I need to be able to explain how to scale things back for a small developer crew, or convince them to make sure we get more members on a given project.

  I have allowed the update manager to install a 200 Mib of updates, and I think that these update run my graphics driver into a problem. So, I need a way to remove the updates that have been installed since 30th of may 12 for example (or any other date). • Alternating links and slide down content on a list of sub sections

  I have a page for a doctor's practice. In the summary page for the practice there is a list of subsections such as Women's, Men's, Children, Sport, etc. Some of these sub sections are very large, others can be a paragraph or more with a short unordered list. In terms of content volume, the large subsections warrant their own separate page, the smaller one's not so much. I created a little plugin which enables me to use the list of subsections in 2 ways. When clicking on the title of a larger section, you'll be sent through to it's own page. For the smaller sections, a slide down box will open with the information. Is this a good way to handle my information architecture? Should I be giving the smaller sub sections their own page for SEO purposes?

  Using unity 11.04. I have a secondary monitor (actually two, one at home, one at work). The home twin monitor set up works perfect (Viewsonic monitor). At work, I get very buggy behaviour, such as full screen applications 'ghosting' when maximized, and other strange effects.   Not all languages support java-like annotations or C#-like attributes or code metadata in general, however that doesn't mean it is not possible to have in languages that don't have this. An example is PHP with Stubbles and the Doctrine annotation library. My question is, is there anything like this for C?, or are there any reliable ways of doing reflection with extended code metadata in C? Ideally, I'm looking for something that reads javadoc-like comments. Edit: The reason for me *needing* as opposed to just wanting, is that I need to generate C code and code-metadata from a database, as well as being able to edit that metadada and update the database. The volume of the work (~15,000 variables/structures/functions to generate from this database) justifies the solution.

  I exported a virtual machine from my work station, and I am trying to renew the ip-address at home. I put one copy on my laptop and one copy on my PC. I've done this sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and changed the MAC address, but they keep coming back as 192.168.1.165. I need them to be different because I need to run two of these exports at the same time, so I cannot afford to have the same IP. What can I do? Thanks.

  I had been using an external monitor, an old Dell Inc. 19" with Ubuntu 14.04 for a while now, The resolution it displayed at was something like 1366x768 or 1366x1024, I can't remember exactly which one it was. However, one day when I restarted my computer, I can no longer get that resolution on the external display, and can now display a max resolution of 1024x768. Does anyone know why this might happen all of a sudden? I think it was after running a system update.

• Bad sound quality and headphones not working

  Using Ubuntu 10.10, on a HP Pavilion t3019.es, which has a Realtek ALC880 soundcard. It has 6 rear jack outputs, plus digital audio input and output, plus 3 front jacks (mic, headphones and a blue one which i don't know what's for). The sound on my computer is very low, and when i raise the volume up to 50%, it starts sounding distorted, crackling. Also, the headphones don't work when i plug them (it just keeps on playing through the speakers). I tried to comment the "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf" file according to the soundcard and jacks in my computer, but none of the lines added worked (naturally, didn't added them at once). I found out that adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to it made the sound better, but it's not as good as in Windows yet. Any ideas? Other than setting the PCM value, didn't work for me. • Looking for an algorithm to connect dots - shortest route

  I have written a program to solve a special puzzle, but now I'm kind of stuck at the following problem: I have about 3200 points/nodes/dots. Each of these points is connected to a few other points (usually 2-5, theoretical limit is 1-26). I have exactly one starting point and about 30 exit points (probably all of the exit points are connected to each other). Many of these 3200 points are probably not connected to neither start nor end point in any way, like a separate net, but all points are connected to at least one other point. I need to find the shortest number of hops to go from entry to exit. There is no distance between the points (unlike the road or train routing problem), just the number of hops counts. I need to find all solutions with the shortest number of hops, and not just one solution, but all. And potentially also solutions with one more hop etc. I expect to have a solution with about 30-50 hops to go from start to exit. I already tried: 1) randomly trying possibilities and just starting over when the count was bigger than a previous solution. I got first solution with 3500 hops, then it got down to about 97 after some minutes, but looking at the solutions I saw problems like unnecessary loops and stuff, so I tried to optimize a bit (like not going back where it came from etc.). More optimizations are possible, but this random thing doesn't find all best solutions or takes too long. 2) Recursively run through all ways from start (chess-problem-like) and breaking the try when it reached a previous point. This was looping at about a length of 120 nodes, so it tries chains that are (probably) by far too long. If we calculate 4 possibilities and 120 nodes, we're reaching 1.7E72 possibilities, which is not possible to calculate through. This is called Depth-first search (DFS) as I found out in the meantime. Maybe I should try Breadth-first search by adding some queue? The connections between the points are actually moves you can make in the game and the points are how the game looks like after you made the move. What would be the algorithm to use for this problem? I'm using C#.NET, but the language shouldn't matter.
